Ricochet

Rate this book
I don’t look like your average killer
My tight dress, bright lips, high heels, and wild hair
Are all designed to distract you.
Because while you're dreaming about what this dress looks like on your bedroom floor,
I’m planning the best ways to dispose of your body.
With dirt on my hands and blood on my shoes,
I do my job without a single ounce of regret.
You can judge me all you want,
But back before the penthouse and the designer shoes
I was just another forgotten girl on the streets, running from demons.
I went from unprotected to untouchable, from angel to monster;
The forgotten girl who came from nothing became the woman who built an empire.
This city is mine, I dare you to try and take it from me.
Just be prepared to lose, because I will ruin you.
And my twisted little black heart will revel in your downfall.

Ricochet is a M/F/M romance. It deals with subjects that some readers might find upsetting such as sexual abuse and violence.
Due to the graphic nature of the sexy fun times and my leading lady’s trigger finger, this book is only suitable for people over the age of 18.

Still with me? Well, buckle up, buttercup, leave your morals and your panties at the door and hold on tight. This ride is about to get bumpy.

"I have zero problem invoking my fury on those I deem deserve it. Does that mean I’m playing god? Perhaps, but someone has to. Where the fuck was my god when I prayed on my knees with blood slicked thighs?"

No words 💔 if i ever have a dream of an alternate universe then Viddy is my alter ego.

“I might not have grown up to be the woman I thought I would, but that’s okay. Plans change, people do too. If you get burned by fire, forge yourself into someone new, someone stronger.”
This book is the best. What a badass woman mixed with dark!
The characters are amazing.
It’s worth the reading.

the heroine was raped from young age, she killed her rapist when she was 14 and burned his house along the way (made the public think it was the fire that killed him).

’A fourteen-year-old walks into a funeral wearing a cocktail dress and a fake smile. It sounds like a bad joke, but this joke is my life’

she lived in the street for a year and one day saved a deaf girl from her rapist (stabbed him). they ran, but oh no they left the girl she saved’s bag on the murder scene. so they came back, and there appeared the hero, who has the girl’s bag. apparently the rapist the heroine stabbed was involved in some gang / mafia business or something and the ‘supply’ the dead guy has was missing, and the H was looking for em. and they’re attracted to each other yada yada yada - H (20s) and the h (15), - the H brought her to his boss (Zodiac’s his name), the boss forced her to work for him, doing her dirty work. fast forward 6 years later (the H and the h haven’t met all those time), the heroine getting ready for her ‘initiation’ to the gang or whatever. the moment the H and the h met, they wanted to have sex, and i’m just like why? they have only spend time together for like an hour their whole life and he decided she’s it for him. aaand i stopped there

interesting concept but things felt unrealistic, ridiculous and went way too smoothly most of the times. i didn’t like the gang / initiation plot. the romance was way way way too insta & doesn’t make any sense, which was the final straw for me. i’ve nothing bad to say about this book, coz maybe i haven’t read that far. but it was overall just too damn extra

will say this tho, i was interested a hell of a lot more in Wyatt (was hoping he was the love interest) than the main hero

I grip his hand and lead him back to the shack in silence until we reach the door, then I look up at him as he towers over me. “If you hurt her, I will gut you like a fish,” I warn him, expecting him to bristle at my words.
Instead, he does something that shocks the shit out of me. He smiles widely, revealing matching dimples, before ruffling my hair like I’m five.
“Good girl.” He winks before disappearing inside, leaving me standing there with my mouth open.

“I could kill them all for you,” he offers, making me snort.
Once upon a time, Wyatt had a wife and a kid. But they were brutally killed during a gang initiation. Instead of lying down and dying with them, Wyatt tracked down their killers and wiped them out.
The. Entire. Gang.
This situation with me having to be inducted is his worst nightmare playing all over again.
“And spoil my fun? Hush, now. I have a plan, but it will take time. For now, I have to go and play the part. Just promise me, whatever happens, you’ll keep Megan safe. And if something happens to me—”
He cuts me off by gripping my face in his hands. “Nothing will happen to you, Viddy, or I’ll paint that city

All my friends gave this story 5 stars.
I wasn't very impressed, I found the plot a little loose, all over the place.
Besides, the twist didn't work for me.
One thing is for sure, the h character development was top-notch!

Weirdly, I was waiting for some hotass pisces to show up anytime soon.

spoilers ahead

I would say the protagonist V was 100% captivating. She was strong, sexy, ruthless, ambitious, things that I really love and admire in a female character. TBH, she just flawlessly captivated me from the very beginning.

But contrast to that, I found out, I was just unable to understand this magnetical attraction she had with this Reed guy and that to the point where she gives him numerous chances.

“His loyalty to him has always been unwavering, despite how he might feel about me."

The funny thing is I did not know who the hero was until the half end, where I found out about; Kai and Jude being the Reed twins and how they keep it a secret but work it to their advantage. And as the author has already warned us about MFM, It wasn't hard to put two and two together.

Generally speaking I wear my heart on my sleeves while reading a book. Whether it be riding on annoyance, frustration or big hearts on my eyes while coming in terms with a plot or just plain girl crush.
This book, however gave me none of that except ...of course, left me feeling empty.

let me just give you a small potion from the book, in summary of course.

For instance ; V the heroine = forgot her name. So, V here talks about how handsome Will and Leo, the other men in the book are.

( she is talking about Leo the first time she meets him )

“Now seeing the messy blood-free hair, silvery-blue eyes, and slightly wonky smile, I can appreciate that this guy is seriously good looking.

And then proceeds to kiss both of them once or twice.

( Will and V after kissing )

“You come alive like that for everyone? Jesus fuck, babe, it’s like you caught fire underneath my fingertips.

“I don’t have much to compare it to,” I answer”

So half of the story goes on and on;
about how her bad childhood, living a famished life in the fringes of society, her encounters, people she ends up saving, being stuck in the gang yet leading the crown of Gemini.

Yep, names are kept from the horoscope in the gang. Like V is Gemini and Reed is Aries and so on

So, I am here thinking Reed must fall under the same "Just another fish in the pond" kind of catagory. So imagine my surprise, when somewhere at the end I believe, out of completely nowhere, I am bombarded with V 's feeling coming off like an avalanche revealing that "she is in fact in love with them".

There were hardly any exchange of feelings, thoughts or even talking about their past or future between the main protagonists. Whenever they were together for a limited period of time, it's either this invisible pull she is talking about or his hard effing abs.

They were just teasing each other both physically and emotionally. I mean, the one time sex scene is found at the end and end only.
Personally, I just didn't find the depth of their relationship. I would have preferred if the bridge of connection was built somewhere in the storyline. Though I could somehow connect to their wild lust but apart from that I picked on nothing else.

And is it just me or someone like Zodiac, who we have been contemplating as this" big badasshole, too powerful to be true kind of villain" was tied down hand to toe with an action simple as kidnapping his wife?

Man, I was desperately waiting for some action.

“Drop the fucking gun,” I spit out.
Surprisingly, he does.”

The ending was sooo predictable, talk about Kai finally choosing V to V finally finding her lost brother, to zodiac being easily taken to V surviving that bullet she took for Jude and Jude being forgiven with so little effort..

As I said P R E D I C T A B L E

What a read!!!

I can't say much because of spoilers, but holy hell... This was a very entertaining read full of twists! So many unexpected situations. It was easy to read. The leading lady went through so much, but she was so strong. This can be read as a standalone, but it is part of a bigger picture (the Underestimated Series), and you'll probably enjoy it even more if you've read it all!

This book! Viddy is a strong, intelligent, wise-beyond-her-years heroine. She’s smarter than some of the male criminals that are twice her age, and everyone underestimates her because of her looks and youth. She’s sharp-witted, clever, patient, and ambitious. But she isn’t without her empathy, especially for the victims around her that she feels compelled to protect.
Despite the AMAZING-ness of the heroine, the potential love interests all failed to step out of her shadow. I say “potential” love interests, because while I knew going in this is an MFM romance, it’s such a slow burn that I couldn’t honestly tell who she was going to end up with.
I’m hesitant to even call this novel a romance. This is a coming of age story, the rise of an empire-style masterpiece. Sure, there are romantic bits, but they’re really quite slow burn and take the back burner to the rest of the engrossing plot.
There are some incredible twists in the storyline that had me reeling. However, I was disappointed in the “romance” aspect. I was considering giving this book 4 stars, but it’s just so, so, so good if you look at it not from the lens of a romance, but the lens of a thriller/crime novel that has a hint of steam.
All in all, I decided on 5 stars because I fell in love with Viddy and this book kept me riveted with a need to find out how her story would unfold.

So much potential. The cover and first chapters had me intrigued but Overall I needed more.
Some scenes I really enjoyed and the good writing. other parts I didn’t understand the point of. I liked the characters the action and twisty plot however, I didn’t get any real connection with the love interests. And some of the characters and plots were just random.
I really did like the idea of this story and the strong h -I just think it seemed disjointed and lacked emotional depth.

Ricochet was an intense, fast-paced read that hooked me right away. The mix of grit, danger, and vulnerability kept things exciting, and the romance had that raw, almost magnetic pull I love in darker stories. I really enjoyed watching the characters peel back their layers—the walls, the secrets, and the broken pieces made their connection feel earned and powerful. The action scenes had me flipping pages, and the emotional payoff in the romance was so worth the chaos.
That being said, there were a couple of moments that felt a little over the top—like the drama dial got turned up just a bit too high. Some parts were slightly rushed, and I wished we had just a little more breathing room for certain emotional beats. Still, those were small bumps compared to how much fun and feels this book delivered.

1.5 stars

I'm at a bit of loss as to how this book has achieved a near 4.5 star rating here.. but before I offend anyone, hear me out.

I think this story has good bones. Couple that with a smart, strong, fiercely loyal MC and you have something promising. But it fell flat for me because the story itself relied on telling vs showing, which irks me to no end.

1. Viddy's relationship with 'Reid' is about as deep as a puddle. After an immediate connection with the devil himself (at 15 mind you, so let's not give that too much credit) they are reunited after 6 years and from what we're told, we're to believe that this pull between them is stronger than ever. Fine, tell me that all you want but I just don't believe it, like at all. CMW spends so little time on developing these relationships (Viddy/Kai/Jude) that when the time comes for declaring their love for each other I'm just like..

2. I'm kind of livid at how the whole long lost brother just shows up at the final act (again, with the tidiest little explanation that really doesn't tell us much of anything) WITH Viddy's best friend Megan (one of her three man harem, apparently, and AGAIN another tidy little explanation that leaves more questions than answers) going by a different name and the whole scene was just a mess of lazy writing.

3. I can't let this one go at all, so making this it's own point. Stop writing unrealistic female characters where said female is desperately loved by all hot men who ever encounter her. That said, rewrite this story and make Cash (Leo) the guy she ends up with and I might be willing to give another star or two.

I just don't think anyone can read the last 20% of this book and not be angry by the rushed, sloppy, lazy writing. I don't want things tied up in a neat bow with a few lines worth of explanation that ultimately leave me with more questions, no answers, and little desire to read another book written by the author.

Another book by this author and I’m not disappointed. Loved the story line and the characters. The story unfolds in a way that you have to appreciate the work that goes into writing something that keeps you interested and has so much suspense especially with so many characters and keeping everything flowing so effortlessly. Above all I loved reading a book with a strong heroine. That was fantastic. Thank you to the author for that.

This book has literally blown my mind and I loved every minute if it. Let me first start by saying this book is NOT and will NOT be for everyone. It deals with some dark and heavy shit. Heed the warnings as the heroine is not a stranger to (multiple forms of) abuse at the hands of men. But the book also deals with much more such as a mafia lifestyle, murder, mayhem and more. The book is a standalone though I think it may have some minor connections to the Underestimated Series.

We meet Viddy as a young girl stuck in a horrible situation with no way out. When she’s had enough Viddy becomes the baddest B around and takes matter into her own hands. Harsh for someone so young but really she was put against the wall with no way out. Viddy said ‘fuck that’ and tore down walls and carved a new unknown path for herself. For years she struggles on the streets. Each and every day she hones her skills and become a more intelligent and cunning woman. One not afraid of anything or anyone. Viddy is dragged into the mob world and she takes it like a fucking champ as if she herself planned it. She takes the world by storm and honestly I have a lady boner for her after this. She’s as scary and threatening as she is seductively beautiful and sly. She will kill you without blinking and relish in the blood staining her high class heels.

Viddy is tired of being a pawn for others and from early on has a plan, a plan to rule and seek total domination. Viddy is the heroine of my dreams, beyond intelligent and a real take no shit kind of woman. While the book is beyond dark and there is much sexual tension shared between Viddy and a few men in her life, I wasn’t even sure who her two love interests would be until past 3/4 of the way in. In fact the first time she even has sex with anyone is around this point really making much of the focus of the book on her evolution which I absolutely loved. Viddy ruled with respect and power. She never wanted her being a woman to taint that. Her sexuality was her own and she guarded it like Fort Knox never allowing another man to have power over her. In ways I feel this made her a incredibly strong adversary and I control of herself. She didn’t even use her body to get her way. She was all skill and careful planning which I imagine was hard with so many dangerous delicious men around her all the time. Also can we get an applause for a heroine who while tempted quite often does not let her hormones run her life or make her stupid. Viddy is no simpering ninny falling at a mans feet. No, she’ll have that man tied up and knocked out cold in her refurbished asylum (aka her home lol) while she plays and decides what to do.

I’ve kept this review as vague as possible because there are quite a few secrets that really need to be dropped on you like a bomb when first reading this. I’m always complaining about books being predictable and I am so happy to report how much of this book surprised me. Early on Viddy runs into another young girl named Megan and the day they meet really sets in motion the comings of this story. While we don’t get to know much about Megan at all, I really hope and pray she will be getting her own story. There seems to be some setup for just that in the end and here’s to hoping I am right. Honestly I’m just riding the high from this book and how much I loved Viddy’s badassery. If you like a darker read with some naughty and a hell of a heroine absolute give this book a go, you’re welcome 😘😏😜 ** Seems like Megan’s story is already out as part of the Underestimated series mentioned above. Hers is book 2 in a series of what sounds to be comprised of MC RH standalones.

**The only issue I have with the book is... Also FYI this book is tagged by many as RH when really it’s just a MFM and it’s more like Viddy has two separate relationships rather than a unit if that makes sense.

HOLY BOOK HANGOVER

This book was insane! Intense and fast paced. It was a M/F/M that kept me guessing right until the very end.

The heroine, she was badass, strong in the face of adversity, ruthless and 100% my new woman crush. She had been through the worst of the worst and still came out swinging.

The whole plot was original, kept me on my toes and made me stop and breathe more than once because I didn’t know where it was going. I couldn’t guess a damn thing and I loved that.

That being said this book has a lot of triggers so if you are triggered easily please beware of this before you go into it..

See this is why Candice Wright is on my favorite author's list because she always comes through with her outstanding storylines!!! I'm extremely happy with this book! Bravo C.M.W. for writing another outstanding book.

I loved everything about this book especially the heroine! She was the epitome of everything I expect out of a badass chick heroine.

My fellow readers If you're looking for a badass chick that can hold her own with some serious Alpha males heroes action, well look no further you have found your book right here... I totally recommend this one, trust me you won't be disappointed!

There's a lot I can say about this book.

First things first? Viddy is a complete badass, and I'm in love. Because not only does she have personality, character depth, a story arc, she has a heart. She's kind, caring, and respectful to all those who deserve it, and she continually remembers her struggles on the streets to not only remind herself where she came from but to apply a new perspective to the world she's been thrust into.

Personally, I would have appreciated if she was more of an anti-hero. She starts on her anti-hero journey about thirty pages from the end and reaches her destination in the last few sentences of the novel, however, which makes the entire ending feel quite rushed. I also have a tiny bit of Mary-Sue vibes coming from specific scenes nearing the falling-action portion of the book in the sense that all of the guys in her life are at least "a little bit in love with her," especially Cash and William, who are a whole lot in love with her. Saying much about it would be hypocritical, though, as I'm in the same boat as the rest of them.

Honestly, I wish that Wright didn't make this a MFM romance and instead made it reverse harem, as the justification for not loving Cash and William was that her body wanted them, but her heart didn't. In my opinion, that sort of emotional attraction can be developed at any point, but to each their own.

That brings me to the love interests. Honestly, this was my least favorite part of the book. It makes me really sad to say because I pride myself on my book boyfriends, and sadly, Wright missed the mark for me here. The whole Jude-and-Kai twins switcheroo thing was cute and all, but not once did it feel like there was a relationship beyond physical attraction, which was what was displayed for most of the novel. Somehow I actually believe Cash and Will were closer to her emotionally than Jude and Kai were, and the twins were the ones she ended up "falling in love" with.

I didn't like the ending of this book at all, to be honest. The drama and angst Wright tried to create between the "lovers" was bothersome, the fact that Zodiac was so easily killed, and that Drake came back into Viddy's life was predictable all made me knock off a star from this review.

For me, Viddy truly carried this book single-handedly.

And on that note, please, if you're ever in this sort of situation, ask for help.

This was amazing, it’s probably my favourite book by this author to date and wasn’t anything like I was expecting. Definitely check your triggers before reading as this contained lots of them. This was less romance and more Viddy’s coming of age transformation. Going from scared abused young girl to a woman who takes no prisoners and rises to the top of her game and where she’s become’s the apex predator.

The romantic aspects of this was actually the smaller part of the story and I wasn’t even sure who the heroes were till probably over half way through this. For clarification this isn’t a reverse harem or even a classic menage set-up rather it felt like two separate relationships, so probably closer to a poly bond.

There was a lot going on here and this touched on some seriously dark topics. It’s set in the criminal world of organised crime and our girl becomes a key player but one with a moral code she’s ruthless but good at what she’s does. Her unthreatening appearance means everyone will always underestimate her which will always be their ultimate downfall.

As for everyone’s else’s motives a lot of the key players are enigmas themselves with some very questionable agendas. We are kept in the dark and mostly guessing as we discover all of this right alongside Viddy and that final end game was as cut throat as it was satisfying this girl is not afraid to make the hard choices. Highly recommend this one it was fabulous and I was gripped from the get-go.

Ahhh my gahhh😭 THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING! I expected a hot, and dark mfm romance but I got so much more than that and I wouldn't want it any other way!!

THE HEROINE WAS A LITERAL QUEEN😭 I had tears in my eyes because of how amazing she was! I loved Vida (the h) so much she was simply a badass! She was so strong and intelligent who wouldn't want that in their heroines?😍 because of how amazing she was I actually cared for her more than the actual romance in the book (which doesn't often happen) but is always welcomed! Because those types of books usually turns into favorites of mine! And this book is definitely a new favorite! I loved that we got a front seat in Vida's mind coming along with her journey to becoming the top dog/ lady boss in the dark and cruel world that she lives in who certainly hasn't been nice to her at all🥺 and meeting new AWESOME characters along the way. I felt for everything that she has been through which tbh isn't for the faint of heart but seeing her continue to be strong for herslef and simply never give up survining was just so admirable, that you just can't help but fall in love with her too😭!

The romance of the book was quite underwhelming though. I expected it to be a hot mfm, it was hot, but the Hs just wasn't it for me. They were okay, but I would have preferred it if Vida got together with her other subordinates like Leo and Will which imo she had more chemistry with tbh.🤣

Overall it was an amazing journey. I couldn't stop reading the book after the first chapter and it was definitely well worth the time, and I can't believe I only found this amazing gem now, because it definitely deserves a lot more reads and recognition!

I don't think I have any words right now to describe this 𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐍𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐆𝐄𝐌 I just read. This book completely possessed me from the first word to the last one.

“Beware of wolves with sharp teeth, little Red. Not everyone fights fairly.” Zodiac offers.
I smile up at him, a sweet smile which Wyatt finds hilarious because I’m anything but, then let it morph into the grin I use when I mean business.
“Some people see Red skipping through the woods without a care in the world, but that’s their mistake. If they looked closer, they would see her red cape is wolf fur coated in blood.”

It was so beautifully well written and the characters were just amazing. There wasn't a characters that I hated well except for Z̶̶O̶̶D̶̶I̶̶A̶̶C̶ of course but that goes without saying.
But usually there's always characters that are meant to be loved but are just so 𝐅#𝐂𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 annoying that you simply can't but wish there were brutally murdered.
Everything about this book was brilliant. It was funny and heartbreaking at the same time. It real and raw and emotional. The action was very Intriguing and Captivating. So many things happened that kept me from stopping to read, i desperately needed to know what happened next.

Okay, first off I had no idea this was THE Viddy! What?! I seriously didn’t make the connection until nearly the end. That being said, this 👏🏻book👏🏻is👏🏻perfection👏🏻 While I truly enjoyed all the books in the Underestimated Series, this one is absolute my favorite! Vida is everything and more I hoped she could be and her men are amazing. The twists, turns, and surprises🤯 Hands down one my favorite reads of 2020.

The heroine was cunning, compassionate, and homicidal. Aka my kind of woman.

I absolutely loved this book. I devoured it in a day. It's twisty, turny, and magnificently steamy. The author's weaving together of the convoluted strands of Vida and her family is so skilful that when the penny finally drops, I was just left shaking my head in awe, only seeing in retrospect the trail of breadcrumbs the author had me following. Vida is an unforgettable character - broken, rebuilt, ruthless, empathic - truly a queen of the underworld. Her world is full of danger, deceit, the long con, and explosive emotion. That ending - whew! What a pile driver of emotion. This is a stand-alone, dark romance where the heroine has more than love interest but there is no cheating.
Highly recommended.
