I gave Spanish Short Stories for Beginners Book 1 4 stars because it lived up to my expectations. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is short. Only three stories. I chose this book because I’ve been learning Spanish on my own for seven months and wanted to pick up a book to read that might help me continue in that journey in a fun way. This book not only added to my Spanish vocabulary but also encouraged me to keep learning.
I liked that the book wasn’t written using toddler-type language but used conversational type language. The author challenged me to just read each story to see what I could comprehend before looking up any words. Each chapter is followed by multiple choice questions, also in Spanish. And then the story is repeated in English. To my surprise, I understood the stories for the most part with a few unfamiliar words sprinkled throughout making me wonder what details I was missing. After I read the English version of the story, I re-read the Spanish version and even looked up words I didn’t know. This is very easy if you read the Kindle version because you can download the Spanish dictionary that also give you the English meaning.
In every aspect, I enjoyed the book and recommend it for anyone with some knowledge of Spanish who wants to learn the language enough to use it. I definitely give this book a thumbs up. It’s a fun way to enhance your language capabilities.
Easy Spanish Stories Book 1, free on Apple Books, has the first 3 very short stories. Each story is quite interesting in its own way.
Story 1 was a pretty interesting and emotionally accurate depiction of a teenage boy’s arrival in a new neighbourhood. Stories 2 and 3 have an extra educational element beyond language practice, which personally, I found very interesting, including a way to know the temperature outside without a thermometer!
If you are in the very early stages of learning Spanish, reading stories like these is an excellent way to progress. You can often guess the meaning of some less familiar expressions. If you’re not sure, the ability in digital readers like Apple Books to get a translation of a word or expression or whole sentence, just with a click, is great.
Each story relates to a couple of topics, with emboldened expressions relating to the topics in the text, which helps when trying to guess new expressions. There are topic-related word lists after each story, which can be used as aids. There are 5 multiple choice questions after each story. There seems to be a few errors in the questions and answers, but that is a small drawback. Lastly, the story is repeated in full in (American) English.
Bueno, no parece muy logico leer un libro con historias en español para angloparlantes pero ya que tiene las historias traducidas al ingles me pareció perfecto para leer algo sencillo que me ayude a conocer mas bocabulario en ingles y solo vi la historia en español para resolver dudas. Me parece que està muy bien escrito y que tiene muchos consejos utiles para empezar a leer en un nuevo idioma, estoy feliz de haberlo leido 😊👍
I enjoyed reading each of the short stories and learning new words. I especially loved that they had questions at the back so that I could make sure that I really comprehended what I read. This book was super short! I was sad that it ended. There is also an English summary of each book.

Me gusta este libro porque cada historia tiene tanto en Español como en Inglés. Cuando escuché, por primera vez, no entendí. Pero mientras escucho uno a otra vez, empieza a entender~
Just when I thought my Spanish speaking skills were getting halfway decent. Haha. This was hard! But I liked it. I’m sure I’ll listen to it several more times.
I read this book and noticed that it is not difficult to understand. Reputation of new words make you remember those words easily. I will definitely recommend this book to all Spanish learners.
