The Time #2

Magic Minutes

Rate this book
*Author's Note: All books in The Time Series are standalone.

Yesterday, I got engaged. I said yes to a man who loves me, and I love him. Happiness should shine brightly from my head to my toes.

But that’s not happening.

Despite this ring on my finger, I can’t stop looking back at my life, back to the boy who cast a spell on me a long time ago.

It’s true, there is no love like your first.

I was eighteen when Noah Sutton stole my heart. He was destined for greatness, and I could barely scrape together enough money to help my mother pay our rent. We spent that summer pushing limits, breaking rules, and living in moments I thought would last forever.

None of that stopped us from breaking each other’s hearts.

I could tell you we were too different.

That we were doomed from day one.

You would probably agree with me when I say first loves are rarely last loves.

Or, I could start at the beginning, and tell you our story.

There’s just one little problem: the more I think about Noah, the more certain I become that I’m marrying the wrong man.

Oh, boy. I think this is going to get messy.

REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!

Noah & Ember went to high school together and they got together just before they graduated. They had an instant attraction & connection and spent a few months falling in love before Noah had to go to Stamford to play professional soccer. Ember had to stay home & take care of her mom & sister so they stayed in touch for a year or so but the long separations & missed calls forced them to call it off.

Flash forward 4 yrs & Noah comes home for his brother's wedding and runs into Eden. They find they are still in love with each other & spend two days together professing their love, until he gets a call that he made it into the big leagues in Atlanta and they break up again.

Two years after that, Eden is in a relationship with Matt whom she has been seeing for 8 months. They had flown to London for vacation and headed back home, when at the airport she runs into Noah again who has been injured.. Noah too was not celibate and dated "models".

Up until this part, I was enjoying it and would have rated it 5 stars, except what is the purpose of writing a Romance when you have the two main characters break up, not once but multiple times and to be with others - all while claiming that they are the loves of each other's life? Mind you, in all their breakups & make ups, they kept saying ILY only to move on to other people afterwards and it's not until he gets injured and his career is in question & heroine is engaged that he determines to fight for her. Give me a break! This is not a romance for me!

I originally said that this book was looking like a 2.5 rating, but I changed my mind. To start let me say that these series are not connected in anyway. Don’t get me wrong the author mentions the first characters a little in this book but that’s it. These books are more like standalone’s. They are different characters with kind of the same plot just different settings.
Also this book was decent given the fact I was kind of bored halfway through it. I showed a little emotions when I got closer to the end because I wanted these characters to work. I did like that the author tried to incorporate a bit of realness to the characters. As well as I like that she did include background and a good sense of character development. I felt for the characters and was able to picture myself in their shoes.
Overall this wasn’t bad but I wish it was a tad bit better.

Magic Minutes - Jennifer Millikin

*Book Rec*

“𝑳𝒆𝒕’𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆,” 𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 𝒊𝒕. “𝑹𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒘. 𝑰𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒔. 𝑰𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒇𝒆𝒘 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉𝒔. 𝑰𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒖𝒔.”

This was stressed me OUT and made me so upset, but damn it, Jennifer worked HER magic and I just friggin loved this. Right Person, Wrong Time at it's finest. The amount of depth and story Jennifer puts in such a short book is TRUE talent. While there is no spice in this one, I personally do not need when the story draws me in so much I don't even realize it's missing. For someone to make me love young MC romance that's huge 😆

𝑰 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒆. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒆. 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆.

Noah and Ember were always meant to be, but young love doesn't always work the first time around. Time, patience and heartbreak come first. When you're young and in love you don't always make the most mature choices (hence the stress lol) Circumstance and life happen tearing Ember and Noah apart, but fate intervenes and brings them back together JUST in time. Another win for Jenny.

𝑴𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒚 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒇𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔.

Overall I liked this book. It was a good love story. It just sucked that they had to keep breaking up. Thankfully they got it right in the end. They both deserved a HEA.

This one was more of a challenge for me to review, and it took a few days for me to get over an Ember/Noah hangover and separate thoughts from feeling. I love this author‘s work so I jumped at the chance to read an advance copy and this story was beautifully written with tons of emotion, as I've come to expect from her. I loved both of these characters and appreciated their mature, responsible approach to things. It was clear that they were great for each other and really belonged together.

Ember and Noah fall in love their senior year in high school. Their love is real and they want to be together, but things don’t work out that way. For a large part of the book they're moving on with their individual lives, only to get tossed back together periodically. Each time, the love is still there, but circumstances again keep them apart.

There were a lot of ups and downs on the road to forever, so if you like your romance to build consistently to the inevitable happily ever after, this one may frustrate you. Most of the book I spent thinking, “Will these two ever get together?” or “Good grief, these kids just can’t catch a break.” I ran through scenarios in my mind, thinking if only he or she would do this or that differently, they could avoid all this. But it was also clear that the journey these to took was the one that was right for them. They both had things to learn while they were apart that they may not have learned otherwise.

Fortunately, this author knew she would put readers through the wringer and gave us enough in the last part of the book with Ember and Noah finally together for good that the book ended on a high note and a happy sigh. This is an emotional, and somewhat wearing read but definitely worth the time and heart investment. The writing is heartfelt and beautiful and the characters are complex, admirable and endearing and immediately worked their way into my heart. If you’re looking for romance with depth, feeling and heart that leaves the reader a bit tattered but happy and satisfied, you’ll love this book.

Even though I am a big Jennifer Millison fan, I probably shouldn’t have read this book.

For one thing, I’m not a fan of YA stories and half this book takes place when the couple is in high school. I really struggled with this part and was only able to keep reading because they weren’t stereotypical high school students.

Also, I read the reviews and knew I probably wouldn’t be a fan of the story. And I wasn’t.

But the second half of the book held my interest better, and this author is a great storyteller and I enjoy her writing. This book just wasn’t for me.

I had to give it 5 stars

It wasn’t perfect; in fact, it was frustrating as heck every time these 2 love birds decided to take the high road and set the other one free. They were so obviously soul mates that it was excruciating whenever they were apart. For that reason I almost quit reading it! However, because of the first chapter I knew they eventually got it right, so I persevered. The ending was worth the journey. I want more of these two! I wanted to see them happy and content. I want to see them years in the future with children. You hear that, Ms Millikan? This book spent most of the time with them apart. How about writing their future happy ever after story?

Magic Minutes by Jennifer Milliken is the second book in the Time Series. I have not read the first book, Our Finest Hour, but this book seemingly stands alone for me. I didn’t feel like I missed anything by not reading the first one. I will go back and read #1 now because that is how my brain functions haha. Ms. Milliken is a new to me author and I was thoroughly impressed with her debut (to me) novel. Magic Minutes receives 4.5 stars from me.

Noah and Ember are from the opposite sides of life. Noah is a soccer playing heartthrob who comes from money. Ember is a simple girl, working hard to pay her way through life and help her single mom and sister. One mistaken drowning puts Noah and Ember in each others’ lives and it was a match made in Heaven.

Noah has only one focus in his life, soccer. He had a girlfriend but they broke up recently (she cheated) and he dives back into conditioning his body for stardom. When he happens upon a girl drowning in the lake he doesn’t hesitate to jump in and save her. When she comes up yelling and angry he can’t stop thinking about her and how she makes him feel.

Ember is a free spirit. She goes swimming in the lake and starts to dance in the water. Next thing she knows she is being dragged to shore by none other than Noah Sutton. She knows who he is but he has no clue they have gone to school together for years. She finds herself distracted by him and the chemistry the feel.

This was a very well written love story, from teenage intense crush to adult love. The way Ms Milliken tells Noah and Ember’s story has you feeling like you are right there with them going along for the drive. You can feel the pain, angst, love, heartbreak, confusion, all the emotions that come along when you find your first true love. The story weaves and winds over years of their relationship, coming together, breaking up, pulled back together again while life interferes. A good example of how life leads us along our predisposed path whether we are ready or not.

For a new to me author it is rare for me to find something I enjoyed so immensely. 4.5 stars for Noah and Ember’s love story. Which also finds us diving into Sky (Ember’s sister) and Brody (Noah’s brother) back stories, along with the parents sprinkled in. Throw in snide talking grandma and you have a great family drama. I received an advance copy of Magic Minutes without any expectation for review. Any and all opinions expressed are my own.

There was magic the first moment they met. Her playing the unsuspecting victim and him playing the white knight. She usually hides in the shadows. Doesn't seek out attention. He is one of the schools star jocks dating the hot cheerleader. There is an instant attraction. Too bad he will be leaving for college soon. There is a lot of selflessness happening in this book. And much of that leads to heartache. With everyone telling them it work work out, and to move on, can they prove that their love can withstand the time and distance or will that be their ruin. Just when you think things will work out for them, it all crashes once again. This has that whole 'If you love it, set it free" thing going on. Both the H/h characters are endearing, lovable people. Neither comes across mean spirited at any point, even when in pain, they only wish the best for the other. As much as it was heartbreaking, it was also heartwarming to see their love for each other. Any sexual content included is more alluded to. Not graphic, and safe for teens and up. I appreciated that aspect of the book. Their relationship wasn't driven by the physical desires they had. While they had some good kissing scenes, it wasn't full of lustful thoughts. As much as I enjoy those steamier reads, often times it feels like sex is the driving force of those relationships. Not the case in this book. The book reads easily and rather quickly. It alternates between the two POVs.

Sweet story about the magic of young love.

This isn't a true second-chance romance, more of a how-do-we-make-it-work story about two kids who fall in love just as they're embarking on their adult journeys that take them in different directions.

The lyrical writing style just drew me in right away as the author exquisitely captures the feelings and sensations of first love. It's a beautiful story, beautifully told, with characters that will live in your heart for a long time.

As the story went on, though, it became harder to balance their all-consuming feelings for each other with their willingness to part and move on without the other. In the end it all works out for a splendid HEA, but their roller-coaster journey seemed a bit at odds with their undying devotion.

All in all, this story does a good job of capturing the warring passions of young love, asking just how much of our own personal goals should be sacrificed - exchanged - for a once-in-a-lifetime love, and how these choices affect the other people in our lives. The subtle but significant side story with the handwritten book of poetry demonstrated that this is a timeless conflict, affecting all generations. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Magical and sweet, with joy and hope

Magic Minutes by Jennifer Millikin is a sweet romance that follows Ember and Noah from their coming of age to adulthood. This truly is a magical story in that the these two characters, are filled with such joy and hope! Even when they are at their lowest lows, there is a sense of hope and joy too beneath the surface.
The characters that Jennifer Millikin created for this book are endearing immediately. Ember and Noah together are so adorable. Separately, Ember is self-sacrificing and selfless for everyone she loves. Noah, unintentionally, is selfish yet self-sacrificing in his own way. After a great deal of sacrifice on both their parts, things finally start coming together. I also really liked all the supporting character, especially Dayton. He is just what Ember needs and is a true friend.
Overall, a very well written book that explores a true love couple to their much deserved HEA.

I just didn't get the connection for them. Noah's gf breaks up with him and that's when he notices Ember. All of a sudden he is obsessed with her.
Now they are dating but Noah's dream is to go to college and play soccer. When he gets the chance to go he promises Ember they will stay in touch. 4 years later and Noah is back in town for his brother's wedding. He makes promises that he can't keep. Even though he supposedly loves Ember, he loves soccer just a bit more. He goes off again and leaves her to pick up the pieces.
Finally Ember moves on and is engaged to be married, until Noah comes back and it starts all over again.
I just don't get why she let Noah be her whole entire focus and she just couldn't let anyone else in. I didn't feel any connection in their relationship it just seemed like Noah used her until his dreams called then he was gone. For how much he professed to "love" Ember he never chose her first until the very end but by then it should have been to late.

What a beautiful story. Having read a lot of instalust or instalove stories lately I think I was becoming a bit jaded that there could be a story written about first love that would grab me so quickly and tightly along for this truly realistic and heartbreaking ride with Ember and Noah. More of an emotional look from their first encounter to the crap that gets in the way of being able to stay in the bubble, all the way to the sacrifices we sometimes make and/or have made for us. Love is always that thing that no one really knows how to describe but this author has managed to let the reader get a glimpse of what it can feel like and the pull it has when some part of you knows it could be the real thing.

Noah and Ember met in high school when he thought she was drowning and saved her. In the process, Ember teaches him do much more than he ever thought possible. The fact that they are from different walls of life doesn't stop them from falling in love. Unfortunately, chasing his dream will force them apart and in a must heartbreaking way.
Four years later, Noah returns home and sparks fly between them again. Now that they are older and wiser, can they figure things out, or are they destined to only live each other for minutes at a time? Their chemistry was off the charts. Their relationship was sweet, yet frustrating. They both had to go through some heart break and briefing pains in order to figure themselves out. When his career comes back, will it spell the end for good, or will Noah and Ember figure out how to be happy and in love?

Alright, so Magic Minutes is definitely one of those books you just want to fly through. It’s super easy to read, the characters likable, and Jennifer Millikin knows how to create that warm, cozy feelgood vibe. Perfect escapism.

for me personally, it was a little too soft. I kept waiting for a bit more spark, some extra drama or a twist to shake things up. I needed something new to happen but tbh Noah just kept making the same mistake and Ember kept for giving him for it and it just didn't felt right with me. also sometimes it felt a bit too safe when I was craving just a little more intensity.

Still, if you’re in the mood for a sweet, heartwarming read that leaves you smiling, this one totally delivers. It’s the kind of book you want to curl up with under a blanket and a cup of tea. If feelgood-without-the-drama is your thing, Magic Minutes belongs on your TBR! 💕

Magically sweet

This is a first book that I have read by the author, and I have to say that I am magically entranced by her story. I loved this book and I will be sure to read her other books in this series. Its also great to note that this is a standalone one - separate from her other books. If you believe in "soul mates" I guess this story would likely cement it for you. At first it is heart wrenching, but there are always second chances - the one that will give you your break and not lose it again. I wont be giving any spoilers, because I would have to say that it is worth to spend every magical minute reading this book. This is my 4.5 rating :)

Magic!

That's a fitting title for this book. It's magical. Even though I knew of the happily ever after ending this book caused my heart to jump into my throat. I couldn't wait to the end for them to be together. I didn't know how much more I could take off the breaking hearts. My heart broke with them each time. The author had me so invested in this story line that I couldn't break away. I had to get through the book to see how it ended up happening but then I didn't want it to end. I want to know everything about them now. I hope they appear in the next book just as Dr. Cordova did in this one just for a second.
Thank you Jennifer Millikin for 2 amazing books in this series which I'm sure it's leading to a third. You really know how to keep your readers all in!!

this was excruciating. i'm not vibing with the book because of the high school phase.

1. it's too long
2. why would u pass up a great opportunity for love ???? NOAH!! WHY!!

the silver lining is ember. i loved being in her head and i loved seeing her grow into a mature woman

the latter half was not so bad. i appreciated it more and got through it faster also.

this book is one big right person wrong time kinda book and it's excruciatingly slow and heartbreaking if you could relate. unfortunately, i did not (especially with the high school majority of the book). i don't find it very logical to pass up opportunities when a person is still so young and for love???? not me.

This is the first book of this authors that I have read, but can’t wait for the next one. Ember and Noah are high school sweethearts who are from two totally different backgrounds. Ember works her butt off to help her mom, who cleans houses, and her sister Sky, who is older, but suffers from severe anxiety. Noah is the privileged son of a vineyard owner who just wants to play soccer. However he also wants Ember. Noah goes to college and Ember stays home to help her family. After many obstacles, they find their way back to each other, but will it stick this time?
Well written, fun, sweet, heartbreaking and heartwarming. Can’t wait for more!

Well written story with great storyline and plot. Characters are likeable and well described. Their passion and chemistry is amazing. Two high school sweethearts are going different ways and have to call their relationship off. They meet again and have still got sparks between them. He leaves ones again and she stays back in their hometown. They are on and off several times and that annoyed me a bit. They see others but cannot forget each other. When everything crashes he fights for his girl but it is very late in the story for that I think. But it could have been reality so why not.
Worth the read and one-click. Captivating for the big part of it and engaging.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, 5 stars for me, if I could give it 10 I would. This is one of the best romance books I’ve ever read. I cried my eyes out for sadness than happiness, my emotions were on the ride with them!!! Absolutely fell in love with Ember & Noah. I know people say he was selfish, she was stupid, how could they be with other people, etc., they were trying but their pull to each other was too much. They were young, young love in its purest and not handling everything perfectly. Sounds about right!
I’ll be buying hard copy of this book so I can reread it when I want a good cry and then see a happy ending!
Spoiler alert their cameo in The Lifetime of a Second had me welling up for their happiness again!!!
Thank you Jennifer Millikin, you’re becoming my new favorite author!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the second book in the Time Series. It is a total standalone. There are no recurring characters. Noah is a star soccer player and the son of a wealthy family. Ember's family is barely making ends meet, but she is strong, confident and enjoys living. When Noah finally notices Ember, their time together is magic. But after high school is over, life keeps getting in the way. This is a wonderful, heartwarming, sometimes heart-wrenching book. Strong 4.5 stars.

Magic Minutes is the second book that I have read by Jennifer Millikin and I love her writing style. She weaves such a great story. Magic Minutes is a beautiful love story about two soul mates. However as with many relationships life gets in the way. There are many ups and downs, at times you will giggle and swoon and other times your heart will break for them. It is truly a beautiful read. I couldn't put the book down because I was dying to find out how it would end. I highly recommend this book.

From the moment high school senior, Noah "saved" his classmate Ember from drowning, they had a deep connection and love that they knew would last forever! That is until their dreams of college, careers and life in general get in the way...not once, not twice, but three times! While they both love each other, it never seems to be enough to keep them together or will it finally keep them together for good? It's a very emotional, but great read to see how they get their HEA. I highly recommend reading it!

Noah and Ember meet in a unique way and then can't seem to shake the other. She of course knows who he is from school but she has always lived in the shadows. That all changed when Noah came in "her" picture.

This book had a lot of breakups though, but you still see the love between them and it just never seemed to be the right time. But to me meeting in high school is rough, college can easily break a couple up when it is long distance...and it just never seemed to be their time, until it was.

This is told in dual POV.
