Something Like Love #3

I Like You, I Hate Her

Rate this book
Jo

I’m not bad; they just write me that way.
That’s what I tell myself—the lie I peddle in interviews.
If they want a bad girl, I can be their bad girl.
Their villain.

“Everyone loves a scandal. And you’re the queen of scandals..”

Years ago, I broke the heart of the biggest pop star in the world.
And then I became the Sexiest Man Alive’s biggest regret.
I am not that venomous girl anymore.
But I know a life-changing role when I see one.

“At his name, my heart stills. The man I hate and want.
The bane of my existence…”

Being Tristan Kane’s on-screen love interest will be good for my career.
And bad for my heart.
For him? I aim to devastate both.

Tristan

The world thinks it’s easy being the son of Hollywood royalty.
But they don’t know the burdens I wear.
Or the regrets in my chest—that all say her name.

“We will be nothing more than co-stars. Not friends. Not anything more...”

Loving Josephine Ouellette goes against my late father’s wishes.
Fits into my meddling manager’s plans.
And pisses my sister off.

“...forget the world, they can’t have this moment.
This is our story, and no one gets a say in it.”

But I’m tired of living in his shadow.
Living for their games.
I fell in love with a villain.
And no one loves harder than the scorned.

I’m terrible at reviews. Idk how I get so lucky to get arcs.

This book. THIS BOOK. I could cry over how much I loved it. Villains falling in love?! YES PLEASE. Jo from The Rebound has held space in my mind for years. All these books I’ve read since I met her and reading this was like no time had passed since then. Flawed. Guarded. Angry. Selfish. Survivor. Redeemable.

“I can’t be near her. When I’m near her, I want to look inside that head of hers. She has snakes in there. And the kind of venom you can become addicted to.”

This truly could be a standalone. I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t read the book with Tristan. Even without that book I never felt lost; though I did get lost in this story. Lost as in completely absorbed and irritated with every interruption. Tristan got wicked romantic at the end there.

The epilogues were perfection!! I love a good epilogue and this one had a very satisfying one!

Some stories are just about feels. All kinds of feels. Hard hitting and angsty. Soul deep and heartbreaking. Swoony with light of hope, redemption and fresh start. I Like You, I Hate Her by J.R. Rogue is one of those stories. So deep. So profound. So raw and open. A beautiful romance that will stay with me for ages.

Hollywood superstar Tristan Kane wants to make a movie from the book his father ( and also Hollywood royalty) loved. And the only heroine who can play the female lead is the one he doesn't want to face. Jo Ouellet has used the villainous reputation the world has slapped on her and she will never show how broken she is inside. Now they have to spend weeks in middle of nowhere in Missouri. Will their hate get converted into something else?
.
The thing I loved is how flawed and real the characters were. They are both celebrities and they both have issues. You can relate to them instantly. Jo had a difficult beginning to her life and she really never escaped the effects. She made a series of reckless decisions and the reason was her deep seated need to be loved..to feel something other than this darkness consuming her whole. She has been marked as the villain and she used that as her fuel. Tristan is the man who made her crave something beautiful years ago but their timing was wrong. Tristan is stuck in the expectations of his father and he is shackled to the ghost of the past. He wants to be spontaneous and uninhibited for the first time, not thinking about his career. Jo didn't forgive him easily as she put up the armour of anger, hatred, indifference and fierce resentment but those days shooting a difficult film gave them the chance to be someone else altogether, away from the gossip and the media. Tristan is charming and gorgeous and everything you want in your hero. But Jo is my real hero. I adore and respect this amazing woman so much. And I wanted her to be happy. Just happy. Without the tiring process of fighting the world. Without searching for validation in the wrong places. And I love Tristan for giving her that.

I Like You, I hate Her by J.R. Rogue was a complex kaleidoscope of emotions. It's not an easy love story. It's messy, sometimes toxic but finally, inspiring. It was worth all the heartache and tears.

Jo and Tristan have a past and it's not too pretty. He is Hollywood royalty and she is an actress who, as the public perceives, cheated with him and broke up his relationship with his girlfriend, a famous author. Although not entirely true, there's enough of the truth that it has made her into a villain. Now slated to star in another movie, they both have to come to terms with where they are now in their "friendship." Jo says over and over how she hates him and it pains Tristan to hear her say it, knowing she's being honest. The truth is, he didn't regret the time he kissed her in front of the cameras, but was hurt by the venom she spewed about him in her public appearances. As they shot the movie, there was tension in spades, and believable passion that made for a powerful movie. Perhaps the feelings they shared during production can transfer into their private lives. It's not easy, but they finally work through all the noise and angst that holds them back. He softens her rough edges and she helps him find his best self. It's a wonderful story, a beautiful HEA with a perfect epilogue!

I Like You, I Hate Her is an emotional, second chance, Hollywood romance full of angst, chemistry and passion. I really enjoyed this book!! I felt so much for these characters. J.R. Rogue masterfully took these two flawed people - who were villains in other's stories - and made them relatable and worthy of love. I found myself rooting heavily for Jo and Tristan to find their peace and to become the people they want to be. Praying the entire time, they found their way to each other. They're just so good together.

I had a soft spot for Jo, especially. Yes, she made mistakes. Yes, she could be a little cold. But, she's not a bad person. It hurt my heart to see the evil she endured in her previous relationships.

I Like You, I Hate Her was my first book by J.R. Rogue and I'm so impressed. The way her words flowed so effortlessly and elicited emotions, I know it won't be my last.

Listen to me:
If you haven't read a J.R. Rogue novel, you are doing yourself a GREAT disservice. Quit depriving yourself of immaculate storytelling and thank me once you do.
Jen's ability to write a story that pits two villains against one another and have us rooting for them is enough to make me want to weep. This isn't something most writers can accomplish. Add that in with the complexity of the world she's been able to build, crossing over her major series through secondary, once periphery characters.
You may know Jo, and you may know Tristan. But I promise you don't know them like this.
I Like You, I Hate Her is a top Rogue novel.
And I am in LOVE with Jo.

AMAZING
A great story with undeniable chemistry, amazing banter and an array of emotions that give you all the feels and endless intrigue to keep the pages turning and the heart beating throughout the relentless pain and turmoil that plagued the suspense filled pages. A great addition to this series that I enjoyed very much and as always looking forward to read more of this talented writer's future work.

Book three in the series follows Tristan and Jo's romance. The author brings all the feels in this emotional story. She pulled me in with the suspense along with the romance. They have a hot chemistry and I loved their banter. It's well written, moves fluidly with perfectly painted scenes and is a great read. I loved the epilogue and this book. Highly recommend reading.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

This is an emotional, angsty enemies to lovers story that I adored. Tristan and Jo have sizzling chemistry, witty banter and so much emotional baggage. This story is well written, riveting and well worth the read. Highly recommend.

🎬4.5 STARS🎬

This is such a beautifully written story.
It is written with subtlety that I feel served the story and the mood really well, it touches on a lot of serious issues and emotions, yet it doesn’t feel too heavy or drab. I think the writing style is so impressive because of this.
The book focuses on emotional damage quite a bit. The many ways it impacts the characters feelings and behavior.
The main characters are very different types of people.
Jo embraces the cold, calculating, bad girl image that has become public perception of her. She plays the part. She’s not well liked, but she happens to be a great actress.
She hides behind the image people have of her. She’s a very emotionally traumatized and sensitive person underneath. Chaos and turmoil have been her normal life, she doesn’t know a different way.
Tristan is a second generation British actor who’s well respected and loved. He lives in the shadow of what his father expected of him and is living a life his father would deem appropriate.
He’s been subtly controlled/guided in his decisions both in his career and personal life.
Jo and Tristan first met at very different places in their lives emotionally. Their time together on the set of a movie was a pivotal point for both, it ended up being publicly messy and left emotional scars for both. Jo took the brunt of the public’s judgment.
~The story starts as they are on set of another movie together a few years later. There’s a lot of anticipation and nerves for them both. Feelings are bubbling up, they are in different places in their lives than they were when they knew each other previously.

I love the easy pace, the time given to the characters emotions, both past and present.
I think the conversations with the main characters and with secondary characters seemed so natural and realistic.
A lot of the conversations that Jo and Tristan have with friends, coworkers and family helps them set the their emotional journey’s in motion.
They both are in a transitional phases of their lives.
A lot of important realizations come from them being around each other again. It forces them to face a lot of hard truths.
It has some flashback chapters that give important insight into the characters both separately and their past together.
It’s a very emotional and thoughtful story.
I liked both characters and was hopeful for their futures.
There was a promise of hope for the characters throughout for me. They both showed promise of growth and self realization.
~I love the true feelings that Tristan and Jo have for each other! They are very beautiful and unique characters.
I was so enamored with the writing, the characters and the story!
I will note it’s not high on the sexy scale, honestly the story was so good I didn’t notice until I had finished the book. NOT to say this isn’t a romance, there is chemistry, longing and sex. It’s just not central.
I loved it! I’m so excited to have discovered this new to me author. I really love her style.

This is a brand-new author for me, but it is also third in a series about characters within the same world. I was told it's a standalone and it really was a book that stands alone though it's the third in the series. I never felt lost reading it or that I missed anything by only reading this book

Honestly Jo is what we call a hot mess. Her life is extremely messy. Some of the history I didn't always understand because it dealt with characters from other books (maybe). Jo was crucified in the media in the past when she did not deserve that and so she HATES Tristan, and he HATES her for creating those feelings inside his heart and soul.

This is their second chance at love, and they have to see past their hate for each other and decide if they can let each other in and trust each other. Because of their messy past they have lots of stumbling blocks from meddling sisters to exes and agents.

It was a really extremely well told story with a complicated back history. I really loved Jo so much. I love that she really grows in this book and changes so much. At times I did not love Tristan because he blamed her a lot for his short comings, and he at least admitted to that. She was a very strong woman but also an extremely broken and lonely one but also one who has no friends. Tristan had everything, a good family, money, adulation and yet he didn't really feel happy, and he had no idea what would make him happy. Throughout the book he has to figure out what would make him happy and if he has the guts to go after it. This made for an absolute riveting story, and I could not put it down. I was heartbreaking awesome, and I loved every minute of it.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

J.R. Rogue is back with a vengeance in this distinctive original compelling and intoxicating look into the glamours world of Hollywood

It has been a while since J. R. Rogue has published a book and she has bounced back by producing an extremely insightful, yet gut-wrenching emotional story with I Like You, I Hate Her, it really says it all in the title, you being Jo, the woman that the spotlight doesn't see, the girl who really deep down just wants to be loved, who wasn't to breath without the world writing about it, but that girl is buried so far down inside her that Jo has become the girl that everyone hates, she is the classic Hollywood, diva, she destroys relationships and everyone is just waiting to find out what the next piece of gossip will be so they can hate her a little more, and most of the hatred is down to the belief that Jo a couple of years ago broke up the relationship of British Heartthrob Tristan and his writer girlfriend, some truth in it, maybe, full truth not quite, but once a villain always a villain. Now the pair are back together and the sparks fly from the start. But our heartthrob has his own issues that are deep-rooted that rear there heard from time to time. This is what makes this story so unique, it is filled with gems of emotions from both Jo and Tristan, this is a book filled with heartache, missed opportunities but a chance to finally be the person that you were born to be not the one that some artificial created of you.

The mere mention of the name Tristan Kane and her traitorous heart starts beating wildly, even though her head tries to maintain her distaste for him. He is the guy she wants, but despises at the same time.

To everyone around him Josephine Ouellette is a villain, a women who will only break his heart and bring him unnecessary bad press again. But he doesn't seem to care what they have to say about her.

Nothing will draw your eyes to the pages like drama, and these two seem to be masters at it. From start to finish they kept me fully engaged and feeling like I was privy to all their deep dark secrets. They had a past, one that broke both their hearts and landed them on the front page of all the tabloids. They shared a kiss that put an end to Tristian's relationship and helped Jo acquire a reputation as the villainess of Hollywood. But what you didn't see is the pain that is caused both of them, the pain that they don't want to admit exists. They haven't seen each other since the day their lives both unraveled because of that kiss... but that is about to change, as they have both been cast in the same movie. And it's certain to not be a happy reunion!

The pages of I Like You, I Hate Her have everything you could want in a love story. The angst will torture you, the drama will entertain you, the passionate moments will make you blush, and the sweeter moments will make your heart skip a beat! It's a can't miss story!! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Jo Ouellet has been painted with the villainous brush in the media despite the fact that there's a lot more to the story. However, she's not going to let them see the real girl inside which made me quite sad to be honest. Tristan Kane is a Hollywood superstar, who is determined to make a movie out of the book his father (Hollywood royalty) loved, and Jo is the only girl who can play the female lead despite the fact that these two have a serious past. See, she got her rep because of him when something happened that was made into a bigger deal, and Tristan definitely wasn't a real man at that point since he wouldn't own up to his part. Now they're going to quite a bit of time at a very remote location so what could possibly go wrong?! I really loved this story despite my irritation at Tristan on more than one occasion since he was playing the victim in all of it. Can they actually put the past to rest before it finally destroys them?! You know what to do to find out as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

What happens when you feel you just can’t fight anymore, your feelings, your life, the ones in your life you love to fight with the most?

Jo and Tristan’s tale is one we think we know, they are people we almost love to hate or love them for their faults already. They have instant chemistry from the the beginning and years of animosity between them, truly fighting their feelings for each other. It’s a push-pull of watching two people finally realizing life is worth taking chances, that being labeled the villain was what you needed to get where you are going.

Jen’s telling the story of how Jo and Tristian finally allowed themself to be honest with themselves so that they can see everyone deserves a happy ending. The story of how you reach that happy is filled with so much turmoil and so much doubt that you never opened fully realized you were living in your own shadows. This book is about coming from the shadows brighter than ever before.

This book was pure poetry! The words and story are written in such a way that I was swept up and utterly consumed from the very beginning. For some reason I thought it was going to be a little more lighthearted than what it was, but it was intense in all of the best ways. I loved the story and the connection between Jo and Tristan. These two have a complicated history and it was just heartbreaking to read about all of it. I don't want to go into too many details because I loved going into it blind (other than the blurb) and seeing how everything unfolded. It was heart wrenchingly beautiful and the connection between the two is undeniable but with the weight of the world between them. I highly recommend that you read this ASAP!

PS: Thank you to JR Rogue and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly.

I'm sure we've all heard the saying "We're all villains in someone else's story".

Tristan and Jo were introduced to us as villains in previous stories, we loved to hate them, but Rogue has done a stellar job in writing these flawed characters in a way that makes us fall head over heels.

Tristan and Jo are both recovering from their sordid past, filled with betrayal, cheating and so much pain. When they are thrust back together to work on a new movie, everything becomes explosive and the result is this beautiful story.

I could not put this book down, I read it in a few hours and I kept wanting more and more. I believe it takes a really good writer to write a loveable villain, and Rogue has done that!

This is book three in The Something Like Love Series and it is Tristan and Jo's story and it is a must read. Tristan and Jo have both been through so much and even though I think that they are perfect together they have so much baggage but now they have to work together to film a movie so will they be able to do that after all they really don't like each other or do they. There are twists and turns along with situations that keep you turning the pages to see what the outcome will be and I couldn't put this book down. This is the first book that I have read by J. R. Rogue but definitely not the last as it was so well written and definitely worth reading.

I Like You, I Hate Her by J.R. Rogue. It’s so easy to dislike someone when you have no idea what is going on behind the scenes or in their minds. The villain is not always the bad person, many times its just easy for them to make you feel this way. This story grabbed hold of me, held me captive, and greedily hoping for redemption and a HEA. The author does a great job keeping you vested in the story and outcomes. This book is filled with plenty of drama, heat, and emotion. I would recommend this book and author to others. After reading The Rebound, Jo was someone who was unredeemable and unlikable yet J.R. spun her magic to make this character become a person through a dark and messed up journey. Tristan's mark is made on her early on when they meet but not without obstacles and mistakes made. Their broken story only intensifies feelings when they meet again on the set of a new film. Their past is never forgotten and their present seems unsalvageable but the story is one to devour. Never has a book title been more fitting and accurate as you realize you feel exactly the same.

This was my first book by JR Rogue and I dont know how I have lived without reading her books!!!

Tristan and Jo are the villains in the books before this one(that I went back and read) and I have always been a sucker for a villain!!

Jo and Tristian are thrown back together to be in a new movie together, and the chemistry is off the charts!! They are both working on moving on from their pasts and want to better themselves.

This story is beautiful, intense and the push/pull, love/hate will keep you turning pages wanting to know what happens next. I cant wait to read more from this author!!!

This book will give you all the feels! It was angsty, and soul-searchingly raw. I don’t read many books like this because I get into a book hangover and this was no exception. It takes true talent to make you feel so much that you have to say PHEW. Tristan was the villain of his “true love” story and Jo was the villain of hers. When these two are forced to be together, they are also forced to face the underlying issues that plague them. At times, it was messy, raw and it felt like these two shouldn’t be together. But, fighting your demons is like that— and worth it for true happiness and a happy ending.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes being rich, famous, does not mean happiness abounds! This is the case for Jo and Tristan!

The lights are shown down on you and the paparazzi capture, if possible, your every move!

When a kiss is caught on camera…both people's worlds come crashing down. A single kiss!

The mains have so many issues, when they're cast in the same movie, you know sparks will fly!

This new to me author's story delighted me! Not light-hearted, but angsty, sexy, and one you hoped would end in an HEA!

I will definitely read other books by this author, in fact, I'm checking her list out now!

I went into I Like You, I Hate Her without having read Burning Muses and The Rebound, so I’ll preface this by saying J.R. Rogue did a phenomenal job giving just enough back story that I wasn’t lost. You can definitely fall into the pages of this story as a stand-alone and I can’t wait to read Burning Muses and The Rebound!

I LOVED this book. Right away I was pulled into Jo’s pain and anger and Tristan’s crushing weight of his late fathers expectations. This story was full of redemption and passion, and so beautifully paced. The epilogue was utter perfection!

Not many authors have the ability (or inspiration) to take the villains from two prior books and bring them together in an epic, emotional love story. That’s exactly what J. R. Rogue has done here. I must admit, I didn’t think she'd pull it off but she did and it’s spectacular. While you can read this as a stand alone, don’t. Read Burning Muses and The Rebound first so you can appreciate just how far Tristan and Jo come and overcome. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Talk about intense! The love/hate the is played throughout the storyline kept me flipping the pages wanting the answers to will they or not. Both characters have their ups and down with all the pressure of the acting world. He is Hollywood royalty and she is wanting to better herself. I loved that we get both the past and present in the story but what will have you waiting for is will they find their HEA. You will need to one click to find out in this newest release that doesn’t disappoint.

This is yet another amazing read by J.R. Rogue. Please read anything J.R. Rogue has written and you'll be blown away. Her writing style is so different than any other author I've ever read and I mean that in the best way possible. Ms. Rogue has this ability to create these amazing characters that you love to hate and then she twist them into something even more beautiful than you can imagine. Jo and Tristan are definitely two of those characters. You won't be sorry reading this story and although both characters are introduced in previous writings I felt this works as a standalone.

I loved it. Jen’s writing is so different from others. It’s a type of different that I get excited to read.

These two characters might be unlikable to some— but I loved them together. I loved their circumstances and banter and I loved the situations that Jen put them in. Seeing them interact together was the best part of the book.

Jen doesn’t write your typical romances and for that reason alone— I’m a forever fan. It’s not cheesy or over done. It’s practical and real and genuine.

Jo has a troubled past romantically, cheating, abuse, you name it. Then it come time to film a movie in the middle of nowhere with the one guy she can't stand. Or can she? After all, wasn't he the one who saved her from her abuser?

This story follows Jo's troubled past and lets the reader see how her past influences her actions. J.R. Rogue is a master of dark emotions and she delivers once more with this amazing addition.
