Scarred: Trey and Autumn

Rate this book
For Autumn Hickman, online dating has been an exercise in nothing more than coffee and failure. There simply isn’t a man on the planet who can compare to her best friend, Trey Wattson. And while Trey is everything Autumn has ever wanted in a partner, she knows the man who loves life’s most beautiful things could never cherish anything as scarred and mangled as her.

Trey Wattson is in love with his best friend, but he can't seem to reach her. She’s guarded, and for good reason, but Trey doesn’t care. He knows Autumn’s soul, and it’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. Desperate to claim Autumn’s heart for his own, Trey conspires with The Wolves to create a fake profile on the dating site Autumn frequents. But the more Autumn trusts Trey’s online persona, the more it becomes clear that Trey is gambling with the very thing he wants most of all.

Return to Tess Thompson’s beloved Cliffside Bay and discover for yourself why true love is built on honesty and trust, and why best friends often make the very best life partners, in this anonymous online romance set in your favorite charming small town.

Tess Thompson Romance...hometowns and heartstrings.

Tess Thompson is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary and historical Romantic Women’s Fiction with over 60 published titles. When asked to describe her books, she could never figure out what to say that would perfectly sum them up until she landed on, Hometowns and Heartstrings.

She’s married to her prince, Best Husband Ever, and is the mother of their blended family of four kids and five cats. Best Husband Ever is seventeen months younger, which qualifies Tess as a Cougar, a title she wears proudly. Her Bonus Sons are young adults with pretty hair and big brains like their dad. Daughters, better known as Princess One and Two, are teenagers who make their mama proud because they’re kind. They’re also smart, but a mother shouldn’t brag.

Tess loves lazy afternoons watching football, hanging out on the back patio with Best Husband Ever, reading in bed, binge-watching television series, red wine, strong coffee and walks on crisp autumn days. She laughs a little too loudly, never knows what to make for dinner, looks ridiculous kickboxing in an attempt to combat her muffin top, and always complains about the
rain even though she chose to live in Seattle.

She’s proud to have grown up in a small town like the ones in her novels. After graduating from the University of Southern California Drama School, she had hopes of becoming an actress but was called instead to writing fiction. She’s grateful to spend most days in her office matchmaking her characters while her favorite cat Mittens (shhh…don’t tell the others) sleeps on the desk.

She adores hearing from readers, so don’t hesitate to say hello or sign up for her newsletter:

efforts.

Much to her father’s horror, you can find her everywhere on social media.

Have you ever read a book and thought it deserved a standing ovation? I recently read Scarred: Trey and Autumn by Tess Thompson and felt it was that amazing.

Ms. Thompson has created an emotional story with unexpected twists and characters that feel so realistic you will want to reach into the book and hug them. She has crafted scenes that will leave you laughing and others that will make you cry.
This is a wonder friends to lovers story with hope, healing, second chances and a little shenanigans.

While this book can be read as a stand alone, it would be best to read them in order to fully appreciate the story.

I recieved an ARC and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

With each book in the Cliffside Bay Series, every time I think the story can’t get any better or more intense, it does. The story of Trey and Autumn is something I think a lot of people will be able to identify with. We are all Scarred, some scars may be on the outside, but there are plenty of ways to be scarred on the inside.

Tess Thompson writes with such heartfelt emotion, you can’t help but be drawn to her stories. From the very first page, the eloquence of the her words has you captivated from the start. There are times in this story you want to just reach into the story and shake the characters. The story will definitely evoke your emotions.

I can’t recommend this series or this book enough! Each book in the story can be read as a stand alone but I recommend you read them in order to get the full effect of the stories. Reading this series is like visiting old friends. Each time you open the next book they come back and you may even find some new friends along the way.

There are times when you take a book journey that you fall more in love with the characters and the places they live each time you visit. This is one of those stories that did just that for me. A return to Cliffside Bay and spending time with Trey and Autumn in Scarred has touched me heart and soul. Tess Thompson brought me into the lives of these two characters completely with passion that made me yearn for them to find their way to each other's hearts.

Trey and Autumn are best friends. They are comfortable with each other and do things together but they both have scars that have caused them to put up "walls" to protect themselves from being hurt. Trey wants to take it to the next level with Autumn, but he's been hurt in a relationship before. His scars are internal. Autumn doesn't feel like she's beautiful enough for Trey because of scars from an accident. Hers are external. Can Trey find it in himself to heal his heart enough to risk it to Autumn? Can Autumn find the courage to reveal what she's been hiding since the accident and trust Trey to accept her flaws? This story is one of letting go of painful pasts and heartaches. It's one of finding forgiveness and hope. It's a story that trust and faith in someone doesn't come easy. Can true love overcome and break down the walls built from the scars each one bears?
""We all have scars," Lisa said." "They make us human."...."that everyone has scars. It's what we choose to do with them that defines who we are.""

This is a great story that brings together all the characters who live in Cliffside Bay. They are friends and family that look out for each other and are connected by bonds of love and friendships. They are characters who have become like my family and friends. I love reconnecting with them in each and every book I read in this series. Tess Thompson has a wonderful gift of making these characters become living beings in my mind and I'm stepping into Cliffside Bay to be with them.

As I read this book, I turned each page knowing I was going to have my emotions tugged, my heart touched and my senses awakened. This book has surprises, twists, and drama I never saw coming. It has tenderness, romance, compassion, and hope. It has all the things that make a Tess Thompson novel one that I look forward to reading each and every time. She writes such beautiful passages that touch my heart. This one in particular:
"Shouldn't that be how all love is? Unconditional? Even when we make mistakes, we're still loved?"

I am honored to have read Tess Thompson's Scarred: Trey and Autumn. I loved it from the first page to the last. I love going to Cliffside Bay and spending time there....and I'm excited for the next book in the series. Thank you, Ms. Thompson, for this wonderful read!

Trey likes pretty things and Autumn feels she isn’t one of the pretty things. No only was she
in a bad accident years ago and was left with a disfigured leg and hip , she grew up poor , hand me down clothes, scarce food and love
Trey is in love with his “ Best Friend “ Autumn, he wants more.
Autumn wants a relationship, she’s currently trying on-line dating. She doesn’t want to date Trey and ruin what they have , should she ?

Return to cliffside bay and the friends you love and the family Tess Thompson has so beautifully written for you to be a part of !
Laugh , cry and fall in love again and again

Trey’s painful past have brought him back to Cliffside Bay looking for a fresh start. After what he experienced, he was not looking for love or a relationship but that was before he met Autumn. They are part of the same circle of friends and as they spend time together he wants to be more than friends but convincing her is more difficult than he thought.

Autumn has had to live with the scars that she received from an accident when she was a teenager. She has seen firsthand the effect they have on others which as a result have left her feeling that she is not good enough when it comes to others. She has created a close group of friends but after being burnt is cautious when it comes to men.

Trey is determined to show Autumn that they belong together even if it involves a little subterfuge but will it bring them closer or tear them apart?

It is always fun to visit Cliffside Bay and this story is no different. It is a story about two people who both have painful pasts for different reasons which has made it difficult for them to open their trusts but there is no denying that they are perfect for each other.

Another great Cliffside Bay book! I love going back again and again to visit our friends in Cliffside Bay! This one is about Autumn and Trey. We met Autumn in the first books with the Dogs when Kyle reconciles with his brother, Stone, and his sister, Autumn. We learn about their lives and what happened with Autumn in a few of the books. Trey was introduced when the Wolves are first introduced into the series. We learn a lot more about Trey and his background, his marriage and what happened when it fell apart and his family. This is a great friends to lovers book. Autumn is so closed off to everyone and doesn’t let people in to see what’s on the outside or on the inside. And she has so many people around her who love her and help her see that her scars don’t define her. I loved Trey. He is such a caring guy and even if he had some bad advice from his friends on how to win Autumn over, he doesn’t do it from a mean place. This book is definitely another Cliffside Bay book you can’t miss. Make sure you read about the latest couple and get a chance to see what’s happening in the lives of all our other old friends too!

Trey and Autumn are both Scarred.
Trey mentally from the break up of his marriage and Autumn physically from a car crash in her teens.
Autumn and Trey are best friends but Treys feelings have grown stronger than friendship.
Over time Treys heart has started to heal from his previous breakup and he wants more than friendship with Amber and so with the help of his friends they have the not so bright idea of setting up a fake profile on a dating site so he can converse with Amber via email and try to work out her feelings for him.
What could possibly go wrong?
I previously started reading healed book 8 in the series but couldn't quite get into it and didn't finish the book and although this book also took me quite a while to get into I persevered and found that I did enjoy it.
I think once the emails started going back and forward between Autumn and Trey you got to understand them a lot more and the inner scars they were hiding, which drew me more into the book.

Yet another great story in the Cliffside Bay series! 5 amazing stars for this one!
If you've been reading along in this series, you know Autumn, and all that her and her brothers have been through. Shes looking for her perfect match like everyone else seems to be finding these days! So dating apps it is, but it's one loser after another.
Her best friend Trey, helped her set up her dating profile, what was he thinking, he's in love with her! Can he make her see that he is the one for her!
Read along and enjoy their story, I can't wait for the next one in the series, and oh I never want it to end either!! Grab your copy asap!

This was the first book I have read in this series and from this author and I am glad that I did. It was a great book. This book will have you feeling all types of emotions. Everyone has scars and they aren’t always visible to the naked eye. Autumn and Trey are not an exception to this rule. They both have scars that have shaped who they are in the present. Trey and Autumn have been best friends for some time and this was a great friends to lovers’ story. As their relationship starts to progress, they will start to heal the scars that they have.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Another wonderful story from Tess Thompson. Scarred is the story of Autumn and Trey, and of course there are some of the delightful characters from previous books in this series. I love the coastal setting, the tight knit friendships and families, their beautiful homes, the food, the wine...all told through Thompson's flawless and descriptive prose. Emotional, touching, thought provoking. Anyone who loves a good contemporary romance with just enough humor, drama, and heat needs to read this. The whole series, actually. In order. Although it works as a standalone too. I loved it!

Scarred: Trey and Autumn (Cliffside Bay #8) by: Tess Thompson

Scarred dares readers to be vulnerable and that makes for the best kind of storytelling. Thompson doesn't hold anything back, she aims right for the heart and scores a direct hit. Trey and Autumn are a reminder of how beautiful love can be. If our emotions are willing to take the risk. My eyes have yet to dry from such a captivating, heartbreaking, soul shaking, magic carpet ride.

It was about time these two hot together. They were best friends that had different scars but secretly in love with each other. They didn’t want to lose the other as friend but Trey couldn’t stand back and watch Autumn try to date. They got close but then thinks went south. There was an incident that opened up her eyes and realized hat what Trey did was out of love.

This one touches deep. So many of us, for whatever reason, hide our "scars" from the world. I pray that one day, like Autumn and Trey, I too, can set myself free.

Trey and Autumn’s romance was such a great friends to lovers. I loved the pining and the unrequited love going on on both sides. The purity of his love for her was so beautiful, yet heartbreaking because it was so very clear how much he wanted and needed her. He was smitten with her and totally done for her. It was just Autumn that didn’t realize it. The lengths he was willing to go for her to show he was totally in love with her was great.

I thought it was hilarious that the wolf pack where the ones to suggest about posing as someone else on the dating app she was using to get her to fall for him. Even though I knew it wouldn’t be good thing when she found out, I thought it was very endearing to hear his true feelings for her through the emails.

Then I loved seeing them get closer as the story progressed, and he showed her that her scars didn’t matter to him. The pool scene was very sensual and intimate. The chemistry was very much felt in those moments.

I loved all the family and friends scenes as both sides rooted for Trey and Autumn to be together. I’m very interested in their stories in this series because I became attached to them.

My only issue with this was that it was a closed door romance. I just waiting for them to have that moment after the build up. It was there, but it was a fade to black. I think if that momentum wasn’t teased and the prelude was shown I wouldn’t have been as disappointed that there was a time skip to the next morning.

Other that I loved it. It was even better than I was expecting. This was friends to lovers done right with the longing, pining and unrequited love. It just hit where I wanted it to. It just worked overall.

Autumn has physical scars that have prevented her from getting involved with anyone. Trey has emotional scars from his horrible ex-wife, making him unavailable. Pursuing a man like that is not worth it until he is ready, believe me.

And now Trey is finally admitting that he is in love with Autumn, but isn't sure how to convince her to take their friendship to the next level.

Trey and the Wolves concoct a plan, with her brother Stone's permissions, to create a fake profile on the dating site she has been using to try to win her over that way. They liken it to the movie You've Got Mail. I am really torn on this tactic, because it could go either way. She's either going to be swept off her feet or extremely pissed that he lied to her. A good book will have elements of both.

I have no idea what I would do in that situation. In my younger years, I may have swooned. Now I feel the opposite. But at the same time, it is giving him some insight on how to get through to her. I admit I kept vacillating through the story.

Trey's pain is familiar to me as I went the opposite in my longest relationship, starting with dating the man who was so scarred by his ex-wife to becoming best friends instead. Autumn's pain actually makes me want to cry as she goes through the motions of self-doubt.

Autumn's scars, of course, go much deeper that just the physical ones, including bits of her past and upbringing, which are also discussed in other books featuring her brothers. She is given an amazing opportunity to reconnect with someone from her past that made me emotional. And then a whole scene with some of the other women sharing their own scars literally brought me to tears.

Another great installment in this series.

Thank you to the author and publisher for my advance review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Autumn and Trey enjoy each other's company and have spent many days leisurely searching for antique treasures together. When Trey discovers that his feeling for Autumn are more than friendship, he is afraid Autumn might not return his feelings. Additionally, they each are constantly dealing with complicated family issues that seemed to get in the way of them voicing their true feelings. This amazing story about two fearful and scarred victims with heartbreaking pasts will touch your heart. As the plot thickens, unknown danger and loss seem to follow Trey and Autumn's every step. Take a trip to Cliffside Bay and meet these wonderful people and their friends. It's a visit you will not easily forget. Good Read!!!!!

Book 8 of the Cliffside Bay series, but the tenth I've read, counting the novellas.
I love that I kinda know what is going to be the conclusion, but knowing how Tess's stories evolve, I am aware that it won't be a straight path.
Scarred is the story of the pairing together of Autumn, the scarred sister of Wolf, Stone, and Trey, one of the Wolves pack. Again, plenty of loose threads from previous books are tied up, but there are a good few left dangling, so you know the next book has some work to do!

So you think you can impersonate someone via email… well you can as long as you can get away with it. Trey really needs to figure it out. Does he, will he be able to woo Autumn?
Autumn has scars not jut physical, but emotional just like Trey. Can two people who are destined to be together fit?
I want to laugh because every single story I have read I love, it sounds so redundant. But yes I can honestly say I love the story very much.

Beautiful

They say that men & women can't be friends but we know that is not true. But Trey had been hurt in his divorce and never thought about it again until he met Autumn. Autumn was afraid of relationships after being hurt in a car accident as a teen. But the two of them are something.

This book related to much of what I have been dealing with in my own life. Tess Thompson covers a wide scope of emotions in her writing. Love, loss, betrayal and ultimately hope and faith. Ms Thompson has a talent with the written word that has me coming back for each new book in this series. They are very well written and well edited.

Unknown Love

Trey and Autumn were very good friends and spent a lot of time together. As time passed by they feel in love. Trey knew it way before Autumn did but didn't want to admit it. The story is about how they finally find love. They had a plot of obstacles in the way before they could admit they were in love. Very good book.

A great read

This story tells the tale of two people who's past scars almost keep them from falling in love. What a wonderful cast of characters and a great, clean story. I'm so glad I've read these in series order or I might have lost some of the quality that comes from knowing all the supporting characters.

Another lovely book in this series!

As always, I’m glad that I’ve read this series in order. So fun to know backstories.
Albeit mostly predictable, there were some good twists and turns to make it more entertaining. This author is very good at making the character both sympathetic and understandable.

Scarred

It's been a while since I read a book in this series, I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the characters. Autumn made Trey and Autumn's story a bit frustrating at times with her negativity, even when he proved to her he wasn't worried about her scars.
Another enjoyable read from Tess Thompson.

Captivating Story

This is a wonderful story of complex imperfect characters struggling with external and internal scars. Anyone who has dealt with issues about their body will relate to Autumn, the struggles to accept themselves and how rewarding that is. Another book I highly recommend. By by
