Welcome to Oracle Academy. Enrollment is nonnegotiable.

I’m Marik Nix, Oracle’s latest victim student.

OA has invited me to their elite school and I can’t refuse. Next thing I know, I’m transported to the academy where I’ll spend four years at the mercy of strict professors, dangerous trials, and nefarious bullies. Worse yet, the Overseers have handed me a prophecy I must fulfill before graduation… and die trying.

That’s right… Here, prophecies are never wrong, and mine claims I’m soon-to-be Oracle’s most powerful dead wizard.

Too bad I don’t want to die.

But surviving and changing my fate will take a miracle. When I’m asked to summon a Familiar—a creature to channel my magic—I’m blessed with three powerful, handsome shifters who answer my call. Thank you, universe.

Howl, the charming werewolf. Ozric, the passionate, courageous dragon. And Evarius, the sweet, protective bear. The three shifters may just hold the key to changing my fate… and stealing my heart. But to unlock our power, I must form bonds with each of them—starting with the dragon.

If Ozric’s searing flames don’t snuff me out, my prophecy and the bullies just might.

Wish me luck.

I don't know if the author was inspired or this was a retelling of Harry Potter but to me this was a blatant copy of Harry Potter well at least the first 50%, while the rest of story still sounded premature the book and the whole concept except its M/M.
The characters conversations can come pretty childish most of the time considering they were all in their 20s.

Provided ARC by GRR for an honest review.

This book was stunning. With the world building and feels, it was everything. This is a slow burn harem romance with wizards. It is amazing. I found parallels with Hunger Games & Harry Potter but only on the surface. This was a book of its own.

Marik lost his parents to a curse at a young age. Then 16 years later he is order to go to Oracle Academy for the magical arts. He does not understand as he has not been able to conjure any magic, but Oracle does not make mistakes so this much what he is supposed to do. Once he is at Oracle he is first tasked with summoning his Familiar. Well he had 3, and they are his mates. Swoon. So, ya they then start training together for Scrimmage, a wizard game, and the Trials of Fire. While doing so they are trying to change Marik’s fate...the battle is epic and scary but at the end, Marik is with his 3 mates.

I received this book for free from Gay Romance Reviews in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Magic of the Dragon caught my attention just by the synopsis. Being a fan of Harry Potter I was instantly interested. Add in the fact that it was a gay romance as well as I was sold.

Magic of the Dragon is sort of a cross between Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. There is a magical school with different houses and a magical threat. The world is a country separated into districts each with their purposes all geared towards providing for district one.

Marik is different than those around him. His parents were hailed as heroes of their district while they were alive. But when Marik was young, his parents died from a mysterious virus, and at the age of ten Marik did not show any signs of magic.

Everything changes when his summons to the Oracle Academy comes. He is sorted and then given his prophecy to fulfill before graduation. Like before he is different from those around him from when his prophecy is read to summoning three familiars that are shapeshifters. Usually, students have problems summoning one, but three?!?

For me, there was not a lot of building of a relationship between Marik and his familiars/mates. There is mention here and there. But it is mentioned they all sleep and bed together and they slowly get closer and closer. For me, that was a major aspect that was missing.

Magic of the Dragon was a fast read. Each chapter kept the plot moving and contributed nicely to the story. I found the writing style easy to read. Overall the book was a great read and I look forward to learning more about Marik’s world and how he is going to try and find out what is behind the virus.

Marik Nix doesn't have the best start in life after experiencing his parents deaths and the weight of expectation on him to carry in their legacy. The whole of this book focuses on a magical prophecy and how Marik is in peril but he has the most surprising of help in the way of 3 familiars that are just plain awesome. You cannot help draw parrelels with a certain boy wizard as the plot is a mirror image except with an adult mm twist. Very protective mates and a mystery to solve as to who the real villain could be, I don't think it will be obvious as to who it is. I got distracted by the many similarities with the boy wizard story but it doesn't take away what a good story it is and how the world pulls you in.

I devoured this story, in many places there was a Harry Potter feel to the story, though Marik born of two powerful magic parents in his sector, showed no magical talent until he went to Oracle.
There he chose a strong yet untied wand, he received 3 familiars that turned out to be his mates.
Between his background and each of his mates, he is not tied to any one branch of magic.
Even in Oracle there are four different houses, with ghosts and magic portals. With the magic sport of scrimmage.

I look forward to book 2

I enjoyed this magical fantasy, fated mates story. Although there are many similarities to the Harry Potter and Hunger Games series' with prophecies, games, districts, sorting, contests, and challenges, the story takes a divergent path with fated mates and an MMMM RH relationship. The book is intriguing and fast-paced, although there is not a lot of heat or sexy content. I look forward to the rest of the series. Maybe the relationship will heat up a little more.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

This is the first book in the Magic of the four series and is part of a continuing series.

This setting and world building of this book reminded me a lot of the Harry Potter universe and I absolutely devoured this one.

It was an enjoyable and compelling read and a great start to the series.
I felt that there could have been more character development, but since we this is a part of a continuing series, we will probably get more details in the coming books.

Overall, I enjoyed this and look forward to the next installment in the series.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest review. This was a good read. I wasn’t thrilled with how Marik was picked and told that if he tried to run away, he would be executed, but I did come to like it. Marik was different from those around him. His parents died was when was young by a mysterious virus but they were hailed as heroes of their district. Marik did not show any signs of having any type of magic. The characters are amazing and had great interaction between them. Look forward to the next book in this series.

I have to admit these books by Xya Olsen are ridiculously good, they draw you into the story filling in all the spaces of how this world works in all it's decriptive splendor. A hero finding his quest, his companions that join him, the challenges they face, the drama of the fight and figuring out how to live to the conclusion of the battle all wrapped up in a fantasy come to life in a really good book.

Magic of Dragon is the first story in the Magic of four series and it started with a bang! Magic, fated mates, quests, it was sooo good. Sweet Marik was such an innocent. Loved Marik’s familiars, Howl, Evarius and Ozric!! I loved the fantasy word the author brought to life. There is a great secondary cast of characters. I’m voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

I really enjoyed the world being created in this book to start the series. It was detailed enough so everything in the story works, but there are still intriguing hints of other aspects that we will discover in the succeeding books in the series. As an academic, I always enjoy books set in an educational setting with any age characters. I am a fan of shifter romances and this one was unexpectedly hot and fun with the three mates - dragon, werewolf and bear.

I was looking forward to reading this story but unfortunately it is just a rip off of Harry Potter. I finally gave up reading it. Its just too similar to waste time reading.

Truly disappointed. I was looking for something with more originality.

I received an ARC of this so I'm just glad I didn't spend money on it.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought that the characters were relatable and that the slow burn was amazing. I loved the way that the world was built and that Oracle sounded like an interesting place. I loved the scene between the mates and that we had to wait to get there because it made it feel more genuine. I just loved so much about this book. I would recommend it.

So, so many parallels with Harry Potter that i was distracted a lot by them. Once I got passed that I enjoyed the story and world building. Very much a slow burn because 21 year old Marik is so very innocent. I liked a lot of it, but didn't love it. However I would read the rest of the series
