To regain his life, Joseph Hunter will have to die.
Having entered the Realm of the Dead, Joseph will stop at nothing to save his daughter’s soul from all the supernatural threats at Hel’s disposal. He’s not on Earth anymore, and the stakes have peaked higher than ever.
After his best friend, Xander, executed a Rogue Angel, Joseph finds it hard to trust him in the dark realm. An aloof hellhound offers to lead the feuding group through the Underworld, claiming his mysterious master could offer help against the demonic forces. But reality and nightmare blur together in Hel. To succeed, Joseph will have to place his trust in someone, or fail alone.
Can he master his shadow magic, save his daughter’s soul, and defeat the most powerful threat to human existence?
You’ll love this book because of the unique magic systems, sarcastic characters, and cynical twists.
A product of Small Town, California, Alex Gates is a loving husband, skilled educator, true Gryffindor, dragon-slayer, wizard of the highest order, defender of the realm, Cowboys fan, and connoisseur of cheap beer. He spent four years at California State University, Sacramento studying literature, watching football, and day drinking before obtaining a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Southern California.
That was something else. I do love John's sense of humor. I liked the fact that he found something new to live for. I don't know if this will be the last book in this series but I hope that there will be at least one more. One to let us know how things are really going for them. Awesome story though. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I love a great snarky antihero. The characters in this series are so well developed and the world-building is superb. Each book can be read as a stand-alone but, the series as a whole is a great arc. One of the things I enjoyed most was the breaking of the fourth wall as our main character talks to the reader.
Yet another terrific story line by this author. The book was also had characters that were well written. This was another great addition to the series.

This series was a refreshing change of pace in the urban fantasy genre. Very unique storyline. I read all four books in two days. Thank you for such a wonderful read. Hope there are more to come!
Irreverent and funny. This is a little bit like a cross between dead pool and Dresden. I really enjoyed the series. I think the last book fell apart a little bit trying to make everything fit together, but a good story.
Great series, Alex Gates knows how to combine dark stories with just the right amount of humor. It's a definite hit, quick paced and utterly ridiculous at times.
What can I say except, amazeballs!! A truely original story line that takes you to Hel and back!! I HOPE I get to read more about Joey Hunter in the future!!!
