"A must-read for expectant or multitasking mothers of multiples by an academic pediatrician and mother of twins, Twins 101 provides practical tips and wise words in a readable style that fits into the fast pace of these mothers’ lives." ― Theodore Sectish, MD , associate professor of pediatrics, Harvard Medical School; program director, Children’s Hospital Boston Dr. Le-Bucklin's new parenting book is the first by a pediatrician who is also a mother of twins. No other pregnancy and parenting book for multiples offers this unique and much-needed perspective. Twins 101 features practical advice and well-researched information in an easy-to-read format. From maintaining a healthy twin pregnancy to meeting the daily challenge of caring for twins, Twin 101 guides families through each stage with insightful tips, practical advice, useful resources, and inspirational stories.
I skimmed half of this book looking for calm and practical advice about having twins, but I didn't find what I wanted. Instead, these tips have a very alarmist tone, especially the ones suggesting that moms should put themselves on bed rest whether the doctor recommends it or not. Some of the tips about the NICU may prove helpful if our babies end up spending time there, but here in the second trimester, this book is more likely to cause more anxiety than to quell any of my fears.
Nice, quick, easy read for those who are expecting twins. I liked that it was in small, digestible tidbits. Many books for parents are overwhelming and this did not make me feel overwhelmed at all.
I really like this slim volume's format. The author who is both a pediatrician and twin mom saves you the trouble of regurgitating the same old same old stuff on the progression through the trimesters. She saves us all the hassle of a long read and puts nuggets of wisdom in a tip format that can be read here and there for busy people/parents or twin parents to-be or folks with short attention spans.
I found this book almost pointless. There is a lot of medical stuff that only needs to be read if you are having a difficult pregnancy. Also most of the tips were obvious. Some of the tips were how to discount shop, keep a good sense of humor, take lots of pics, make time for yourself, etc. There are other books that offer better and more useful information.
This book was very well written and full of knowledge! I only wish the author would write an updated version because some of the information was antiquated, for example which products are best/safest to buy and some of the resources listed in the back. Otherwise it was a very thorough and helpful read for a parent expecting twins.
Read. Quick, easy read broken down into sections and quick tips. However, having already had kids and doing a lot of my own research, I didn’t find any of the tips revolutionary and didn’t really learn anything new from this book. Would be good for a first time parent though.
Listened to this book on loan from the library. It was an easy listen. I will perhaps listen to it again in the future when the babies are here when I find time.
This is the fourth twins/pregnancy book I've read (we listened to it in the car while driving across Wyoming and Idaho), so none of the 'tips' were earth-shattering for me, and some were downright silly, but there were some good/useful tips and lists, and even the non-new stuff is always good to hear/read again.
I really enjoyed this book. Written by a mother of twins and a pediatrician I felt comfortable that the advice was well founded, and the book was written in quick snippets which made it easy to read on breaks a little at a time.
A little dated and a lot of medical information that may only apply to big hospital NICUs. Not much new info, but a few good tips made it worth the read. I liked that it was broken into small tips that were quick to read.
This is the first book I read when I found out we were having twins last July. It was a great starting point. The author includes many reassuring statistics and advice, from both her experience as a mom, but also as a doctor. I recommend this for expectant moms of multiples.
Helpful and calming to someone who got the news we were expecting twins and nearly hyperventilated. This is filled with good, no nonsense advice from a pediatrician who is also the mother of twins.
A short, well-organized primer on twins, pregnancy through early childhood, by a pediatrician and mother of twins. Thus, far the most helpful book on the subject I've read.
