Yu Sui and Shi Luo met each other when they were much younger. One was a pro-gamer, a widely-renowned, best of the best, in-game medic. The other was an e-sports newcomer who was just starting out. The two originally played for the same team, during which their relationship became increasingly deep.

But things did not go as expected. Yu Sui went to Europe and Shi Luo changed his in-game job to become a striker. The two belonged to different teams and different divisions, with oceans between them, each doing wonderfully …

They had become two tigers on separate mountains. The last thing anyone expected was for Yu Sui to return to the domestic league two years later. There was no way to avoid it and the two met once again.

I just want to mention that the side account incident will probably be in the top 5 most cringey secondhand embarrassment incidents I have ever read about lmao.

I’m soooo glad I gave this a try! I originally read one chapter and put it down because I overindulged on esport novels and thought this would be just alright. No, no I loved this. Angsty, but mostly sweet and hilarious. A great cast of characters and a romance that felt natural. I’m so happy I read this.

I loved this novel so much that I'm not ready to move on. Thank you, author, for this amazing work. Every tear was worth it, and I assure you there was a lot of crying on my part.

Such a beautiful love story deserves more recognition. I got flashbacks of "I can do it" (another wonderful story), especially with the MC's attitude, but at the same time, Evil wasn't like any other character I have ever read. Flawed characters are my kryptonite, and Evil is a cunning, bad-mouthed, and jealous bastard, with a heart of gold, a sad past, and too many insecurities to count. I fell in love with him pretty quickly, to be honest. His petty behaviors were endearing in my eyes 🥺.

The romance was the main focus of the book but the gaming competitions were still exciting to read.

The relationship between Evil and Whisper broke my standards. GREEN FLAGS EVERYWHERE! THEY ARE PURE RELATIONSHIP #GOALS 😭. It is so good to read about healthy and achievable relationships. I'm glad I came across this book. I totally recommend this!!

DNF at ch. 67 (49%).

I was expecting to like this book, since I love a similar book, ICDI. Unfortunately, FOG is bogged down by too much info dump and dreary writing.

The story behind Yu Sui’s departure to Germany was interesting, and afterwards things picked up a bit, but I’m not so impressed with Shi Luo’s childishness, and the romance so far is pretty bland for me, so I guess it’s time for me to drop this.

Overall, the book isn’t that bad, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best I’ve read

As much as I love romance in esports books, I also love the esports part of it, I kind of find it a little lacking in the game aspect. It’s totally not the author’s fault, since I know this book has a totally different game from the usual 5v5 MOBA game that is in other books, it’s harder to write about the games in this book as there is no mid lane, jungle, etc. and there are no different characters in the game. I guess it’s just a personal preference, I really love 5v5 MOBA and I’ve only read esports books related to it, this book is quite a new cup of tea for me and it simply isn’t for me I guess, I love seeing different characters in game work together, their skills and everything.

The romance is cute and all, with Shi Luo and Yu Sui, I did find it a little boring to just be reading about the character’s interaction with barely anything about the game or the competition, which kind of put me a little reading slump, whenever the book gets kind of boring, it just happens. It’s okay, the end part made up for all the flaws in this book, as the game vs sacred sword? (I think) is pretty interesting, the last extra was also very cute with the way Yu Sui and Shi Luo both posted their announcement in sweet wordings, I screamed hahahah

Overall, it’s a good read, everything in this book is very new to me, from the angst at the start (I had trouble getting through it), a totally different game, and different focuses, most esports novels I read focus on the games but this one focus mostly on the relationship between characters which is pretty okay, still, not really my cup of tea, please do give it a try though, it’s pretty amazing :)

This book took me by surprise because I didn’t anticipate that I would fall in love with it so wholeheartedly: I loved the characters, the game (Fog) they played with all the amazing fight scenes we got, the team dynamics (the manager was such a precious bean), everyone’s social media interactions and these two’s (Shi Luo and Yu Sui’s) love story. It gripped me right from the start and for days I lamented that I didn’t have enough time to finish this book. LOL

I could wax poetic about our MC and ML and how they showed their love for each other or admire how much the author made me hurt over each revealed snippet of their not so easy pasts or be mind-boggled by how much I laughed while reading this book. It was a feast from start to finish. I will definitely check out if Man Man He Qi Duo wrote more books.

P.S.: The fan translation wasn’t perfect but the translator captured the story’s essence perfectly. I’m very grateful for their hard work!

P.P.S.: If this book gets an official English translation, I’ll be so happy!

5⭐

Amo especialmente a Puppy y a Yu Sui.

I FEEL WEAK AS FUCK WHAT CAN I EVEN SAY OTHER THAN AKDHAKSIODJWNEODJAODJSKXJOSHDIZJSVDOJSEHKS?????!!!!!! LET ME KEYBOARD SMASH MY FEELINGS AWAY PLE. A A AASE.

Update:
alright. i've calmed down, i swear. i think this is the first e-sport danmei i've ever read, so it took me a while to get used to the rhythm of the story since the main focus takes place on the game itself. these characters play this game professionally, that means 99% of the book is about them practicing the game for 10+ hours a day with no day off which is insane to me and doesn't sound like a fun career to have but what do i know.
i really love found family trope and this book has that. the forming of team 'free' after they endured years of hardship and the fact that their name is 'free' is just so touching to me. the relationship between yu sui and shi luo is so so so important. i love that yu sui is just so clear from the get go that he likes shi luo, but for yearsssss he had no idea that shi luo was gay and everytime yu sui had a stomachache, shi luo would just offer him hot water and he despaired over this behavior because apparently offering hot water is a certified straight guy move lmao. he really thought there was no hope and then the incident happened and they all got separated for two years. when yu sui returned to china, the situation was just not great for them. however, slowly the issue got smoothened out because they are surprisingly so fucking good at communication and they formed their own team. from then on they got closer again and this time yu sui is just openly and shamelessly courting shi luo shfjdlhskjldf. yu sui is so gentle to shi luo and shi luo thought his 'scheming' towards yu sui was smooth as hell, but of course yu sui noticed it. he really said 'from the people i don't like, this is called scheming. from a person that i like, this is called acting spoiled' *high pitched screaming noise*. THEY!
there are so many cute moments from them, i just love this kind of relationship where they just care so much for each other and they would do the small act of service for their partner. shi luo is a cry baby but also my anger management issue king. he would go to war for his boyfriend and yu sui is the nonchalant one but if you provoke his cute little bf he would end your career.
another part of the book that i really enjoy is their interaction with their fans as well. i'm a cp fan and if these two were real i would also be losing my shit over their interactions.
the matter of the side account lmao honestly from an adult perspective yeah cringe, but i was a teenager once, i get it. and shi luo IS a teen!! he might act all cool and nonchalant but on the inside his knees go weak for his boyfriend every 2 seconds because his boyfriend is just too good at flirting and being a bf!!! he has to channel that feelings somewhere! let him live! yu sui is so good, bro. let me give you a sample of their dynamic:

Shi Luo: "If i get into a relationship with you, if we break up, it wont be easy for me to ever be interested in anyone in the future. did you see it at the time and treated me like this on purpose, making me..."
Yu Sui: "Making you what? shi luo, making you what?"
Shi Luo: "Making me like you so much my heart hurts. i cant wait to give you my life so that i will never be apart from you again..."
Yu Sui: "Yes i did it on purpose."
"I purposely... made you feel that you could never bear to be separated from me forever."
AHHHH. AHHH?!!!!

the last 5 chapters (+the extras) were so fucking good, i thought i was gonna give this book a 3 stars but the rating just kept going up after that ending. it was so gratifying, i love it when the scummy common enemy got defeated and publicly humiliated. i like that shit! ! !

thought about giving it 3 stars to save some face but i felt bad for my 3 star reads which were honestly better than this lol

i've been putting off reading this for months, i should have just trusted my gut feeling. sigh, initially i was going to say the romance was the weakest point of this novel but then it turns out, it was just... overall a pretty meh read. the plot was bare minimum, predictable and too linear with each and every single development. the initial 400 or so pages were pretty intense and mildly intriguing to read but after the reconciliation point, everything mellows out and is just so boring i just wanted to put the novel down but unfortunately i had already invested enough time and i need to complete my reading challenge.

but anyways i dont understand based on which aspect people put this novel on such a high pedestal, the characters were boring, gameplay was barely there, team dynamics were too stilted and the ending was incredibly boring, stiff, predictable and anti-climatic. like id like to use every word present in the dictionary with adjacent meaning to the predictable and boring.

This is undeniably one of my favourite modern danmei novels that I've read this year. I just have so much love for it and the characters. And there's also the found family trope in this one, which makes it super wholesome.

Shi Luo (MC) and Yu Sui (ML) are too f-ing cute okay. Like I couldn't stop myself from smiling like an idiot at my screen while reading. I especially love (I mean, LOVE) slag man Yu and personally, I think he's one of the best MLs in danmei. Is there a more perfect boyfriend than YS? Damn it, here comes my unrealistic expectations that can only be met by fictional men. 😭 They are both so precious and they like each other so much that every action they take is in consideration for the other person. Ugh, these two are made for each other.

Anyway, even though the characters are at most in their early twenties, all of them have gone through some really tough times and as a result of that, they've also grown closer together and regard each other as family. The found family trope in this one seriously tugged at my heartstrings and also made me laugh a lot because they aren't the sappy type of characters and instead, the kind that annoy each other for fun. I love the side characters and I really enjoyed reading their character development, especially Chen Huo, Puppy, Wawa and even Zhou Huo.

Also, because this is an e-sports novel there's obviously elements of teamwork and sportsmanship and I haven't been so moved by any other e-sports danmei novel as I have been by FOG. What I'm saying is although I probably enjoyed reading other danmei novels in this genre, none of them have made me tear up, laugh out loud and be inspired like this.

This novel was great. I finished reading it in two days while i also had work; i just couldn't put it down.
The main focus is on the characters, especially the mc and ml, but the supporting characters are great here, with distinct motivations, personalities and pasts. The relationships are believable and doesn't feel forced, no one just suddenly friends with one other. The found family trope is written wonderfully here.
The game itself isn't the focus, it's clearly here to drive the plot AND give characterization. It's wonderful at that, but not ideal if you are looking for a deep and technical "game design".

FINISHED 😭🙏

it took me wayyyyyy too long to finish this lmao, but in my defense i had a master's project that got in the way so 🤷‍♀

this was good! it focuses a lot on the characters, and i felt that the entire ensemble cast was well-developed. my one criticism is that it felt a bit rushed after ch90, the whole plot progression suddenly picked up speed and the entire world championship arc was over very quickly compared to the slow build-up beforehand.

I sort of browsed through the whole review of this book before I read it, and the reviews were divided Into multiple parts, there were some that said the game wasn't much in it, and I was like oof, as someone who likes eSport Danmei to be dominated by half the game, I was so conflicted, but thanks heaven I read it.

FOG isn't all that about gaming(omg, have re-read and am editing my review, it is indeed about gaming alot, after re-reading I realized half of FOG is the E-sport, what was I thinking the first time i wrote my review?)the gaming percentage shown in this book is sort of like 25%(no, it was genuinely like 60%) unlike other e-sport Danmei that has almost 60% of game(FOG too is e-sport dominated),but let me tell you, when they begin explaining certain things about the game, I always love it, I don't care if you guys use less time to play and more time to explain, it's still awesome, cause it was well detailed and amazing to follow, I had to read some places twice/thrice before I could grasp what was being said there, my brain was working full-time! Also the team commaderie shown in FOG was so great it made up for the shortcomings of the lack of much gameplay, and the angsty shown in it, I love it was packed with plot, I mean i did read for the game but it was a little better, it wasn't all that lovey dovey, but it was still lovey dovey.
I love how raw each of their emotions were, it was spectacular and sometimes I wish I could just keep reading about the characters and ignore the gameplay, that was rare coming from me, cause I absolutely read e-sport Danmei for their "E-sport".
But at the end of the day FOG was good to read, the game was different from the normal ones, not playing LOL this time around, and no Midlane, Support, ADC or toplane and stuff, it's just chill, and If the game FOG was made for the plot of this story alone, I'd be impressed, it was flawless!! 7.8/10 for that! I love FOG.
And I want more people to read it regardless of if the gameplay is little to the normal ones, it's not that bad, and also there are a lot of angst in this so it fills up quite some space!

I was super excited to come across this book, as I love a good e-sports story, and I wasn't disappointed. Loved not just Yu Sui and Shi Luo but all of Team Free! It's a good mix of romance but also e-sports as well. I don't know if professional e-sports players really train as much as Free does in the story, but man it's way more intense than a regular 8-5 job.

**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**

The initial 30 chapters were a bit tough to read, since we only hear Shi Luo's side of the story about how he was sold to NSN by Yu Sui, who abandoned the Chinese league for the European league. But when the whole story comes out and we learn about how despicable Ji Yanhan was, to be able to sell off the whole team to pay off his girlfriend's family's debts, you can't help but feel sorry for Yu Sui. He was only 19 when he was traded off to Sacred Sword like cattle, and had to shoulder an entire nation's worth of hate on top of it. The chapters when the truth came out and all the haters finally shut up and stopped spraying YS felt so satisfying to read.

I enjoyed the story a lot more after SL joins Team Free and YS and SL are able to interact more. Understandably their initial relationship after 2 years apart is very complicated and they're a bit awkward around each other, but I enjoyed watching their relationship slowly mend and they get closer again. I definitely awwww'd when SL admitted to scheming to get YS's attention, and YS's response was that for other people they'd be considered schemes, but when it's done by the person he likes, he's totally willing to go along with it. Or when YS plays as a milk tank for only SL and doesn't care when Chen Huo, the other striker, calls him out on never doing it for him XP

There were so many cute moments leading up to when they got together and especially afterwards, when YS proves that he's not really a slag man but the most considerate boyfriend ever. For example, YS talks about the early days of how he met SL on his live chat to shut up all the sprayers who accused SL of taking advantage of him. And how can we forget about SL's side account?! What an embarrassing moment for SL when he realized YS knew his side account XP Plus I'm just dying whenever I imagine SL, who has this cool and wild image, writing the sappiest stuff on his side account for the whole world to see... No wonder YS is so adamant that the side account doesn't get deleted. Oh SL, why are you so adorable?!

The romance sort of takes a back seat in the last arc, when Team Free goes to the World Championships and Sacred Sword, YS's previous team, stirs up all kind of trouble. I really hope there's not a team like this in real life, since they were viciously putting down every other major team before the matches even started. I thought the author wrote them to be a little too extreme, especially when they purposefully lost to increase their chances of meeting Free in the quarterfinals. But hey, I will admit, it did feel incredibly vindicating to see Free steamroll them 3-0 in the quarterfinals and to watch every single member of Sacred Sword delete their account afterwards.

The last very side story, where YS and SL finally come out and SL finally acknowledges that the embarrassing side account is his, was super sweet, and a great way to end the story.

I went down the rabbit hole on the hunt for another esport novel and I stumbled upon FOG.

The series takes place featuring the MC, Shi Lou (Gamer ID: Evil) who found out of Yu Sui, the ML (Gamer ID: Whisper) recent return to China after his unexpected stint in Europe for 2 years and also known to be the top Medic in the league. Prior to the current status, they met 2 years ago, when Shi Lou was still a very small time streamer who ran away from home and Yu Sui was a well known professional player. But unexpected circumstances forced Yu Sui to leave China and Shi Lou never forgave Yu Sui for leaving him behind.

The game featured here is “Within The Fog” a 4 vs 4 game comprising 2 strikers, 1 medic and 1 sniper. The goal of the game is to clear the poison fog to reach the opposing team’s side and leave your opponents no way to hide. The game ends when the team kills the opponents and destroys their resurrection stone. While the game is featured extensively, it does not take away from the main plot of the book but adds to it.

This book started off as one emotional roller coaster ride from their unexpected meeting to their past history explained which is probably the first 30 chapters. Once you get past that, the series turns unexpectedly sweet and fluffy especially with Shi Lou and Yu Sui’s interactions. The second hand embarrassment is epically funny here with the discovery of Shi Lou’s online journal noting his feelings for Yu Sui and his fans unexpectedly stumbling on it! Shi Lou being the youngest one can be such a brat but a lovable one, his determination and ethics as a professional gamer so commendable for such a young age. Yu Sui, on the other hand, is the doting and perfect ML, almost too perfect at times (Very rich, doting and sweet - like how can you not love him?!!) Not that I am complaining…lol! The doting comes from the MC enduring the hardships on his own and ML just indulging him. (kinda like LWJ to WY in MDZS) I mean ML even change his playstyle to accommodate the MC at times and as an ex-gamer, that is mega loveeeeee~!

|”the scheming of people who he didn’t like was ‘scheming’. Scheming by the person he liked was called ‘acting spoiled’ “|

I also love the supporting characters from their manager, their coach and their two teammates! You can feel the joy, pain and hardships they went through to get to the stage of being back together as a team. Note that this book also touches on cyberbullying which itself is a hard topic at times. The series also covers the glory and the hardships of a professional gamer and the politics behind the scenes especially when so much money is involved. I also love their water/online fans support throughout their whole journey and also the camaraderie between other competitive domestic players - it shows great sportsmanship and respect they have even though they compete in different teams.

Overall, I did enjoy it very much and I’ll have to go back to re-reading ‘I Can Do It’ to compare which is my fav!

Look. I you told me one day I'd find the ingame equivelent of a boyfriend giving you their hoodie to be cute or endearing I'd probably laugh because damn thats a new type of low. Low and behold, slag man yu and his slag man mouth. BEING EXCLUSIVELY LUO LUO'S MILKTANK. F*CK IF THAT ISNT CUTE I DONT KNOW WHAT IS. (man that really is a new type of low.) THE ENDING. YOU- YU GE YOURE REALLY TOO MUCH FOR MY WEAK HEART OKAY? QWQ

anyways back to normal business. The MC Shi Luo (or as i call him Luo Luo) is really really damn likeable. character development, his personality, how he interacts with his (found) family? simply way too fun to read.

next up, slag man yu. The ML whose actual name is Yu Sui but i refuse to use it because calling him by nicknames is way funner. YOU- MY HEART- HE'S SO ENDEARING TO LUO LUO AND FOR WHAT.

THE TEAM MATES. their not actually given real names and are mostly referred to using their ingame names or nicknames but gosh darn do i love them. PUPPY, CHEN HUO, LAO QIAO, EVEN WAWA WHOSE NOT EVEN ON THE SAME TEAM.

mm the only "problem" that i have with it is that theres really no conclusive ending to whatever is happening with Luo Luo's family. obviously its not really important and the book is fine without it. i was just kinda expecting a public execution of some sort to deal with them.

OH SPEAKING (typing?) OF PUBLIC EXECUTIONS

anyway 5/5 its not the first esports danmei I've read and it probably will not be the last but damn was it good. one of the less boring ones too since they didnt go too indept about the games. Long winded game explanations of matches get really tedious to read after awhile. the book did a good job at managing that.

This is my first e-sports danmei to read and I was not disappointed at all! I'd even say this is my favourite modern danmei up-to-date!

First of all, I am not into e-sports and obviously there were terminologies and game scenarios which were hard for me to understand. However, this did not made me not understand the progress of the games, the practice matches and most especially the competition.

Second, I liked the dynamics of team Free. The camaraderie of each team members, Puppy, Chen Huo, Yu Sui, Shi Lu, plus Old Qian and manager Zhou was something I have loved and I honestly never knew I would love their relationship so much! There is bickering between their members, so much 'spraying', but they do love and respect each other so much. And they do have that much love for e-sports. There were times where I could not help but cry when so much passion was shown into their games. It was so beautifully written.

Lastly, it would not be possible not to talk about Yu Sui and Shi Luo's relationship. Strangers to friends to enemies to lovers. What a trope!! My kind of trope LOL. The tension between the two when they reunited, the scenes and exchange when they were trying to be at peace with each other, to slowly gaining Shi Luo's trust again, to Yu Sui's showing his attention to him again. When they got together, they learned how to communicate with each other, to talk things out, their love languages are top tier too!!! One of the greenest relationships I have ever read!!!

I also loved the fact that besides having the romance trope, it just did not revolve around them but also about friendship, not only between Free members but also the other teams!!!

I think the only thing I wished was they did extend the Final Championship part, or like more extra chapters?

But overall, I loved loved the whole novel.

“When you’re with me, you can act as shameless as you want.”

This book made me feel so immersed into their world. Experiencing their pain, them gaining trust in relationships again, their relationships evolving and so on.
The relationship Shi Lou and Yu Sui is so precious. The respect and true appreciation they have for each other is admirable.
After finishing this book I reflected on some of my favourite parts:
- Shi Lou challenging Yu Sui to drink one full cup of the lemon drink on a plate full of 10 drinks, with the rest being alcohol. But lou lou wouldn’t dare risk Yu Sui’s stomach issues and had all 10 drinks filled with the lemon drink and alcohol over the tray to create the illusion of alcohol in the cup. THEN the replication of the 10 drinks to the 10 black boxes at the end of the novel, filled with gifts and a new contract for Shi Lou for Yu Sui. Yu Sui also took the pressure off of Shi Lou’s shoulders posting the announcement for him, I couldn’t handle his beautiful gesture of love.
- Shi Lou talking to Yu Sui in the courtyard of their base, admitting his feelings and letting his emotions loose.
- the back story of how Yu Sui scouted Shi Lou
- Shi Lou listening to a recording he made of Yu Sui’s voice from voice chats from when he first started playing with him under his alias up to before he left for Germany (if I remember correctly).
- the cringey side account confessions. So cute but omg died from secondhand embarrassment a hand full of times

There are many more but this is what stood out to me the most to remember right now.

Although it felt dragged on at times, I always got invested in the game play and conversations after a minute or two.

Honestly wish there was another 1450 pages to carry on the story because I’m not ready to part with this world.

An honestly light-hearted and good e-sport read.Shi Lou, MC, is thrust into the world of professional gaming with his superstar mentor Yi Sui(ML) leading the way. They become twin stars in the game of fog until everything collapses and he is abandoned by the one he trusts the most.

Beyond the gaming bits it somewhat tackles the culture and politics of the industry. The actual Gameplay and mechanics were not particularly complicated or groundbreaking. In fact the matches often felt repetitive and the strategies limited(i.e no major surprises). The netizen/fan culture trope and spraying gag might have been over kill but made sense in setting up the stakes. It felt melodramatic at times but it added to the idea of being a professional player and mental stress of it all.The lead up to the championship, games and rivalries in general were kind of tedious and repetitive to a degree.

The true focus here was the the relationships of the teams and players behind the scenes.
This is a story centered around friendship, comraderie and perserverance. The intergration of romance in the midst of everything was lovely. The MC and the ML go through a rollercoaster that starts of a little angsty and grows progressively sappy and sweet. It really epitomizes the joys of young love and the pacing suits that. The dynamic between them is refreshing and age appropriate. They are good guys who care about each other. They are by definition hot, respectful, not overbearing or cold but thoughtful and caring and reliable. Consent and respect were good to see.

I was personally more invested towards the beginning. The misunderstandings were a bit flimsy to me but it was fun to witness the fluffiest of fluff. The overall story was nice.
