Running away may be the bravest thing she's ever done ...
Usually unflappable Meghan finds herself at a crossroads when ex-flame, Jackson Riley, becomes her boss. She'd made a promise to Jackson's father to stay working for the chain of inns, but can Meg keep her word?
After his father's untimely death, brooding Jackson has something to prove to everyone around him--especially Meg. It doesn't help that she is suspicious of his every move.
When an unsettling accident grounds Meg from travel, she reluctantly begins working full-time from her office at Sea Glass Inn. But when Jackson's antagonistic sister and Meg's tight-lipped mother stir up mounting tensions between Jackson and Meg, she flees--injury and all.
Will an unplanned trip to the ancient Italian city of Florence and beyond bring answers that reignite old passions? Or will the miles push Jackson and Meg farther apart?

Meg loves her job as a sales events manager for a small chain of hotels and is great at it. Her job is to generate group sales where the groups stay in the hotels for their conferences. This involves lots of traveling. Her mentor, William Riley, gave her a start and loved her as a daughter but he passed away suddenly. His son, Jackson, and Meg dated for a while when William was alive but Jackson didn't really appreciate his father at the time. Jackson left to work elsewhere and Meg was left dangling, unsure of where their relationship was going. After William's death, Jackson returns to run the hotel chain and encountered a cold shoulder from Meg. Then, Jackson's half sister Pepper showed up and is a terror to everyone around. Jackson found out about Pepper after his father died but the two are working together to run the hotels. Pepper has it in for Meg for some reason and does everything that she can to put Meg in a bad light. Meg and Jackson had an argument on the beach and when running away from him, Meg fell and broke her foot. Her injury led her to depend on the help of Jackson and others, including an unexpected visit from her mom to help her. Neither Meg nor Jackson is over their past relationship. But Pepper's allegations cast a rift between them. William always told Meg that Italy was the place to go to get past problems. At a low point, she leaves work in anger. She goes to Italy thinking that she will visit William's old attorney friend Domenic and his wife Elena in Florence. But she didn't tell Jackson or anyone at work where she was. Meg's mom was the only one other than her friend Liddy who knew where she was. Concerned about Meg, Jackson followed her to Italy after finding out from her mom where she has gone. Things are going on within the hotel chain that is causing the business to have serious financial problems. Why? Jackson is torn between working things out with Meg and saving his family business. What does Pepper have it in for Meg? Why is Pepper so mean to everyone? What are her problems? This is a romance with suspense running through it. And a surprise discovered by Meg accidentally while at the home of Domenic and Elena changes things, bringing on more questions. Ms. Carobini has created a group of realistic characters and a complicated plot with twists and turns that have to be unraveled to find answers. Things are not always as they seem. This is a great read!
I wrote this as a follow up to Walking on Sea Glass, the first book in the Sea Glass Inn series. Runaway Tide is the story of Meg (Liddy's best friend) doing what she does best - running to far off places, in this case the ancient city of Florence, Italy and the Italian coast. If your old flame had suddenly become your boss, isn't that what you might do? :-) I'm excited to say that Runaway Tide was given 4 Stars from Romantic Times (RT Book Reviews) and the reviewer said, "Fast paced with unexpected twists ..." I hope you enjoy it, too.
Runaway Tide is a sweet romance with a tad of mystery and suspense. The setting is so well done. I loved the part set in Italy. Carobini writes with emotion and leaves the reader with a sense of peace.
I very much enjoyed this second installment in the Sea Glass Inn series by Julie Carobini. The characters are colorful, changing as the story progresses, which is always a good sign. I especially like the main character, Meg, who has a good heart in spite of her sometimes tenuous situation. The romance has its ups and downs, as Pepper tries to sabotage it and them at every turn.
The settings in this book are idyllic, from CA to Florida to Italy. Loved seeing the sights through the eyes of the characters.
The mystery aspect of the story carries on right to the end, and is handled well. Another layer to this very readable story.
A few themes I picked up on are: people are not always what they seem, do your best and trust in God, there is a continual confrontation between good and evil in our world. Look for more when you read it yourself.
I really wanted to just dive into this book and enjoy it. The plot was good, and the setting well-crafted. But the characters were a pain to read. Some of the action seemed implausible to me. And the constant and persistent inability of the MCs to simply talk to each other was painful to wade through. This was also marketed as an inspirational romance, but other than a few prayers thrown around here and there, there wasn't much evidence of spiritual growth in either of the MCs. I like to see that in an inspirational fiction book. Having said that, this does read something like a Hallmark movie, so if those are your jam, you might enjoy this book.
Runaway Tide: A Sea Glass Inn Novel by Julie Carobini
This was a story that follows the first with an ongoing love Story of the lives you wanted to follow from book to book. If you like a nice clean story with no sex or vulgar language this one will be for you! Romance and some mystery as well. I could not put it down read just a day and two hours lovely ending. I recommend to read the first novel Sea Glass Inn.
Enjoyed this book! Wasn't just a typical romance, actually had multi layers keeping my interest along the way. LOVED the way travel was weaved into the story, definitely gave me a trip, if only in my mind, traveling with the characters. Add in friendship, complicated personal family history, false representation, embezzlement, and love ...... you've got a full story. One negative was the relationship between Meg & Jackson went back & forth a little to much - but that's what kept me reading!
Your father that you barely knew has died and now you're taking over his business, along with your half sister that you've never met before. She's brash, rude, and disagreeable to all of the staff. I said thing since your father had made his boutique hotel line of a place where people could work and actually enjoy a camaraderie with the staff members whose common goal is Providing a great guest experience. Excellent, highly recommended!
Meg and Jackson had many ups and downs in their on again, off again relationship. They had parted ways thinking the other had given up, but came to find out there were other circumstances.
I loved the time they were in Italy. Having been to Europe a few times myself, I really enjoyed that section of the book.
Loved this story! A great romance novel with a little mystery & suspense near the end. All the characters were well written & so was the story. Some will have either a redundant or confusing part. This story has neither. It's just a superb novel & clean Romance for which I'm thankful.
The story was engaging but the main characters weren’t as fleshed out as I wish. It wrapped up abruptly with the “bad guy” getting caught but after 90% of the book being about William, the Inn, Meg and Jackson, the story needed more near the end to make the last chapters more believable.
This was about interesting people and the working of the hotel industry. It is about family and trust and finding one's way through life as we live and love. This was fun and exciting and a little crazy but we'll worth the time. It was one of my best journeys.
Meg and Jackson’s story did not disappoint! I love reading Julie Carobini’s books and watching her develop her characters and watching how their relationships evolve. Her books are always fun with a little bit of mystery and angst thrown in for good measure!
Thankfully, this story was more than just a couple trying to sort through feelings and misinterpreted signals. A little mystery, a little intrigue and a little romance made for a light, but good clean read.
Meg and Jackson seemed well-suited to one another, but I didn't trust Jackson. For a grown-up, he seems not to play well with others. His sister? Well, she's a piece of work! Throw in a little suspense, and you've got a story.
Wow! I'm amazed at the God given talent He gives to authors who go out of their way to bring His love and forgiveness into an edge of your seat...surprises around each corner (aka chapter)! I loved this sequel to this modern Christian fiction series! I can't wait to read the next one!
I enjoyed this book very much, the back and forth of the story, the time in Italy, and back to the States, he intrigue of finding out why Pepper disliked Meg so much and of course the ending
I didn't see some of that coming. I guessed incorrectly on some of it, as well. Quite a few twists and runs in Meg and Jackson's relationship. I would love to visit Italy now. The author's describes it so beautifully.
I liked the characters, and especially the turn the plot took to straighten things out. A lot of emotions drawing an eagerness to finding out just how it could end well.
Met een goede portie Italië *zucht*. Een leuke roman met genoeg aantrekkingskracht en obstakels. Ik had niet verwacht dat het boek een bijna maffia-achtige wending zou krijgen. Genoeg actie in dit boek!
This is a Sea Glass Inn Novel and it is book number two. I read the print edition of this book and really enjoyed it It is a romance that moves along really good. Julie hit the ball to the outfield for a triple!
