Ofelia Archer has faced demons, evil witches, and freaky zombies, but nothing could prepare her for the horror of meeting her boyfriend’s mother, Madeline Sully. She thinks she’s ready and able, but she’s really not. For his part, Zacharias “Zach” Sully isn’t any more thrilled by his mother’s visit than his girlfriend. He’s simply better at dealing with Madeline’s brand of madness. After one meal, a magical barrage of fire rains down on the group as they’re walking down Bourbon Street. When the flames clear, a young woman is left for dead, and the only thing they know about her is that she was part of a multi-level marketing scheme called Hexential Oils. Before they realize what’s happening, Sully and Ofelia find themselves knee-deep in an odd world that neither of them really understand … and it leads straight to trouble, as usual. It seems New Orleans is teeming with suspects, and they have no idea which one to focus on. Ofelia and Sully have a bond that can’t be broken. That won’t stop outsiders from trying. When the hierarchy of Hexential Oils leads to long-forgotten magic and a creature of mythical proportions, they realize they’re in over their heads. They’ll die to protect one another … and someone desperately wants to make that a reality. It will take both of them working together to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Fun paranormal mystery. While this can be read as a standalone, this series is best enjoyed in order. The characters and their relationships are evolving in each book but the mystery stands alone. Great characters and world building. I love this takes place in New Orleans since I grew up near there.
This is one of my favourite series from this Author. A twist of romance and supernatural along with families, and all the fun they bring. Great to escape during physical lockdown.
There's always a good time to be had in the Big Easy.
Ofelia and Sully live and work in New Orleans, Ofelia owns her own bar and Sully is a detective with the New Orleans police department. They met a few months ago while Sully was in estimating a murder ----- which turned out to have supernatural undertones------------ Ofelia being a Witch chose to help Sully (who is a shifter) navigate the hidden magical world that exists in New Orleans. Since then the two have been inseparable (romantically attracted from the moment they set eyes on each other) their relationship has grown quickly. This book sees Sullys mum coming to town for a visit, and to meet Ofelia, while claiming not to be worried about what his mother thinks of her Ofelia can't help but feel some trepidation as Sully is convinced his mother will try to come between them. The visit is going well when something strange happenstance they are walking through Bourbon Street and a woman is left dead as a result. This begins another case where Sully will need Ofelias help.if he is to find the culprit/s as there is dangerous magic being used and it's targeting Sully. Some very amusing characters in these books my favourite is the relationship between Sully and Ofelias dad Oscar.
I don't know what happened, maybe the author is chugging out too many books under her two names? But this book was filled with errors and inconsistencies.
Example: Envie (ex-boyfriends' club) is "exactly one block" from Krewe. The author has stated this multiple times. Yet in this book, Fe and Sully walk BLOCKS to Envie from Krewe. That was the most jarring example.
Then there is the fact that Fe's personality completely changed. She is now a whiny and insecure brat. What happened?!? Where did the strong and independent female go?
Also, again, what is the point of having Sully be a shifter if it means nothing? All the other supernatural beings, every single one of them, has magical powers and come toss magic around. Except the shifters? I don't even understand why they were included.
So we went from two emotionally abusive parents to three? Awesome.
But the thing that grates the most is the "partnership" between Sully and Fe. WTH? So now detectives are partnering up with civilians and taking them with them everywhere they go? Yeah, NO. That is even more unbelievable than having powerless and pointless shifters included in the book.
Sully's mother, Madeline, with whom he's estranged plans a visit to meet Ofelia and try to resume a relationship. Sully is highly suspicious of her following years of being subjected to her attempts to control every aspect of his life. Wealthy and arrogant she arrives two days early and expects Ofelia and Sully to drop everything for her, they head out for a meal and end up witnessing the death of Kaley Crenshaw, from Hexential Oils a pyramid scheme seller, who'd called on Ofelia a short time before. The gas street lamps flickered and Kaley was engulfed in flames that immediately dissipated and the street lights resumed their former state.
The incident can only be supernatural because of the bizarre way it occurred.. but who was the target? Was it Kaley, Ofelia, Sully or maybe even Madeline? And who is behind it all?? As they dig amongst the other sellers they find ample reason for several to have disliked Kaley but is it reason enough?
A fun and entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series
This is an intense and fun and entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters with a spectacular storyline. Ophelia is a witch in New Orleans. She owns a bar down in the quarter which mini supernaturals frequent as well as the humans that travel to the quarter. Her father who used to own the bar still hangs around to assist her on occasion. As well as her flighty brother who comes in every once a while to help. Her boyfriend Sully is a police detective with the New Orleans police department. He also happens to be a panther shifter. Follow along as Ophelia and Soli and different friends solve crimes and murders mysteries and other issues going on around New Orleans. And intense and entertaining cast of characters and stories. You’ll be entertained from beginning to end. Check it out
I really loved this book. It was funny, sweet and snarky. The encounters with each of the characters was highly entertaining. I couldn't put the book down. I don't want to post spoilers, but we have huge proclamations, meddling parents, A lead character gets seriously injured and more. I wish there was more Pascal, I love him. He always comes through when Ofelia needs extra power. I love how powerful she is and how well suited she and Sully are. Felix was charming as ever and even Oscar is coming around. I love how Sully handles her family. This was a well rounded book. I love how the mystery was around an essential oils mirror company, hexential oils. Too funny. Looking forward to more adventures with this "Krewe".
I think Ofelia and Sully may be one of my favorite book couples. Perhaps even one of my favorite couples by this author, and she writes couples well. There’s just something so natural and low drama about their relationship, one of those ‘ham and eggs’ couples.
Ofelia’s father is mellowing (a little) on the whole “that’s my baby girl” attitude, and her kinda flaky, but loving, brother is supportive and a teensy bit intrigued by this serious dating thing. So, of course . . . (Da dum) Enter The Moms. Both of them. Eeek! Overbearing Plus.
And a dead woman, an old nemesis, and -(huh), a pyramid scheme? And, yeah, someone’s trying to magically kill our favorite bar owner and police detective.
Magical mayhem and romance, what's not to love ? 💘
I'm completely addicted to this writer, both under this own name and Amana M. Lee. One day I may catch up and try another writer again, but she puts out so much great work that mag take awhile. Oh, the book. We get to meet Sully's mother, who gets to unexpectedly meet Ofelia's mother. Will the world end? Bigger problems arise as Ofelia and Sully are attacked when trying to investigate a hexsational homicide. Spoiler alert, they get caught naked by family members, again. Just read the book. You won't regret it. Unless you don't like fun.
This is another fantastic series from Lily Harper Hart!
Totally enjoyed this mystery! Great storyline and I very much enjoyed the characters. I started with this author reading the Harper Harlow series and it was so fascinating that I decided to delve into more of her series. I read several of her crossovers, which were awesome and now I'm into this series, the Maddie Graves series and her newest one in which several of her female main characters are married with kids and are now solving mysteries. It's also fascinating! I'll get into some of her others at a later date. Anyway, I do enjoy everything this author writes!!!!!
I think the main difference between Amanda and Lily if that Amanda’s books are first person and Lily writes in third person. At least after 4 books that’s what I’m getting. I’m enjoying the NOLA vibe, although I’ve had my eyebrows raised a couple of times with her Bourbon Street descriptions. The safe part of that road is only about three blocks long and patrolled by mounted police. Out heroine seems to go further down it than I would. I’ll stay close to the dirty Hustler store.
My favorite book of the series so far. I always love it when the families meet. It’s like the first test for a new relationship. I really like Sully and his alpha-ness. I want to see more from Ofelia. She’s supposed to be one of the strongest witches in New Orleans and yet she can’t always identify other paranormals. Oh and when will Sully fully shift? I can’t wait for that to happen and see how Ofelia reacts.
I'm so in LOVE with Sully and Ofelia, I love the banter and passion you've built up between them. I love the eclectic family mix you've built for them but most of all I love their desire to do good in life and find justice for others. This book was just another tale in their crazy lives. It was a quick read, with intriguing new characters and some great stories. I highly recommend it!
This book, as well as the others in this series, has not been disappointing. They are entertaining with comical moments and manage to keep you on the edge of your seat until the end! I highly recommend this author and her books!

Every time I am finished with a book from this author, I’m always bummed because they are just so good! This go round, Fe and Sully are doing their typical murder investigation but now his mother and her parents are following them around, barging into their apartment and making menaces of themselves. It was fun and I loved it!
It's probably a toss-up between Ofelia and Hannah Hickok as to the most unique LHH/AML's storyline/heroine, but this witch is pretty bada$$. Great use of MLM with a nicely sympathetic beat. Really looking forward to more 3 J's and their obvious potential for hijinks. LHH, your books put a spell on me! Kudos again.
Things are progressing between Ophelia and Zach when his mother pays a visit. An explosion and a dead witch makes things more intense as they try to solve the murder. The investigation turns into a family affair with both moms joining in. All they want is time for themselves, away from all the crazyness that is the French Quarter.
From an early age Zack knew he wasn't about to please the family and follow in the family business. He and his Mother battled for years. Living in New Orleans and working at a job he loved, he finally met the woman of his dreams, but what would his venomous mother think? Good story, fast patter and a love story! Enjoy...
I love all of the stories and characters that Amanda M Lee brings to life but I have a special place in my heart for NOLA, and she didn’t not disappoint with this latest installment either . Love Sully and. Ofelia and their adventures- as well as a cast of new characters to learn to love and grow with.
Ofelia thought she had more time before she would meet Sully's mother, but the woman arrived early to catch everyone unprepared. Then Oscar involves himself in the situation, and Marie shows up to make a full house of parents. In their spare time from family drama, Ofelia and Sully need to solve a viscous murder and attacks on their lives.
Witch is The New Black (A Supernatural Speak easy Cozy Mystery book 4
This sis one of my favorite Author s. She writes wonderful paranormal mysteries. I highly recommend all her books and different series. I have read them all. All were great. I have read over 55 of her books. Diana Romano
Disappoints. I've been reading Lily's books for awhile now. I feel the same now as I did with then. You would think with so many books they would become repetitious. Even reading her series she keeps them entertaining and fresh. If you like mysteries, a hint of romance, and comedies then you will love reading her books. Take a chance. You won't be sorry!!
When Zach's mother shows up a few days earlier then expected, she expects both Zach and Fe to comply with her demands. But Zach knows better than to be manipulated by his mom.
When a murder lands in their lap, the duo work together to try to solve it.
Who would have expected both families to get along, though?
In the enchanting realm of New Orleans, magic weaves through every cobblestone street and whispered legend, encompassing mystical wonder, raw emotion, and boundless imagination. Sully and Fe's connection transcends ordinary love, embodying a profound and transformative bond that captures the city's ineffable spirit. And sharing the good feelings among friends and family.
Who doesn't love meeting the parents?!? Anyone with any sense! Sully and Ofelia both have sense and when both mothers unite along with Ofelia 's father what ensues could just be murder! Love the happy couple!
Definitely love the series, the characters are fun and interesting. The storyline is really good and the author has captured a way to keep it intriguing.
While fighting paranormals involved in a deadly multilevel marketing scheme, Ofelia and Sully take their relationship further despite interfering mothers who descend on the scene.
This was divine! Every bit of it. Sully and Ophelia are wonderful and easy to love. I laughed and had all the feels for this one. Do not read if you haven't read the others first though because this one will ruin it for you.
SO GLAD I had the day off because I couldn't out this down if I tried!! Meeting his mom and learning more about Sully's history was great. Very well written. And poor Oscar.....
So much going on between the covers of this book...family, romance, mystery, magic! Every page was a mini adventure and I look forward to the next Ofelia and Sully book! This is a great addition to the Lily Harper Hart library.
