Walking in Grace and Glory: 90 Days in the Psalms

Rate this book
What was happening in the present moment for each psalmist spurred the writing of each psalm of the Bible. Through joy and tears, the psalmists cried out to a God they believed heard and cared.

Whatever our circumstances—a burdensome ministry, a difficult marriage, joblessness, or a deep loneliness—we can give them to God. He has lifted the burden of our sins; will He not lift the weight of our sorrows? We have trusted Him with our eternal souls; can we not entrust our present circumstances to Him? “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you” (55:22).

Because God cares about us, we can leave our cares with Him.
—David Roper

Through ninety devotional readings, David Roper explores the essence of various passages from Psalms and how they apply to the pains and blessings of real life. Through the lens of these songs and prayers, he explores the beauty and terror of nature, the snarling of angry thoughts, the preciousness of children, the good path to growing older, and more. In every up and down, Roper invites us to recognize the ways God speaks to us today.

I have always loved diving into the Psalms of David however I found that David Roper’s Walking in Grace and Glory is geared more towards the first time reader who has never spent much time in the Psalms or Old Testament for that matter. Those who have grown up in the church and done studies on the Psalms will likely find this book to be a disappointment.

To give some perspective, you can expect something similar to the short devotionals you get from Our Daily Bread. If you are a fan of such devotionals, this might be just the book for you. If however you are looking for something with more meat and substance, pass and consider checking out something else like C.S. Lewis’ Reflections on the Psalms.

Oddly enough, there is no Kindle or e-book version for those readers on the go.

And personally I think the price for this devotional is a bit high. Hopefully the publishers will come up with a Kindle version at a more economical price.

My thanks to NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions are my own.

I was really looking forward to this and had some really high hopes for it.

Unfortunately, though it’s pretty generic. There’s only about a paragraph to each different, devotion type thing.
a lot of times there’s only a little bit of original text a lot of it is extra Bible verses.
I don’t know I just feel devotionals, often times offer more than just simple Bible verses. a little bit of time.
There’s normally a story or a message as well as more resources available.

You don’t like actions, one can take in things one can do.
As well as other resources, like other books to read or whatever.

Where this didn’t have much of that at all. It’s simple and basic. This might be really good for like somebody who’s just starting up their faith journey.
But for me someone has been doing this for a while I need more.

Psalms have the ability to meet anyone exactly where they are to offer encouragement or admonition. I love this 90-day collection of devotionals centered around the Psalms. The order is not numerical, but rather topical in nature. A large section of Scripture is provided for reflection and meditation and then a short devotional is provided drawing from real life experiences and further Scriptures. Allow yourself to spend 90 days centered around these beautiful songs and prayers directly from God’s Word. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own, freely given.

Walk with me Lord

There isn’t a book that can stand up to the Bible, however this book takes the reader through a high level walk of the Psalms.

I was expecting a bit more, but that is not what I got What I got was a bit less, the devotions are short in many cases the Scripture is longer. I miss having a reflection or a nugget to tie the Scripture and devotion into one cohesive thought.

This book is for the believer or non believer ready to wet their appetite in this ancient entry into the book of Psalms which will in turn invite them into the Bible.

90 days in the psalms is a journey worth taking.
I received a galley copy of this book in exchange for my thoughtful and honest review.

This devotional is a nice entry into the Psalms. I think I was hoping for a deeper dive so I found this to be a disappointment, as it was very surface. These are nice bite-size devotionals to help you get in the word. Short and sweet, these will work if you are looking for something to add to your daily bible routine. My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.
