THE DREAM OF AN IDEAL SOCIETY? Is it a wonderful "utopia" or a totalitarian nightmare? Will everything be free or will deep-state bureaucrats decide who gets what? Did Plato, Thomas More, & Francis Bacon propose social ownership of property? Is there a difference between socialism and communism? Did Pilgrims attempt "a communistic plan of life"? What happened? How did the Pilgrims' covenant under God become the Age of Enlightenment's social contract with a distant God, become the French Revolution's social contract with no god, become Marxism's "the state is god"? "If the state gives rights, it can, and inevitably will, take away those rights"-Eisenhower. Was France's Reign of Terror a model for future socialist revolutions? The Bible talks about private property, yet Marx "The theory of the communists may be summed up...Abolition of private property." Coolidge wrote "It does not follow that because something ought to be done, the national government ought to do it."
It’s well past time for America to wake up to what has, for years, been allowed to creep into our schools, institutions and lives. Socialism has never EVER succeeded in creating a utopia anywhere it has been tried. And it cannot be allowed in America. Our country, however, has turned its back on God to our shame and worse. May we turn back to him now that he may have mercy on us.
William Federer has written a well researched history of socialism and its evils. We would do well to take it seriously.
A very clear warning to our country! Our government is now operating on the idea that the people derive their rights from the government. They have forgotten or ignored the constitutional principle that the government is the servant, not the master.
Mr. Federer does an excellent job of documenting the ideas behind socialism and how it is a very patient system that infiltrates and takes over from within a country by either initiating or taking advantage of a crisis. By giving the people what they think they need, they cause the people to believe that the government is responsible to continue supplying all their needs. He quotes Gerald Ford's statement, "Do you that a government big enough to give us everything we want is a government big enough to take from us everything we have?"
Super great book! It's very eye opening, containing the history of both socialism and communism from over the centuries. I've always known that socialism and communism are terrible, but I never know exactly how and why until this book. Definitely recommend.
Good premise, that a Biblically trained electorate deciding how much power to give a government is better than a socialist government taking what it wants. I agree.
But…the writing style is so choppy. It’s like a bunch of note cards put together. Or, a bunch of PowerPoint taking points. He references and quotes many people, but each quote is edited making it look like the quote may be out of context. Each section hopes back and forth over topics making it hard to follow.
If this author could make this more like a well-researched thesis instead of a choppy contextual mess, he would be much more believable.
Mr. Federer is brilliant and filled with knowledge. The information in this book is enlightening and frightening because the characteristics of socialism are in operation in our country and are easy to see, when we understand the content. The challenge is the layout of the material. It makes for some challenging reading to understand, at times. That's why I gave it 4 stars rather than 5, but I recommend it for everyone who cares about liberty.
I found this book from AFR and I’m so glad I did, the history in this book, described with such passion. You can see this guy has studied history all his life!!
Just wow. Federer does an incredible job analyzing and summarizing relevant history, speeches, and Biblical text to show where we are today with socialism. He also does an excellent job explaining how socialism needs to remove Christianity, takeover education, and create fear in order to survive. Everyone should read this book to see how we got to where we are and how to overcome it.
