An easy to read compilation of stories from people who have experienced Near Death Experiences. It condenses the common threads thousands of people in NDE have experienced and shows how it all fits with the biblical view of afterlife.

I was captivated and moved by some of the accounts. My biggest takeaway was the centrality of love in the ultimate reality. I was arrested by this emerging question: “how much have you loved with your life?”, by the realization that every action we take has a ripple effect on those around us, on the world and, in the end, all that stands is only that which was done out of real, total love, Jesus’ love.

And my second takeaway was how important is every single sharing of the truth that is in Jesus with others (there were people who on the verge of death remembered all sorts of little details in the past, like a truth they’ve heard in Sunday school, or a Christmas writing on a card that made them call upon the name of Jesus).

Read Imagine Heaven for much more detail, but this is a nice summary and great for handing out at only $5 on Amazon.

I just sat & cried, reading stories about those who have seen the face of Jesus & described Heaven is just so healing. It made me think of my Dad, and bask in the ideas of beauty he must be experiencing.

My fav excerpts:

“I saw his face. The man in white. The light was him & within him and what the light conveyed was love.”

“The place I went when I had my near death experience was real. Real in a way that makes the life we are living seem like the dreamlike state.”

Not 100% sure how to classify this very concise book (70 pages). It is nonfiction and Mr. Burke provides well documented cases throughout this small book of individuals who have had near-death experiences throughout the world. He does a wonderful job in identifying common themes that all of these individuals have experienced or have had glimpses of in regards to our consciousnesses after our near physical death.

As a empath who also can do astral projections, I found many of these stories to be true based on my own experiences over the years. Science cannot truly explain this phenomenon that occurs throughout the world and in all cultures. However, many individuals who have experienced it and their healthcare providers have become believers. For additional stories, I believe that you need to read Mr. Burke's book, "Imagine Heaven." It provides comfort to those seeking it.

A shortened version of Burke's Imagine Heaven. Quick read.

John Burke has been my pastor since 1998, so I'd read or heard most of what's in this book prior to reading it. It's an excellent book to give to friends who are wrestling with life's big questions, like what does it all mean? What's the purpose of this life? Is this all there is?

Its slim size makes it unintimidating to pick up - it feels like it's just a few pages. If anyone reads it and wants to know more, they can read Imagine Heaven or search for Gateway Church Austin. There are lots of interviews relating to the afterlife on YouTube.

This is a very quick read about people who have gone through near death experiences and trying to understand what happens after death.

I enjoyed the book at first, as it seemed to be scientific in nature. Trying to find common threads between what different people had experienced.

Unfortunately in trying to link them the author jumps to spirituality and God as the answer too quickly. I know it’s a short book, and the purpose of it is to sell the authors book Imagine Heaven, but I would have enjoyed this little book more if the focus science.

That said, there are some fascinating stories of near death experiences. Some of them reminded me of Will Ferguson’s book The Shoe On The Roof.

Do you have a deep anxiety, fear, or curiosity of the existence of the afterlife? Read this book. It is a wave of fresh air, peace, and provides clarity of what’s really meaningful in this life. And it’s probably not what you think.

What's "Really" After Life? ... The life we've.we've dreamed of and Jesus Promised!

John Burke has pullled.together so many great NDE experiences that fit with what Jesus promised Heaven would be like except in much greater detail.

Very interesting with a lot of emotional stories. Really makes you think and wonder, whereas I previously would’ve simply said, “I don’t know what happens after life.”

Takeaways
- Ian’s story: “The moment I heard the words ‘see in a new light,’ something clicked. I remembered being given a Christmas card, which said, “Jesus is the light of the world,” and “God is light and there is no darkness in him.”...
- To me this means that every moment to share the gospel makes a difference. It’s hard for me to imagine ever thinking a Christmas card would have any effect so this is telling.
- When we think about Jesus as a meek, mild-mannered religious figure, stain-glasses into obscurity and mostly out of touch with our lives today, we have been deceived.
- ...the life review in the presence of God often has the most dramatic impact on the life of a person who has experienced an NDE. It clarifies what really matters to God, as he shows people that every action, large or small, affects others.
- Compare the finding of, “Near-death experiences generally notes that they were the ones who judged themselves,” versus Matthew 12:37 that reads, “For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

This little book was my first read about near death experiences in regards to faith. I don’t even know how this booklet found it’s way into my home. All I know is that I needed to read about the stories of individuals who had visited Heaven and then returned to tell their stories. These true accounts immensely encouraged me about the beauty of the eternal home God has prepared for those who believe. Although wanting everyone I love to experience Heaven, the booklet also created a sense of urgency to continue to tell others about God’s love for them and their need to know Jesus personally. A spiritual game changer for me in an evangelistic sense. 5 stars!

Pretty good book about NDE's. A really quick read. The reason i'm giving 3 stars is because it got too biblical for me. The author only references NDE's that support the bible it seems and ignores the other ones. For example, the author never mentions reincarnation which many NDE's reference. Also, at one point he says in heaven will be everybody who lived a good life and loved God with all their heart, implying anybody who didn't do either those 2 things will not be in heaven, also not compatible with most NDE's.

Misleading

Title of this book should be “After Life Experience & Christianity”. Author is emphatic about using after life experiences to justify the authenticity of Christianity. Most authors on this topic keep their religious bias separate to this interesting topic of the after life. Other religious text can also draw analogies to after life experiences, the Author is opening a huge can of worms with his strong bias to Christianity and the after life.

What is coming?

I enjoyed John Burkes book "Imagine Heaven". I also enjoyed this shortened version and encourage others to check out his other book for more details. There have been thousands of NDE documented and I think God is giving us a taste of what to expect for those who wait to see Christ. Another way for us to realize God's incredible love for us and his gracious promise of spending eternity with Him.

Wonderful overview of what people who have near death after life experiences have to say about it, after they return to their bodies. It’s an easy, interesting read. The basic experiences, from thousands of interviews, correlate well with each other, regardless of religious beliefs or national location. Apparently, this is sort of a summary of the author’s more in depth book, “Imagine Heaven.” I can hardly wait to read that one as well.

Fascinating accounts of near death experiences. It's a short and easy read. I listened to it on Spotify audiobooks.

If you like this book and want more, John Burke has an incredible 4 hour interview on the Shawn Ryan Show (podcast or youtube) where he goes into much more detail of the stories & talking with people about their death experiences.

Watching 5 minutes of the above podcast is like a trailer version of this book. Highly recommend it! You won't be able to turn it off.

Repetitive after reading "Imagine the God of Heaven"

I love jonh's books! But...my 97 year old and I had just finished reading, Imagine the God of Heaven so everything was really just a repeat of what we had just read. But still a very good book and i really enjoy his writing. I am a hospice caregiver and it has given me a whole new way to handle the death of my clients. It has given me great comfort! Thank you John!

This is a small booklet I was given that is a more condensed version of the book, Imagine Heaven. So much had to be left out but this would still make a nice little book to give away to others, especially to those who aren’t really readers.

2019. A lot of the quotes I had read before in other books. The author makes some leaps from stories of Near Death Experience to the accuracy of the bible.

I also recommend watching John Burke’s YouTube videos, particularly his interview with Shawn Ryan.

He interviews careerists who have a lot to lose—doctors, attorneys, etc. They want people to know about heaven and hell and how short our time is on earth.

A collection of stories from Burke’s more expansive book called ‘Imagine Heaven’, ‘What’s After Life?’ succinctly explores the experiences of those who have had near-death experiences. Offering just enough to whet the appetite for what’s to come, this book is an excellent, quick read that will stir your heart and turn you toward contemplating the One behind it all. If you’re curious but don’t want to commit to a full book, this is a good starting place.

It's a great easy to read shorter version of his longer book. A great introduction into a scientific perspective on the after-life.
