The Mysteries of Max #22-24

Mysteries of Max: Books 22-24

Rate this book
Love letters, missing starlets, and way too many mice. Max is not having it.

Life in Hampton Cove is rarely dull—but lately, it’s reached new levels of absurd. First, the local paper hires a mysterious new advice columnist, whose scandalous suggestions stir up trouble all over town. Then things get even worse: a feline advice column is launched, and suddenly Max is drowning in love-struck letters from pets. Romance? No thanks.

Just as Max starts to regain his balance (and reclaim his couch), disaster strikes again—this time in the form of Passion Island, a wildly popular reality show. Max might be immune to its charm, but the rest of the Poole household isn’t… and when five contestants vanish, even Max is forced to admit something fishy is going on.

And just when you think it’s safe to raid the fridge, a full-blown mouse invasion turns Max’s home into a disaster zone. With murder charges hanging over Odelia’s boss and the pantry under siege, Max finds himself juggling one too many crises—and his food bowl dangerously empty.

This omnibus edition includes Purrfect Advice, Purrfect Passion, and A Purrfect Gnomeful—three cozy, quirky mysteries full of love, lies, reality TV, rodents, and one very grumpy tabby trying to keep it all together.

Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).

When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.

He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.

satisfactory

Mostly the characters are likable and interesting. Mostly the plots are also interesting and a bit fun. However, two things bug me to the point of putting this series away forever. One, why does the author insist on carrying on the story that the three Poole women talk to their cats in “cat” language? Why would this be necessary when it’s obvious the cats understand what every human, including the television and radio, say. They can even read. So why oh why would the women communicate in meows? Makes no sense. Two, why do the police make arrests on the flimsiest of circumstantial evidence then use their own imagination to build up motives? Chase is a cop from NYC. Tex’s car was unlocked and a body dumped in it and even his wife and daughter immediately assumed he’d killed someone? Everybody knew Dan and yet immediately passed on the story that he was a serial killer? Please. Bend some rules of reality for fiction, but keep some semblance of rational thinking please. And yet I keep reading the next book. Am I hooked or hoping things improve? No matter what, anyone who can write even a halfway engaging book is amazing to me. It’s a lot of hard work and I applaud you.

Another great series!

I can't believe I've read 24 books of this series! Love love love the talking cats and all the characters. Plots were great...I stopped trying to figure out who the killer's were...it was always a surprise plot twist and ending. Can't wait to read the next book!

Fun reading

This series is good clean fun reading for any age. It has a cross section of characters that everyone can identify with at least one.
