Though the apocalypse has begun, the reckoning is still to come.

When Pete Guinn went to Australia to find his missing sister, he left behind the woman he loved. In the city he once called home, panic and chaos arrive long before the living dead. As South Bend burns to the ground, Olivia flees, seeking safety in the remote woods of Michigan. But the backwoods are no safer than the outback, and nowhere is remote enough to escape the horrors of the living dead.

With global communications systems fractured, Pete Guinn and his sister, Corrie, are a small part of a large effort to re-establish contact between the forces still fighting the undead. As they journey east across Canada, they instead find the frontline. An army is being formed out of Canadians and refugees from the United States, out of retirees, reservists, and conscripts. Night and day, a war is waged against an enemy that doesn’t tire or retreat, ask for quarter or offer it. But victory is in sight. The undead can be defeated. As long as the supply lines are maintained. As long as the ultimate sacrifice is selflessly made again and again. As long as the worst of the apocalypse is behind them. But though the apocalypse has begun, the reckoning is still to come.

Set in Canada and the U.S. Midwest, continuing the story of the survivors in the Pacific, which began in Outback Outbreak, No More News is a story of love and war as the apocalypse tears our world apart.

I've finally lost my patience with this whole series, which is a real shame as I had previously really enjoyed the adventures of Bill and co. This spinoff series brings in new characters which is welcome and they are likeable, but again this book is suffering from the same issues that has been affecting the main series for quite a while.

The dialogue is often nonsensical, repetitive and lacking any substance. The characters are likable but unrealistic. There are pockets of enjoyable storyline, which keep a good flow to the book, but this is severely hindered by the poor attempt to create overly clever, witty dialogue. Sometimes it feels like I'm reading badly written, young adult fiction. "Oh let's be journalists, I've always wanted to be a journalist..."

People are being slaughtered by the 100's of millions, torn to shreds, eaten, raped, murdered, maimed, you name it and these guys are swanning around playing at being journalists, badly. They seem devoid of any depth regarding this new horror they find themselves in, proven by the total lack of substantial dialogue between the characters.

To sum this book up...

- Man and Sister travel 10,000 miles on the extremely slim chance of finding Girl; the love of his life.
- Man finds Girl, fairly easily.
- Man doesn't kiss, hug, make love too, profess undying love too, have any type of meaningful conversation with Girl regarding his love - eventually they hold hands.
- Sister turns into a combat warrior able to drive anything, shoot anything in a matter of days.
- Girl tells anyone who'll listen that she is Man's 'girlfriend'.
- Man, Sister and Girl spend most of the book travelling around in circles, talking nonsense to each other and random characters. These characters just seem to be doing stuff and not contributing to a strong, well defined storyline.
- Man, Sister and Girl reach the end of book. They fight and easily kill a bunch of highly trained mercenaries, who've previously killed 4 special forces soldiers, without having any combat training. They rescue an arrogant billionaire, who seems impossible to kill and knows everything; except the existence of a global conspiracy to wipe out most of humanity, fake evacuation plans, fake antivirus.
- Man, Billionaire, Sister and Girl exchange random platitudes. The End.

I loved the Surviving The Evacuation series when Bill first started out. The dialogue flowed - made sense. The characters had proper conversations. The characterisation was rich and believable and relatable. Every i seemed dotted and t crossed. Now not so much...

Still a page-turner; not as bloated as the American sub-series, not as eviscerating as the main, central narrative; charming and ominous by turns. Lisa Kempton’s a fucking cartoon character though. Why Tayell occasionally mistakes an inability or unwillingness to use contractions for a personality I will never know, especially given the ensemble nature of his ‘verse.

Some of this book was awesome. Some of it was a bit slow. I'm excited to see where the story goes.

This was my 21st book in the series (if you count the spin-offs).

I don't understand how this book can be so poorly written. Tayell is not a new author, but he doesn't seem to have any understanding of basic grammar. This book is very hard to read due to constant run-on sentences, nonsensical phrases, and punctuation that ranges from oddly placed to nonexistent. Some sentences simply don't make sense no matter how I rephrase them in my head. I'll admit I only made it about half-way through before I stopped reading. I'm not wasting my time reading something that the author obviously wrote as quickly as he possibly could. I don't think this book went through a single proofread. Unfortunately, Tayell isn't a strong writer under the best of circumstances. I could tolerate his earlier books, but none of them were very impressive. They're all full of weak dialogue and rather dull characters. This particular book has the same issues, but they're even worse than I expected.

I really liked the rest of this series but there were too many errors in this one to enjoy it. I feel like this author must have spent no time researching the climate of the locations his story was set in. At the time of year this story took place and in the location it did (mostly thunder bay, wawa, and in between), there would have been 6 feet of snow on the ground still. Every time he referenced mud or rain, I cringed. The part where they are floating on the lake fishing is totally impossible. There are still ice huts on those lakes at that time of year. The ice is 2 feet thick still. Nobody would have been splashing in the water because there wouldn't have been water. Some of the worst winter storms of the seasons come around then. There would have been too much snow for that off roading they did to be even possible. It would have taken a two minute search on the author's part to find this information and adjust.

This instalment of the ‘Surviving the Apocalypse’ series is the second volume set in the States and Canada and compliments events taking place in Europe in the original books.

Continuing the story of survivors from the Pacific area, this novel finds the protagonists caught up in the war against the undead and the fight to establish a safe place for the remnants of society.

However, as worldwide catastrophic events unfold, the fight becomes more desperate and with power struggles and an evil cartel network, the backwoods are no safer than anywhere else. And who can really be trusted?

This was a far better written book than some of the earlier works; there was a notable decrease in the use of ‘said’ in the dialogue for instance. There was also a love story. And a dog called Rufus.
Just when I decide to maybe have a break from this series, I am left wanting to read the next instalment. Which is OK, I suppose.

The second part of the story with Links to Australia, and providing an insight into the breakdown of society, and the merging nuclear exchanges filling in some of the gaps from the series. A bit light compared to the violence of others in the series, and a sense of everything being ok, with two of the main characters being immune, which didn’t sit as well as the stories of other books here.

A good, easy read, with clearly more to come from this arc in the series.

On Kobo (1230003866962) EPub 2 DRM Free: 389 pages

Having landed in Canada Pete and Corries decide to carry out the scouting mission for Australia while also searching for Olivia, Pete's former colleague who he now realises he has feelings for... Olivia has some iteresting experiences as the outbreak begins and spreads to South Bend...

This somewhat unlikely premise takes place against the background of the breakdown of 'normal' life in North America but with a formidable military figure taking control of a fightback against the zombie spread and the chaos caused by refugees here seems to be some hope of success... until March 10.

A look back at the start of the outbreak from a slightly different perspective from the three we have previously read. The entire series cotinues to be fascinating.

Another banger

I was very excited for another installment. Its amazing how large the post apocalyptic world has become. Frank does an excellent job connecting everyone and love how people can pop up when not expected. The new character are great and even not a fan of romance, I do love the couple in this book and their story.

This was a really enjoyable zombie, end of the world story! I do recommend that it is read in order for maximum pleasure. Good ideas, a good strong female lead along side the male character, some nastiness & action, good pace & ideas, a really good read! I will read the next in this series as I found it a great distraction!

I just cannot get enough of these books! I love the characters and it's great to have a story that fills in some information from the original storyline too.

I have just started to read the series from the start for the third time!
Please don't stop writing any time soon.

Another fine chapter in this epic story

Another piece of this fabulous plot falling into place, with more details of events happening in tandem with the timeline of British characters.
These books are well thought out and allow more of characters’ stories to unfold.

I'm enjoying the adventure of this series. I think you'd need to read the 1st book in the Surviving the Evacuation series before this. I found the zombie descriptions a bit gorier than in his earlier books. Overall it meets my criteria as a good post-apocalypse book.
