I will not budge. I will not buckle. I will not surrender. Bernadette recited that mantra to herself over and over again since the night she was abducted. She woke bound and gagged, staring into the face of a man whose past was linked with hers. A man... with a vendetta. That was seven days ago. Alone with him in a secluded cabin in the middle of nowhere, Bernadette notices with each passing day he softens to her a little more. That small change turns the game in her favor, and she’s ready to play. As the power shifts, will her captor sense her plans and tighten his hold? Or will Bernadette be the one to make him budge... buckle... and surrender?
You can take the girl out of Detroit, but you'll never take Detroit out of this girl.
For TK Cherry, it's pop, not soda, and Tim Hortons over everything else.
Born and raised in The Motor City, TK now enjoys little or no winters in the Carolinas. By day, she's a spreadsheet whiz and frequent flyer. By night, she lives for keeping her loyal readers on the edge of their seats with steamy tales of happily ever after.
4 stars!! In the beginning it was a bit slow but about 25% in it really picked up!! I loved all the twist and turns that this book has and it really kept you want to read more!! This is a new to me author and it won’t be my last book from her!! I’m excited to read more of her work!!
Wow ok so at first this book was a little bit hard to get into but I muddled on because something niggled at me. I never expected that twist holy jaysus that was genius! I only rated this a four star because at times the switch from Bernadette to Richard was a little hard to follow and I would have likes chapter headings in some way for that. Besides that this book was brilliant and when it for into say about 30% it really pulled back the book to me so give it a shot it's totally worth it, unpredictable and brilliant!
“Bernadette” is a hot, steamy and full of tension romance with an absolutely shocking twist! This was absolutely mind blowing! It keeps you hooked and connected to the story the whole time. It’s a novel of love, discovering yourself and letting go of the past. I absolutely loved Bee, she’s a QUEEN!!
The writing style is so easy and fun to read and the plot is so well done to the point where you have no chance of predicting what’s going to happen next. This is the perfect book to get you out of a reading slump since it really helped me. Highly recommend it to romance lovers, it’s fun, interesting and extremely hot!!
Note: The author sent me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review so my opinion is 100% real and not affected by that.
This is a story of how high school bullying can have lasting effects on a person over a decade later. I can’t say much without spoiling the story but it was definitely interesting. For most of the book I was sure I was going to give this book 3 stars but once I got to the twist, I had to up my rating. Not only did it make the things I was on the fence about more digestible, it also was a clever twist I didn’t see coming, and that rarely happens. I loved all the extended epilogues, it felt like a nice wrap up and that the story was complete.
While the bulk of the story is a little dark and twisted, if you stick it out, it is a satisfying story. Give this book a chance!
Oh my word! I loved this story I couldn't put it down desperate to know what happened next. It was a very emotional story that had me with mixed feelings. I felt sorry for Bernadette the way she felt so lonely as Jeff her husband working away from home so often annoyed me as if he didn't care for his family other than sending money instead of spending time with his wife & daughters. Then when she was kidnapped & tied up by Richard a guy from school who felt she had wronged him & needed punishing but she was strong & refused to give into him. Reffusing to eat & ignore him & the way Richard was treating her like she was responsible for all the bad things that happened to him at school by the in crowd of bullies as he was seen as a nerd & she was part of the in crowd but at times he worried that she was refusing food making herself ill was not part of his plan. When he talked about what he had been through at school at the hands of the bullies I did start to feel sorry for him & also realised that he deep down cared for her which saw her give herself to him even though she tried not to feel anything for him but when she did eventually escape what happened next shocked me as I never saw it coming in a million years. This story is one of the best I've read, I love TK Cherry's books.
This was a really good read. It was suspenseful, which is something I usually steer clear of. So it took me a while to get into it. But, then I got stuck in it (in a good way). And that mantra wouldn’t get out of my head!
Bernadette is such an incredibly strong and resilient woman. I think anyone could take a leaf out of her book. The power play between her and her captor kept me on the edge of my seat, not quite knowing where things were going to lead. It was both heart-breaking and heart-warming. There’s just so much going on, and so much to take in!
And whilst the Martin Luther King Jr. quote at the start of the book is a good one on its own, it really becomes quite poignant. The effects of bullying can be so long-lasting and infiltrate a person’s ‘everything’ to the detriment of everyone around them.
I will be recommending this one. I’m giving this book four and a half stars.
I received a free copy of this book from the author, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Once again, TK Cherry’s ability to write a spellbinding story shines through. I just finished Bernadette and I can’t get it out of my head. This thriller illustrates the willpower to endure the worst and that perseverance is the only way to make it to the end.
After a fun evening of drinking and twerking with friends, a loving mother and wife awakened bound and gagged. Her captor is a man from her past with his eyes fixed on vindication. There in the secluded cabin in the woods, Bernadette would pay the price for messing with the wrong nerd.
I enjoy a story that catches me off guard, straps me in, and takes me for a wild ride. Bernadette pushed my wig all the way back. TK brilliantly weaves childhood memories into the present to give the reader a first-hand account of the makings of a madman.
As always TK Cherry does not disappoint. She sets the stage very well letting you know all the details needed to be right there with Bernadette. This journey had me laughing, crying, scared and HOT! You will start to fall for her kidnapper yet root Bernadette on with her strength. Then it happens. The one twist you didn’t expect. Wow!
This book had an unexpected ending that floored me. Some things about the captivity didn't make sense until the end. The sister was mentioned after the first scene but she disappeared. There were too many friends to keep up with their names or how they moved the plot forward.
Skimmed through this because I didn't want to DNF. Bold execution for a different kind of story. If you like dark, taboo subjects this might be your bag. I found it disturbing, even after I peeked at the end to make sure what I hoped would happen did happen. This is billed as romantic suspense and it isn't. It's a thriller with dark erotic elements but there isn't a romance in this book, in my opinion. I respect the effort to bring something different to the table but this isn't anything that I enjoy.

"She took in the musky scent with notes of lemon and lavender combined with an otherworldly aura of a man who was both beautiful and scary at the same time."
Omg this book is perfect. I was loving this and “Richard” and Bernadette’s relationship. He had me in suspense in what all would he do to her and my heart truly broke for him back in high school. Kids are so cruel at that age and kids that think they are better than the others because of their status is worse. But this book was perfect and I couldn’t put it down! I could say so much more but I don’t want to give anything away, you need to read it, it will not disappoint!
I was fortunate to have received an ARC. I gobbled it up like popcorn. Bernadette, Jeff, and Richard are such relatable characters. I don't want to give the plot away, but TK masterfully weaves a story of the consequences that bullying can have years later. Bernadette and Jeff have been married for several years and now that marriage is on the rocks. One fateful night while Bernadette is out with her sister, she is kidnapped by an old classmate and kept in a cabin for 7 days. Can she survive? What does Richard want? Will she ever see her family again? If she can escape what lessons will she learn? Titillating, sexy, suspenseful, heartbreaking and heartwarming.
This is my second read of TK Cherry's work. My first read, "The Hottie in Finance" and TK's captivating writing blew me out of the water. Due my experience with The Hottie, I had no doubts that TK would be able to deliver again. Given the premise of this book, I wasn't sure how I would feel about the subject material even though I was enjoying the writing. Bernadette will throw you for a loop! Without giving away too much of the plot, what I'll say is both expect the unexpected and be appreciative of the unexpected. This story not only exceeded my expectations but with a powerful lesson: never be afraid to fight for love.
I LOVED this book! Bernadett's marriage was teetering on the brink. Her husband had moved out under the guise of "being closer to the job." With her girls away at camp, Bernadette reluctantly dresses for a night at the club with her sister. While leaving the club, she is grabbed from behind and wakes up bound to a chair and gagged... Five well deserved stars!!!
My first book by the talented TK Cherry and I can not believe I have only just read it. I didn't want the book to end. It had me in shock, in tears, lustfully reading and rereading scenes that blew me away.
Bernadette is by far the most intriguing dark romance read with a HEA that I have read! I can not recommend it enough! Its just ine of those books that you need an ebook and physical copy with extras just to share to anyone you me.
TK Cherry has an amazing ability to tell a story and make you feel exactly what is happening. When you first meet Bernadette, you get a great sense of who she is as a wife and mother and as you continue in the story, you find yourself feeling what she feels. Crying when she cries. And salivating when she does. The emotional rollercoaster that TK puts you on does not end! I have enjoyed every part in this book! And can not say enough how much love I have for it. Y'all need to read it!
Bernadette and Richard both struggle with their mutual high school past. Can they forgive and move forward or will the past destroy them? TK Cherry weaves so much emotion through the twists and unexpected turns of this novel that the unexpected can bring you to your knees. Definitely worth the read to get to the end. * There are potential abuse triggers so be mindful while reading.
I received an ARC of this book and am so thankful that I did. Another masterpiece written by T.K. Cherry. It had me in suspense and I could not wait to finish as I sped through the book to finish as quickly as I could. I felt like all the characters were really relatable but I especially felt l was able to identify with Bernadette and where she was coming from. Such a strongly written character. No spoilers here but you don’t want to miss out on this one.
This book was amazing! TK, as is her talent, had me hooked from page one with this one. The perfect balance of suspense and romance combined. Fantastic read! I loved it!
I was wondering what exactly was going on and what the kidnapper’s deal was for a good while. I didn’t understand his vendetta against Bernadette. I was really needing to understand what she’d done to make him harbor such ill feelings for her 10+ years after high school. I was really happy with the ending. It was a very pleasant twist! I had to think back on what I had previously read and reevaluate some of the scenes and interactions between Bernadette and Richard—her captor.
Ms. Cherry did a great job with minor details setting us up for the ending. Things that didn’t fit or felt odd suddenly made sense.
This was my first TK Cherry experience and I look forward to more!
This is a awesome book. It keeps you on the edge of your seat trying figure out the motive of both characters. Bernadette is a strong willed woman who lives for her family. The plot twist to this story I was not ready for and knocked me out my chair when I finally caught it. It is such a great and smooth read.
I liked how the author painted the heroine's loneliness and uneasiness in the beginning but couldn't really get into the Stolkhom syndrome and flashback parts until the big twist came. I think it would be more enjoyable to read a second time but I doubt I will. Overall, it's a good read.
This is not your average captive Stockholm syndrome story. It is so much more than the need to be free. I don’t want to give anything away, but trust me, it is worth every single minute of your reading time.
Well, these was ok. It was interesting in the beginning as you learned about each character. Towards the middle I lost interest with Bernadette & husband Jeff's role playing fantasies. 😒
This book was just terrible. You get to the end and realize her captor was her husband and it was kinky role play. I only kept reading be wise I was hoping it would get better, but it didn't. I skipped a lot of it. It was just too much sex and too vulgar. This was horrible. Just no, no, and no.
