Determined to stop Saar from enacting his nefarious plans, Carey is faced with an impossible choice. With darkness pressing in on all sides, the question is this - what is she willing to sacrifice in order to win?
My first Young Adult novel, The Order of the Rose, was published in 2013 with its sequel, the Dragon's Heart, in 2019. The final instalment will be release December 2020.
In addition to writing the Rose Chronicles trilogy, I am researching for a queer YA historical fiction novel set in 1788.
My author influences range from Jay Kristoff to Isobelle Carmody with a particular love of any author who can take me away from reality for a bit.
When I'm not writing I love to create cosplay outfits for my family, bake ridiculous desserts, take on a new hobby, or add to my ever-expanding wardrobe of vintage-styled clothing.
This book! Alysha King’s writing was great in the first book and fantastic in this one! We follow Carey’s journey with the support of her friends and the adventure continues! I won’t do spoilers - but - Damn you for making me cry!
This book has left me as an emotional wreck, and I love it.
The third installment in the Rose Chronicles series, and by far the best! This book focused on some characters that hadn't gotten much page time, and I really enjoyed getting to know them better. I feel like all the characters really stepped up in this book, and I understood their motivations a lot more.
The Innocent was also paced incredibly well, with the perfect mix of action and discussion. And the plot! I was left guessing right until the end. This is one of the books that will stay in your head (and heart) for a long time after reading it.
This book. This BOOK. Where do I even start? Alysha, how dare you toy with my heart this way. I experienced so many emotions reading this final instalment to Alysha King’s The Rose Chronicles. I laughed, I cried, I screamed out loud (at WORK).
Boy oh boy. It actually took me a while to get through this one because I could only read bits at a time until my heart went into overdrive and I had to go make a cup of tea and breathe. The Innocent was action packed start to finish, even more so than the other two books in the series. There was not one point where I was bored.
The writing style was the same as the first two: third person, past tense. And we followed the same main protagonist, Carey Lee who I might add is awesome! She had a habit of irritating me through the first two books but her character really developed by the end of this one and she’s definitely on my list of favourite female protagonists now. I also loved seeing how Alysha’s writing style has developed and flourished over this series! It makes me so proud.
I enjoyed the world building of this book! We got to travel more places and experience more magic. We also got to know the characters better and see them develop into themselves!
This book was a great conclusion to a fun trilogy! Every question I had along the way was answered and that ending. Just wow. I can’t. I just, it was heart wrenching and perfect!
I can’t really say much more without giving away spoilers, but just know I thoroughly enjoyed this book (and series)! I’d definitely recommend these books to any fans of Harry Potter or Throne of Glass.
