Ruth travels to Texas to become a mail-order bride and to care for an orphaned baby. She finds the child living in squalor. Worse, her fiancé is a rogue and probably a thief. With nothing more than her wits, she must fend for herself and the baby.
Her only hope lies with Gideon, a gruff but charming cowboy. The tall, gallant Texan offers Ruth safety, a haven for her and the baby.
Gideon set out to find his stolen money. Instead he finds a mail order bride, two ragged orphans and a basket of striped kittens. Gideon’s looking for a thief. The crook’s missing, but Gideon meets his fiancée, a lovely blue-eyed beauty. Ruth’s sassy and plenty exasperating. She cares for a tiny baby, and the two stir a protective instinct inside him. Before he knows it, he’s got more trouble than he can shake a stick at.
Ruth says she knows nothing about the stolen money. But is the girl as innocent as she claims?
This whole story was a vibe. I loved Ruth. Well, I loved most of the characters except for Jasper Cane. Some of the story was heart wrenching. Bucky and Eliza just melted my heart. I wanted to beat Sallie Mae with her own hairbrush! She reminds me of my student loans, lol! I loved Gideon's heart. Gideon's dad was rough around the edges but in the end, I ended up liking him. I like Dearing's writing style. I now want to read more of her writings.
Heart-warming story, a young woman who is willing to care and love an unwanted child Ruth has been falsely accused of giving one of her beloved charges a sleeping draft and when she had discovered the incident and rescued her beloved charge she had been discharged without any references. Hounded by the police she had decided that the best thing she could do was travel to Texas as a Mail Order Bride for a baby girl that needed to be cared for, loved and kept safe and healthy and hopefully happy. Her only hope lies with Gideon, a gruff but charming cowboy. The tall, gallant Texan offers Ruth safety, a haven for her and the baby. Jasper the child’s father is a dirty, ill-tempered cowboy that obviously has no interest in the child and is in fact not her father and actually had only taken Eliza so that if gave him a free cabin and some additional perks as the cowboy. Gideon is the son of the ranch owner and Ruth is surprised at his kindness both to her and the baby, he disliked Jasper and when some money was stolen from the ranch safe is certain that he is the culprit, all he has to do is prove it. As Ruth cares for the baby she sees the improvement she is starting to smile and recognise both Ruth and Gideon, his family is close and she appreciates the importance of this after she grew up as an orphan. This story is filled with action and plenty of surprises, it is filled with action and wonderful descriptions which once you begin reading you realise that you simply can’t put this book down. There are also plenty of moments that will cause you to laugh out loud, picturing every moment with clarity. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
An orphan girl has been traoned tp work as a nursemaid by the nuns who ran the orphanage. She enjoys her work, loves the children, but the man who runs the agency/facility where she works carries on loudly and foully when he decides go sack someone, which he does regularly. Ruth has a good, solid work ethic as well as her love for the babies for whom.she cares. One mornong, she comes in to hear the boss sacking s0me9ne, and nort too much later, finds a note telling her she will be sacked next. It makes her a little nervous to know someone wants to hurt her, but she os vigilant and sees no way. But there is a way; she is framed for harming a baby, andndismissed pending an investigation. She returns to the convent, and they talk about her circumstances, and the nuns believe she has her best chance if she goes out west as a mail order bride. They mention a single father with a newborn, one who wants a marriage of convenience, and send her out. She comes to a situation, and a man, that are far less than ideal. She hears things that seem one way when they're another (something you think would halt any rush to judgment on her part), and gets confused. The peeson who helps her the most is the eldest son of the ranch owner for whom her would-be spouse works. One thing follows another, and in the end, it gets sorted out, but not wothout a bit of finagling and an addition to their familu before they're officially married...but who marries whom?
☄️☄️ONE TITILLATING DELIGHT☄️☄️ Delightful! Remarkable job Charlotte, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
Ruth comes to Copper Creek as a mail order bride to a scoundrel named Jasper. It was to be a marriage of convenience as he mostly just wanted a mother for his infant daughter.
Gideon is one of the Barstow sons and Jasper is in their employ. A large amount of money is missing. During all this, Gideon notices Ruth and is immediately intrigued by her. And the same for her.
I realized early on that I should have read this book before Rebecca's and Adam's story. I wish the books were numbered.
**Spoiler alert** The reason for four stars instead of five is twofold. One - why in heavens name was Ruth so concerned about Jasper and his health and well being? He treated her horribly and messed around with harlots. I just couldn't understand it. She secretly admired Gideon, but went out of her way to care for the jerk named Jasper. It made no sense. Also, the marriage of Ruth and Gideon...one minute she doesn't want to see him and within no time at all, they are married by a judge. Huh? How did that happen? And what about the missing money? Why didn't that topic come up when he found her?
I found the overall story fairly interesting and the couple fairly charming, but it was like entire chapters of the book were missing. For instance, the couple were getting to know each in a realistic and cute way. But then the next chapter there's suddenly undying love and the desire for marriage way too soon.
Probably the biggest instance of this was when
There are also problems of Ruth living with another man for days and seemingly no one in town having a problem with this. And how exactly did Jasper manage to keep Eliza alive considering his total ineptitude? How long had he had her? There are hints Ruth agreed only to care for Eliza in her marriage (i.e., no real marriage), but that is skipped over. Was it to be a marriage of convenience or not?
Ruth had to leave. She read many letters from men looking for a bride and she chose Jasper's letter because he had a child that needed a mother. When she arrived at his home she found out that it was filthy and he wasn't even taking care of the child. I'm fact, he was injured. He had one of his toes shot off. Over the next few days while she was taking care of Eliza she found out that he was a list and a thief. She was wondering what she had gotten herself into. Gideon, whose father owned the ranch came to speak to Jasper and find the money that he stole. Only, Jasper wasn't home and when he did come home h e was so drunk that Gideon couldn't talk to him. Gideon slept in the couch that night because he didn't want Jasper to escape with his money before he could speak to him. He also found out that Ruth and Harper were not yet married. I am not going to tell you any more because I don't want to spoil the story for you. This is a very good book that I think you will enjoy.
Another delightful mail order bride story by the talented Ms. Dearing. A heartwarming story that grabbed my attention right from the start and had my interest right till the end. Ruth is suddenly dismissed from her job when she is falsely accused of giving a sleeping draft to a child and decides to make a new life for herself as a mail order bride. She will be going to care for an infant child. While she isn't impressed at all by little Eliza's father, Gideon, a kind-hearted cowboy, comes to her rescue and offers her and Eliza protection and a place to stay. I really enjoyed this story. It was interesting and well-written and the storyline flowed smoothly. The characters were wonderful and well-developed and I became invested in their HEA. If you like mail order bride stories, be sure to give this one a try!

I really enjoyed this book. Ruth is a nursemaid. When she is suddenly dismissed from her job she has no other choice than to become a mail order bride. Her one consolation is in the letter she receives it mentions an infant that needs a momma. She can’t turn down any child in need especially an orphan as she was. When she arrives and meets a drunken, filthy uncouth man named Jasper she is ready to leave until she hears a cry! Once she sees little Eliza she knows she can’t abandon this beautiful baby. Gideons father is trying to force him to marry a neighboring wealthy ranchers daughter. Once he sets his eyes on Ruth and Eliza he knows what he want! This is a story about romance as well as good and evil, greed and honesty. I highly recommend this book!

Ruth was suddenly dismissed from her job when she is falsely accused of administering a sleeping draft to a child. With no other alternatives, she decides to become a mail order bride when an infant who needs a mother is mentioned.
When Ruth arrives at her destination, she discovers that her fiancé is a drunken, filthy man named Jasper. But baby Eliza needs her. Her only hope is Gideon, a kind cowboy who offers Ruth safety and a place to stay for her and the baby. Ruth and the baby bring his protective instincts out and he doesn’t want to lose her. Will he seek a future with Ruth? Are they ready to bring their little family together?
This is a sweet story with good characters and a well-paced story line. There are other bumps along the way for them, but are they willing to try for a HEA?
Ruth Summers wanted nothing more than to care for babies. Orphaned herself, she took special pride in her work as a nursemaid, caring for a baby boy as tenderly as she would her own child. Jealousy among the other nurse aids soon causes one of them to set poor Ruth up, and she is forced to leave the baby she adores, as well as her best friend Lizzy. Trying to avoid being arrested, she replies to a letter from a man in Texas requesting a mail order bride to care for his baby girl. Nothing seems to be right in Ruth's world until she meets Gideon Barstow, the son of the owner of the ranch where her future husband works. What happens after that? You'll just have to read the book to find out!
I had high hopes for this book and it lived up to my expectations. I thought Ruth was a little too timid in the beginning. I thought she was going to be a pushover. She surprised me after arriving in Texas. She realized very quickly that she was going to have to put her foot down concerning Jasper. In the meantime, I came to realize that Gideon was indeed a pushover. He had the best of intentions always, but he could have been a bit more stern in the situations he considered most important. All in all, everything worked out and the HEA was well written.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is a sweet, clean romance. This is not the genre that I usually enjoy, but this book surprised me. The characters all have their own little backstories. Seeing the way the author weaves these characters together is a fun journey. You sympathize with Ruth and her yearning for a family. Gideon is definitely a character you will root for and hope he is able to make right the wrongs done to his family. The pace of the book is steady and what I would classify as a page-turner. Taking a trip into this world with the author is fun with characters you will remember.
Ruth must quickly leave her employment back east under shadowy, but unfair circumstances. She accepts a mail order bride offer in order to care for an orphaned infant girl, while not knowing anything about the husband. Gideon is a cowboy who sees that Ruth's situation with her unscrupulous, intended husband is dire. Before a sad marriage takes place, he steps in to make sure that Ruth and the baby are cared for properly. Will love bloom? This book's pacing will likely elicit a range of emotions from the reader, including laughter, tension, relief, and contentment. Be prepared to stay up late because you won't want to stop reading this book until the last page.
...yet this I’d first book of hers I’ve read. I’m sure she has a loyal following. I wish to respect those readers as I write this review.
The author writes beautiful descriptions of nature’s settings, sunsets, flowers, water. She is funny and true to the era she writes about.
I found the main character to be inconsistent. I also found her loyalty misplaced. It would have made more sense for her to be determined not to take advantage of Gideon Barstow, than to feel loyal to “the scoundrel” just because...
A unique and interesting mail-order bride story. What a unique and interesting mail-order bride piece. This one is such a tangled web of characters I am impressed in how the author brought it all together. It first starts off with Bucky, then moves Ruth, and now Gideon. The piece also starts off with a mystery and it is not the only one. The ending was splendid. I enjoyed the story but it is not a quick read and it will hard not to become really engaged with all the characters. I highly recommend the book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is a sweet mail order bride story. There is not a single indication towards +18 scenes in this story. This is quite a good historical western Cowboy story. It has a good and solid storyline and fine characters, leading characters and scoundrels alike. If you like to read sweet and innocent stories this one might be for you. I at least enjoyed very much reading it and am happy to give it fine four stars.

This sweet and clean mail-order bride historical western with lovely cover is made for those who love this popular theme. Ruth seems to find trouble through no fault of her own, coming to take care of a newborn upon arrival at her destination. Her intended is corrupt and injured, thus she meets Gideon, the ranch owner's promised son, despite his denying it to a wealthy belle in town. Many ups and downs but it takes many go-arounds before Ruth and Gideon finds themselves on the same page. Just the right length for a good bedtime story and enjoyable read.
Ruth is a nursemaid who finds herself becoming a mail order bride and making her way to Texas to marry a man who needs a mother for his little girl Eliza. Gideon isn't in the mindset to marry or have children he wants to get a depot set up but when he crosses paths with Ruth on the family farm he finds himself wanting to protect her and baby Eliza. Gideon and Ruth's story can be a stand alone and is the perfect start to the Copper Creek Mail Order Brides book set. If you want a sweet, romantic mail order bride story this is it!
Ruth worked in the nursery for a wealthy family when someone made it appear that she tried to hurt the baby. So she decided to become a mail order bride. Gideon couldn’t understand his attraction his hands mail order bride. The interesting and exciting journey that led Ruth and Gideon and their little instant family together was sweet and left me wanting more from the little town. Good read.

This was a cute story. Ruth is a loving women and has a large heart for children. To get a little girl of her own is enough reason for her to become a mail order bride. Gideon doesn’t see himself settling down any time soon. He has plans and big ones. But then he meets a girl and a baby. As the story goes it is love. Add in a brother for the baby girl and this family is ready made. With a Pops to boot
If you like Christian historical romance, you will like Mail Order Ruth. Ruth Summers travels to Copper Creek to become a mail order bride and a mother to a baby girl. When she arrives, she finds her husband-to-be, Jasper Cane, is quite a challenge. Luckily rancher, Gideon Barstow, keeps an eye on things. I enjoyed reading this story and seeing how Ruth's faith got her through some tough times. I'm glad she finally got her HEA.
I wanted to like this book. But overall, it was just ok. Something about the flow was just off. The feelings/responses of the characters were not developed to be believable. Its like the author had a step by step process to get to her end result and did so without any creativity whatsoever. I finished it just because a book has to be horrible for me not to, but I wouldn't read anything else by this author.
Ruth took an offer to be a mail order bride and a mother to a little girl. She found her intended husband to be a scoundrel. Gideon was the owner of the house they were staying in. They got over a couple of problems and became a family.

A well written story that kept me turning pages. I enjoyed reading Gideon Barstow, and Ruth Summers' story, they will both have a lot to get through before they get there happy ending. There will be two children that will need help. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a very heart warming mail order Bride book. Ruth is selfless and wiling to take care of orphans even when her fiancé is a thief and crook. But what and how is she going to take care of herself much less kids? Maybe Gideon, a cute cowboy can help.. very cute and a great story.

Mail Order Ruth is a delightful historical romance book written by Charlotte Dearing. In this book we meet Ruth and Gideon. Ruth, a nanny in a wealthy household, is falsely accused of harming her charge. Realizing that her social status is a detriment, she flees west as a mail order bride. Ruth is innocent and vulnerable. Acting in good faith she agrees to be a mail-order bride to Jasper Cane. He, however, has no scruples. He just wanted a woman to keep his house and warm his bed. He buys a baby to get himself a cabin on the ranch that he works at. His intention is that Ruth can raise the child. She accepts that role and not that of his wife. Gideon, the son of Benedict Bartstow, has dreams of owning a train depot. He battles his father who is set in his ways and does not want to modernize. Destiny brings Jasper, Gideon, and Ruth together and Gideon soon finds himself enamored by Ruth. He feels protective and possessive of her. Will Gideon and Ruth find happiness? What happens with Jasper? Will Gideon’s dream come true? To discover these answers, you must read this book. I enjoyed this heartwarming historical romance story. Ms. Dearing does a swell job in creating her characters. In her characters, readers recognize that they capture an array of human characteristics like greed, evil, good and honesty. Jasper is dishonest, lazy, and greedy. So, is Cornelius Moore, who partnered with Mr. Barstow on the cattle drive. Ruth and Gideon are honest, kind and caring. Ms. Dearing uses dialog and descriptive language to bring these characters alive and make them multi-dimensional.
