I recall with great pleasure the class on Chaucer, focusing on the Canterbury Tales, that I took over the summer of 1977. It was taught by David Riggs, who was one of my favorite professors in college. I enjoyed learning to read Chaucer in the original Middle English. Among the few passages of poetry that I ever committed firmly to memory is the opening to the Prologue. Many years later I borrowed an audio recording of the Canterbury Tales from the library and enjoyed listening to them in the car.
