For such a short story, there was so much that was said. A wealth of shattering childhoods, random thoughts, and unsettling memories. Albert is a champ for going through it with her.
I absolutely adore the inclusion of the fish's dialogue, forever placing me in a silent room with an anxious woman and a fish bowl.
The similes and metaphors don't go unnoticed by my keen literary eye either. The line specifically "Like, we all go home and dredge up something stupid we said and count the words like poker chips we lost in a bad hand" was one I found myself reading over and over. Someone once told me that similes are just comparisons made unique to the author and this author is certainly poetic.
This short story is creepy, chilling, and candid. I look forward to her future work, whatever that entails.
