This is a beautiful devotional that takes you through the book of Proverbs, one per day.
I enjoyed the devotional for each chapter along with deeper insights provided. This devotion is for anyone looking to read and reflect for about 30 per day with the Lord.
I really enjoyed it and it made me stronger in my faith!
This book has been a great help with understanding Scripture I've read Proverbs before but there are somethings we tend to miss out even in simple verses, sometimes some meaning and verses easily stand out like about Adultery ..but staring from right the first chapter we miss out some basic and important like how to just help others when we can without saying later.. leading a simple life. i. e safezone our comfort life might not be God's will.. sure we are not doing something to hurt others but living in our own comfort zone might not be God's will for us and not following God's will for us isn't a good thing
See, such simple messages I've just learned reading within the first 30 pages
There's a Hebrew word emphasis for each chapter, important message to understand, real life examples from the authors life , questions to ask ourselves and prayer to guide through the chapter.
Most importantly I felt what the book was trying to tell me was in union with God's message - That's one important thing I always lookout while reading non fiction This book has been a great help for me, to understand one of the most incredible book in Bible - Proverbs I sure do recommend this book
This is both a beautifully designed artwork book as well as being a practical devotional for busy women. The drawings on the pages are so lovely to look at, but they don’t take away from the scriptures used or the brief little message that goes with each day. There’s also a place for you to take notes from what you take away from that’s days devotion. There are some Hebrew definitions of words that you may not come across every day, and a few questions to get you thinking. This would be a great gift for a special woman in your life and I definitely intend to purchase one for myself and likely a few gifts as well!
Thanks to Our Daily Bread Publisher’s and Netgalley for this fabulous arc in exchange for my review.
I loved this cover! Isn’t it beautiful? This book was put together beautifully. As a young mother I began working my way through Proverbs because it was only a verse a day. Its also packed full of great wisdom and was doable for me to only read one verse a day for my busy life. I did it for months and even memorized some verses about the tongue. So having said that, I think this book would make a great devo. It’s very encouraging and manageable. Each part starts with the scripture verses per chapter and then someone shares an experience. I love to read this part because it’s always so helpful to me. Then, there is usually a couple of encouraging questions and more information about the chapter. Such as, the authorship and or who the audience was. Usually ending the chapter with a prayer. The book shares that chapters 1-9 are focused toward young people. Chapters 10-29 reveal truth. And chapters 30-31 are focused on women of God. Remember, these are not promises, they are principals for wise living. This was put together by “Our Daily Bread” to hopefully enrich readers to be transformed by God’s wisdom. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a good, solid devotional. Thank you Our Daily Bread Publisher via Netgalley for this ARC. I’ve voluntarily given my honest review.
As a young Christian in my early teens I was often grateful for the structure of daily Bible reading notes to encourage and assist me in my quiet times before the Lord.
This set of 31 days readings, reflecting the chapters of Proverbs reminded me of those days. I liked the concept and I enjoyed the discipline it brings to Bible study. Rather than a heavy in depth study of the book of Proverbs this is a wonderful introduction to this part of the Old Testament.
I was pleased the scripture formed part of the book so you don’t need to be cross referencing with your own Bible. No you could read each day’s chapter in full.
Then to give it a greater sense of value and provide interesting contributions, a varied list of persons lead the devotional thoughts, usually based on a theme /and/or/ a verse.
I also liked the bringing out of original Hebrew text of key words. It was also encouraging to find prayers to repeat some of the learning lessons and helping the reader in their times of reflexion and waiting on God.
Above all I loved the format and how the book is laid out. It was a joy to read a part of the Bible within a time of 31 days. Especially as the artwork and illustrations were equally pleasing and mindful. This means than the book will be treasured and enjoyed beyond the initial reading.
It gave me deep satisfaction and proved an excellent tool to compliment my own Bible studies and prayer times. While it is Christian centred and a benefit to those wanting to study and learn more from scripture. Proverbs is a book of wisdom with many a pithy saying, so it would suit anyone to follow this train of thought and discover biblical wisdom that still makes sense today.
That said this is a reflective, encouraging companion to Proverbs. It does not beat one up; imply one’s sinfulness or demand a closer walk with God. It allows the words of scripture to mostly speak for themselves. However, the mark of the quality of teaching here, is seen in the references to New Testament texts and the overall message the Bible brings.
The watercolor artwork is present on every page, but does not overwhelm or distract, instead it lends a very peaceful and pleasing tone to one’s study. The scriptures for each chapter are right here in the book as well, which is very convenient if you don’t want to balance two books and don’t mind reading from the NIV Bible.
Each day’s devotion has a story illustration and 2-3 thought provoking questions, as well as occasional Hebrew word definitions, proverb explanations, and prayers to pray.
This would make a great gift for someone or a wonderful addition to your own library!
This book would make a lovely gift to others and you may as well get one for yourself. Proverbs being the book about wisdom is another word for drawing near to God. The book entails the whole book of Proverbs written on a beautiful back drop. Each chapter begins with a chapter of Proverbs and commentary that brings wisdom to your heart.
A great resource to read year after year.
A special thank you to Our Daily Bread Ministries and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
This 31 day devotional on Proverbs walks you through a Proverb a day, letting you sit and soak in the wisdom explored there. i loved everything about this book. The pages were beautiful, well laid out and insightful. It was a pleasure to take a month and be immersed it Proverbs, i didn't rush through it and it was so good! And the illustrations are so delightfully simple and calm.
Thanks to #NetGalley for this ARC #ADevotionalJourneyThroughProverbs
This book is simply stunning inside and out with just as many calming and gorgeous leaves inside the covers as out. As beautiful as it it is, I also found it to be a very thought provoking look at the book of Proverbs and I do feel like I learned a lot from reading this. It also provides some historical context including the actual origin of some of the words that are used in the Bible that I found fascinating. Some of the historical elements did feel a little repetitive by the time we reached the end of the book and I wish they had gone for more of a variety of historical facts since I'm sure they are a plethora of things they could have chosen. Overall, this is a book that I would love to include in my library and it could even be displayed since it is so beautiful and would be something nice to flip through occasionally now that I have read it.
This beautifully designed devotional takes the reader through the 31 chapters of Proverbs. Each reading starts a chapter of Proverbs, followed by a reflection written by different authors on a specific verse from that chapter, and then a few reflection questions. Rotating through the daily devotions are prayers, definitions of Hebrew words, and context and scope of Proverbs (information on Solomon, themes, etc). Sometimes there is space to write your responses to the reflection questions.
Overall, this was a good devotional. Some of the author reflections were stronger than others; some lacked a sufficient link to the verse they were focusing on. Each devotional was a good length—not too long, not too short. I loved the inclusion of the Hebrew words and their context. I found that enriching to my reading experience. I would have liked to see a prayer included with each chapter. I find that praying after a devotional reading helps to solidify what I just read and allows me to focus on what I learned from the Bible reading for that day and ask for anything that I am lacking in. I would have liked to see a more in depth analysis of Proverbs. The reader is reading the entire book of Proverbs, yet only 31 verses are highlighted in detail. (I will say that all of the author reflections are immersed in Biblical references, which was fantastic seeing connections between the OT and the NT, for example). I personally would have preferred a verse-by-verse commentary. But, that is not what this devotional is, and as I said, it is a lovely devotional. This devotional would be a sufficient introduction to Proverbs for a new Christian (with support), or a more in depth study (the Hebrew words especially) for a seasoned follower.
My final critique concerns the author’s explanation of Solomon’s personification of wisdom in the Proverbs 1 devotional. The author notes that Solomon is identifying wisdom as a woman and states that this is a metaphor. However, in paragraph two of the “Befriending Wisdom” section, the author writes as if wisdom is a real person. By capitalizing “Woman Wisdom”, a reader could be confused by the author’s intention and might think that this is a real person, as real as Solomon himself, and thus, the reader will miss that the author is weakly explaining the personification of wisdom. Additionally, the author states: “She [wisdom] asks for only one thing in return: that you accept her as she is, in all her breathtaking glory (8:32-36). Will you choose Wisdom?” (p. 11). This bit is theologically bewildering. I found myself wondering if the author actually meant God, or did the author mean that God is a woman, or does the author believe there really is Woman Wisdom? There is only one person you should be choosing when you read the Bible, and that is Jesus. Solomon makes it very clear in Proverbs 1 that wisdom is personified as a woman. Personifying ideas such as wisdom, justice, or liberty as a woman is a common throughout different cultures and times. To avoid confusion and theological issues, this section needs to be reworked by utilizing lower-case “w” for wisdom, and taking out the title “Woman Wisdom” the author uses throughout these two paragraphs.
Other than that, this was a good read. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for providing me with an ARC.
I am definitely enjoying this devotional journey a Proverb a day, who would've thunk this would've been the devotion I was looking for.
So I've completed day one glanced at day two and skimmed through the rest and the set-up is the same through out the book.
Day 1 represents Proverbs chapter one, after you finish reading the daily Scripture there is a devotional story; you know something personal and reflective. BUT there is more after the actual devotion you have reflective questions like "What does wisdom mean to you? I sat for a minute thinking about this question as well as the verse that says "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" in that moment I knew this devotional had done what it devotions promise to bring me closer to the Lord through His word. One your tarried over the questions the reader then moves on to some knowledge about Proverbs as a book and lastly a prayer to close out your devotional journey, and journey it definitely is.
This devotion is for that person who is looking to spend either 5 mins or 30 minutes with the Lord. I absolutely recommend this devotional for anyone looking to get in the word, be transformed by Proverbs and gain a better understanding of wisdom.
This book was provider by the publisher in exchange for my thoughtful & honest review.
Now, that's what I'm talking about! A Devotional Journey through Proverbs was one of the best and most beautiful devotions I have ever followed! Equipped with the Proverb, a devotion, a summary, a few questions, and sometimes a prayer; each day felt like God was speaking directly to me! While I have read through Proverbs over the years, this was the first time I devoted a month to reading a chapter a day, asking the Lord to reveal His truth through the words I was reading. Our Daily Bread did a fantastic job addressing key verses, allowing readers to apply the wisdom nuggets into their hearts as they spent time bathing in the presence of the Holy Spirit!
"To live with wisdom is to live in tune with God’s Spirit in such a way that we make healthy, life-giving choices that, ultimately, bring glory to God."
I highly recommend this devotion! It has everything you're looking for in a daily reading guide, while giving space for the Father to move in your life, expanding your faith and teaching you life lessons to strengthen your relationship with the Almighty!
"God can’t be limited by our limitations, our reservations, or our tendencies to settle or dream small. "
This beautifully illustrated 31-day devotional features one chapter of the Old Testament book of Proverbs each day. Each day’s reading includes a brief devotional to help in the practical application of the passage, as well as reflection questions and a prayer. What sets this devotional apart from traditional devotionals, however, are the study aids. The devotional opens with an introduction that situates the book of Proverbs in the Wisdom literature of the Bible and provides guidance for interpreting this particular type of biblical literature. In addition, each day’s reading features one or more study notes for the reader who wants to learn more about specific words, the author, the historical context, or a theme. Perhaps most important, the devotional includes the full biblical text of each chapter. This is not only convenient but also privileges the biblical text over a writer’s thoughts about the text (well-written and helpful as the devotionals are!)
This devotional equips the reader to actively engage with Scripture. A well-designed and worthwhile resource!
I was provided with a free copy of this book through NetGalley. My views are completely my own.
A Devotional Journey through Proverbs 31 Reflections and Insights from Our Daily Bread by Our Daily Bread Ministries Our Daily Bread Publishing Christian | Religion & Spirituality Pub Date 02 Mar 2021
I am reviewing A Devotional Journey Through Proverbs through Our Daily Bread Publishing and Netgalley:
This beautifully illustrated Devotional will invite you to learn the wisdom of Solomon through the pages of this 31 day Devotional. These beautifully illustrated pages allow you a walkthrough of the Proverbs with complete Biblical text.
We are reminded in this Devotional that the Book of Proverbs is a series of wise sayings, many penned to King Solomon who is acclaimed to be as the wisest men of his era. It is pointed out too that the Proverbs contain wise sayings that are meant to help us through the life decisions we face.
The Bible reading, Devotional pages and additional insights as well as the word studies, and reflection questions, in A Devotional Journey Through Proverbs will give you practical guidance for everyday living.
I give A Devotional Journey Through Proverbs five out of five stars!
This is an insightful title that takes an in-depth look at the book of Proverbs. The translations are taken predominantly from the New International Version of The Holy Bible.
I liked the cover of this book and the way the pages were laid out. The book design, font, and the entire layout is visually pleasing to the eye and offers an easy to follow structure. Following each of the first chapters, we are provided with an anecdote or insight to hammer the point home. I would have liked there to have been less focus on the author and more objective insights given because at times I felt I was dragged into someone else's devotion rather than simply following my own. That said, the author did pose questions for thought throughout the book for our consideration.
All in all, a solid 4/5 stars. Well worth a read if you are an avid Christian or someone looking for more answers about this specific part of the Bible.
A Devotional Journey through Proverbs is a gorgeous book; the artwork and layout are very visually appealing. The text for each chapter of Proverbs is included. The devotional passages follow and are focused on one verse, and were very thoughtful. There was also some historical context or other related information, some questions to think about, and a prayer for each chapter. My only "issue" was more with the content of Proverbs than the book itself. Just an example, but adulterous woman is used 6 times in Proverbs, but there's no adulterous, quarrelsome man to be saved from. Eye roll. But worth it for the tidbits of wisdom, the devotionals, and background information. A solid 3.5 stars.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher, Our Daily Bread, for a digital review copy. Publish date March 2, 2021.
Highly recommended as a devotional guide for anyone serious about studying Proverbs. I love that this is broken into chapters according to each proverb. The full proverb is provided, then a devotional with an explanation of the key points being highlighted in each proverb. Thought provoking questions are offered, so I recommend having a journal handy as well. This would be a great small group study to generate growth and conversation or a personal study to promote depth and introspection. Beautiful color schemes make each page pleasing to gaze upon as you study the content. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own, freely given.
This devotional is a hopeful, encouraging, and practically useful daily walk through Proverbs. It includes a beautifully illustrated chapter of Proverbs, an illustration of life application to the passage, a bit of chapter context and explanation for better comprehension, and a beautifully-worded applicable prayer. This book would be a wonderful gift for someone, or even a personal treat to help a person read through the book of Proverbs, even if they had no prior experience with it. Also there are a couple simple questions that could be used for further pondering or discussion if read with a friend or accountability partner. This devotional is a simple way to learn and grow from a great wisdom book of the Bible.
A fabulous feature in this book are the explanations of Hebrew words. These tidbits give a greater connection to the Scriptures. Another helpful feature are the prayers. They are written beautifully. It's OK to read these prayers and to give them to the LORD as if they are your own. They are exremely helpful when you don't know how to start praying.
I enjoyed A Devotional Journey through Proverbs . The format was well-done and you don't need to own a Bible. The book of Proverbs is given within the book. What I liked about this book is that it truly focuses on Scriptural truths. It is more Bible and application than it is ramblings. about someone's opinion. This is a great devotional if you are looking to begin reading the Bible or need a daily dose of Scriptures.
First off this book is so pretty and aesthetically pleasing. Proverbs is one of my favorite books of the Bible, so I was very excited to check this out. This book is packed full of scriptures, but is also so much more. There are short stories, prayers, passages that do a great job of explaining the scripture, as well as reflective questions. The questions range from simple to complex and thought provoking. Five stars. Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.
I loved this devotional. Each section of the book looks at a a different chapter of proverbs going through the entire book of Proverbs. Each section is short and doesn’t take too long to read but full of information.
The book is beautiful and laid out very well. The cover is beautiful which the same is also concept is continued throughout the book. This book would make a wonderful gift.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
The Proverbs Devotional Journey is a refreshing and delightful read. This devotional is filled with beautiful artwork and reflection questions as it walks you through the book of Proverbs. This would be a great introduction to the Bible for someone who is seeking God and may feel intimidated by picking up a whole Bible. It’s great daily read for a busy mom. This book would be a perfect Mother’s Day or graduation gift.
Thanks to NetGalley and Our Daily Bread Publishers for an ARC of this book. All opinions are completely my own.
I received an ARC from Our Daily Bread Publishing, via NetGalley. This review is my personal opinion.
In this book, we go through all 31 chapters, each one with a different author from Our Daily Bread Ministry. I like that we have the text, the variety, although all have a small reflection with one verse of the chapter, some days they choose a specific word and explained it in the original and go a bit deeper with another Bible reference. We have questions to helps journal and to be honest with God, it could be a great choice to share with friends and family.
A Devotional Journey through Proverbs is a beautiful and thought provoking reexamination of these wonderful scriptures. Each chapter of Proverbs is presented as a whole to be read, then a word or thought from that proverb is touched upon for further reflection & study within this context.. I would highly recommend this beautifully illustrated book for your own study or as a gift for someone else. I'm very thankful to the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read A Devotional Journey through Proverbs prior to publishing in exchange for my opinion. I'll go with 5 stars!!

I loved the watercolor illustrations on every page as much as I enjoyed this daily devotional that takes you on a “scenic tour through Proverbs, the Bible’s book of wisdom.”
The full Bible text of this classic Old Testament book is perfect for studying a chapter each day for a month. In addition to the actual text, a daily devotional, words studies, historical insights, and reflection questions were included. This was an easy introduction to the insights of Proverbs and would be great for a small group or independent study.
With all the chaos in the world swirling around us, it was so nice to wake up each morning and read this devotional. Wisdom is a theme that runs through Proverbs and if we've ever needed the message about wisdom, that time is now. The book is beautifully designed and takes us through a chapter each day along with a story and questions to help you grow closer to God. I'd love to see Our Daily Bread Ministries create more books like this for other books of the Bible.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.
