Review: This was admittedly not as strong for me as other the Smut Peddler books I've read so far (Sex Machine, My Monster Boyfriend), but these are always so well put together with such lovely full color art and lots of diversity that it was still enjoyable and impossible to be upset about.
Unlike the others, these stories were mostly not sci-fi/fantasy, which I can't fault the book for, but I wanted to let fellow SFF fans know.
I loved the diversity in sexuality, gender (including lots of trans characters), pairings, and types of relationships (established relationship, budding romance, just sex). There were also some different different body types and POC characters. However, the one area of diversity where these books are lacking is disability.
The stories are where this somewhat fell flat for me. A lot of these didn't really have a story and were more just sex. Personally, I like there to still be a story with the sex. A couple of the stories just confused me. Some of the stories started out cute and then took a very sharp and sudden turn into, "Ok, let's fuck now," in a way I just couldn't connect with. But I still found many of the stories had a lot of cuteness I could appreciate.
The art, on the other hand, was fantastic! This may have been my favorite so far in terms of overall art. I loved the art style in most of these. And the great thing about these anthologies is that, even if I don't like some of the art, the fact that they're all in color still makes it a lovely visual feast.
That being said, for an anthology about older people, most of these characters looked pretty young. Some just looked like young people with gray hair. Granted, the anthology says it's people 40 and older, so maybe some were simply meant to be in their 40s. It doesn't take away from the enjoyment, but it would've been cool to see more characters who actually looked older, since that's something you almost never see.
My two standouts (for story and art) were "Romancing the Reverend" and "William Wilson and the Man on a Mission" by E.K. Weaver. The first was just super cute with an adorable couple I was really rooting for. The second was a casual encounter, but I loved how the sexiness was interspersed with the two characters meeting, discussing things beforehand, establishing the importance of consent, etc. in a really well done, perfectly matched-up way.
Also, the cover is really pretty and has some nice silver foil in the title for extra shine!
Overall another enjoyable graphic novel anthology from the Smut Peddler line!
I wasn't sure what to expect from my first Smut Peddler Presents experience, but I was quickly blown away by the sheer diversity of this collection! Five stars for prominent and purposeful inclusion. Not only do these comics focus on the oft-overlooked amorous lives of older folks, but they also represent a bevy of gender identities, sexual orientations, racial and ethnic identities, and body types. Elements of each comic are also varied, with differing illustration techniques, storytelling styles, and general depths and lengths.
Three stars for my own personal reading experience. Favorite stories included "The Chore" and "Romancing the Reverend."
This is basically a Smut Peddler collection, which means you get all sorts of sex. Men on men. Women on women. Women on Men. You get the idea. And this theme is older couples.
So, if you like sexy times with older people, this is where to go. Always lots of fun, if not good clean stories, then dirty good stories.
Collection of some truly great short stories. The first one I was impressed to see someone older getting busy and was so happy that happened. I read the next one and then thought how daft I was to not pick up on the "Silver" title. All in all it was a brilliant and a hot collection showcasing that age can't stop the lovely physical connections you can have with another, if one is so inclined.
Obviously this is aimed right at me but I was just extra impressed all around by how gay it was and how much solid representation was in it. It was extremely good. Like any of these anthologies there were some weak stories, at least for me, but it was a quite enjoyable time.
The latest in @ironcircuscomix’s always enjoyable series of erotic comic anthologies. This time, all about love and lust among older participants. I was amused to note that I’m older than some of the subjects - an amusing little blow to my mental self-image still being somewhere in my 20s, which I most definitely am not anymore!
As an asexual, I view erotica a little different than the usual none grey sexual erotica lovers.
I can’t find physical pleasure, or sensual delight; but, I do feel emotional high and low and a sense of poignant respite when I find an erotica catered just for me. And being me, is a hard enough segmentation to be labeled as niche.
With that being said, I enjoyed iron circle offerings; quite a lot in fact. We don’t get enough queer POC media, let alone erotic and sensual adult material for consumption.
Among their many releases under the smut peddler collection, sliver, so far, has been my favorite.
You get tired of school puppy love romance, the office granting tensioned romance, the long agonizing biting in thriller and fantasy that rarely end up fulfilled.
Here, we got intimate stories of older, matured, experienced and yes, naive folks in love stories that lasted through the decades, finally found after years of solitude, the heart crushing realization of being different and connected through the barriers of spirituality and community and the light hearted comedic sort of stories that makes you feel both giddy and excited.
To put it simply, it left me teary eyed. Tears of joy and respite.
Romance & erotica, have always been an escapist mediums, but through them, one can realize their self and potential and their much deserving right of being in love regardless of age, ethnicity and faith.
I highly recommended it for anyone seeking queer, POC erotic romance comic collection. It was a delight from start to end.
I don't read smut very often. When we see conventionally attractive people in media and unconventionally attractive people in reality, it's not hard to see that there's a stark contrast. I'm also an American who is simultaneously encouraged by corporations to eat cheap, bad food but be thin and attractive. The connection between the two is money. Books and movies are sold by those images. Eurocentric beauty standards are as marketable as the salt and sugar that create their perceived antithesis. Don't get me wrong, I think that food consumption and balanced diets are important to health, but excess makes the almighty coin. You're not necessarily in control of your genetics, your age, or your economic status that make bad eating habits affordable. Long story short, I'm surprised this is selling! It's not Fifty Shades sure, but there's an astounding amount of people on here who are into the inclusive smut featured in this collection.
As a writer though, I felt a bit let down. There were stories that balanced the conflict with the porn and those ended up being the ones that I liked the most. Others were simply an elevator ride ascending to a strap fuck in a hotel. The smut I like the most have buildup to a (hopefully mutual) climax, and I was happy to say that the bodies and sexualities featured here were proudly touted. But a lot of them felt like they were missing the bitterness of loss that make love and sex more satisfying the times after. If it balanced the conflict with the positivity, I would've liked Silver more.
Yes, this an adult only comic. Let's start there. I picked this up because the cover is gorgeous and I have never seen a smut book focused on older people before.
The collection is full of short and sweet - it's very graphic, so don't read it in front of other people. The stories inside vary in length and style, but the overall feeling of them was wonderful. It was shelved on the queer shelf of my local comic book store so I knew to expect something nice inside, but I was positively surprised to see overwhelming majority of the stories explored some kind of queer relationship, and especially impressed about the sheer amount of positive trans representation! The only warning I'd give besides the obvious graphic sex scenes is that one story does touch on the subjects of queerness and religion and feelings of self hatred due to said religion.
Well, I can officially say this is the first smut book I have gone around recommending to my irl friends, so I was obviously highly impressed by the collection as whole.
Smut Peddler remains undefeated for go-to great erotic comics of quality storytelling and beautiful diversity of perspectives. This anthology, in particular, featured older (over 40) characters, which reading it on my 39th birthday seemed perhaps a little pointed.
My favorite stories:
"Romancing the Reverand" by Kinomatike and Saint Circus "The Chore" by T. Zysk "A Pinch of Rosemary" by Lyndsay McSeveney "Mandatory Overtime" by Nero O'Reilly "Behold Her" by Harriet Moulton "William Wilson and the Man on a Mission" by E.K. Weaver "Wet Dog" by Hien Pham
I do wish that these stories featured more explicitly disabled characters. But otherwise, I found myself so happy with the mix of body types, sexualities, and genders and greatly delighted in the many trans characters. Iron Circus remains one of the best and most interesting comic book press out there.
I know that this anthology can be pretty much summarized as "porn with older people", but still, it's quite decent piece of porn comic. Stories vary in lenght and weight: some of them are kinda dream-like, other feels like a comedy; some of them have rather thin excuse for sex, othar tackle more serious issues (dedication and religion included), but almost always sex is celebrated as something great, what brings joy and happiness (yay!). There are hot women in suits, awkward taxidermists, skillfull healers and cooks, sassy witches, silly martial arts/magic masters... Should be easy to find something just for you. Also, anthology is (to my little surprise) very queer, so if you don't like it... probably look for smut somewhere else.
Bought this book digitally at first, but loved it so much I had to get my hands on a physical copy too!
The book is gorgeous. It's an amazing collaboration of so many great artists, and I just love how there is SO much inclusion in this book of older characters, as well as amazing diversity and LGBT+ content. It's a rare treat to read about characters older than 30 in webcomics, so this book is super welcome!
Also minor detail, but I love how the title "Silver" actually has some shiny silver foil on it. I just love those finishing touches on book covers that make them look extra special.
First of all the art is so good. Second of all gray haired folk can be so sexy. Sorry not sorry !! My libby hold was 1 1/2 years but was worth the wait. The art is so good. One didn't work for me but it was still pretty. I love the diversity in body types, story genre, race, sexualities and gender identities. It's erotica but it made emotional. If you're in the mood for steamy and sensual art this is a must.
My favorites. Romancing the Reverend by Kinomatica and Saint Circus The Chore by T. Zysk A Pinch of Rosemary Mandatory Overtime by Nero O'Reilly Behold Her by Harriet Moulton & William Wilson and The Man on a Mission E.K Weaver
This is really more a 3.5. Strong collection as always from this imprint. Art varies a bit more than I expected in, I don't want to say quality, but in what I personally find appealing. As always, appreciate the queerness, but a lot of these stories almost do feel like they have similar dynamics in a way I didn't expect. My favorite story came early, unfortunately, so there were sort of diminishing returns for me as this went on. I suppose I could help mitigate that by not reading the whole thing all in one sitting.
The authors have a delicate balance to strike. The plot-what-plot? trope works well in fanfiction because the characters are so well established that it’s easy to get to the hot steamy sex. This anthology needs to establish character so they can get down to business. I think this is mostly done well. As someone who is on the wrong side of 40 I really enjoyed the protagonists finding love later in life.
It's rare that I read an anthology of any kind and don't wind up skipping one or two stories, but I didn't skip any of these! Absolute faves were Romancing the Reverend, The Chore, Fi Yidina, Behold Her, William Wilson and the Man on a Mission. and Wet Dog. Rivals wins for the one that made me laugh the most.
I liked this! I backed the kickstarter based on two previews - The Chore and Rivals and they turned out to be my favourites in the anthology but second place goes to Wet Dog and A Pinch of Rosemary, which I had no idea about before I started reading and they really charmed me.
Lots of great art and charming characters in this anthology and lots of interesting combos of looks and bodies.
I backed the kickstarter for this, and it was worth the wait. Great art, lots of different combinations of people and genders, and lots of very hot sex. I really enjoyed this.
