This is an overall decent book. I took a star away because it only has three stories and some of the answers provided are wrong. Overall, it is great for reading practice.
If you are a bit more than a beginner it's not too bad a book to have a go at reading. There are just three short stories for you to practise the french you know already. The first one is about a boy called Andrew who's living in a small block of apartments and the postman hands him a parcel which just has the address of the building on it but not the individual number of the flat. So he goes to each floor to ask each person if it is their parcel, the parcel contains a lot of glasses with different coloured frames (he had opened it, hmm). He learns a little about each person living in his building, what puzzled me was that the parcel belonged to the last person who lived on the top floor, he was blind (new word for me), his eyes are closed. He had a guide dog. The parcel was full of glasses with different brightly coloured frames??
Anyway moving swiftly on, the next short story was about aanother youngish person called Frank who had just moved into the area and he discovered it was Mardi Gras, and there were a lot of names of colours to be learnt here plus the traditions of mardi gras itself. Well at least he made a lot of friends and got to see the procession and eat a lot of food.
The third short story is about yet another young boy called Ivan (are no other genders available? is this written by a man?) who goes off to visit his grandparents in his t-shirt in february. It's snowing. Now if he were my grandchild I would be questioning why he was visiting in a t-shirt. Presumably the french are made of hardier stuff. Anyway we learn a lot about different weather formations as his grandfather appears to be an amateur meteorologist and the lad clearly went to a very good primary school as he talks to his grandparents about climate change and all that brings. At the end the sun came out I think, and I guess that exonerated the boy arriving in his t-shirt.
This is a good free book to read if you are learning French. Just what I wanted in a collection in short stories while trying to familiar myself with French.
Very beginner and very short, but free on Kindle. I wouldn't pay for it. At least one of the comprehension questions seemed to me like it had the wrong multiple choice answer marked as correct (What is the weather usually like in February? Marked hot when it should be cold). Also, I have a suspicion that these stories were written in English and translated to French because there are a couple of jokes that work in English but not in French. For learning, it seems like it should be the other way around.
Gives exactly what it states on the cover with easy to understand stories for beginners. Books like this will only be good as long as you’re a beginner since they becoming quite boring with decent comprehension. Expectations met but not blown away by a book like this.
