A murderer on the loose. A career on the line. If she fails to catch him, she’ll lose more than her job.
After a recent mistake, FBI special agent Frankie Johnson is desperate to prove she has what it takes to become a lead profiler with the Bureau’s Charlotte, NC field office. So when the district attorney’s daughter is discovered bound, raped, and murdered, she volunteers to assist the local detective on the case to help find her killer. The evidence leads to two suspects—the victim’s husband and her lover—but after a series of intense interrogations, the detective finds himself no closer to uncovering the truth. It’s clear both suspects are lying, but about who, what, and when?
Frankie develops four possible profiles based upon the murderer’s motive and intent, but with the facts shifting daily, any one of them could prove correct. She battles the headstrong detective to convince him of her findings, but with physical evidence that is simultaneously damning and circumstantial, she senses their only hope in finding the true killer is to uncover the lies in their suspects’ testimony.
Now, it’s a race to expose someone who knows the deception game as well as she does. Can she see through the misleading words and actions of a killer to uncover the one lie that will expose the truth before a killer walks free?
99 Truths is the electrifying first book in the Frankie Johnson FBI Local Profiler thriller series. If you like cop dramas, heroines with heart, and surprising twists, then you’ll love Lori Lacefield’s chilling mystery.
I write suspense thrillers, including the Frankie Johnson FBI Local Profiler Series, and the Women of Redemption Series. Each book in the FBI series features behavioral analysis and crime scene investigation as Frankie is called in to profile and hunt a brutal killer. If you like books by Lisa Gardner, Catherine Coulter, Meg Gardiner, Mike Omer, A.J. Rivers, or Alex Kava, you will like this series.
The Women of Redemption series is a theme-based series that focuses on flawed, but realistic, heroines who must face the consequences of their actions when their past circles back in unexpected ways. These women aren't perfect, but perfectly kick-ass when given a second chance. If you like books by L.T. Ryan, L.T. Vargus, John Grisham, John Ellsworth, or Victor Methos, you'll like this series.
I began my writing journey many, many years ago. S.E. Hinton and V.C. Andrews were early influences, followed by Stephen King and Mary Higgins Clark. I have far too many favorite authors today to make mention of them all, but John Grisham, Michael Connelly, and Dennis Lehane are high on the list. I love reading new authors as well as diverse voices.
I'm a lover of coffee, books, music, yoga, wine, travel, and most of all dogs. I currently live in Colorado with two senior Pomeranians and one feisty Papillion.
This is a good book with tension and lots of action. I thought it dwelled a little too much on some of the FBI procedures and the analyzing and categorizing of suspects, but it is still a good story, with a little twist at the end. There were a lot of suspects, and you have to wait until the very end to know which one was guilty. I recommend it.
Thanks to the author for a digital ARC of the book.
I loved this until the end...how many hands does the bad guy have, holding her ponytail with one hand and a knife to her throat with the other...oh and also pulled his keys out of his pocket and stole a gun from someone....

I saw this book on Kindle unlimited and it sounded so interesting so why not give it a shot. Oh my god I did not expect what I read. I enjoyed this book so much. Did I guess who the killer was? Yes, but was I still surprised by why? Yes. Will have to start reading the second book soon!
A district attorney's daughter is raped and murdered. The D.A. wants 'all hands on deck' to find her killer. He believes it is her good for nothing husband, but there is something there that keeps nagging at Frankie that he isn't the killer. She is also up against a very well-liked detective with an impressive record. Still, there is something that seems 'off' to her. Can she find out what it is and prove she knows what she is doing? She is fighting an uphill battle in more ways than one in this story. Great characters! The story was fantastic, a lot of emotions and mystery. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Looking forward to more from this author.
A lot of novels explain police procedure but this one focuses more on the FBI behavioral analysis and profiling which I thought was fascinating. The author definitely put time into her research and I enjoyed learning about the deception indicators. The 2 suspects both had equal means, motive and opportunity and Frankie had to use everything she knows to discover the true killer. I truly enjoyed this book! Thank you for allowing me to be part if your ARC team!
When I found out this was a novel about a profiler for the FBI, I knew it was a book I would enjoy. I have been fascinated by profilers for quite some time. I like how the profiler examines the crime and determines the psychological, and often physical, profile of suspects. Frankie Johnson is a profiler, and she is determined to re-establish herself as someone capable of profiling a suspect and getting justice for the victim. When the DA's daughter is the victim of a violent crime, Frankie and her partner, Ben, are called in to assist the Charlotte PD. Enter Deke, the lead cop on the case and friend of the DA and his family, who resents their participation in his case. Deke has his sights on Lianna's husband, Stewart, as well as Joe, the man with whom she was having an affair. But Frankie isn't convinced. Meanwhile, Ben, is trying to nail "The Impostor" who is running a Ponzi scheme and targeting the wealthy. As they work their cases, Ben and Frankie continue to work in partnership. I did suspect the killer early on, but was puzzled by a few things. I liked how Frankie caught the one lie among the 99 truths. I am excited to read more of this series. Thanks to Lori Lacefield for the ARC. All opinions are my own. #99Truths #LoriLacefield
A very well written thriller. A real edge of your seat page turner. A new author to me and I really enjoyed her writing and will be reading more of her books. I received an advance book from the author and this is my unbiased review.
I enjoyed the story but I was disappointed that I had figured out the killer by half way through. It was an interesting read and kept my attention so I will see what else this author has written that might be interesting.

99 Truths is the first book in the Frankie Johnson FBI Profiler thriller series. It is a Kindle Unlimited (KU) book so you can read it for free. I love to read books that take place in N.C . The fact that most of the book takes place in Charlotte N.C. Which is not far from me along with the description had me wanting to read this. This is a great suspenseful beginning to this series and very intriguing. The twists and turns kept me guessing. I was back and forth with the who from the very start. Never did I predict the ending to turn the way it did! I Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves cop dramas , surprising twists and suspenseful reads!
*******Disclosure******* I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review. I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.
99 truths was the best suspense novel I have read in 2022! I was drawn in from the first few pages. It was gritty but it wasn't too much to the point where I couldn't finish the book. After reading 99 truths I am excited for book two. I enjoyed the book because it has multiple characters that could have committed the crime, I didn't figure out how it all came together until the last few chapters. I felt as though I was with Frankie solving the crime. The series is well written, it has a amazing plot, great characters, the book it flows very well from beginning to the end. The book is very fast-paced, once you start reading it will be difficult to put it down. I'm so glad Amazon recommended Lori Lacefield to me. I have never read anything written by Ms.Lacefield before, after reading 99 truths I will be reading more books by Ms. Lacefield. Thank you for sharing your gift with us.
Frankie and her partner Ben are tasked with helping the local police department investigate the murder of the DA's daughter. Deke and Bragg are the local detectives on the case they are combining forces with. Plenty of suspects and diversions make Frankie question her profiling abilities along with a simmering attraction between her and Deke. Convenient evidence, lies, misdirection, and alibi's that just don't match up have the four of them trying to sift between truths and lies. Ben is also working on another case involving financial scams and He & Frankie use their husband and wife cover to find out who the "Imposter" is while trying to bring justice the the murdered. Twisty and couldn't put down
This book is amazing! The story is full of exciting scenes. The characters are so real! Relationships are outstanding. The plot of the story unfolds with each chapter adding important information relative to the case. And Frankie Johnson is such a determined investigator, it's no surprise that she ferrets out every last piece of evidence and eventually puts everything together to solve the case. But along the way there are roadblocks and detours, some natural and some thrown up by others who don't want the truth to be told. The book is well worth the time to read and enjoy all of it. I highly recommend it!
It may just be me but I felt the author used a lot of cliche’s building Frankie’s character—the character thought in cliches— vs building a well-rounded character. Frankie is supposed to be some kick-ass agent, yet her internal dialogue makes her seem a bit unbalanced, sorry I can’t find another word that describes the picture I built I of her character.
I’ll give it another try later and it may flow better. More than decent just not what I’ve come to expect from this author.
I read so many suspense novels that I am always trying to figure them out before the mystery is revealed. In this book, Lacefield had me second guessing myself several times over! She even threw in an unexpected twist of bringing in a suspect I was not expecting — without spoilers, I’ll just leave it at that. She kept me on the edge of my seat through the very end, which is always a sign of a great suspense novel. Can’t wait to read more Frankie!!
Loved the characters. I had trouble getting into the story in the very beginning, maybe due to only getting to read small amounts. Once I had time to sit down and read a few chapters before having to put it down things picked up. My take on who dun it changed a couple times early on but I finally settled on two options and one was correct!! It is a definite page turner with lots of twists and turns thrown into the mix. It makes you think which I like!
I won this book here on Goodreads. Thanks you. I enjoyed this story. Liked the FBI characters and will probably look for the second Frankie Johnson book due out, I think, in October. The profiling Frankie does is so interesting. The story moved along at a nice pace. I never felt it drag. It was fun watching (reading) Frankie figure out what was going on. I recommend this story.
This is the 1st in a series about Frankie Johnson an FBI profiler. The district attorney's daughter is tortured and murdered with no clue who did it. There are plenty of suspects, husband, boyfriend, strangers and lots of clues, some real, some false leads. It was my second book by Lori Lacefield and I am looking forward to more with these characters.
This book had me on the edge of my seat! Everything in this book had me second guessing everyone. Go figure liannas husband would be prime suspect , yet the only thing he’s guilty of is two timing her. Sadly it’s always someone close who can commit something so horrible. In the end Frankie gets her way . This book was great can’t wait to read book 2.
This thriller had some twists and unexpected turns. A good read that held my attention. This was my first time trying this author. I will definitely try some of her other books.
This was a dull book. It was too talky and the perp was easy to identify. That Frankie is mixed race is repeated incessantly. The secondary investigation is equally dull. Disappoibted.
This is the first book in the series and it’s fantastic!
Frankie is smart, independent and determined to find the killer. This is a great suspense/thriller that will keep you on your toes and each part of the story is uncovered.
As everyone before me has said- this was no whodunnit. The “unsub” was obvious from Chapter 1. The real twist would have been if it wasn’t that person. I think that’s the only reason I continued reading, hoping I was wrong and that this book wasn’t one overly long cliche.
