I like the overall concept of the story; a orphan girl suddenly becoming a arrogant and willful stepsister of a book’s male lead and wanting to change the story is really amazing. I'm sucker for these kind of stories...but I honestly dont know how to feel about the romance here.

Once again, we have a male lead who acts like very cold outside but warm inside chasing a girl. This time, however, the girl is 16 years old. While the age difference was never pointed exactly and it's probably only like 5-6 years, his attitude kinda bothers me. It goes from cute to questionable and stalking then back to cute again real fast and I dont like the way he shamesly shoehorns himself into every aspect of her life. Of course our female lead doesnt even realize it because she's too dense which sucks because SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE SMART!!!

For now, it feels like more like he is kinda stalking kinda ''guiding her to the right choices and the path'' instead of some actual ''grooming'' so I'll let it pass. If the male lead crosses any lines though ;

I like the other aspects of the story such as the the mother daughter relationship and the way it progresses. I like the way Li Sitong understands her actions as a mother impacts her child and she cant just change things around now because her daughter, Gu Xuejiao, has suddenly changed and finally doing good for herself.

I feel like it is something true in almost all Asian like cultures including my own. I dont remember how many times my mother had spout things like what Li Sitong says when I was a teen and I did it to my mother as well. I like the way the story portrays that relationship, with ups and downs, just like in the real life.

I also like Gu Xuejiao's relationship with her step-father and the 2nd male lead whom is probably going to be friendzoned soon. Ah, such a nice guy. They never get the girl do they? (ಥ ͜ʖಥ)

To sum up; so far so good.

...Will go back to this review when I MTL this shit and end up with my eyes bleeding.

DNF at 51/123. I liked the male lead and was really looking forward to more of him. What I got instead was a lot lot of the second male lead, who is annoyingly very in the way of my main ship. Sure it's a bit unfair of me, but I can't help but hate him for that, even though he's actually is a pretty decent guy. I stayed up late reading this book, not because it's good, but because I kept hoping for more progress in the main couple's relationship. I didn't get it, and it IS a good thing considering their age difference, so sure, I can take that. But the rest of the plot didn't bring me much joy either.

Some really extreme family members all around, kind of like flies who kept coming to disgust you. The studying process didn't really stand out, either, since I've been reading a few school-age books lately. The constant focus on how ultra gorgeously beautiful the female lead is was a turn off as well, because I knew whenever it was mentioned that some guy was gonna fall in love with her, usually the second male lead. Made me paranoid, really. Overall, none of the characters brought me joy, even the main character the female lead, whom I feel neutral about, and except the male lead a bit, so I've lost my patience and will be moving on.

The FL is really determined and doesn't give up, which I admire a lot. The novel also shows complex family relations.

To be honest, my least favourite part was the romance aspect. Most of it was ok, but I especially dislike the age difference, it's a 26 chasing a 16 (actually 18), but it still feels icky. Especially since with the transmigration she could be 22 instead of 18, her age is only raised enough for it to be "legal". I get that the ML needs to be older to justify the powerful CEO position, yet I wish the FL was closer in age at least mentally. Every time the ML did a nice thing, it felt like grooming. I have to say that the ML acknowledges the age difference and "waits".

Other than that, the ML is supportive and the romance doesn't feel like it's the focus of the novel, so it didn't bother me that much.

While the summary makes this books seem like a school life comedy about studying, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it tackled darker subjects like mental health, suicide, and the repercussions of your actions due to stress, pressure, and jealously.

It also tackled family relationships really well. Just because you say you're doing it "for your own good" doesn't mean you can force your ideas onto your children and not listen to them. I really liked how Gu Xuejiao and her family slowly worked on their relationship with each other to finally have a happy family that listens and supports each other.

I expected the typical coming of age school novel and this delivered more including details of daily school life and the college entrance exams process without feeling cold. The humor and tragedy sections were well balanced.

The best part of this novel is the close multi year romance between the leads and the author’s ability to show realistic emotions in the parent-child relationships. Definitely, worth reading once.

I read this years back, and if you're wondering on if this book is worth a try, or if you're still new to cnovels, then this is a pretty good introduction to the tropes of cnovels. I.e, age gap relationships, focus on education and forming correct values, toxic parental relationships, and having a certain level of self esteem and integrity.

(Which goes hand in hand with forming correct values lol)

This novel really teaches you about how short life is, how you should love everyone around you and how to love yourself. Everyone will die one day it just depends on when- some will die of accidents, some will die of diseases and others will die natural deaths.

The school arc was way to long and slow burn, I still don't like the 2nd ML, I just don't like those cliché immature loyal puppy-like types. The ML is(sadly) also the classic ‘bossy CEO’ type, but I still prefer him over the 2nd ML, so all is well.

The MC isn't a genius, she just works really hard-though, her EQ is really low.

I love the MC's family, yet hate them at the same time, they didn't even realise that Xue Jiao wasn't actually their real daughter. Li Sitong is really just your typical Asian parent, Chang Shuo and Cheng Mingze are just your overprotective brother/dad.

I guess I can relate to how, no matter how hard you try, if you don't get a good score then all they do is scold you. They always complain about how you aren't as good as 'so and so' , say how fortunate you are to be born in a family where you don't have to earn money early, put pressure on you, and never actually TRY to understand you. All they do is put all they're regrets and grievance upon their children.

I don't actually mind the 9 year age gap between the MC and ML, because(technically it's only 7) I guess I read too much stuff with bigger age gaps than this, but I guess some people might not like how the age difference is so big.

I still don't like Yin Fang, but I completely ship her with Li Ping.

I want to see more of Cheng Mingze, Chu Sheng, Li Juexue, Zheng Jiakun, Zhang Han, Yang Zhan, Mai Jiajia, Ding Qi and(of course) Shu Lan, but alas, you can't get everything you want.

I like how they extras didn't just stop on their marriage, but actually showed their whole life.

I don't like how quick the confession and marriage was, like the author made up events JUST to get them together e.g
