Hate made me famous. Fame took my sister.
As of midnight on my twenty-first birthday, I became the wealthiest man in America, and my sister went missing. Given her history, my parents insist on saving face in the cruel world of the filthy rich. They’re betting she’s on a bender, off somewhere with her latest boytoy, and burning through money like a pack of cigarettes.
But she’s not. Nola would never miss my birthday, at least not willingly. Something’s not right, and I don't give a lick about family rules or distracting myself with the fine print on the morality clause. If Dad is more concerned with my celebrity status than forcing the police to look for her, then I’ll do it myself. Screw locking down a future with some random chick. It won't find my sister or give me the answers I want.
Though, I rather those answers not come from Norah, the pain-in-the-ass wannabe blogger who is living in my home and insisting in cleaning up my act. Someone forgot to tell her she's a maid, not a publicist. But when one of her few subscribers writes to her about my sister, the clues lead us on a hunt for a killer.
What we find, leaves us shook.

Sonya Jesus's twisted new adult retelling of Cinderella brings to life a fairytale killer obsessed with a True Crime Blogger and her Internet famous crush in this celebrity thriller romance.

USA Today & International Bestselling Author of Romantic Suspense, Thrillers, & Dark Romance books.

Don't be fooled by the positive, unicorn-loving, bubbly nerd. Sonya writes about dark hearts, soul-crushing moments, and the in-between of moral code. In books, she spares no one from the emotional rollercoaster and the gut-wrenching turns, but in real life, she's all about the bounce—about embracing the change, using the hard parts of life to spring back up, and not giving up when things get tough.

Sonya's a sucker for romance, practically inhales books in her free time like they're oxygen, and nurtures an addiction to criminal psychology. Yes, she watches True Crime as a hobby. Forever a student at heart, Sonya enjoys adding degrees, accolades, and certificates to her roster, and is affectionately referred to as Dr. Paige Turner by her peers.

Her family insists she's smart, but they must not see her lose her phone at least twice a week, try to open the front door with the car fob, or toot brain farts on the daily. Luckily, they also think she's funny. But that's just one of the reasons why she loves her big Portuguese family, rose-colored glasses and all.

Growing up in Ledger's household though wealthy, it was a nightmare especially after his sister Lizzie died and it was just him and Nola. Now celebrating his 21st birthday and he is the richest adult around but of course it comes with stipulations as being an internet star, it has gotten him into trouble with things like sex tapes. Lately, though he has been going through a bit of a stir-crazy depressive stage and Norah has been asked by her mum to help out and be Ledger's maid. Norah hates everything about Ledger, especially since his family kicked them out of the mansion when she was 11-12 years old. They are her enemy. Though something has piqued her attention as Nola has gone missing and since Norah runs a true crime podcast/blog, this is the story she needs to boost up her subscribers, the downside though is that she had to sign an NDA relating everything to Ledger's family which includes Nola. However, can she talk Ledger into letting her help search for Nola when one of her subscribers and Nola start sending clues for Norah and Ledger to hunt her down as one of her favourite things to do growing up was playing games especially hide and seek. However, this isn't just a normal game of hide and seek as it will include some life-changing secrets, murder and crime and may just shake Ledger's world. What I loved about this book was besides the Cinderella storyline, was that we caught a glimpse of past characters from one of the CamU stories that featured in the Modern Fairytale Princess Collection - Kai and Thorn's story. Shook by Sonya Jesus is based loosely on the tale of Cinderella.

Shook (Internet Famous Collection #1) is a must read page turner that will leave you shooked. Sonya Jesus's twisted new adult retelling of Cinderella is the best retelling i've ever read. This author intricately weaved unexpected twists in this celebrity thriller romance. A labyrinthine with morsel pieces of the puzzle dredge throughout the romance keeping you guessing to the very end. The writing style is captivating and the characters are compelling. I absolutely loved Ledger and Norah and the playful banter between them. Brimming with angst, drama, suspense and the twist you will not foretell. I highly recommend reading this perfect retelling.

"You think being nice is going to get you anywhere?" Ledger spits out, grabbing the priceless crystal slipper from the entrance table and carelessly throwing it in the air. He catches it, but nearly drops it a few times.

No," I answer truthfully, feeling his resentment deep down in my gut. Twists and knots only make the ache in my stomach worse. Not to mention the throbbing in my constricting heart. "Being respectful and truthful will get me where I need to be."

"Is that place cleaning out my toilet?" He scoffs and shakes his head. "Because it must be fucking glorious seeing the world from a ceramic vantage point."

"The only turd I see is you." The comment is meant to strike a nerve because it comes from pure truth, even his father calls him a little shit sometimes.

This book follows the book Imperfect Princess and it sort of ends on a cliffhanger. This book follows the story of Ledger and his family and servants along with Norah and her mother. Norah needs money for med school, so her mother gets her a summer job as a maid for Ledger at the family mansion. Norah grew up with the triplets; Ledger, Nola and Lizzie until Lizzie died, then Norah and her mother were kicked out. Now Ledger is hiding out at home from an indiscretion that has gotten him into trouble with the board of trustees over his inheritance and he is trying to find Nola whom he is convinced has gone missing. Ledger's parents have retreated to their other home to get ready for their annual charity dance. Things go from bad to worse for Ledger when he learns of all the stipulations he is under from the board and his grandfather's will; he starts getting cryptic messages from his missing sister; and he must put up Norah and his growing attraction to her. At first Norah wants nothing to do with Ledger, she just wants to do her maid job and work on her internet presence as an investigator into unsolved disappearances of which Nola might be one. There are references made to events in Imperfect Princess and this story has quite a few surprises in it. It was definitely not boring to ready and was hard to put down.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ahhhhhh!!

Another amazing story by Sonya. Ledger got his story!

We first meet ledger as a side character in imperfect princess, and I was hoping that he would get his story too!
In true Sonya style, it wouldn’t be one of her stories if there wasn’t some twists and turns in it.

Norah gets a job as a maid for a family she grew up with, having never really had any money but when she was a kid, she played with the Brighton triplets, having moved away, her mum asks her to come back just for the summer. Then she would have enough money to go to University.

Not banking on going on a wild goose chase, following clues left by ledgers sister.

Ledger has been told he has to behave, but can’t help but want answers about his sister Nora disappearing and the secrets the family seems to have.

The more they both dive into the secrets the more there are uncovered. I LOVED IT!

Sonya has a way of getting into your head, not been able to function right until you get the answers you want and need from the stories!

Shook is part of the Internet Famous Collection. The story involves millionaire playboy Ledger and Norah, his maid for the summer. They haven't seen each other since they were kids. Now Ledger's sister is missing and Norah seems to be the person with the answers to the clues left behind. I did end up enjoying the story overall. I really liked the "scavenger hunt" that they go on in order to interpret the clues that keep being sent to Ledger. I'm a sucker for puzzles and clues in my mysteries. I didn't guess what was really going on, so that aspect was enjoyable as well.

As for the romance, I did like that the couple had somewhat of a history together and their flirty banter was enjoyable. The only thing I didn't love about the book was the constant feeling that I was missing some back story. I don't know if these characters show up in another book by this author. I was a little confused in the end as to who some of the characters were and how they fit in to the overall mystery. Still, I do recommend reading it.

This was story of drama in a rich family. The help seems to be the ones that take care of the kids then the parents. Ledger has two sisters, Lizzie who is suppose to be dead but isn't and Nola who runs away and has nothing to do with her parents. Ledger is suppose to take a seat on the board but he needs a wife. He grew up with the Maids daughter Norah who comes back to help Ledger who is still struggling with her sister's supposedly death. He believes she was cremated. Norah tries to be his friend again but he doesn't want her help. But Ledger and Norah do get close and have a sexual relationship. Corbin and Dominic want to know where Nola is and the pair kidnap the parents and Ledger. Nola sends ledger and Norah on a scavenger hunt to find clues. In one of the clues Ledger fines his biological mother. Orin his butler and confidant all his life is his biological father. This story had mystery, friendship, love, sex, drama and some weird things happen. The book was worth reading and to find out what happens at the end.

HOLY HELL!  Shook was an EPIC modern day retelling of Cinderella and I simply couldn't get enough. Ledger comes from a wealthy family, but there's no love in the home from the parents.  He lost one sister, and just when he's about to turn 21, his other sister goes missing.  His parents aren't taking it seriously, so he's going to figure what's going on.  Norah was asked by her mother to be Ledger's maid, and she wasn't big on it since she had a grudge against the whole family, but she did her mother's bidding.  These two do not get along whatsoever, but when Norah comes to him about clues to find his sister, they start on a crazy journey full of twists & turns as they race to find her before it's too late. I'm telling y'all, this story was AMAZING, and I stayed on the edge of my seat with heart pounding cover to cover.  So hit those one click buttons to experience it all for yourselves!  HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Norah hates the Brighton name and everything it represents. She especially dislikes Ledger. He was once a bit of happiness in her childhood, but ever since his family kicked hers out of their home, he's been her #1 enemy. But, needing funds to finish school, she accepts a job at the Brighton estate, spurred on by the rumors that one of the Brighton sisters is missing and feared dead. When clues start popping up all over, Ledger & Norah form unlikely allies.

Based very loosely on Cinderella, Shook is a twisted whodunnit that left me wondering if I had forgotten to read a prequel or something. I loved the games and twisted puzzles, but I felt a bit confused, especially near the end. New characters and connections were introduced in a rush, leaving my head spinning for a bit.

I recommend it to mystery/thriller fans who love a good puzzle.

Excellent from start to finish
4.5
This story strikes an excellent balance between mystery, romance, and the main characters's hatred for each other, mixed with money, the image of wealthy families and a troubled past.
It’s exciting from start to finish. I had never read this author, but loved her story.
Norah finds herself working as a maid for 3 months for Ledger, the son of her mother's former bosses. She hates him for what he is or for his behavior, and he seems to be giving her back. However, Norah's passion for unsolved crimes and the disappearance of Ledger's sister, plunge them both into a past they do not suspect, full of lies, manipulations.

What a great way to kick off a new series! Ledger comes from a wealthy family and he is internet famous. Only this time he is famous for a certain video of a less than flattering episode in his life. Norah is a video blogger and her platform is doing documentaries on missing social media stars. Ledger's sister is missing and Norah wants the story. Neither one likes each other at the beginning but both needs the other to further their own agendas. I really enjoyed reading their story and all the twists and turns this story took. It was also good to read about some previous characters from the CamU series.

Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Well done.

I thought that this book was quite enjoyable. This was a very fresh and intriguing twist on the classic Cinderella story. It is dramatic, suspenseful, edgy, twisty and tension filled read that had no problem with luring me into its complex web. Ledger and Norah are skillfully crafted, layered characters. They have an intense chemistry and I found their banter is sharp and witty. This was a new to me author and I must say I was impressed. I will certainly be looking into more of this authors work in the very near future. I am electing to post a frank review.

Shook by Sonya Jesus, mind blowing! I loved the little bits and pieces that connected back to the modern princess collection but also just in general, Sonya is an amazing writer who draws you into her world and always keeps you guessing.

I love that I’m not just getting a hot romance, I’m also getting a mystery that needs to be solved and they actually work together so well. Ledger and Norah are so different yet so alike, they are also really hot together.

This has definitely been one of my favourite reads of 2020.

This retelling of Cinderella definitely had me SHOOK. This thriller definitely had me hooked, not wanting to put it down, trying to figure out all of the puzzle pieces that were given. There were so many unexpected twists and turns that I never would have expected what came at the end. Ledger and Norah were perfect, and I was so happy that they reconnected and then took it further. It's just such a shame that Ledger had to go through all that he did. Great addition to this collection.

This was an interesting, dark take on Cinderella. Friends/enemies-to-lovers, second-chance-ish. This one took me on a journey. Norah & Ledger went on a crazy scavenger hunt in search of a missing family member while learning all their family secrets. How even though they hadn't seen each other in years, the families were connected in more ways than one. This was dark and twisted enough that it left me kinda confused. I may have to read it again to see if I understand the second time.

Even though I'm a huge fan of Sonya's and she can do no wrong in my eyes, Shook was definitely a page-turner! First, Ledger Brighton is one of those sexy assholes that you love to hate, mixed in with some sarcastic banter from his "Cinderella" Norah and you've got yourself a book full of angst, drama, suspense and a twist I guarantee you don't see coming! Shook is for sure a must read!

The storyline was definitely a page turner and I was excited to know it was a suspenseful story. I had to read with the light on a few times, haha. The writing sometimes felt out of place and if I just kept reading I would understand eventually. It was a little frustrating to read at times but ultimately it was a really good story. My mind is blown when it all comes together, I love what she did there, totally unexpected.

Shook is Book 1 of the Internet Famous series and certainly started this series off with a bang. Murder, intrigue, drama, suspense, and romance all rolled into one. Norah and Ledger were complex characters with lots of layers. Albeit brief, I enjoyed the quick glimpses the author provide of Kai and Thorn. Based on how this story ends, there is definitely more to come and I cannot wait.
