There’s so much to see and do at a carnival! There’s the smell of carnival treats like funnel cakes and cotton candy. Games that give you a chance to dunk the sheriff or win a stuffed teddy bear. Don’t forget the Ferris wheel ride. And yes, there’s that unpleasant business about the murdered man lying on the ground in the parking lot.
When Linc and Brigid agree to host a chili booth at the Summer Carnival, they never thought the day would end in discovering one of their B & B guests, the popular host of the online travel show, “Take Five,” murdered in the parking lot.
But was Micha really all that popular? Someone, actually a lot of people, certainly didn’t think so, and it’s up to Brigid and Sheriff Davis to figure out which one them hated Micha enough to kill him.
And it never hurts to have a huge Newfoundland dog help you track down a murderer, particularly when they can’t be found!
This is the 12th book in the Cottonwood Springs Cozy Mystery Series by a USA Today Bestselling Author and Amazon All-Star.
I started reading this story as a book. But then I received the audio version. It was great!! I loved the storyline. And as always I loved Jett!! He’s a great dog!
I only read this book for a challenge about a carnival. The writing was juvenile, I think I could have done better and the way she had the sheriff talking like some kind of real hick was very off putting.
This is another great read by this wonderful author. It was different as in we knew who was getting killed. And basically, no wonder he was going to be murdered. He was awful. Everyone had a reason to want to Murder the guy. So it was fun trying to guess who and why. I never did figure it out lol. I think you would love this book. If you like audiobooks, this one has a great narrator. She brought it alive.
I enjoyed this book. I think I have gotten use to the way the author writes, having the murder a cure in the first chapter and then going back in time and explaining the events leading up to the death. The first couple of books it confused me how a dead man can get killed but then be annoying someone in the next chapter. This is book 12 in the series and being a fan of the author I should know what to expect, although the author does know how to throw in a few twists and one of the nice things is each book is a stand alone story so you don't need to listen to them in order. Once again the author has created some good characters and an interesting mystery, it kind on makes you want to visit a carnival just to watch the dunk tank, well apart from the kills.I When a summer carnival comes to town Bridgid and husband Linc offer to run the chill stand as well as putting up a celebrity in there B&B. The Celebrity wants to do a piece on the town and in particular the B&B. It seems not everyone is so star struck with the travel show host as he is found with a balloon code wrapped around his neck. The murder was a murder of opportunity but just who in town would want to kill him. With lots of tourist visiting the town just for the carnival Bridgid will have to eliminate suspects quickly if she wants to capture the killer before they leave town. The narrator was okay and the author has used her a number of times for her audio books so you have got that continuity but in my opinion some parts of the story sound flat, I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
There are just some people that just plain don't care about anyone but themselves. Micah was one such person. In order to get to the top he stepped on many feet and hurt many people.
Everyone was having a lovely day at the carnival that Missy, the preachers wife and Holly had put together. The entire town got involved and people from all over came. A lot of them came because they knew Micah, who would have his first TV show would be there. Four of them had been horribly hurt by him and really wanted to get back at him. But only one of them would end up murdering him.
Brigid and Linc were heading home when they spotted the body--the Sheriff wasn't far behind. Brigid and the Sheriff started immediately to try and find the murderer. But it took Jett, Brigid's large Newfoundland dog to ultimately tree the perpetrator!!
It was kind of hard for me to feel sorry for the murdered man--but justice has to be served one way or another! The chili recipe that Linc made to sell at the carnival sounds delicious--the recipe is at the end--even I may attempt to make this one!
I like this book! I am really enjoying getting to know all the characters more personally throughout each book. Team Jett! Lol. I also like that the Epilogues have follow-up with the suspects status. I often wonder what happened with So-and-So, but I understand that is irrelevant to most stories. These books are different in that way. :-) And the recipes at the end of each one! I am making the Apple cake tomorrow (recipe from one of the previous books) with a lemon glaze for the top (lemon glaze recipe is in the book Trouble at the New Dawn B & B). Guess I’ll leave an update once I get that baked!
The last book of the series. The storyline is good, I really like the characters. The ending for this was wrapped up too quickly. Ms Harman wrote this series differently by telling the reader who was to be murdered and how and then we go into the story which could be a week before the murder happened and present at least three suspects and the reason for them wanting to murder the person. It’s a different way of presenting the plot but I got used to it very quickly and can appreciate the presentation.
Murder at the Carnival (Cottonwood Springs Cozy Mystery #12), my sixth read/listen from author Dianne Harman and my first read & the twelfth book in the highly enjoyable Cottonwood Springs Cozy Mystery series. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Becky Boyd's excellent narration adds to an excellent book's enjoyment. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I always enjoy Dianne's books. They are quick and easy to follow. There are not lots of characters to keep track up, which is always nice when listening to a book. I enjoyed the narrator and they helped to make it an enjoyable book as always. The characters are fun. they can be standalone, but fun to read in order to follow along with the lives of the main series characters.
12th book in this Cottonwood Springs cozy mystery series takes place at the summer carnival. An up and coming online travel show host is found murdered in the parking lot - who did it? Several folks are likely suspects as they had grudges against him, and it will take Brigid and the sheriff diligent work to find the culprit.
I enjoy all of Dianne's series. I like the settings, the characters and the dogs. The Sheriff's grammar does annoy me. I like the characters so much in this series I will read all future books in this series.
