Using her newly established information guild Loufeng dethrones the Luijin Emperor and imprisons Empress Rong for their crimes—but gains the attention of the power Su Family. Next she returns home to restore the cultivation of her uncle and destroy the Mu family. While her efforts to kill key members and shake up the Imperial Palace are successful, the exploits reveal the identity of the Ghost Emperor, her concealed powers, and new enemies. Ultimately, she must separate from the Yun clan for a bit to visit the spirit realm. * * * * *------* * * * *-----* * * * * This continues to be a mixed bag. For every instance in which I get severely uncomfortable concerning the protagonist’s young age as she is the love interest of many characters there is a well-placed swear word or hamster in someone’s trousers. Thus, the novel has a unique way of balancing out the ick with humor, the agitation with delight. Our Mary Sue is still firmly protected by plot armor, but the story is continuing to increase the scale of the revenge element by increasing the number and strength of enemies and layering in conspiracies. While occasionally it seems to forget a plot thread it was setting up, I appreciate that it focuses on the action at hand allowing readers to enjoy the moment. I am disappointed that Luofeng is constantly told she is making good choices, ruining the reflective potential. It is also a strange choice to hollow out the earlier targets, making them puppets worthy of sympathy rather than cruel tyrants to be dismissed with ease.
