In the aftermath of Peepo’s war against humanity, the Mercenary Guild is still in chaos. On Earth, the moratorium on mercenary contracts is disrupting Jim Cartwright’s efforts to stand up the new Terran Federation. Making matters worse, Jim has received intelligence that someone is squatting on asteroids in our Solar System...and Sansar Enkh is pretty sure they don’t have Earth’s best interests in mind. Fearing the aliens have plans for another invasion—or worse—Jim takes his ship, Bucephalus, and sets off to investigate.
While the mercenary guild is in recess, Nigel Shirazi has an opportunity to make some credits, and when he leaves to pursue an illicit contract, Alexis Cromwell decides to follow up on some information she’s received on the mysterious Weapons Conglomerate. Nigel wouldn’t approve of her running off, especially eight months pregnant, but Alexis has never been one to listen to instructions—or orders for that matter. She gathers a squadron of Hussars and heads off on her quest.
Events in the galaxy are happening at a frantic pace as the guilds battle each other in the shadows…and sometimes in the open. The Four Horsemen are once again at the center of it all, and as the guilds squabble, the Dusman aren’t sitting on the sidelines. They have their own plans, and humanity is only part of them.

Well, hurricane force would be more appropriate… First a warning: the book is full of revelations about the 4HU, hence if you jump in on the bandwagon with THAT volume, well, going back and reading other stuff will take away the sense of wonder and the “Oh Sh*t!” moments happening when reading the book. What do we have in the book: well the Horsemen about to go on different missions. In Gale Force, we will follow Nigel Shirazi (yes, the Asbaran Solutions leader), Jim Cartwright (of Cavaliers, Raknar and My little Pony fame) and Alexis Cromwell (Winged Hussars) taking on different missions. Sansar Enkh is also present in the book but leaves on an errand of her own towards the Spine Nebula (hint: if you want to know more, One Minute to Midnight is the book you want to read and is next in-line in the publication schedule). Jim is underway to check interesting phenomena in the Solar system, for a change, without his buddy Splunk, who is busy elsewhere… Nigel Shirazi is sent on a mission by the Cartography guild to take care of a small problem for them whereas Alexis Cromwell has plans of her own which do NOT involve staying safe at New Warsaw… The book is full of plot twists, but it delivers! We learn A LOT about what happened during the Great Galactic War, we learn also about what is developing right now and also about potential new allies, interesting and thankful species… all in all, the book is a blast… and even If it is full of revelations… like all good revelations, those lead to more questions (Yes, Chris and Mark, I had a couple of swearwords thrown your way as I finished the epilogue…and I can’t wait for the next volume…) Alas, I can’t give 6 stars to Gale Force or I would… A must read for 4HU fans!
As usual Chris Kennedy and Mark Wandrey lead us on a wild ride. It does not disappoint in the least! With the galaxy turned upside down after the Omega War things have gotten even more complicated for Earth. Throwing in the Covid pandemic as a bioware was a nice touch. So many seemingly independent stories woven into this one was an even greater one. It's nice to see the results of Jim's solo adventures.
And of course the ending leaves me wanting even more then before!
This series just continues to grow and grow, bit like my rose bush! The plot is huge and covers entire history periods and joins up with previous short stories and even uses current situations to great effect! This story builds up at a great pace and as soon as it gets interesting it jumps to the next scene leaving you wanting more then repeats the process making this a real page turner! I am left wondering why nobody has picked up the rights for this as a TV series or Film franchise
This installment within the Four Horseman universe is excellent as expected. The writing is clear and tight. Characters are well developed and cohesive, the interactions between them adds to the story line. This are coming to a head as the Dussman and their ancient enemies come to th forefront. The Horseman move out separately for different objective but find those objectives linked as part of a much bigger picture. Looking forward to reading the next book!
This storyline gets better and better as it moves forward. The Dusman are coming out, Cartwright uncovers mysteries, and delights, in the Solar System, the leaders of the Horseman are up to the necks in galactic intrigue and drums of an old war are starting to sound louder.
I'm ready for the next one, this is a true epic science fiction universe!
A must read and so far my favourite in the Guild award series. Plenty of action and intrigue. Things proceed fairly quickly with many revelations but yet again, many unanswered questions.not so patiently awaiting book 8...
Another incredible book in the 4-H universe. Chris Kennedy and Mark Wandrey or both amazing authors and together they just work magic. Such a great story answering a lot of questions and of course coming up with new ones.
