Enjoy this stunning holiday collection from some of your favorite Dragonblade Publishing authors in this collection of never-before published seasonal tales!
Imagine, if you will, that it is Christmas Eve.
The candles are guttered, one by one, and a hush falls over the parlor. The children have gone to bed, and a tall, gloriously decorated Christmas tree looms in the shadows of the hearth’s dying embers. A tattered copy of Charles Dickens’ masterwork, “A Christmas Carol” sits, cold and lonely, upon a table nearby.
A small gust of wind, hurling from the seam of an ill-fitting window, blows the cover open. The first chapter appears… “Marley’s Ghost”…
The clock on the wall chimes midnight.
Now, the magic happens.
From the gaily bedecked halls of Regency England to the cold and crisp air of the Scottish Highlands, and everything in between, enjoy the magic of a holiday collection that has drawn inspiration from Charles Dickens’ most beloved literary works. Where the ghosts of Christmas, the incandescent spirit of a tiny disabled boy, and the joy that is the very heart of the Christmas season come alive.
USA Today and Internationally bestselling authors bring you their version of a Dickens’-inspired holiday in O NIGHT DIVINE.
This collection includes:

“There is nae ‘life after love; life is love, and loving is life.”
THE LAIRD’S YULEBRINGER O Night Divine is a holiday anthology written by 21 authors. All the stories take you back in time to the Scottish Highlands, the Regency Period, the Victorian period, and even the Elizabethan period. All of the stories channel Charles Dickens with helpful ghosts and love. The authors are: Kathryn Le Veque Caroline Lee Chasity Bowlin Hildie McQueen Maggi Andersen Mary Lancaster Meara Platt Violetta Rand Alexa Aston Anna Markland Anna St. Claire Aubrey Wynne Charlotte Wren Elizabeth Ellen Carter Elizabeth Johns Elizabeth Keysian Emily E K Murdoch Emily Royal Lynne Connolly Maeve Greyson Whitney Blake
and they really bring the Christmas spirit with these tales.
One thing about this collection is that it has 21 stories and each story is roughly 50 pages. In previous anthologies that I have read, there are usually 8-10 stories and range 150-200 pages each. Needless to say, these stories move extremely quickly! Some of them left me a little disappointed because I wanted more. All of the authors created some amazing characters and stories but 50 pages just aren’t enough.
However, I did have quite a few favorites!
1) The Laird’s Yulebringer by Caroline Lee takes place in the Scottish Highlands and Callan is mourning his wife who died a year before. He has a young son and everyone around him is pushing him to move on but he just can’t. That is until a spirit comes to him and shows him his future with another woman and a child. He believes it was all just a dream until he sees the woman and child in the forest.
2) Never Keep a Secret at Christmas by Maggi Anderson introduces a grumpy old man named Lord Hawkinge. He has no family that he talks to and keeps to himself. That is until a spunky young woman climbs their neighboring wall. Alice knows that he is only grumpy because he is lonely. So she writes to his heir and grandson. He comes immediately, dreading to see his grandfather, and is completely captivated by Alice.
3) Her Star from the East by Mary Lancaster is such a touching love story. It is Christmas and Emma is not happy. She misses Selim, her Prince from the Ottoman Empire. He is a good friend of her brother and she has been in love with him since she met him. One night she sees a star and she wonders if she follows it just like the wise men did, that it would lead her to him. Then Selim appears…
4) How to Get an Earl for Christmas by Violetta Rand introduces Rose and her brother Timothy. They have been cast out of their home by their half brother. They soon discover that they have a godmother who is to help them with their mother’s last wishes and that includes a betrothal for Rose.
5) The Heart is Never Silent by Aubrey Wynne is probably my favorite out of all of them. Henrietta and Horatia (Etta and Tia) have to flee their current situation. The man that is supposed to be Tia’s guardian, plans to marry Etta and send Tia to an insane asylum since she is deaf. They come across Dr. Wharren who feels called to help them, but can’t deny his attraction to Etta.
All of these tales have beautiful love stories but my favorite part is all the little references to Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol. There is so much charm and love that is perfect for the holiday season! Overall, I rate this collection 4 out of 5 stars!
‘‘Twas an Executioner Knight before Christmas. Kathryn Le Veque ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋 Amusing and slightly dark look at Max of Loxbear’s child rearing capabilities. The man only knows war and killing, so when telling the Christmas story he puts his own take on the characters and the reasons. Children are impressionable, and when a ghost shows him his daughters future, it’s a bit of a shock, But can he change ?
Love this, so different.
The Remembrance Of Love Meara Platt ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋 I have a massive soft spot for this author and this series. If you’ve read any of the others in the ‘book of Love’ season you may have come across both the Brayden‘ sand Farthingales, this is about Romulus and Violets daughter Hyacinth, and Innes who is a Dukes son and former cabin boy on Romulus’s ship.
Now adults Innes and Hyacinth meet again, and show how easy it is to fall in love, but will Romulus let his little girl go.
It’s fun , sensitive, and beautiful, the characters are full of a wonderful chemistry and passion, and it’s a brilliant little novella that gives you a bit of an ‘ahhh’ moment. Can’t get better than that.
Always the Mistletoe Emily E K Murdoch ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋 A sweet tale that matches Pru Lennox with her childhood friend and now a vicar, Alexander. These two are so sweet , they sort of dance around each other and their feelings.
Always in the forefront of there story are her two brothers also friends of her true love.
It’s beautiful, delicate and satisfying to read. Definitely one to relax with while sitting quiet with a good box of chocolates.
A Yuletide Yearning Maeve Grayson ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋 A pirate take on Christmas Carol, it’s very different, amusing and enjoyable to read. A great vision from past to present to future , changes a pirates mind about love and marriage.
Very enjoyable and entertaining, With some excellent characters. —————————————— This is only a small selection of the stories in this compilation, but it gives you an idea of the quality and just how good these authors are. A wonderful collection!
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Twenty-One short Christmas stories by some of the most talented authors make this a very enjoyable anthology, in which the ghosts of Christmas play a prominent part. Each short story can be read over a lunch break or with an evening cup of tea, and each one ends on a happy note. Lives are changed, hearts are healed and families reunited. Many of the well-written stories in this book are linked to a series, bringing a sense of completeness as familiar characters make their appearance. They also loosely followed a familiar Christmas theme that made me appreciate the authors' creativity. I found myself laughing at times and at others, wiping my eyes. I thoroughly enjoyed the anthology, a copy of which I received as a gift through NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
The Heart is Never Silent by Aubrey Wynne was an absolutely charming holiday tale full of suspense and romance. Etta, Tia, and Gus were all characters that were easy to love. Can't wait to see more to this series.
Can I just say Wow? This collection of authors are truly amazing and together, well I just have to say your senses go from sigh to wowza!
Twas the Executioner Knight Before Christmas Kathryn LeVeque Can you imagine, Maxton, one of the hugh Executioner Knights, with his small children around telling the Christmas story? With his spin on it, there there knives and bloodshed involved and very impressionable ears taking it all in! He has a "visit" from a ghost of the past, a man he had tremendous respect for who pointed out what he was doing to his daughters with his stories!! Making them into warriors! Loved this tale!
The Remembrance of Love Meara Platt The Famous Book of Love that I really want to get my hands on! If you have read any of this wonderful series you know how it works! If you have not, I encourage you to ready every story and fall in love yourself! This time we have Hyacinth and Innes. Innes had been a cabin boy on her father's ship when he was a youth. Now years later it is time for Innes to marry and Hyacinth wants to be the one. But can she convince him and will these two come together. Enchanting and fun.. Loved it!
This is a collection of short Christmas stories by twenty-one authors. The stories are set in Christmas time and are about themes such as redemption, a chance to change your ways, a time to be grateful for what you have as opposed to what you do not have. The collection is perfect for the holiday season since you can read each story in a short time. You might even find a new author to love! I found reading each story is like reading a mini made for television Christmas story. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
The Executioner Knight Before Christmas: Maxton of Loxbeare is a renowned warrior who tries to connect with his daughters by sharing far too detailed tales of his exploits. It takes a visit from an old friend during a Christmas Eve dream to show him the error of his ways and help him see that he is a good father despite being unsure how to relate to his girls.
The Laird’s Yulebringer: having recently lost his wife and daughter, Laird Callan MacKenzie isn’t in a festive mood this Yuletide, but with the help of his family and a strange dream, he’ll find healing and a chance at happiness again this year.
Making Spirits Bright: Since she was disowned by her family after an attack led her to give birth out of wedlock, Elizabeth Burkhart has avoided the company of men. But with the help of a redemption-seeking ghost, she’ll meet her true match this year.
The Haunted Scot: Naill has been a good soldier, focused on his duty and successfully climbing through the ranks of guards. Unfortunately, this has come at the expense of his family and his wife has had enough. It takes a nightmare vision of the future to show Naill the error of his ways.
Never Keep a Secret at Christmas: Just before her first London season, Lady Alice Dountry is spending Christmas with her sister and brother-in-law. When she learns their neighbor, the Earl of Hawkinge has opted to spend the holiday alone, she writes to his grandson, Lord Hugh Gifford. Hugh immediately comes to make sure his estranged but beloved grandfather is well and rapidly finds himself falling for the lady who now despises him.
Her Star from the East: Emma Sayle is contemplating a marriage proposal her family wishes her to accept. She can’t stop thinking of her brother’s friend, Prince Selim, so when he appears on her balcony on a misty night, she believes him to be a ghost, causing her to realize her true feelings, but too late, or so she thinks.
The Remembrance of Love: Lord Innes Buchan found a place among the Braydens as a child when his father’s new wife made it clear he was unwelcome among their family. He remembers Hyacinth Brayden as a pesky irritant, but she’s a woman now and she may be just what’s needed to thaw the ice he’s build around his heart.
How to Get an Earl for Christmas: Forced from their home by their spiteful elder brother, Lady Rose and her brother, Timothy, must relocate to a seaside cottage left to their late mother. With little funds to sustain them Rose frets about their future, only to find she has a godmother she never knew about and everything has already been worked out for her, including a handsome fiancé.
Yuletide at Gillingham: Reid & Ashlyn have used their vaunted ducal status to enrich the lives of others with the school they’ve established. With one of their students all but abandoned by a wastrel father and another losing his father to illness, this Christmas is one in which they will open their hearts even more.
A Thrill of Hope: Samantha Hindley is having second thoughts about her betrothal to an all too serious man. Unfortunately, it will take a tragedy to bring her to the one she’s meant to be with.
A Gift for Agatha: Lady Agatha has become increasingly bitter with age, choosing to see only the negative in life. After a dreamy visit from her late brother, she is confronted with her own role in her loneliness.
The Heart is Never Silent: With their father’s death having left them in uncertain circumstances, Etta Comden and her sister are tense about the arrival of a distant cousin, the heir to the estate. When he threatens to send her deaf sister to an asylum, the sisters flee north. When their carriage breaks down in a snowstorm and they’re found by the kind Dr. Augustus Wharren, it seems their run of bad luck may be about to change.
Of Christmas Past: Estranged from his family for the past five years, Josiah is facing yet another lonely Christmas, unable to see a way back home, but with help from a well-meaning ghost, this may be the year things turn around for him.
Tidings of Comfort: Reluctantly in London for business, Kit Hardacre has acquiesced to his wife’s wishes and is seeking information about his long-lost mother. But in seeking to fulfill his need for a family, he’ll find that family comes in many different forms.
A Christmas Miracle: Reeling from the deaths of his wife and child and the inheritance of an unwanted dukedom, Alex Hartmere is not feeling festive this Christmas. Returning home to assume his duties also means seeing his first love, Anna again and when he finds her also widowed, he knows he can’t allow her to slip away from him again.
Her Christmas White Knight: Both Julia Wentworth and her former flame Myall Farrar now find themselves in very reduced circumstances, but that same misfortune may be just what’s needed to bring them together again.
Always the Mistletoe: Prudence has always carried a torch for Alexander Michaels and now that she’s of age, she’s hoping the mistletoe will encourage him to finally make a declaration to her.
A Libertine’s Christmas Miracle: Edward Scrimgeour is recluse since the death of his wife and daughter. Reviled by the village, he keeps to himself, tormented by the grief of not being able to save them. When a neighbor needs help during her own labor, it turns out to be an opportunity for him to redeem himself and find happiness again.
Past, Present, Future: Housekeeper Rhona only wants to live in peace, even if it is lonely, but when her lost love, the son of the lord of the manor, returns from active military service, her quiet is upended. His family and his duties kept him from his love, but a major injury has put things into perspective for Frederick and he won’t take no for an answer this time.
A Yuletide Yearning: Stranded by bad weather at his island fortress, Tait McKenzie is miserable this Christmas, missing his family and making everyone around him just as miserable as he is. His quartermaster’s daughter, Ellie, has loved him since they met three years ago, but oblivious Tait has always viewed her as off limits. This year, with him in the cove for Christmas, Ellie is determined to make him open his eyes and see what could be between them and, with a little help from a ghostly pirate, she might finally succeed.
A Strange Christmas Game: Never having met the man, Charles Mason is surprised to inherit a house in Scotland from his late father. At his employer’s encouragement, he ventures north to inspect the property, which he learns is rumored to be haunted. But when he arrives, it is to find not a ghost but a lovely young woman inhabiting the house.
With this I’ve established that I’m not a huge fan of anthologies. That said, this will still appeal to many especially those looking to continue the festive season or encourage a warm fuzzy feeling.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The books range in rating 4.25 to 5 - most are clean, a few just a tad of spice and my review's state this. This to me is a fantastic bundle. Hours of entertainment of many of my favorite author's. I recommend this well written bundle!
. ‘‘TWAS THE EXECUTIONER KNIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS by Kathryn Le Veque
What a unique take on the Christmas Carol, I absolutely loved it. If you are a regular reader of this author she can write epic novels that stay with you. This novella is right up there and it is not your normal take on this classic Dickens tale and I loved how her mind strayed to the darker side.
Bedroom door almost shut just a feeling of their passion. The character's came to life in this tale and that can only be done with a talented author as KLV is.
2. THE LAIRD'S YULEBRINGER by Caroline Lee
I'm familiar with this family from the series, but can be a stand alone. The author does a nice job giving you background. This had a touch of sadness in the beginning, but soon changed.
Even though the future was told in a dream, I wanted to experience their lives together. I wanted to know what happened to make the visitors leave to find a new home.
This is a clean sweet story. No romance but the other character's brought love to the story.
3. MAKING SPIRITS BRIGHT by Chasity Bowlin
Enjoyable read that had a small feel of It's A Wonderful Life. The Angel is nothing like the one in the movie. We are left with questions about how the Spirit died. If he was able to help his sister. These will be answered in books the author will be writing. There isn't a cliffhanger for our H/h. Some of the character's have been in other stories I've read by this author and I've enjoyed them.
This is a clean story with no kisses. They get their HEA after only a couple days.
4. THE HAUNTED SCOT by Hildie McQueen
What a journey! I could feel the pain the h felt because her husband thought more of duty than his family. I was disappointed in the Laird and clan, they knew the fate of the h and her children. Why didn't someone ride the two day journey and inform the H what was happening to his family?
Very mild lovemaking within marriage, heat level 1.5 out of 5 if that.
I admired the h for her strength and caring for her family, the H not so much. He is shown his past by a spirit and realizes his errors and tries to make amends. No cheating, HEA and a tad of spice.
5. NEVER KEEP A SECRET AT CHRISTMAS by Maggie Andersen
Sweet story reminiscent of Scrooge. The h takes it upon herself to talk to an unapproachable neighbor who doesn't want to be bothered. She slowly wears him down and they begin a chat over a wall.
The H had a falling out with his grandfather (neighbor to h). When the H/h meet a connection is made. Only one quick kiss - clean story.
6. HER STAR FROM THE EAST by Mary Lancaster
This was a unique story about our h who is Christian and falls in love with her brother's friend who is Muslim and a Prince. There is no uproar about their different cultures. Only thing mentioned is how far away the h will be . Having this same situation in my family, in the 21st Century, it wasn't easy. The H was very opened to go to church services with the family to learn, which was very opened minded of him.
Clean story, there is another man wanting to marry the h and he causes some drama. No cheating, HEA, feelings come across without the spice.
7. THE REMEMBRANCE OF LOVE by Meara Platt
This author's series THE BOOK OF LOVE and the FARTHINGALE SERIES are a must read. This is a stand alone, but a few character's from the series are in this one. I always loved the H in the mentioned books. Oh, what a sad life he had. I was so enjoyable seeing him as an adult, even if sad.
The h is just perfect! Spunky, loving and not afraid to speak her mind. The secondary character's add to this sweet story. This is a clean story with a few kisses. But, their connection is what was special. They knew each other as children but lost touch when the H had to leave.
8. HOW TO GET AN EARL FOR CHRISTMAS by Violetta Rand
Very short novella, but packed with so much punch it was a joy to read.
Our h was thrown out of her home by her 1/2 brother. The h has a younger brother who has a leg shorter and has trouble walking - sound familiar? She is a very loving and caring sister.
Her mother made plans for her which she isn't aware of. Only a few kisses. Instant love connection, but it worked.
9. YULETIDE AT GILLINGHAM by Alexa Aston
This will tug at your heart! Such an emotional journey! Sadness mixed with love and joy. Two boys at school - one loved by his father and one not. The H/h are in charge of the school and are not your normal Duke and Duchess.
I enjoyed the epilogue 18+ years in the future where you get to catch up on the old students and the H/h. Kisses and the bedroom door only opened a smidgen.
10. A THRILL OF HOPE by Anne Markland
Unique story line.
The h is betrothed to someone else, but she meets a stranger at a dance and they both feel a connection within a day. I liked the H, he'd been hurt as a policemen. The h came from a fun and loving family.
This story would have been better as a longer novella. Lovemaking within marriage, heat level 1 out of 5.
11. A GIFT FOR AGATHA by Anna St. Claire
This one is about a lady Scourge and I enjoyed the twist. She becomes hateful and is very unhappy person. Her brother is deceased and shows her what life will be like if she continues her hateful ways.
Sweet journey to HEA, some romance with only kisses.
12. THE HEART IS NEVER SILENT by Aubrey Wynne
Delightful story!
The H/h were the perfect match and then add the sweet sister it made a very enjoyable read. The sister is deaf but doesn't hold her back. She had such an engaging personality that she pulled everyone in. The h was very protective of her sister and when someone threatens to put her in an asylum the h takes action.
This was a solid 5 star read but I wanted to know more. 1. Did the cousin cause more problems? 2. Did the Butler and housekeeper get together? 3. How did the sister get her HEA? The author didn't write an epilogue but had some notes to give a glimpse of the future. Even with this leaving me with a few questions, it was a great story. The character's had depth and the spirit of the grandma was precious.
Only kisses, HEA, great connection and enjoyable.
13. OH CHRISTMAS PAST by Charlotte Wren
Very emotional and really touched my heart. This doesn't have a romance or a love interesting in it, but is still so touching and filled with second chances.
I feel I read some of this in another story, but not sure.
14. TIDINGS OF COMFORT by Elizabeth Ellen Carter
Another twist to Scrooge. Scrooge isn't the one who comes to rescue the crippled child or provide food. It was a sweet twist that I enjoyed.
I feel some people reading this will feel it is anticlimactic in the H hunting for his parents. I didn't feel that way because I read the story on how Kit is reunited with his family in another book. But, in this one he hasn't found them and boom, he is reunited and you are not given the details.
This is a clean story and had such of feeling of the Christmas Spirit with a poor family who know who know it isn't about money.
15. A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE by Elizabeth Johns
Sweet tale of second chances. The H and h were in love but circumstances forced them to marry others. They're two sweet children making the season bright.
Even though very short, you got a feeling for the character's. Only kisses, romance from before they separated still held.
16. HER CHRISTMAS WHITE KNIGHT by Elizabeth Keysian
Endearing story of two people who are met years earlier and formed an attachment. They both have fallen on hard times and it is a goose who brings them together.
I wanted to know more about their early encounter. This is a sweet story that also includes an orphan boy who the H had an encounter with too.
The ending was sweet. Clean story with only kisses.
17. ALWAYS THE MISTLETOE by Emily E K Murdoch
At first I didn't care for the H because of his obsession with money and envious of the h's family. They've been friends since children, but he became a Minister and the h's family became titled and wealthy.
Then as an onion is peeled, we discover why the H is worried about money. Cute story, with little on Christmas except hanging Mistletoe, but still enjoyable. Only kisses. The ending was perfect.
18. A LIBERTINE'S CHRISTMAS MIRACLE by Emily Royal
Sad to joy this story will take you. I just wished we knew if the voices stopped for the neighbor.
I don’t care for The Lord’s name (1) and crude language (2-3 times) in a Christmas story. Putting that pet peeve aside, this is a wonderfully written story. It’s like getting two stories in one. Our H/h are expecting their second child in a month. They have a neighbor whom everyone thinks is mad. Their lives cross and makes for a heartfelt Christmas story.
There is lovemaking within marriage, they are so in love and the passion comes through. Heat level 2 out of 5.
19. PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE by Lynne Connolly
No ghosts to haunt our H/h. But an old love who has returned after the war and is disabled. These two have history when she was 16. He’s now back after 10 year absence to see if they still have feelings for each other.
His brother is a Duke and she is a housekeeper at his brothers castle. Things don’t go smoothly for them because he isn’t clear what his intentions are. Plus the minister wanted to marry the h.
Lovemaking outside marriage-heat level 1.5. I just didn’t feel that great of connection to them.
20. A YULETIDE YEARNING by Maeve Greyson
What a story - absolutely loved it! This does have 3 ghosts representing the past, present and future. Oh what a journey to get the H to realize the h was made for him.
Only kisses and I felt a connection to this couple. In this short novella the author wrote the characters with depth and you could feel how each felt. Wonderful story!
21. A STRANGE CHRISTMAS GAME by Whitney Blake
Interesting story but felt the character development would have been better in a full novel or longer novella. I thought the H's mother's reason for leaving his father needed more information.
There is a secret that is revealed that was a surprise. Some bedroom action, within marriage, heat level 1 out of 5. (ljb)
There are more than a score of lovely novellas whilst short they are each a complete story. Each is well written, of course I preferred some to others but in all the characters are well portrayed. I’ve delved into this lovely book whenever I’ve had a spare hour or two plus they’ve become my bedtime reading as I know I won’t be reading until silly o'clock My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Overall this was a wonderful collection of Christmas stories. Instead of writing down a review of each story, I wrote a short review of my four favorite. Of course, they were all good and I enjoyed reading them. These four just stayed with me.
I enjoyed the Haunted Scot by Hildie McQueen. I remember Niall and Bree from the Clan Ross series.
The Remembrance of Love by Meara Platt was great. As I have read all the other books, I was familiar with Innes and Hyacinth and was excited to read their stories. Of course, it is bittersweet that characters must age for their offspring to grow up.
A Christmas Miracle by Elizabeth Johns I think this story may be my favorite in the collection. I remember Isabella and Edmund from Knight and Day so it was wonderful to get her brother Alex's story. Such a sweet story with a great story.
Her Christmas White Knight by Elizabeth Keysian I believe this is the first book I have read by this author. It was a sweet and humorous story. I liked the characters and wished their had been an epilogue.
This is a nice collection of stories, something for everyone. I thought some of the stories were really good and I didn’t want them to end. Others were just ok and rambling. Altogether a perfect book to get you in the holiday mood I enjoyed it! Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

This is a great book with a great collection of tales with writing in the spirit of the holidays. I rate the book with 5 stars for integrity and penmanship.
An enjoyable holiday anthology of regency romances. As with any collection, there is variety of great short stories and some that are just average. To be fair, it is hard to write a great short story that does not feel rushed. Thankfully, there are many great examples in this collection. A pleasant way to pass a few moments, or a few hours, depending on whether you sit and savor or pick and choose. I have some favorite authors represented and had the pleasure of experiencing some new ones. I gladly recommend to others! I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own and freely given.

⭐⭐

Kathryn le Veque story: ‘Twas the Executioner Knight Before Christmas We find executioner knight Maxton of Loxbeare telling his three impressionable little girls the story of Christmas, but with his own spin of details. He has known nothing except battle and warfare for as long as he can remember and his girls love his stories and he definitely add some gory details to the telling. He’s visited during the night and shown what his daughters are turning into with all the gory stories their father has told them. He witness what they have become, but learns he still has time to impress upon his girls the true meaning of Christmas and curtail his stories for his impressionable little girls who believe every story he tells them. Quit an interesting spin of a knight supreme telling the story of baby Jesus. Violetta Rand’s story: How To Get an Earl for Christmas Lady Rose and her brother Timothy are thrown out of their home by their half -brother the Earl of Brentley. Not sure where their headed Rose heads to the cottage on the outskirts of Whitmore her mother left her. She soon learns she has a godmother she didn’t know of and the plans her mother put in place to protect her including a betrothal for her. Richard Grant, the Earl of Hamby is intrigued and attracted Rose and set out to win her hand in marriage. Meara Platt the Remembrance of Love Lord Innes Buchan, a son of the late Duke of Buchan his only loving relative. He spies a lonely girl standing in a snow storm outside his window and invites her into his warm and cozy home. Innes recognizes the name Miss Hyacinth Brayden he knew her as small child with big violet eyes. She’s brought him a box, a box from the past they shared. She’s come to find her friend and bring him back into their lives. His own family was jealous of his time with the Brayden’s. Innes has many fond memories serving as a cabin boy for her father a Captain in the Royal Navy and the times he spent at their home. I love how he escorts her home and receives a warm welcome, tears and hugs from her family, they’ve missed him it’s like a long lost son has returned home. He finds love and a family who truly wants him to be a part of their world. I have voluntarily read and reviewed these excellent collection of stories filled with adventure and romance as lives are changed with the true magic of Christmas.
This huge collection is packed with enough historical holiday cheer to see you through all twelve days! With twenty-one diverse stories, there's something here for everyone. As explained in the introduction, Dicken's A Christmas Carol inspired more than a few of the stories, and I was impressed with the creativity used by many of the authors to take the "spirit" trope and spin it to fit their narratives.
There are new romances here, second-chance romances, after-the-HEA family scenes, and more. Each by a different author, and averaging about 10,000 words each, they are easily read separately in just an hour or so. Like a plate of Christmas cookies, this book will keep you coming back for more until they're all gobbled up.
I was happy to find quite a few new authors, and there are several whose works I will be seeking out. I can't say I absolutely loved every story, but there wasn't even a single one I regret reading. As holiday anthologies go, this one should be at the top of everyone's wish list. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I loved this collection of 21 Holiday stories. They all were very well written and the characters centered around A Christmas Carol/Theme. Each story was fun and full of surprises There were too many stories to do separate reviews. I truly want to Thank Aubrey Wynne for recommending this awesome collection of stories. I truly loved this collection of stories.
O, Night Divine by a compendium of Dragonblade authors is a sampling of stories using a standard Christmas story as its inspiration. What is really is, is a gift from Dragonblade. In these short stories the reader is able to revisit well-loved characters, and families. It is the epilogue that we wish for and never get. Beside being clever and intelligent stories, the reader is able to discover updates and even children of favorite characters. There are too many to delve into reviewing each of them. Suffice it to say: thank you for the gift, Dragonblade. I recommend it for the holiday season.
I was invited to read a free ARC of O, Night Divine by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All opinions contained herein are solely my own.
Maxton of Loxbeare is one of the Executioner Knights, now a father of his own children and he is raising them on tales that are Christmas stories but Maxton embellishes to fit his own Executioner tales. At odds with his wife over the things he tells his young impressionable children Maxton gets a visit from someone very special to help him mend his ways. I have to say I loved this story. Of course I loved Maxton anyway and this Christmas tale was was wonderful reading! All of the stories are great! Definitely a must read Christmas stories!
A very enjoyable collection of stories! Some of my favorite authors were included as well as finding a few new authors to enjoy! Even though it's taken me some time to finish with my very busy schedule, the short stories fit perfectly in my limited time to read. I enjoy Christmas themed stories all year round so I would recommend this collection for anytime. I absolutely loved it!
This was another wonderful story. I would love to read more of the Bext Generation Sinclair Jewels as this was in the O Night Divine: A Holiday Collection of Spirited Christmas Tales. Story just wasn’t long enough for me 😊😊😊. 💜💜💜💜💜
Merged review:
Callan MacKenzie’s Yulebringer Story!
This was one of the only reasons I opened this book right now. It was a continuation of the Sinclair Jewels, by Caroline Lee. Loved the characters and storyline so much. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
There are 21 short stories (some longer, some shorter) from different historical romance authors. I only knew two- Emily Royal and Emily TK Murdoch, but they are all sweet, some are clean, some are dirty. And they are all Christmassy.
Great holiday read, but a long one! Youu can read few or all of them, choice is yours!
I received ARC from Netgalley and Dragonblade publishing.
A fairly even anthology of Christmas tales set in England and Scotland in eras ranging from the Medieval to Victorian. Many have a hint of the supernatural, some riffing of Dickens. It’s easy reading and an excellent way of discovering new authors as well.
O Night Divine, is a wonderful collection of holiday tales inspired by Dickens “A Christmas Carol” and other holiday classics. Many of the stories revisit characters from some of my favorite authors in this truly divine read!
