Update: Funny how many people who object to "bullying" are so eager to take part in it themselves. If you engage in a coordinated hate campaign against someone that includes threatening them with violence or doxxing, you are, in fact, a bully -- and despite how many times you tell yourself that you're morally superior to said "bullies," you are, in fact, not. And I find it particularly troubling when women side with toxic white men in perpetrating said bullying since women are more often victims of hate speech than men.

This Goodreads reviewer (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1...) launched a twitter post that is a coordinated hate campaign against me in which he also threatens my job: https://twitter.com/ashton76706820 (https://twitter.com/Ashton76706820/st...

"The only way to top her is to expose her! She's big and mean behind her profile. She's a teacher and you can not tell me her school board would be okay with her online hate."

He also styles himself as the "The Reviewer Police!" So, just so we're all clear: he gets to decide what is/is not an appropriate review because, didn't you know, that's the prerogative of men!

A few other Goodreads authors and reviewers have also commented, using similar pejorative language (never mind that my low ratings for many books are due to the racism, homophobia, islamophobia, abelism, and misogyny in them, but somehow I'm the one who "belittles" people). Please note that I have reported the above twitter post to Goodreads.

Review

Filed under "what I thought would be obvious, but I guess not": "Dub-con" and "non-con" are not "lifestyle practices," but are, in fact, illegal.

This is the second of four Dad Bod Doms books about male friends who discover that marriage and kink suffer when romance becomes routine and the smexy times turn staid. Determined to salvage their relationships, each man enacts a plan to reconnect with his wife/sub through a combination of increased communication and renewed BDSM play. It isn't necessary to read Logan, the previous book, to follow this.

Well into their '40s, Henry and Natalie are at a cross-roads: their marriage has sunk under the twin weights of job pressures and disappointment over their inability to conceive. Seeing no way forward, a desperate Natalie files for divorce; an equally desperate Henry decides to kidnap her and hold her captive in their BDSM dungeon until she changes her mind. The rest of the book details their efforts to repair their relationship via kink and conversation.

Before I get to my review, I want to say that I understand that within a prescribed template, books in any series need to provide some variation to prevent reader boredom. Because this series is in the erotic romance genre, that variety derives from disparate relationship dynamics and kink practices; thus, this volume is much more extreme than the previous one. While Logan and Felicity by-and-large practiced bedroom kink and enjoyed relatively mild BDSM play, Henry and Natalie live an M/s relationship suffused with more edgy sexual practices. Based on our purely subjective likes and dislikes, readers will, of course, ultimately prefer some entries in this series to others.

This is my long way of saying that because my own personal kinks don't include M/s, kidnapping, the more hard-core BDSM activities depicted here, or -- most especially -- getting off on a woman's real fear, I didn't respond to this book and preferred the first one. Even allowing for my subjective response, however, I had three major problems with this book: its lack of fidelity to the world in which it's set, Henry's extreme unlikability, and Natalie's inexplicable responses to Henry's behavior.

To Elaborate:

1) This series is set in our 21st century United States; thus, kidnapping is a felony. Yet, Henry () spends less than one nano-second considering the consequences. Now you could argue that he's too upset to think clearly, but given how invested this series is in realistically portraying the lives of down-t0- earth, relatable -- albeit kinky -- people, this scenario stretched my suspension of disbelief to the breaking point, which brings me to;

2) Henry is impossible to empathize with and while I understand that other readers felt he redeemed himself, I didn't. His initial reaction to discovering that Natalie had left him was completely selfish: he made it all about him and at no point wondered why she was so unhappy -- nor did he care enough to find out. He simply wanted her back under his terms, which were purely about sex. While I understand that he was looking upon their sexual activity as a way for them to reconnect, you don't put the cart before the horse: the physical side of a long-term, monogamous relationship is meaningless without trust and communication. In addition, Henry doesn't reveal his true identity to his wife when he kidnaps her; thus, when he , Natalie really does believe that she's being held captive by a sociopath (while we know the truth, she does not). Does Henry care that she's terrified and in tears? Perhaps for a nano-second, but mostly he's thinking about how "hot" she looks and how much he enjoys treating her like this ("Ignoring her choked sob, I clasped it around her neck and secured it with a hex key, then laid a chain leash over her shoulder.."). That he puts his own wants and needs above hers to this degree makes him a bad dom, a worse husband, and an abominable human being. Nothing that he does later could remove the bad taste in my mouth that he left, which brings me to;

3) Ms. Greywood tries to make all this palatable by having Natalie think . The problem with this strategy is two-fold: A) It challenges any and all rational thought that anyone would believably react like this (I spent the entire rest of the book wondering how Natalie could ; and B) Removes . TBH, I never understood why Natalie wanted to salvage their relationship given how little Henry knew about her, how little she needed him, and how much he had neglected her. . The author tried to make this plausible, but I didn't buy it.

2 stars. The writing and editing were decent, and I appreciated the LGBTQ+ representations, the older MC, and some aspects of the ending. But given the realistic expectations this series has set, I found this couple's behavior and reactions at best inexplicable and at worst extremely 0ff-putting. And given that Henry is a supposedly experienced dominant, his willingness to engage in non-consensual, even illegal, activities that only by the magic of fiction don't traumatize his wife/sub, made this depiction of BDSM unpalatable. It also contained my biggest pet peeve in this genre: both are responsible for the problems in their marriage (I would argue Henry more so), but only Natalie pays the price. Ultimately, I was neither invested in them as a couple nor did I find the kink descriptions erotic; rather, they were so unpleasant given Natalie's real terror that I couldn't read them. Their problems were far too serious and had been for far too long for the ease in which they worked out. YMMV.

ETA: I want to reiterate that given the investment this series has in presenting a realistic version of D/s, the fact that the kinks depicted here later turn consensual does NOT excuse the earlier absences of consent, safewords, or limits; made Henry look like a hypocrite; and should have come with a content warning.

2nd ETA: The fact that none of the Arcies remotely touch on Natalie's very real fear and terror when Henry kidnaps and assaults her is Reason #900 for why I started writing my own reviews: I don't engage in willed blindness. If you liked this book, fine, but don't ignore the parts of it that don't support your analysis of it -- particularly when readers who don't like non-consent might try this book based on your recommendation.

Wow, I've not read a Raisa Greywood book before but she is very definitely on my radar now!

The Dad Bod Doms series had really caught my eye - as an more mature reader it was great to see a set of books dealing with the impact of growing older, having kids and trying to balance everything. I decided to buy all the books, and I'm so glad I did. Henry is such a wonderful story, full of emotion, full of the truth of growing older in ANY type of sexual relationship, not just a kink one.

I have to say that at first I felt the title character was getting off lightly, that Natalie forgave his stupid action, or reaction, following her debut art show a little too quickly. I think I personally would have been angry for longer but that's me, not Natalie! However as the story progressed he acknowledge repeatedly that he had behaved stupidly and he realised how lucky he was that Natalie had forgiven him so swiftly. It was great that Henry wasn't afraid to recognise, accept and learn from his mistakes, and I loved how his sole focus was in making Natalie happy.

This was a "can't put it down" read for me. I fell into it's pages and lived the story. It was at times emotionally intense, ranging from lust, to anger, to sadness, to longing and everywhere in between. I wish I could unread this books, just so I could enjoy discovering its delights all over again for the first time. The mix of scorching hot sex scenes, tender moments of reconnection and a wonderful couple rebuilding their trust and relationship was perfect. I hugely recommend this to those who don't mind power exchanges in a story and want a well written love story.

Hands down henry was a crappy husband and dom .. im sorry but truth.. he went about this talking to my wife allllll wrong.. in my eyes..and after what he did I couldn't root for him. And wished Natalie (h) didn't forgive him that easy.. did he redeem himself yeah. But i still couldn't root for him in the end.

Let's talks about Husband wise. He never gave his wife attention and wonder why she wanted to leave him, and when he finds out SHE doesn't need him because she master her dream he gets angry and jealous saying her artwork is childish she cant make a living without him (in his pov he never told her that) instead of talking to her like a grown ass adult he kidnaps her and makes her believe its some random guy. And punishes her. Tech he kinda non-con oral sex her or rape really.. because she still didn't know that was her husband. And he even faked pushed her hard limit of watersports.. thinking this kidnapper pissed on her. 😡😡😡😡 to what learn her lesson of wanting a divorce? Now he wanted to continue being a fake kidnapper but things change and he told her it was him... and still won't let her go until they train again and get back that slave/master connection. 😒😒😒 should have been honest from the start instead of fake kidnapping her.

And Natalie should not have taken him back for traumatizing her (even if it was one night Epilogue even said he did traumatized her) thinking she has been taken by some random guy.. being humiliated, pushing her hard limits.. like she deserved so much better then Henry. She told him so many times she wants to talk, no games no training.. but Henry kept saying no.

No ow/om drama, no cheating, drama, slight secondary character, sexy times, no virgins

Recommend- ehh no

OH Henry!!!! I could NOT put this book down. From the first page until the very last page, it was a joy to see an average couple struggling in their lives and in their marriage. When Henry and his 3 buddies get together for their yearly camping trip, they each realize what a mess their lives and marriages are in. They resolve to change that in the coming year. What follows is Henry's attempt to bring life back into his marriage to Natalie! And boy does he deliver. I'm not going to give away what he does but it sure opened Natalie's eyes. Can Henry make the changes needed to save his marriage or will his attempt fail big time? I highly recommend this book. HIGHLY!!!!!!

hmmmmmm….

Full disclosure: I can read and appreciate most all life choices, even if they don’t suit me, and appreciate the writing, but an M/s relationship is more aggressive and forceful than a D/s relationship, and it’s a hard limit for me. This interpretation (the forceful aggressive) is solely based on my very limited experience of an M/s relationship. I wanted this under a full disclosure so you would understand that there are times it is virtually impossible to read without prejudice. This was one of those times for me. The synopsis doesn’t even hint at an M/s relationship, and I wish it would have because my choice to read this story would have been completely different.

So now let’s say that I could turn a blind eye to my aversion and total lack of understanding why anyone would participate in a M/s relationship, this story is hugely problematic for me. I’ve thought about why for a few days and it comes down to the author’s choices. She made the choice to create Henry as a narcissist who quite frankly cared more about his ego than his wife. This isn’t a feeling I have or interpretation of Henry, this is fact based on actions on the page. I’m not going to elaborate except to say that if you want me to believe in a relationship, then you have to make it credible and realistic. If you want me to understand a character’s choices, then once again, you have to make them credible and realistic.

I hate to even put this last part in, but there are plot points in this story that might be triggering to some people and it should have been disclosed. The way Henry goes about winning his wife back is borderline psychotic, non-consensual and quite frankly illegal and some might even say a bit immoral. There is little to no romance in this story and it just went too far.

These are just my two-cents on the story. Some of you might not have any issue with any of it. That’s totally okay. Our life experiences shape the way we perceive the world whether we like it or not and sometimes it is impossible not to hold prejudices in certain scenarios. This is my scenario. Do with that information what you will :)

Henry is the second book in a 4 book multi-author series about 4 married men who make a pact while on their annual camping trip to rekindle their marriages. They call themselves the “Dad Bod Doms.” They all used to play together once upon a time at a kink club, but marriages, careers, kids ect...have changed all that.
Henry has had his marriage in a stalemate for quite some time now, and his wife decides she’s had enough. So Harry makes some wild plans to get his wife and marriage back on the line, all the while dealing with a boss who puts the N in nasty.
I enjoyed the characters, but I questioned the way Henry went about getting Natalie back. It skated some consent issues for me, and walked a fine line I wasn’t always comfortable with. But that’s a judgement call for the reader, otherwise, a good book.

The concept for this series is excellent – what happens when people living the BDSM lifestyle are no longer in their 20’s or even their 30’s? When gravity has the effect it invariably does, when the harsh realities of everyday life get more overwhelming, when comforting routines become neglected?

The story was a little uncomfortable for me at first because I didn’t find Henry, the male lead character, likeable at all. I won’t give any spoilers, but the meanness he re-discovers in himself during his efforts to win her back, was startlingly intense. I realized it’s because I read a lot of stories that involve variations of D/s or D/l, but this one was really an M/s relationship. Natalie, the female lead character, is quite likable; as the reader I really wanted her to succeed when she tries to discover who she is inside, and what she truly want out of life.

I thought the author did an excellent job working in the psychological explanations for the rewards both participants find in the M/s dynamic, as well as showing the components necessary for the relationship to work successfully. There are a couple of wild plot twists, and some good secondary characters. It was impressive to me that by the end of the story the author managed to make Henry much more likable than he was at the beginning, despite the fact that he remains a sadist. Their HEA is beautifully achieved.

Henry steamrolls over the senses. Characters like Henry aren't often on my radar, but there was no escaping this Dad Bod Dom. Greywood crafted a second chance story unlike any other. From naughty seduction to emotional romance, Henry defies the stereotype of Prince Charming and somehow comes out on top.

What happens to a Master and his sweet slave after the i do? Do they live happily ever after? Or does that special spark slowly fade? And what is a Master to do when he finds his sweet slave left him? Well.....find her and kidnap her, naturally!

That’s a story that i really would love to read, because it sounded like one i just knew i’d enjoy.
So,when Raisa was so generous to give me an ARC in exchange for an honest review,i jumped with joy and shouted YES,PLEASE!

When Henry came back from his weekend,he was nackered. He’d hurried home to start reconnecting with Natalie, but when he woke up,she was gone.....Finding her goodbye letter is like a slap to his face, and he knows he’s got to step up and do a lot more to get her back than he thought. Back at work, his boss Bethany delivers another blow. But this one,he welcomes. Because the stunt she tries to pull,is the one that makes him quit. Relieved at finally being free from a job that lost its attraction years ago. And free to save his marriage. Once he finds out where Natalie is,he sets a plan in motion.

Natalie is tired of the distance between her and Henry. After years of trying, accepting they’re not going to have children is still hard. Henry seems to bury himself in his work, and doesn’t even notice her anymore. Doesn’t know what she’s doing these days. So,if she leaves,he won’t miss her, will he? Her new bestie Charles/Chloe owns a gallery and is willing to host an exhibition of her work. Helping her build a new life. Only, she’s kidnapped after the exhibition.

Henry and Natalie’s journey towards a new, better connection was.....unique. And i loved it! A Dad Bod Dom that isn’t afraid to show his emotions,to admit he f**ked up,and a slave that knows she allowed it to happen. Both needing eachother, and needing to find the way back. If the police that shows up unexpectedly will let them....

I also love the Stronghold and Castle connection that keeps coming back....and i think i’ll see that with Ray’s story, too😉 Can’t wait!

This is the second of the Dad Bod Doms books, and it was a really good one.

I didn't like Henry to start with. I think that he kind of didn't think that he was the problem or a big part of the problem. I mean, it takes 2 to tango, and it takes 2 to fall apart, if you know what I mean. I think that he was more willing to blame everything on Natalie, until he read the note that she left and he came to some ugly truths. She showed him a little bit more too, and I started to like him more as the book went on.

I really like Natalie. I think that she was really brave and very strong. It takes a lot of work and guts to look at your life, realise that you want it to change, and then change it. She recreated herself, and she ended up putting herself into a place where she could thrive. That's true courage.

This book took me so far out of my comfort zone, it wasn’t funny – and it’s a great read because of that. This is the second of the Dad Bod Doms working on his marriage, and wow, his ideas are not average! It is very easy to dislike Henry at the start of this book, but if ever a character redeemed himself, it was Henry. There is one particularly brilliant scene that incidentally doesn’t include Natalie, but you’ll enjoy it when you get to it. I don’t want to include any spoilers, so I am reluctant to write about the story, but I can tell you that Raisa Greywood has really aced these characters and this story. I loved this book, and I found these characters wholly relatable.

I just love that Raisa brought a little bit of dark romance to this collection =P Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and she managed to do it with a married couple!!!

Everyone brings a little something different to the collection and Henry and Natalie have that dark romance hot vibe that is going to stick with you long after the book is over.

I was delighted to receive an ARC copy of this book. I absolutely adored the entire concept of this series before I got to read any of them, and Henry by Raisa Greywood did not disappoint.
It is so refreshing to read about the reality of relationships that have endured the test of time and meet protagonists that are so very relatable.
Yes, I'm sure we all love the hunks and the muscle men and all of the beautiful people, but occasionally it's a breath of fresh air to look behind all of that and revisit a relationship a decade or more down the road when reality bites. And that is exactly what you will get here.
I was in tears from the first chapter, followed by heartache, empathy and even laughter. This book wrenched at the emotions in the best of ways.
I have been left truly impatient to read the rest of the series.

Fantastic!

This is the second book in the Dad Bod Doms series. It is delightfully different while keeping with the theme. This one is a couple who could not have children, a strain in their marriage in and of itself. So what's a guy to do?.

This story has a lot of BDSM and it was all well written, smart and hot! I loved these characters. I really hope when this series is done we get to see all of them interacting together. Could we have a fifth book?
Please.

I think if you read this as a stand alone, you would miss the premise. I do recommend this series.

I loved this new entry in this fresh, fun and fiery series. I can't tell you how much I love the fact that these authors are taking the typical beloved Dom character and painting him with a brand new coat of genuineness that proves there is so much more to being a hot, swoon worthy Dom than simply being young and unencumbered. It is the story of a couple that already found love, grabbed that HEA and are supposed to be living the dream....and yet as it does, life got in the way. This book gives us Henry and Natalie's story. My heart ached for these two. The things they are going through are realistic and very relatable. Henry may have been a "Dad Bod Dom" but he was one hella swoon worthy hero!!! 🔥🔥🔥 I found this couple's story very moving AND very steamy. A perfect combo for sure! I'm electing to post forthright review.

I’m loving this series. Book 2 of the Dad Bod Doms did not disappoint. The M/s relationship completely took me out of my comfort zone but in a good way. I will admit, I didn't like Henry in the beginning but he completely redeemed himself as the book went on. Natalie Mercer is done with her husband. After almost 20 years of marriage, they have become roommates. Roommates that do not even like each other. It is time for her to stop wishing for things to change and move on without the one man she loves.

Henry Mercer has lost sight of all the things he found important. He used to be an in-control dominant who was matched perfectly with his submissive wife, Natalie. Now his dungeon is a playroom for spiders and insects and his body looks like it was made by Cherry Garcia. With some help from his fellow doms, he decides to make some changes.

This is book two in a four-book series. Each novel is written by a different author. I did not read book one, Logan, by Golden Angel, but now I wish I had. Henry’s book was so entertaining and beautiful. It started off with a bang and the action did not stop there. I could sense Henry’s anger and frustration about Natalie’s decision to leave him through the pages. Natalie’s anguish and internal struggle with her relationship with her body, family belief system, and her marriage with Henry felt so realistic. I felt Natalie and Henry could be any couple today. I really liked that the author included the concept of a kink-friendly mental health professional. There are not that many out there and Natalie’s story could have turned out differently if her psychotherapist was not understanding and compassionate. Raisa Greywood filled this novel with humor, laughter, tears, realism, and compassion. My only issue was Henry’s ex-supervisor. I did not understand why she did what she did. I mean it was petty but unnecessary. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading the other three books in the novel. I am glad during this current quarantine, there was no mention of quarantine and the quarantine was not a theme in this novel. This novel was a job well done.

I received a free advanced reader copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Silver Foxes, his and hers!

This was my first book by Raisa, I have been so excited to read all the Dad Bod Doms books and in-turn be introduced to a couple new to me authors.

This book was incredibly well written and the D/s - M/s dynamic was very detailed, and to my knowledge accurate and mindful to those in the lifestyle (I've read plenty but don't practice so I'm basing my opinion on what I've learned along the way).

I will admit that I have never read dub-con before and I did struggle with that part of this story. Again, this has nothing to do with the author and the writing but my lack of knowledge in this area.

I really enjoyed that this was a married couple...(even a couple of sexy silver foxes) working to get back what they'd lost along the way.

They worked through things...they communicated and they played, oh did they play! 🔥🔥🔥

I'm excited to continue this series!

This book was so much fun! Henry goes out of his mind when he finds out his wife has left him. So what does he do to get her back? Kidnap her until she comes to her senses, of course! I loved how they each realized and admitted to their faults in their relationship, and their journey back to each other. This book was super sexy with a lot of feels. This is my first book by this author but I will absolutely be reading more!

Love it!(even if he is named Henry)

Wasn't sure if I could deal with the hero having the same name as my first husband but they are nothing alike! This Henry is sexy, loving, and dominant, and crazy about his wife, Natalie.. crazy enough to kidnap her after she leaves him. But this is a story of redemption and true love. Sometimes you just have to go to great lengths to get a man to listen and he does, in spades. Great HEA! Interesting way to deal with police accusations too... laughed myself sick! Wonderful story. Can't wait to move on to the next one in the series.

Henry and Natalie’s relationship is broken, busted but is it beyond repair? At the beginning of the story Henry is a cocky jerk that has no reason from what I see to be that way. I didn’t like him at all. Natalie, now I liked her and I was pulling for her. She goes on a journey of self discovery just like Henry does but she is more relearning how to be a slave to Henry’s Master. The dynamic of M/s made me a tiny bit uncomfortable that I skimmed some parts of the story. But overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and Henry redeems himself in my eyes.

Alright y'all Henry and Natalie are up... when Henry gets home from his weekend away he's clueless to the fact his wife is ready to leave him. When he goes into work and gets crappy news he makes some strong decisions that makes him happier than he has been in awhile. While Natalie is also getting her dreams but struggling with leaving him. There relationship is severly broken and when he realizes just how far gone she is you know he's gonna work hard to get them back. I will say they each work hard in there own ways to make the other feel special and wanted.
