It's been a long time since I've read such an amazing story. The author breathed life into her characters with her unique writing style. I love her simple, yet elegant scenery descriptions. I'm not a fan of flowery writing, and I love how Ms. Ashley described everything well enough for me to envision, yet not overly paint a boring scene. She also did a phenomenal job of keeping my attention from beginning to end. Usually when an adult writes a YA book, it's hard for the reader to connect with the main character. I didn't have that problem with this story. I recommend this read to all fans of YA fantasy

Good story with interesting twists and turns.
I came into this story not knowing what to expect, at all, but as I read I found myself pleased with the discovery.
Happy ending with potential for another journey in the future.

Lovely book! I decided to take a 99-cent gander on this story and was not disappointed. It’s well-written and action-packed, and gives a lovely take on a modern magical world and how two teens accept and use their powers. For such a small price, it was well worth the read. Take a chance in this one!

I usually pick up a new book with some trepidation. I'm not sure that I'll read it to the very end and that's exactly how I began reading this book, not with much heart but the narrative captured my attention. The sequence of events is so powerful that it keeps you asking for more. A wonderful read, to sum it up.

Enjoyable Quick Read

This was enjoyable quick read. I liked the character and the plot, I just wish the story was longer, felt like things progressed a bit too quickly.

Sixteen-year-old Morgan and her father have finally settled down for good in a new town. Morgan is used to being the new girl, but something is different about this time. Her father seems to have many connections, most notably to the good-looking boy next door and his grandmother, and people seem oddly familiar to Morgan. A serious and studious girl, Morgan tests the dating waters with the boy next door and his best friend. Her perceptions about school and social life and ultimately about good and evil are entertaining and this is a fun, quick read and T. Ashley is a fun and lively author to follow on TikTok and all the social! It's how I found her!

I really wanted to woop Nora's butt before the books end for many reasons. I enjoyed the story and characters, but Gran was my favorite cause she did not play. Patiently waiting for book 2. Great job T. Ashley

Great book!

I really liked this book. It was short, but I liked the characters. The storyline was very believable, even though it was paranormal. There were quite a few grammatical errors, so it could use some proofreading, but all in all I really enjoyed the story and loved Morgan and Casper’s bond.

You can tell that the author put a lot of thought into the magical structure in this universe. The characters are fleshed out and you really care about what happens to them.

Spoilers

I feel like this book has potential; but it missed the mark a little for me. Morgan is a witch whom has been on the run which is unaware to her. She’s a teenage girl with great power and her father keeps them moving to protect her. When she finds herself in the middle of it anyway. Her family has darkness and wants to use her for their gains; whereas Casper, Gram and Donna wanna protect her and teach her and use her for good.
My biggest issue was character development and story development. I felt like the story and the characters needed to be built more.

I really enjoyed this book! I almost missed out on this during the All Black Book Affair because the synopsis was so vague, but I’m glad I took a chance on it! The synopsis is vague for a reason. The book starts out feeling like more of a teen contemporary with little mysterious hints of fantasy here and there, but about halfway through the book we begin to dive deep into the fantasy and what’s really going on in the story. And when we find out the core of what’s going on, it does not disappoint. The writing flowed well and the story kept me interested throughout the whole book. I sped through it!

My only complaint about the book is that I wish I liked the male main character, Casper more. I just couldn’t connect with him, he annoyed me a lot.

This is a great book for a young adult audience, and I enjoyed it as an adult as well! I will be picking up the sequel!

This was a good young adult paranormal/action read. You get a little teen angst with an underlining current of darkness. The feel of impending doom and darkness intensifies when Morgan and Casper meet sharing their first kiss. Setting in motion a battle of light against dark. The story was moderately paced with a clear plot. As those who are "different" is revealed evil is revealed. The structure and formatting are well done. I think the author did a good job of setting up for a new series. While this was not for me, I would not hesitate to recommend this to a teen.

I loved the premise of the story, and wasn't quite sure what I was in for. But, what a journey! Wow! Malcolm seemed a bit shifty, but it was all out of love for his daughter. I loved the connection between Morgan and Casper. I had a sense that something was up with Miss Porter, but did not expect the bombs that were dropped! The mystery of who was really good, and had what abilities had me spinning for a while; but it was so enjoyable. Ready to jump right into book 2, and find out how this all unfolds. 👍👍👍

This black YA fantasy has a great plot of a girl learning she has these magical abilities, unknown family, hidden secrets, young love, and action. However, I think execution is not that great. There is a lot of jumping around without great explanations, I felt no connections to and between the characters, and the action moved and was resolved way too quickly. It was a quick read and I was entertained though. On to reading the second book.

I really enjoyed this book. I always go in blind and never look at blurbs so was not expecting the storyline. I wasn't disappointed though, it kept me turning the pages and I read it in one sitting. I liked the characters and am glad that there is a second book! T. Ashley is a new to me author and I found her over on #booktok. It's my favourite place to find indie authors 🙂

Meet 16 year old Morgan Alexander. Morgan and her dad have moved around frequently for as long as she can remember. Just when it seems that they’re finally settling down in one place, Morgan’s world is upended when the boy next door reveals some secrets that shine a light on Morgan’s past…and future.

This book features a number of genres, all artfully woven together into a story I read in one sitting. If you like young adult paranormals with a thrilling twist, you’ve come to the right place!
