Everyone made mistakes, but some were far more dangerous than others…

Fin McLaughlin wanted nothing more than to make a difference in his work with the FBI. Headhunted by the deputy director of the Bureau to head up a new division located in St. Louis, Fin was determined to make amends for the mistakes he’d made six years earlier that had almost cost him his career—and his life.

Those mistakes had cost him Agent Ana Sorin, and he would never forget that. Fin had never treated a woman the way he had her, and he never would again. He just wished he could tell her that someday.

Ana had spent six years recovering from the nightmare explosion she’d shared with her former partner Fin. When Fin walks into the St. Louis FBI building where she’d rebuilt her career, Ana was at a loss for words.

Not to mention she didn’t have a clue what to do next with the tall, good looking man who was about to become her boss!

Too many issues had been left unresolved between Ana and Fin and between them and the man responsible for the bomb that had nearly killed them both.

Too many things had just been left WAITING for all of them.

They had waited long enough…

Who is Calle Jaye Brookes?

Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).

Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?

In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!

Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.

She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.

She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.

They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.

I could not finish this book. After losing his arm, Fin turned to alcohol. He drunkenly cornered Ana in a supply closet and forcefully kissed her without her consent. This is after having verbally abused her as his partner. Ana is so traumatized that she transfers jobs, has nightmares, and cannot be alone with him without being afraid. Years later they are working together again, and now he is the love interest? No. No. No. Stop writing stories like this. This is not romantic. It is abuse. It perpetuates rape culture.

Waiting: The Prequel (PAVAD: FBI Romantic Suspense, #0.5) by Calle J. Brookes

Waiting is another Prequel for this series and it was another one of my favorites.

Enjoyable reads.

I found this book dragging at times, and the amount of characters was just confusing. I am now thinking about whether I should read the next book, I want to know what happens, but I’m just unsure about continuing with the series.

A good start to a new series (for me, who is as usual, late to the party). I am sorry these were so long on my TBR list, but this year my aim is to try and clear a lot of my TBR list before adding too many more books to it, so I finally got started on this series and I am glad I did.

So many books so little time!!!

Nice series

I really enjoy this series. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go back in time to read a prequel, but I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. The background information on Georgia and Hellbrook gave a new perspective to their relationship. I also liked Ana and Finn's story. Their interaction with each other had begun years ago and ended disastrously. When they were unexpectedly thrown back together again 9 years later, Finn is immediately drawn to Ana even though she is rightfully a bit scared of him. As the two of them become a part of the newly forming PAVAD team, Finn works to repair old mistakes while Ana strives to focus solely on their cases. A surprise event changes everything in their relationship just as they catch the attention of an old enemy who intends to exploit their relationship for his own benefit.

If you enjoy this series, you won't want to miss this book. If you've never tried the series, this book is a great place to start.

Good. Really good! Didn't put down until finished!!

Enjoyed how the writer got characters together. I'm surprised there wasn't an IA complaint in the midst. But from what I've seen, one usually gets promoted or transferred. The first time I've realized sexual harassment was real, was when our boss at a trucking company was sued by someone he felt sorry for. We all joked in the office, except with "her". We dealt with airlines and bonded cargo. She wore short shorts and constantly tried to entice the guys. They were afraid of her. So, she took the owner to court in behalf of the other three women. I was oblivious. Then again, Miami. Anyone would file lawsuit. Second time I've heard of harassment in work place, it had been mutual. Everyone in office was aware of it. Guess the boyfriend found out. I'd like to know more about the author. Has she worked on law enforcement? Otherwise, that must have been some extensive research!

Lust can turn into something more. Especially between coworkers. One simply acts upon that desire; or walks away. Either way, the turmoil of it comes with headaches. The fact that after so many years one can still hold to those same fears, I agree. Some things don't go away.

My one less star rating was for the ending. Was intrigued about subject Dale's family. What would become of them? Was the story finished too soon? Did it get processed as a Federal case? or, "did they get rid of him?". 👀 Hey, it's a book after all.

Edit: never mind. As soon as I finished the book, I had marked it five stars. After all, it did keep me up all night. Just glad is Sunday now... 😴

3.25 Stars FBI Agents, Fin and Ana, experienced a traumatic event, and now years later they find themselves assigned to the newly created Prevention & Analysis of Violent Acts Division-PAVAD. Years ago, they not only shared a dangerous situation, but also a very demanding and intimidating kiss.
The books starts with promise, then the storyline drags on for numerous chapters. There is one hot sex scene, that was very unromantic and extremely quick. The plot takes a turn I wasn’t expecting, nor were the main characters.
The story becomes more interesting when the PAVAD start searching for a serial bomber. This villain is a complex and somewhat fascinating character. I think the book would have been better served, had the storyline been more about his crimes, instead of giving the readers quick scenes on a few other violent criminal acts. The bombing suspect takes a cunning and unusual step that brings intrigue. It was that intrigue that bumped my rating up from 3 to 3.25.
The readers receive some insight into the other PAVAD team members, especially Hellbrook and Georgia. There certainly is friction between these two, so much so, that I can’t wait to read their story next.

I've read every PAVAD book

And this one wasn't my favorite, but I love this series. I read the entire series within a month and couldn't put them down. I read the series in order except for this book, it should have been first but I found and read it last. This book was quite tame compared to the others. The romance was a little one sided and the violence against the female captor/lead was muted which I appreciated because the other books were almost brutal compared to this book, but like I said it was still a great read and I would DEFINITELY recommend this book and this series. As of now, Ive almost read EVERY Calle J. Brookes book/series and I will be sad once I've finished, I have so far LOVED every book.

I have been reading

Callie Brooks books, whenever I can find one for free! Callie, would you please consider putting your books into Kindle Unlimited. I'm certain I'm not the only one who would appreciate it. I have enjoyed each book immensely. I think this book, is leaning towards being my favorite, this far. I read pretty fast, about two or more books per day. I can't say anything about language, type errors or whatever. Maybe if I read slower, I would pick up on this. I'm reading for enjoyment. I guess we my eyes fly across the pages, they don't notice mistakes. Although, I know everyone makes them. Read this book! I highly recommend Waiting and all of Callie's books.

Cons: The characters feelings gave me whiplash. One minute Ana is scared of Fin, the next she’s interested in him. I didn’t feel the chemistry between them. I like a good grovel. Ana was too forgiving IMO. The flow of the story was choppy. Lots of details were left out. Also, if Georgia is such a strong female, why hasn’t she confronted her antagonist?

Pros: Even though the flow was choppy and thin on details, there was enough to keep me interested. (I finished reading in 2 days.) Between the many characters (which can be a con trying to keep all the names straight) and many crime plots, there is great potential for future stories in this series. I can only hope the author’s writing style grows with each future book.

Engrossing story

Ana and Finn knew each other nine years ago when tragedy struck, and although they think of each bother frequently, they have not seen each other since. That is until Finn is called in to be Daniel's second in command for the new PAVAD unit with the FBI. There's a slow smoldering fire between them that neither wants to acknowledge. When Ana ends up pregnant from one night of weakness, she knows she wants to keep the baby, but is unsure how he will react. That coupled with a crazy unsub who gets off killing women who look like her, make them both nervous. This couple will make it and they finally admit they feel love between them, but it's not an easy ride to get there. Another edge-of-your-seat thriller by a really talented writer.

If you like the TV series Criminal Minds, you'll probably like this series as well. It was predictable and the pace is slow, but I had the hardest time with all the different names being used for the same people. Pick one and stick with it. One time it's George, another time it's Dr. Dennis, or Georgia, or just SA Dennis. There weren't so many characters that you'd lose track if the author didn't use so many variations of their names. I found the romantic side of the story seemed to drag on forever and the action side involving their cases too disconnected from the story. Overall, a tad disappointing on the delivery of what might have been a good plot and needs a lot of editing.

Wasn't as action-packed as I would have liked - a bit slow at times, so not really a crime 'thriller'.
Also, the notion that a 15 minute sex session occurring under everyone's nose on an outdoor balcony where anyone at any given moment can interrupt it, gives enough time for 2 participants to be fully satisfied, and lead to conception as well, is ridiculous!!!!
Most sexually satisfying sex sessions between a man and a woman will take time: it can take at least 20 minutes to get a woman excited enough to participate, according to Masters & Johnson.
I found this read interesting but at times, boring.

Suspensful!

At first, I couldn't exactly grasp what this story eas about but I liked the cast of characters enough that I wanted to keep reading. The character development was fascinating and detailed.

The layers of suspense unfolded so naturally and I enjoyed how the story of Fin and Ana wove around several investigations and into the main crime, culminating in a great climactic moment.

I didn't feel as if I was required to read the next book to "get" what happened in the story. And, the only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 was because its SO long...I usually like a faster read. But, to Calle Brookes benefit, the chapters were short.

I'm not sure how to describe this book. It is much like the show Criminal Minds.
I liked the characters most of the time, even though the woman's anxiety gave me anxiety.
The plot was good and fast paced even if there were things that were a bit obvious. I liked that the entire book didn't focus on just one case but several.
BUT, I was not satisfied with the resolution though,; after all the angst the main characters suffered I expected more from the resolution, but will not add anything to keep this spoiler free.

PAVAD: FBI Prequel Two -- Waiting

I love the PAVAD series books!! My only complaint? I need a scorecard to keep everyone straight in my head!!! There are several families involved here intermingled with each other that I sometimes find myself getting a little confused, but the stories are so good I keep gooing back for more!!! Hope you all enjoy this series as much as I do!!!

Another good beginning to the series and it lays out the foundations for the following books. The characters are intriguing and the storyline is good. I can't give it any higher than three stars, however, because of some jarring grammatical errors and inconsistencies in timelines. A good editor would have caught theses mistakes. That said, I still intend to continue reading the series - I'm now hooked.

I received this e-book free from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing an honest review. Ana is a tactical strategist for the FBI. Fin is a profiler for the FBI and nine years ago they worked a case and both of them almost died while working it. Now nine years later they are again working together as part of a super elite unit of the FBI called PAVID taking down the bad guys that others can't, while denying a mutual attraction to each other.

not bad. there were some glaring editing mistakes ("tallehassee") but the characters were solid enough. honestly, its a lot like criminal minds. i liked the fact that the events in the book took place over several cases and months. this is technically a prequel, and book one is free on amazon, so i did go ahead and pick it up as soon as i finished this. so there is that...a writer who makes you want to continue spending time in the world she has created is doing something right.

A LITTLE OVER-THE-TOP WITH EXPLAINING THE WORKINGS O THE PAVD UNIT AND ANA’S ANXIETY, REPETITIVE WITH VERY LITTLE SUSPENSE, TOO MUCH PERSONAL STUFF GOING ON WITHIN THE TEAM. I KEPT WONDERING WHERE WAS THE SUSPENSE, WHEN IS THE STORY GOING TO PICK UP. IM FINISHED AND STILL WAITING, NOT AS GOOD AS BOOK #1 OR THE PREQUEL NOVELLA, THIS WAS MOSTLY ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS WITH A TINY BIT OF SUSPENSE. BLAND. ;/

I will admit up front that I totally didn't finish this book. I was at 50% and decided I had tried long enough. It was super wordy without really saying anything. There was a TON of information given without really adding to the "story" and I use story in a loose manner. This is supposed to be a RS genre and it seemed like the suspense was added in just to take it out of the romance genre. This series, nor this author, is for me.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SUSPENSE DRAMA

This second prequel gets further into the reorganization and structure of PAVAD. More of the prominent characters are added and how new Teams are being structured. There are several individual cases investigated in this book showing how each Team and it's members identify and solve cases. Fin McLaughlin is selected to be second in command to Director Dennis. In this book Fin is reconnected to an agent from his past.

Exciting suspence

Drama, love, hate, suspense, mystery, and of course love..... it only takes a while for Ana to realize the love. An exciting FBI story as Ana and Fin try to get past the tragedy they faced together nine years ago. Fin lost an arm and Ana (a rookie then) has a tremendous fear of elevators. They haven't seen each other since then when suddenly they are together on a new FBI unit. Scars from the fast are hard to put behind them.

This is an OK book, not great. I hung in there long enough to finish it. Lots of action. The romance part felt forced. I could feel the male protagonists feelings much better than the somewhat chilly female. And lots of credulity being stretched with the Director's daughter working for him, massive shifting of teams, etc. All in all, not bad. I doubt I'll continue the series though.

Intriguing

I loved this book! It kept my attention and had me cheering for Fin and Ana. It is a prequel but still a decent length. The story is fairly "clean" with only mild descriptions to what occurs between characters. This book introduces you to a cast of characters that provide plenty of material for future books! Can't wait to read more!
