Nick and his friends get sucked through a portal at a bachelor party to another world. Two of the friends are taken away to unknowable outcomes. At no time though does anyone seem very upset by it or question what happened at all. Sure, Nick is on the run for his life, kind of. And then he gets raped. But that doesn't seem to bother him at all. Sold into slavery, yawn. Huge plot hole happens right away. Nick is able to do something magicky by instinct. Which is realistic if he's having past life memories. But then he's not able to do it for the rest of the books.
Then there's the Devine Path, which is a neat idea, kind of Buddhist like. But EVERY TIME they talk about it they start at the very beginning and go on and on. It's like the author is in school and needs a certain word count so he repeats everything over and over. Okay class, in case you missed it last time, I'll now repeat myself.
Last but certainly not least. The sword. The flaming thunderbolt of wisdom. It's not that the sword is a bad idea but for Gods sake do we have to use its full name every single time we use it or think about it. If it had a nice short name like Blood or/and Fire it wouldn't hurt so much. Just say you drew your sword.
Anyways, there are other smaller less annoying things about the book but these are the ones that really annoyed me. I really wanted to like this book more but.....

Beyond the value of getting all three books in one set, the more important thing about this audiobook is that it is a highly entertaining story with an engaging cast of characters. The author avoids falling into the easy trap of the main character being too overpowered, while he has some extremely powerful abilities, they still have their limitations and he must work hard to develop them over the course of the books.

The narrators performance was a good one, further helping to draw the listener in and nicely enhancing the series, the main cast definitely felt a lot more distinctive than the supporting cast though.

Overall, an enjoyable series of books and I hope to listen to more of them in the future.

To say that I LOVE this series would be an understatement of the highest magnitude.

I've not read anything of this type previously (cultivation/wuxia), so this was a new thing for me. I not only loved the story, but also the wee explanatory chapters at the back containing some historical information, the author's relevant experiences, and how these for into the tale. There's a couple of these that will either make you howl with laughter, or have a WTF? moment.

This series actually took my breath away. It's beautiful, heartfelt, and full of Buddhist imagery which I enjoy very much. Having said that, at the heart of this is a man called Nick, who is drawn into a place and time that he has no understanding of. Yet he, and other characters, build on, and positively change their natures. However, none of the characters are to be underestimated. Things don't exactly go smoothly along the line, but I'm saying nothing more. You need to experience this for yourselves.

As a result of getting to know these people well, there are sections in here which will bring tears to your eyes, and have your heart in your throat. The action scenes are fabulous, the plot highly entertaining, and the humour giggle-tastic. The author writes very well and imaginatively. Not only are the readers learning about the characters and the lore, I feel we are also learning more about Harmon Cooper himself: the author, student, and teacher.

If you enjoy this box set, please tell the author that you want more of this series.

A great cultivation series by Cooper as we explore a fantasical mythical world where we expand out our skills in a surprisingly intensive read. Although this is Coopers first foray into the cultivation series it mixes his personal experience of familiar Bhutanese and Tibetan lore into interesting fast-paced stories that will appeal to Xianxia, Wuxia, LitRPG, and progression fans. With other bestsellers under his belt this writing works well and as a boxset a bargain as over 27hours of Nick , Rodger etc and their otherworld experiences of an emotional journey make this a must buy. Hellegers is wonderful as he has done work before for Cooper and does the same with this.

Thisis all 4 books set in at a Batchelor party where all of a sudden a portal appears suckling all of the guys into another realm. This realm is based on various Asian ,Tibetan, and other cultures. The author gives some great meditation ideas! Watchout for the tropical talking bird!! Narrator does a Great job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline

Intriguing series of mysticism, religion, and comedy.

This was an entertaining book however, towards the last book it got a little drawn out. I still enjoyed the book, especially the comments by Roger, what a crazy bird.
