"We know from reading science that all students are most successful when they receive intensive, comprehensive, and high-quality instruction as early as possible. " page 150
This was a well-written, informative, evidence-based book written for teachers (in a large school or homeschool setting) and parents to assist them in understanding the best methods of assisting all readers, particularly those who struggle with reading or have dyslexia, with becoming strong readers. It encouraged me as a homeschool teacher in the curriculum I have selected (All About Learning (Reading/Spelling)), and provided me with further resources and thoughts to consider, as I provide my children with the best individualized instruction to grow strong readers who can successfully move from learning to read to reading to learn.
It's a magazine styled book but packed with well researched information. Some real good information in there for parents and care givers. I liked the fact that there were feedback and real life experiences shared from a wide variety of people having hands on experience and knowledge about the condition
This is a super easy read. She does a great job making this an engaging book that is easy to chunk for a class or book study. I liked how she mixed in real stories from teachers, scientists, and students. A must-read for all educators.
States a lot of obvious information about literacy , phonics and how teachers shouldn’t talk so long kids loose attention. A few good charts. Last chapter useful. Should have been put in the dyslexia font for dyslexics like me!
Really well-written and easy to ready through. Loved all the explanations for the countless vocabulary that exists within the reading instruction world. This gave me some key indicators to keep an eye out for with the students I give reading instruction to. I would recommend this book!
