Love at the Shore by Teri Wilson
A Hallmark movie made into a book. Contemporary romance.
Jenna and her children rent a cottage on the beach for the summer. Jenna plans to work on a novel that’s due by the end of the summer. Unfortunately the other half of the rented unit has a loud music playing tenant with a dog that’s running everywhere. How’s she supposed to get any work done with all that noise and distraction?
Sweet and charming. Exactly as expected from a Hallmark book. Jenna was distracted by the good looking neighbor but still had to find time to write. Lucas learned to appreciate her children and Jenna’s volleyball skills made him realize he wanted to know more about any other skills she may have.
The usual formula with a disappointment or misunderstanding near the end and then the ultimate being in love close.
Delightful.

Love At The Shore by Teri Wilson is a contemporary standalone romance that is actually based on the Hallmark movie by the same name. A great summery beach read this one features a single mom stumbling on love in an unexpected way.
Jenna is a single mom who has always tried to take her kids to the beach for the summer but with the deadline looming on her manuscript she didn’t get her reservation in on time. Booking another cottage for the summer last minute Jenna vows to keep the summer special even if she does need to finish writing her book while at the beach.
When Jenna and the kids arrive at the new cottage they meet their new carefree neighbor, Lucas. Lucas’s laid back attitude is the complete opposite of Jenna’s more uptight one which has the two at odds when it comes to the parties, loud music and his wandering dog.
Love At The Shore was a rather fun story of the old opposites attract trope that also has the underlying don’t judge a book by their cover message to the story. The characters were even more likable than I imagined but of course I’m a sucker for getting the kids involved in relationships. Some aspects may seem a bit predictable to this type of story but that easily overlooked making for a great beach read.

This is a well-written, entertaining, contemporary, summer beach vacation, romance novel. It has a likable female protagonist, an engaging male protagonist, cute kids, chocolate, an adorable dog, and a happily ever after ending. I listened to the audio version of this novel, and the narrator, Ms. Courtney Patterson, has a lovely voice, and does an excellent job depicting the characters and their personalities.

This is my first read by this author and a super sweet, and clean romance. I absolutely loved the bond the heroine had with her kids and her love for them. It was fun seeing the hero resist but somehow find himself drawn to a life he had never known. The heroine is an author on a deadline and single mother-of-two. She takes a disliking to the hero, judging him as beach bum not realising he is a business-man. He thinks she needs to loosen up. They encircle each other for a long time but kids and a adorable pup bring them closer. I loved how her kids interrogated him.

Love at the Shore is the perfect beach read. It’s a sweet story with endearing characters, a scene-stealing dog, and a romance that will make you smile.
Jenna is a single mom and an author with a hit debut under her belt. She’s taking her kids to the shore for the summer, hoping that while they’re at camp she can get over her writer’s block and finish the sequel she needs to submit in five weeks. It’s easy to like Jenna. She’s a loving parent, a good friend, and though she may come across as tightly-wound, the stress she’s under makes it understandable and her organizational bent made me smile. Her well-ordered world is knocked off its axis when she meets her neighbor, Lucas, and his energetic dog. Lucas may seem like a total beach bum at first glance, but I loved peeling the layers back to his character. Lucas is charming and easy-going, sure, but he has a good heart and the way he bonds with Jenna’s adorable kids is sure to make you melt.
Strikes spark between Lucas and Jenna at first meeting, but it was fun watching them initially try to deny the attraction. What follows is a slow-burn romance that is a joy to watch unfold. Teri Wilson’s writing always keeps me engaged and this story is no exception. The setting and the characters come to life on the page and I finished this book a well-satisfied reader. Love at the Shore is based on the Hallmark movie of the same name. Though I haven’t yet seen the movie, I hope it has the same energy and heart Ms. Wilson’s book does.

Love At The Shore was such a nice read set in a Summer paradise as Tybee Island.
Jenna is a author on a deadline for her second book, but she is also a mother of two and the Summer season is up onn them, so she books a five weeks stay on Tybee Island where the kids can enjoy their time at the Summer camp and she can finish her story. She has planned everything, everything is under control until she arrives at her beach villa and she finds out that Lucas, her neighbour, is a messy surfer who unlike her has nothing to do all day. Will they find a common ground to live in peace or will their differences are too big to live next to each other?
I've really enjoyed Jenna and Lucas journey, it was a pleasure to read how they grew fond of each other chapter after chapter.
I liked Lucas character the most, his messy way is endearing but don't make the same mistake as Jenna because he is much more than a lazy surfer.
I didn't have seen the movie yet but Teri Wilson's writing is so evocative that I've all the scenes playing in my mind throughout the book.

This book is perfect! If you love the beach, grab this book. You feel like you are there, you can see the scenery, hear the gulls and the crashing waves. As always, if it's a Hallmark book it's a winner with a wonderful recipe at the end. Thank you Hallmark Publishing via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

This was a very good book. I had just finished a lousy book and I didn't have very high hopes for a Hallmark book. I was very wrong; I thoroughly enjoyed this ARC from NetGalley.
I really liked the writing style. The dialogue was realistic and natural. The descriptions were concise and vivid. I could picture all of the scenes especially those involving the beach, the house, and the dog. The characters were likable. The plot moved along without gaping holes or random obstacles to just give the characters reasons to be together. Even the pacing of the romance works. Five weeks over the summer seems much more "realistic" than the typical two weeks at Christmas timeline.
I highly recommend it especially if you are heading to the beach (or just wish you were like I am). It's fun and light and happy.
There is one glaring mistake that I hope is caught before publishing:

As usual there is no disappointment here! I love stories like this one. Heartwarming, wholesome and sweet. With two kids and a dog thrown into the story there are even more tugs on the heart strings. This was a sweet romance that will make you smile and warm your heart when you read the interaction between not only Lucas and Jenna, but Lucas, Nick, Ally and Tank (before mentioned kids and dog). This is a great summer read! I also want to point out that as mentioned above the book is wholesome, which means if you prefer not to read racy stories this is for you. Its something you could recommend with ease to anyone and many different ages. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review. My opinion is my own.

Oh my heart! LOVE AT THE SHORE by Teri Wilson was the perfect Memorial Day weekend read, with the start of summer being around the corner. I loved this sweet romance about a divorced writer mom who brings her kids to a beach house rental, only to fall for the messy, playful surfer next door. In fact, I loved it so much that I watched the movie as soon as I finished the book, so thank you Hallmark for entertaining me this long weekend!
Jenna Turner was a character close to my heart, as I struggle with writing myself too and totally understood where she was coming from. My dream would be to go to a beach house for five weeks, like she did with her kids, and work on my novels! Jenna’s ready to work, organized, and lives by the plan. The kids are enrolled in summer camp, and she thinks she has everything set and under control. Jenna’s ambition is admirable, but she’s distracted by the cutie next door neighbor (and his dog) in the duplex they are sharing.
Lucas already lived the corporate life of plans and schedules, and worked hard to attain his dream of a shore life as a surfer and local business person at the beach. Now, he’s learned to relax a bit and live the unattached life. Until his beautiful neighbor and her awesome kids move in for the summer and he finds himself pulled into their world.
There are so many things to love about LOVE AT THE SHORE. Tank, the dog, is a superstar. My heart swelled at how the kids chipped away at Lucas’s anti-attachment attitude, and how Lucas taught Jenna to relax a little and not try to control everything. I especially loved how Jenna’s new summer vibe helped her finish her book, and how Ms. Wilson showed Lucas realizing that his life, while amazing, could be so much more if he let love in.
LOVE AT THE SHORE is a sweet, summer read with mature characters, and a lovely setting. It’s the perfect book to take to the beach.

Love at the Shore by Teri Wilson, based on the Hallmark movie of the same name, was the perfect summer read. Set on Tybee Island, Georgia, the novel follows YA author Jenna Turner -- who is staying at a beach house for the summer with her children, Nick and Ally -- and the surfer next door Lucas McKinnon. Jenna is expecting quiet summer days where she can finish her second novel while her kids are at camp, but she quickly realizes that Lucas, with his loud music, his rambunctious dog Tank, and, of course, his good looks, is going to be a major distraction.
Of course, Jenna and Lucas are complete opposites, which causes plenty of tension, and of course, they can't stand each other. Of course, Nick and Ally want to get to know Lucas and play with his dog, and of course, Lucas doesn't really know how to handle children and Jenna doesn't want them getting too attached or picking up his "lazy surfer" ways. Just like the movie, the novel is predictable, but that's to be expected, and it doesn't really matter with these kinds of stories. I was a bit apprehensive about reading the novelization of Love at the Shore, mainly because I'd already seen the movie several times, but having loved Wilson's Unleashing Mr. Darcy (which was way better than the Hallmark movie version of the novel), I had to give it a try -- and I wasn't disappointed.
Wilson gives a depth to the characters that isn't in the movie. Sure, you see the characters evolve over the course of the two hours, but Jenna still grated on my nerves at times. In Wilson's novel, Jenna is still the same Jenna as in the movie, but you get to see into her mind and her heart and feel for her in a way that you might not while watching the movie. Moreover, the decision Lucas makes in the movie that hurts Jenna and her kids is still disappointing but more understandable when fleshed out by Wilson. Ultimately, despite having seen the movie multiple times, it felt like I was experiencing the story for the first time, and the epilogue set after the movie ends is a nice treat.
This is the second book I've read from Hallmark Publishing that is based on a Hallmark movie, and now I just have to give their original novels a try.

Okay I wanted to LOVE this one. It’s not a bad book but I felt the heroine Jenna was just a bit too much. She’s a YA author on deadline. She has 5 weeks before her first draft is due. Single Mom. It’s summer break so her and her kids go to Tybee Island, Rent a condo and she plans to just use this as a work vaca. Finds herself distracted by her neighbor Lucas.
These two clash a lot in the beginning so it’s kind of hate to love. Kind of close proximity because he literally lives on the other side of the wall. He’s constantly telling Jenna she needs to relax. Like WHY ARE YOU AT THE BEACH expecting everyone else to quiet down and calm down..YOU HAD the bright idea to come here and WORK..??! That aside, it was an okay romance. Not bad but nothing that blew me away.

I love Hallmark books, they always made me feel good. This one was no exception and I enjoyed it.
It's heartwarming, well written and entertaining.

When Jenna Turner, a writer and super-organized divorced mother of two retreats to the seaside with her family for the Summer, she rides on high hopes that the peaceful, simple life at the shore will help her meet her fast approaching deadline for her next book while the kids have tons of fun. However, rental neighbor, Lucas McKinnon, easy-going surfer, dog owner and dedicated bachelor, seems to put her best laid plans in jeopardy.
Jenna and Lucas’ meeting starts off on the wrong footing; he decides that she is uptight, too organized and controlling while she decides that he is a slacker who hangs out with his dog and apparently in need of some ground rules regarding sharing the duplex rental for the summer. They find each other annoying and proceeds to set up physical and internal barriers, ignoring warning signs to the contrary. As the kids forged a friendship with the ‘no kids’ Lucas and became attached to, Tank, his canine roommate, it becomes increasingly impossible for Jenna and Lucas to avoid each other. Jenna cannot deny the positive influence that Lucas is having on her and her children, and Lucas cannot deny the effect that feeling like a part of a family, has on him. As their erected barriers prove to be increasingly ineffectual, will Jenna and Lucas submit to each or will an unexpected turn of event towards summer’s end, push them to part ways without admitting how they feel? As the wind and the waves change at the shore, so do the lives of the characters in this novel.
While a typical romance plot, Love at the Shore, takes you on that journey in its unique way through Wilson’s artful use of engaging, easy-going prose skillfully balanced with her portrayal of scenery and relatable characters. I particularly like Wilson’s use of scenery in parallel to a character’s mood or behavior. This adds dynamism to the characters and enhances the fluidity of her prose. She successfully paints lovable, unforgettable, authentic characters and the way in which she captures the nuances of single-parenting and navigating life within that context, is a plus for me. The all-around positive changes experienced by its characters, even Tank, bring the book to a satisfying end. I only wished that there were more interactions between Jenna’s family and Maureen‘s (her neighbor from the city) family who were also staying at the shore for Summer. However, the overall work has not lost any merit on this issue.
I enthusiastically recommend this book as a great summer read and beyond. It has an appeal to romance lovers, single mothers, dedicated bachelors and those who nurture internal struggles to overcome fears, to trust again, to love again, to take a risk and be hopeful that change can be a good thing. Love at the Shore is entertaining but there are also salient lessons to be learned.

Love at the Shore is entertaining but there are also salient lessons to be learned.

Love At The Shore is not the typical book that I normally go for, sure it is romance, but I usually go for YA romance, however in saying this book was amazing and I could not put it down.
Jenna, a single mom and a very successful YA author take her annual summer's getaway with her two children. She ends up in a beach rental house next to a loud neighbour who throws way too many parties and makes a huge racket. Lucas, your typical surfer dude that lives right next to the beach with his dog and throws the town's best bonfire parties.
Lucas develops a close relationship with Jenna's kids and volunteers to help her son become a better coach and soon Jenna realises there is more to Lucas behind the party and the surf, on the inside, he is a soft gentleman that uses time and patience to make sure her son gets into the swimming team.
The descriptions and the way the setting was placed out were vivid and concise and I could close my eyes and imagine being in the beach hut next to the sea feeling the breeze. The plot moved along and left no gaps and all the characters had reasons to be together and spend more time with each other.
I highly recommend this book if you want something light to read while on holiday! Not a complicated storyline so it won't give you a headache, it's simple, light and happy.

This is the perfect book to start off the summer! Jenna is a divorced mother of two--daughter Ally and son Nick--who is getting ready to start her summer vacation in Tybee Island. She's hoping for some relaxing and peaceful days at the shore so that she can finish writing her second book. However, a curve ball is thrown at Jenna's plans when she meets her beach neighbor Lucas McKinnon.
One of the reasons that I really enjoyed this book is because I found Jenna's character extremely relatable. She is a dedicated rule follower and planner, and I am the same way. I remember as a kid I would list all of the books I was bringing with me on vacation (I still do that as an adult now). The friendship that Jenna and her kids develop with Lucas helps her crawl out of her "safe little shell" and take a chance on life and love rather than planning everything and second guessing her decisions. She reailzes that doing her best is enough, even if that means she fails sometimes.
I also enjoyed this book because Teri Wilson does a great job at slowly building Jenna and Lucas's relationship and showcasing how they grow together mentally and emotionally. You feel the butterflies and doubts that Jenna and Lucas share as they realize they found their hearts in each other.

I absolutely loved Teri Wilson’s The Story of Us and was thrilled to find another book of hers. So I was a bit disappointed when I didn’t care for this story right off the bat. The main male character really bothered me. I found him to be obnoxious, condescending and careless. I didn’t truly care all that much for the main female character either, truth be told, unless she was relating to her children. She was a bit over the top in her restrictions. The kids were the winners in my book with great personality, charisma and strength. And of course, I knew how the story would turn out in the end, so the predictability, along with the lack of enticement about the characters almost caused me to put the book down.
However, I decided to give it one more try because the cover was so cute and I’d had success with the author before. I’m so glad I did because it ended up being a quick and enjoyable story. The characters developed nicely as the story progressed, and the messages and themes were sweet and insightful. The story wrapped up well and ended up being a hope-filled, heart-warming story.

I have to say first off how much I loved this book.Jenna , a mom and second book writer is experiencing trouble completing her book and decides to concentrate on her writing during their summer vacation.Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your outlook, it appears she has the neighbor from hell and they are off to a rocky start. Jenna gets creative in her efforts to block out any and all distractions, but with kids and a dog in the mix,it gets very interesting and hilarious.The neighbor, Lucas with his calm demeanor and laid-back approach to life was very likable even when he thought he was being retaliative and calculating, and I fell in love with him all the way when he took her son Nick under his wings.The evolving relationship between Jenna's daughter Ally and Lucas' dog Tank was heartwarming to read.Truly a light , amusing beach read,two thumbs up for Teri Wilson.

Love at the Shore by Teri Wilson is a sweet Hallmark love story, that I really enjoyed. Jenna is a single mom of two children who writes young adult books, and her dead line is five weeks away. The problem is that she has writers block. Jenna and her children pack up and head to the shore, where they are renting half of a house. When they arrive Lucas lives in the other unit with his dog, who barks. Lucas also likes to stay up late and host loud volleyball games on the beach. Can these two opposite people find a way to get along? I really enjoyed this sweet love story, and dreamed about being on that beach too. This book has a well thought out plot and characters. I will be reading more books by this author. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre, perfect summer beach read.

This is such a sweet story, where a single hot surfer and his dog meet a single mum and her two adorable kids!
Jenna and her kids go to the beach every year, but this year she left it late in booking the usual house they rent, but she found a shared duplex, which looked perfect!
Lucas is a carefree surfer, he has a dog and no intention is ever getting married or having kids due to the fact his childhood wasn’t great! The only problem is, he can’t stop thinking about Jenna and her kids! Of course, they have a few run ins, and Jenna has barriers up to protect her heart and the heart of her kids!
There are obviously feelings growing between the two adults, and Lucas is softening towards the children and their constant questions! Just when things start to look up, Lucas does something that Jenna may not ever forgive, he lets her son down!
Can Lucas make it up to them all, can they both move past the hurt they have both suffered in the past and find a way to move forward together, or will it be a case of Jenna just heading home with the kids and lots of happy memories!

Love at the Shore is a refreshing escape. It is a sweet, clean romance with some fun twists and surprises. The characters are good people, and I fell in love with them and the charming town of Tybee Island. It was a quick read, and Wilson writes in a clear style that paints a picture but keeps up a quick pace.
If you're looking for a feel-good read, I highly recommend it. If you are a fan of dogs or a mother, I think you'll especially enjoy it. Thank you to Hallmark and NetGalley for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The author has a great writing style that provides an entertaining read with the right mixture of comedy, romance and drama. This book was made into a Hallmark movie but I am not sure which came first - the movie or the book. Whichever one it was, this story will provide an enjoyable experience.

Love at the Shore was the perfect book to read over Memorial Day weekend to kick off the start of summer! It makes the perfect vacation read. The characters are funny and sweet and I found myself falling in love with them. After reading this book, I really want to visit Tybee Island. I could close my eyes and picture myself there while reading this story. I highly recommend adding Love at the Shore to your summer reading list!

This is the first book that I have read by Teri Wilson and I really enjoyed it.
Jenna has been divorced for a while and while she was married she never thought that her marriage would end that way. Now she has become a sort of control addict. She figures if she keeps everything where she can control it, wrapped up tightly, then she won't be hurt again.

I haven’t seen the Hallmark movie adaptation yet but I know I’d love it! Such a sweet and easy read. Likable characters and a clean romance made for a very enjoyable story. I’ve been to Tybee Island many times for vacation so it was fun to read a book that was set there. I definitely recommend this book and I look forward to reading more by Teri Wilson!
