Love & Luck #5

Two Men and a Baby

Rate this book
Josh

Here’s some advice for surviving your ex’s wedding weekend:

1. Just smile and nod whenever someone lays on the sympathy
2. Stay away from tequila
3. Don’t make out with any of your ex’s brothers

Whoops

Connor Kelly sure has changed over the past eight years. He’s no longer the scrawny emo kid I remember from before he moved away; and, oh yeah, apparently he’s into guys now...

But it doesn’t matter how hot Connor is, or how funny, or how charming - he’s my ex’s brother and that means he’s off limits.

It doesn’t seem like anyone’s ever explained that rule to Connor, though...

When he calls one day begging for my help, I’m expecting it to be yet another ploy in his effort to get me to go out with him. Cue my surprise when I find a shell-shocked Connor with a baby he claims is his son.

As if it weren’t already hard enough resisting Connor, watching the way he connects and bonds with his son is going to make it damn near impossible...

Warning: This book is not appropriate for anyone who doesn’t like laughing, anyone who doesn’t like babies, or anyone who doesn’t like when sexy nerds and hot bearded men have a ton of scorching hot sex.

Two Men and a Baby is book five in the Love & Lies series by Isla Olsen. The cover of this one is what drew me in. I’m a goner for the beard and tattoos!

Connor Kelly hasn’t lived in New York near his family for eight years. He went away to college and then has been working for an architecture firm in Denver. But he’s ready to come home. He has applied and gotten a new job at a firm in New York.

Josh Donovan works in an early childcare development center in New York. He used to date Declan Kelly but it ended quite some time ago and they are still friends. The entire Kelly clan is kind of a second family to Josh.

It’s Declan and Heath’s wedding. Connor and Josh haven’t seen each other in eight years. When they first see each other, they are both instantly smitten with the men they have become. Josh is gay but Connor is bi even though he hasn’t explored that side of himself much yet. He just hasn’t felt the attraction that made him want to do so until now and this is like a huge truck barreling down the highway. He’s overcome by this man.

Connor knows what he wants and what he wants is Josh. He declares that he is going to woo him and let me tell you, when Connor puts his mind to something, he cannot be deterred! But Connor is the brother of Josh’s ex boyfriend. That’s against the rules, right?! Even though he is attracted to Connor he doesn’t feel right about it. But when Connor calls him needing his help, Josh doesn’t hesitate to be there for him. Because Connor has just gotten a VERY big surprise. He’s a daddy to an adorable baby boy from a one night stand about thirteen months ago!

This was so cute. Connor’s wooing attempts were so adorable. And a huge, bearded, tattooed man being a sweet daddy to a little baby, well, I may have drooled! I never really warmed up to the baby’s mom even though both Connor and Josh had no problem with her. It seemed like she could have somehow found him at some point during the pregnancy to find Connor and tell him. And at times I didn’t like her attitude. But I did like the way she and Connor instantly just gelled with the whole co-parenting thing. I also wanted to know if his name was on the baby’s birth certificate but that was never mentioned. I think that’s just a me thing.

This was a sweet, swoony, sexy story and I enjoyed it so much. The next book, Can’t Get You Out of My Bed, is Aidan and Ben’s book.

3 Liked-it-but-did-not-love-it stars!! 👍 Although I enjoyed the story, it didn't really hold my attention. Josh and Connor were great MCs, but except Connor's unconventional looks there was no difference in their interactions or love story than any of the others from the Kelly Clan. The whole baby story felt contrived and artificial just to pair them up.
Overall it was more Connor's story than Josh's. I would have liked to have some backstory and depth with regards to Josh's health scare from last year, including his insecurities. The author just skimmed over it in favor of baby related hijinks 😬. Connor being in over his head (as a new baby-daddy) and Josh helping him out is the premise and how they fall for each other and find their HEA is the plot. The rest is just funny banter, steamy times between the MCs, family chats/insults and get-togethers 😁. All in all, a light fluff book with plenty of fun and passion ❤️🔥 Highly recommended to all fans of M/M rom coms, but heads up; this is not a standalone; there are a lot of overlapping stories so the series must be read in order😉. Looking forward to Aidan's story next.. 😍

Story: 3.5 stars
Connor: 5 stars

Just like the author's note says this story might need a little bit of suspension of disbelief. There's a a lot of things that are a little over the top crazy going on. But it's also very sweet and low angst. And I really appreciate that.

This was really cute, funny and entertaining! A great addition to the series. Connor and Josh were adorable together. The baby trope was fun and sweet. There is A LOT of sex for such a short book but the sex scenes are short enough not to get boring.

I’m a little bored with the series to be honest, I find the books are very similar and all the Kellys are blending in my mind. But I’be been wanting to read Aidan’s book since the beginning, so I’m definitely reading at least one more.

2.5. This is a new to me author and I'em not a fan. The scenes end abruptly (they sit down for breakfast and cut to the next scene, what did they talk about?) and too much happens off page for my taste. I mean Connor and Josh text for like 2 months while Connor is wooing Josh (it's a bit close to harassment BTW) and we see 2 text exchanges. The characters remained shallow to me to the end, we don't get to know them because most things happen off page (granted, not the sex). I did not really get why Josh was so hesitant. The reasons were given but it did not really seem like enough. I also wasn't a fan of the constant talk of sex in front of everyone including Connor's whole family. I guess it's a family trait because they all do it but including sex talk during wedding vows? (that's like chapter 2) I'm not a fan. Positives: they communicated well, the baby plot was well done and it's a light read.

[3.5] after the kiss fiasco from the last book, i was wondering how i’d feel about Josh’s story but this was surprisingly my favorite out of the three i’ve read so far—quick low-angst fun (with some suspension of disbelief required), and as always, the Kelly family group chat is a hoot! 🦉

for those with goldfish brains like me who are planning to start this series, draw up a family tree to keep track of everyone because this family is already large on its own but continues to grow exponentially 😆

I almost didn’t finish this one. It was so far fetched! I get that it’s fiction and I read romance for the fiction. I was sort of okay with Laura leaving the baby with Conner because it moved the story along for Josh and Conner who I both loved. But Laura and Conner moving into together after a few months? WTF? yes they share a kid. But they were a one night stand they knew nothing about each other and he loves Josh but didn’t tell him about any of this but hey he loves him so it doesn’t matter?!? Just stupid!! Maybe if we got to know Laura and there was some type of bond between the 3 of them. Maybe I could see that happening. It nothing like Full House! Jesse was the uncle and Joey was Dannys best friend everyone knew each other for years!! Not a one night stand! This move should have been in the epilogue or something after they knew each other for over 3 months! Ugh hopefully tomorrow I’ll forgot all about this one so I can move onto the rest of the series because I was loving the series up to this book!!

I was waited for Connor's story after I finished Wade and Braden's story, and curious about the baby.
So I was jumped to read this one after I got the ARC. Kelly's family are always interesting.
Josh and Connor's 'first' met was adorable. But there's a thing with the baby's mom that didn't really get me. Called me an old fashion, but I think it was too easy for Connor to just build the life together with Laura. No romantic relationship whatsoever, I know it's for the baby's sake, but ifI was Josh, I would be a wee bit disappointed.
Good thing I wasn't Josh, who have a big heart and loved babies :)
So yeah, this one didn't really my favorite. I hope Aidan's story would be better. Can't wait!

This is my least favorite of the series so far. These stories are just turning into so many unrealistic things.

We have yet another brother that prefers women but has kissed guys and then falls madly into lust with his brother's ex-boyfriend. Oh and this happens at the brother's wedding. Don't get me wrong, I love the Kelly family, but seriously every brother except 1???? Out of what 8??

And why not throw in a surprise baby?? With a random hookup in an airport bathroom?? Classy.

We also get a glimpse into Ben & Aiden a little but I'm not sure if I'm ready yet. After coming off of this book, I'm a little nervous.

So not one of my favourites in the series but definitely light hearted feel good. Unlike the others there doesn’t feel like there’s a lot of romance, it’s more focused on Connor being a dad. The thing with Laura was a little confusing with how everyone just accepted the situation. Plenty of sex, a little humour and teasing for the next book. Cute story.

Baby Chase UWU 💖
And I love how every time someone from the Kelly family comes out or gets outed, it's always, ALWAYS via the group chat 😂

This is in my opinion the weakest in the series so far. It started out so strong, and then kinda mellowed out, and after two thirds I expected it to be over, only to realize I still had a third to go... No real conflict, and the little that there was was resolved after 60%. Meh.

This was an entertaining read and it had some sweet moments.
As usual the baby trope worked fine. Connor finding out he is a dad, not having a clue how to handle the situation and Josh, working in daycare helping out.
Even before all this happened, Connor tried to get in bed with Josh, who refused because Connor is the brother of Josh's ex.
This had very little drama which was nice, lots of family (which was to be expected with the 5th part of the series) and too many blow job's for my liking. I don't mind sex in stories, but it got a little repetitive here.
Overall this was fun while it lasted, but I am not sure if I will continue with the series. 3.5 stars

Not my favourite of the series, I'll keep reading as I do want Aiden and Ben's story, I will admit to becoming slightly weary of the Kelly family now, for me, personally, they are bordering on being farcical.

My first Isla Olsen book is definitely a success. I got an ARC and dived in without knowing anything about the author or the series and ended up enjoying this book so much!
It is a warm, funny, steamy low angst story. Even finding out you accidently made a baby is handled with immidiate acceptence and joy.
Loved both MCs - there is no darkness in them, just sweetness, humor and confidence. They have good hearts, are honest with each and build strong relationships.
Some things were a bit over the top for me - like living arrangements before the epilogue or immediate bi-awakening acceptance by absolutely everyone. It wasn't even discussed between MCs. But that's the way the story is - kind of a fairy tale.
Family group chat is hilarious, I definitely want to read about other Kelly brothers - the rest of the series goes directly to my TBR list.

Connor and Josh shouldn’t hook up because it would be complicated, uncomfortable, and probably lead to many family jokes for years. Also Connor is a daddy. However, Connor plus Josh plus baby Chase equals a relationship just too good to let go of. Of course there is that interesting body piercing.

While I’m not averse to angst, I also love a good story with hardly any also. This was just a plain old fashioned falling in love book. There’s a lot of sweet in this book...men, baby, family, and the heat is sweet enough to cause cavities. Just what I needed on a rainy day.

I received an arc of this book.

Two Men and a Baby is the the fifth book in the fan-freakin-tastic Love & Luck series by Isla Olsen. All of the men in the series, and the Kelly family as a whole, have captured my heart.

This one is fun from the start, with Josh and Connor hooking up at a wedding. Little does Josh realize that his hookup is the brother of his ex. Oops. I love the concept and I am enthralled by the execution. I love it all. After all, if it isn't awkward enough to be near an ex, try dating his brother. Awkward.

Take note though that this is handled in a manner I haven't seen before. It isn't icky at all. The former relationship was never meant to be and both men completely moved on. The two brothers definitely end up with the right person now. I also appreciate the way the brothers and the family handle the news.

And then there's a surprise baby. Now this aspect I really adore as it is all done in an angst free manner. Unlike so many books, this time there's no hatred and fights, and Connor just wants to be there for his kid, as well as help out the mother.

If you haven't noticed yet, Connor is bi, and this is a fabulous bi-awakening romance for him.

The Kellys are as amazing as ever. I wish they would adopt me. They are hysterical, with banter and barbs throughout, yet they are also loving and supportive.

Written in alternating 1st person pov, the reader is pulled into every moment first hand. You'll be there for the baby food in beards, the hilarious texts, and a whole lot of Kelly banter, aka love.

Two Men and a Baby is sweet, funny, and compelling. Everything about this Isla Olsen read will leave you thrilled to send some more time with the Kellys. And you will fall in love with Josh and Connor. If you don't read this book, you are seriously missing out.

This was good, just not my favorite couple, but that's probably on me. From previous books mentions of Connor, I was expecting something different. Overall still a good book.

I’m just loving the fact the in with this book and the last one I read that the guys didn’t take so long to actually tell their family that they were together.

But I’m surprised that Conner wanted to a relationship with Josh so fast. I was definitely interested in their story. Plus I don’t think we as readers should read this book out of order. Because it’s so much that happens in each book. Towards the end; that it’ll have you so curious and wondering.

But there’s not much I can say with this book is only that I love the fact that Josh had help Conner through taking care of baby Carter & Laura accepting Conner being in Carter's life because she was kind of rude towards him. Probably because she didn’t know him well... but he explains to her that they both didn’t.

But it’s good she accepted that Josh and Conner wanted to be together and ended up together. To let her son be around his father even if he liked a guy and dated him. What’s funny to be was Conner's family not realizing that he was bisexual that was priceless. I mean they should by now that half of well most of the brothers are either bi or gay. They definitely going to find out about Aiden In the next book.

Because I assume he’s in the closet. Plus I am sooo curious about Aiden and Ben's relationship that has been going on since they were young!!!

I absolutely love this series!! The Kelly family is such so great and hilarious at times. I love getting to know each brother with the more books that I read.

I didn’t even really think about Connor in any of the previous books but I’m glad I got to read more about him. He’s a really good guy and seems super sweet. Even though Josh is his brother Declan’s ex, Josh has been a friend of the Kelly family since he was in middle school. There was no drama when the family found out that Connor and Josh were together either. It was nice.

I love all the talk about Connor loving the Babysitter’s Club books. And the Full House reference at the end when Connor, Laura and their kid Chase moved in together and he wanted Josh to move in with them too. So fricken cuuuuute.

I’m excited to read the next book. I just can’t get enough of this series.

I enjoyed this sweet and funny romance about Connor and Josh.
Connor has recently discovered that he is the father to a 4 month old baby son.
Early learning professional Josh is there to help Connor adjust to fatherhood.
I liked the text exchanges between these two men.
The great big loving family and supportive friends were a definite plus.
This was a really enjoyable, easy to read, low angst story. I'm keen to go back and read the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed this sweet, low angst story. What do you get when you mix one guy, his ex's brother and the cutest baby? A fun afternoon read. Connor and Josh have great chemistry between them. Though Josh fights his attraction, seeing Connor trying to get a handle on being a dad pushes all his buttons.
Lots of humor, family and happy times in this story. Great addition to the Love & Luck series!
