The Time #1

Our Finest Hour

Rate this book
Two lives. One hour. A lifetime consequence.

I believe in choice, not fate.
I chose to nurse a broken heart at the kitschy country bar that night.
I chose to let Isaac Cordova buy me a drink.
I chose to spend one hour with a near stranger in an attempt to soothe my pain.
No last names, no details about our lives, just one hour where I was allowed to forget, and then we would never see each other again.

But was it a choice when I ran into him five years later?
I needed help, and he was the only person equipped to give it.
Our instant attraction doesn’t feel like much of a choice either, but it doesn't matter.
Everything has changed.
Now my choices impact other people.
And what will I choose?
Do I keep Isaac out?
Do I dare to let him in?

i saw this on tiktok and it sounded way more interesting than it actually was. the guy from her one night stand who is also the biological father of her child, shows up at the hospital because he’s the surgeon going to be operating on her (their) daughter. he doesn’t know it’s his daughter. (sounded really interesting, spoilers kind of from here on out but not really). she is going to tell him immediately the next day but he comes to her home first, already knowing that it’s his daughter. basically everything goes off without a hitch, there was so many opportunities for drama but it all went smoothly and i found it to be extremely boring. there wasn’t really any drama or plot twists or conflict and i struggled to continue reading. it had lots of potential but unfortunately wasn’t executed well. sounded better on tiktok than when you read the book. it’s also fade to black so i really didn’t feel their connection at all. wasn’t even convinced they really even liked each other, never mind were in love. it’s a no from me. sorry.

Read it because I saw from someone how good it was.

I had trouble connecting to the characters. I couldn't feel the emotional connection and it all felt a bit flat. I think this was stretched out far longer than it should have been.

This was my first book by Jennifer Millikin and I enjoyed her writing style. I also really loved the hero. It had my least favorite troupe, so that's usually not fun for me. I had no idea that a was in this one, and even though it wasn't done the best way it's still not my favorite. Very few authors can make me love a book with this in it, so it's definitely a me thing.

I did like this book but it was with one of my least favorite books.
The writing was good and the romance was definitely cute

I felt the hero had way too much patience for the heroine after finding out she had his baby 5 years ago. Her father offered to hire a private investigator; however she refused as well as lied about the babydaddy's name.
I understand she had abandonment issues but she was a straight up bitch and needed a punch in the face at times. I couldn't stand the heroine!

This would’ve gotten 5⭐️ from me if it actually had some smut instead of fade to black scenes.

I know how that sounds, but in this case I think it would have really made what I was already feeling for the characters all the more intense. I think they deserved to have that connection explored deeper.

Despite this feeling (to me) pretty heavy, it was quite wholesome all around. Almost no angst in the traditional sense which made it fly by. I think this was one of the few books where the FMC was “grumpy” (but not really, just reserved, closed-off) while the MMC was the “sunshine”.

Aubrey’s uncertainty and risk-aversion that manifested over time, into adulthood, from her mother abandoning her as a child was utterly powerful. The way she continually tried to overcome it so that trauma wouldn’t affect her daughter was beautiful to read.

This book was beautiful.

I was reading reviews about how many people couldn’t connect emotionally with the book/Aubrey. I wonder if it has to do with those who do vs. don’t have good/healthy relationships with their mothers. This really hit me hard and was therapeutic in ways.

Based on the synopsis, never would I ever expect that special something the main characters were sharing would be the exact thing I disliked most; thus, this book was just an okay read for me. If it weren't for my newly-discovered, newly-favorited author, I didn't think I'd pick this up in the first place. To my surprise, the overall story was still well-plotted and I sort of enjoyed the protagonists' journey by the end of it. :)

Full review to come...hopefully soon.

I really loved the way this story was written! I haven't read many surprise baby romances, and when a reader of mine told me to check this one out, I was NOT disappointed! And I think the cover is gorgeous, so I'm 100% getting it in paperback for my shelf. Definitely recommend!

read because of the hype!!
that FOMO is some scary shit and mostly unsuccessful experiment
I enjoy the trope but there is something missing for me here..
after a while heroine's inner monologue got exhausting..

Aubrey is pregnant after one hour with Isaac, he does not know and she can't find him, skips 4 years later and he's the doctor who gives their daughter her surgery. It was a good book i finished in a few hours.

Truly a must read I enjoyed it immensely. The beginning was a little choppy, I wanted to know about the addition of Claire. Being pregnant, struggling school and birth. I think we were cheated. It turned great about 30% So do not worry my friends you will be rewarded. Special mention to Lucia because her story blew me away

I wanted to like this book, I really, really did. And after I finished reading it I read some of the reviews and noticed that quite a number of people did like it. But I'm an island on this book and it was a struggle at times to keep going.

I'm going to start with the positives
Issac is a most excellent hero. He's a doctor. He's sensitive. He's yummy. He steps up to the plate faster than one can say I have a daughter and wants to be a very active part of her life. He's a very A+ type hero.

Claire, their daughter is wonderfully written. Usually I'm meh about children in books, but Claire was adorable.

Mike, Aubrey's dad is the kind of dad I wish there were more of. He's kind of the strong, stoic and silent types but he's very supportive of Aubrey and a wonderful grandfather to Claire.

Now we come to Aubrey and unfortunately she left me ice cold. While I did appreciate she had every intention of letting Issac know about Claire, she loses track of him and once they connect again, although overprotective, she is very open to having a relationship develop between Claire and Issac. But that's the only good thing about her. Yes, I get that she's never gotten past the fact that her mother abandoned her and her father and it's a gaping wound that never healed. But when you have a gaping wound, you do something to heal it for pete's sake. Why did she never go for counseling? Why did she give this woman who simply vanished have that much affect on her that is was still having a major impact on how she saw life and herself? It completely got in the way of anything happening between herself and Issac even though he's wonderful to her and their daughter through most of the book and there was a very strong attraction between them.
A number of time I thought 'get over it' and I was frustrated with how patient Issac was with Claire. I really didn't see what he saw in her except for the fact he was Claire's dad.

The book is well written and I'm glad it works for so many. It just didn't for me though.

3.5 ✨

There were sooooo many grammatical errors and typos / spelling errors I almost DNF’d. Even you’re / your mistakes which I find completely unbearable while reading.

The story was fine. Very bland. It’s an accidental pregnancy but there is no “drama” — well there is but it’s irrelevant. The couple have no drama together it’s immediately just a love story, which I imagine some people actually want a love story with no conflict, so I can’t rate too harshly for that.

The female mc was a nightmare. Her personality sucked. Which was apparently bc her mom abandoned her as a child and started a new life in another town. She claims this caused her severe commitment issues… but only to her babydaddy ofc not to her ex Owen ? Lmao idk I guess we all cope with trauma different bc my dad did the same shit and it did not make me unbearable.
Actually I guess I should confirm that part with my husband but I’m ALMOST certain.

I see a lot of reviews hating on this one but I actually loved it. It wasn't necessarily that the story was mind blowing, it was more the way it was written. I didn't want to stop reading this. Although I do wish the scenes weren't fade to black, it didn't take away from how much I enjoyed the story. I loved all the characters, especially Isaac. He was amazing. I think I just click with this author's writing style, will definitely continue the series

This book was short, enjoyable, and easy to read. There wasn’t as much angst as I think there should have been especially with how mindblowing the experience being told is. If you want a quick read with HEA and little to no angst read this.

TikTok failed me. This book was drawn out, boring, slow, and it’s a clean romance. Seriously not one sexy scene after all that???? Our heroine’s woe is me attitude was over the top for the subject matter. I’ve gone through shit twice as bad, and if I ever became as closed off and insufferable as this main character…. I don’t know.. but it wasn’t good.

No sé si no es el momento o qué pasó, pero que aburrimiento. Me salté un montón de páginas, y a pesar de ser corto se me hizo eterno. No empaticé nada con Aubrey, uy no.

Another stellar novel ♡ Aubrey is so broken through most of this story. Her salvation comes from unexpected sources to her way of thinking. Isaac is sweet and strong. They're the perfect pair to help heal each other's brokenness. This novel sees Aubrey take a huge emotional growth. Isaac is constant in his resolve to be there for her. The characters were wonderfully written and the plot was detailed. The ending was absolutely perfect and I couldn't have wished for a better conclusion.

This was a decent book. I pretty much enjoyed all the characters in the book. Except for Aubrey. She was difficult and I tried to be understanding. I know that her mom left and she never recovered. She also made it hard for her to have a relationship with Isaac and he was a good catch too. Thankfully in the end she got her act together and could finally let herself be happy.

I don't wanna go into to much detail but thus was a surprisingly good romance. I like it so much I finished it in 2 day. This is sweet, touching, heartfelt, just all the feels and I love it start to finish. I'm definitely intrigued to read the other books in this series. If you're looking for a good, simple, sweet romance, this is the way to go.

Our Finest Hour - Jennifer Millikin

*Book Rec*

“𝑰 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒕𝒐𝒐. 𝑳𝒆𝒕’𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒍. 𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓. 𝑾𝒆’𝒍𝒍 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓. 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝒖𝒑, 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒆 𝒊𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒐𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒔. 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅?”

When an author makes me fall in love with SECRET BABY you know pigs are flying out there somewhere. Another short book that packs a punch that I adored. While yes again, it's fade to black I didn't even notice because of how invested I was in the LOVE STORY. Because to me romance is love not just spice ( I think as a whole the romance community lost that point along the way. )

“𝑵𝒐𝒃𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒚 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏. 𝑰 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏’𝒕. 𝑵𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆 𝒂 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕.”

Aubrey and Isaac both going through a moment where they just needed comfort decided to give each other one hour of their time. Years later that moment comes full circle when Aubrey's daughter needs surgery after a fall and when the surgeon walks in....her "One Hour" from the past...Isaac. Things quickly move forward and Isaac falls hard and fast for his little girl and realizes what he's always felt with Aubrey....everything.

TIK TOK you don't stop...to the TIK TOK you don't stop...so I would have never known about this story without...wait for it...TIK TOK. I saw a video for it on my FYP and was SOLD. So two birds one stone situation I got an amazing, addicting love story AND I found myself a new author with a backlist of books for me to one click and read. I am a fan. This story was quick to connect, pulled on my heartstrings, had the perfect amount of angst that kept me GLUED to my kindle as I plowed through it. I HAD to see how it would all play out. I absolutely adored this story and I am forever grateful to the Tik Tok community for placing it in front of me. LOVED IT. xo
