What happens when you take a woman disguised like a man and throw her in one of the most hostile prisons in the world?
**Warning: If you haven't read The Tomb: Exposed this blurb may contain spoilers!**
Ana
Well, the jig is up, and I was discovered. Instead of the inmates turning on me, I’m now Boss-Bitch of The Tomb. Wasn’t expecting that one. Everything seems to be going great for us, the inmates respect and fear me and I don’t have to disguise myself for the first time in a decade. Even Ax seems to be doing better since I took over. Everything was going great, until the day our shipment from the outside didn’t show up. The drugs ran out and we’re running low on food when the decrepit prison speakers crackle for the first time in years. Are the guards coming back into The Tomb after all this time? And if they find out I’m a woman, what then?
Ax
I never thought I’d have a woman of my own, much less one I am proud to stand beside. She’s a ruthless Goddess, more than worthy to rule the savages of The Tomb. My addiction and the demons coursing through my veins have quieted and I’ve smiled more than ever before in my life. When the guards threaten Ana, years of suppressed rage over my mama’s death come boiling back. I don’t know if this time she’ll be able to pull me back. Will I be able to let go of the past in time to save Ana, or will I succumb to the fire once and for all?
Ella Burns is the offspring of a fairy queen and an undead warlord and was brought up with an appetite for terror and beauty. A Canadian author, she would like nothing more than to abscond to the remote wilderness of British Columbia with her daughter and a Kindle full of dark reads. Since she was a child she dreamed of being an author and now writes a variety of darkness across several genres. Despite her love of the macabre, she will always have a soft spot for fuzzy things and a cuppa tea.
Eeep! I think I liked book 2 even better because it has MAJOR "big boss lady energy" as much as I love Ax and come on, how can you not love a strong, dedicated, broody, sexy prison leader lol? Ana has really come into her own and has earned the respect of.....well most of the inmates.
Ensarned had me on pins and needles with the intensity and the suspense wondering what would happen next. The clock was running out for everyone and I didn't know who to trust or what decisions would be best!
I am counting down to book 3, it's a whole new world now and I can't wait to see what happens next.
The Tomb: Ensnared, Book 2 in The Tomb Series, has a lot going for it. First, it's Dark (with possible triggers for some), which I enjoy immensely. Second, it's Dystopian, which also floats my boat. Third, it's set in a men's prison, which conjures all sorts of possible intriguing scenarios. Lastly, it's got a tough as nails, kick ass heroine who likes to kill almost as much as the man she has fallen for. Put all this together with an action packed, entertaining storyline, and lots of interesting characters that you will become somewhat invested in, and you should already be reading this book! 4 Captivating Stars! (Reyne)
I love how all the covers for this series have the theme running through them. The strong image of the muscly, tattooed back of Axle, the main male character in the books.
Right at the beginning of this book there is a section about “the Split” which explains that it was a deadly virus that attacked and killed women. Men watched helplessly as their mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters died. Obviously, this made women a rarer, much more in demand commodity to be fought over. It caused a war that eventually ends in 2021. Two groups emerge from the war, The Watch and The Order. The world is renamed New Europe and anyone against this new regime is thrown into prison. Next in this book we are told the story of what happened to Axle and his mother when they first arrived at The Tomb. It gives much more insight into the character of Axle and how he became such firm friends with Ethan too, who also lost his mother in a similar way. Though Ax looks strong and unbeatable on the outside we know from reading the books so far that when it comes to Ana he has a much softer side as well as suppressing the hurt of losing his mother when he was so young. It is also revealed in this book exactly how he learnt his mother would not be coming back to him as promised. Its not the only revelation in the book, it turns out Axle has been keeping a rather large secret that many of the men in The Tomb would quite well kill to know! The fact that Axle has kept this secret and never used his knowledge of it gives an even deeper insight into his character. Until Ana came along and they find themselves in their current situation with the guards returning to the Tomb Axle seemed resigned to his fate of living out his life in the Tomb. After all he arrived as a very young child with his mother and hasn’t really known anything about the outside world. Is it possible Axle could be a little fearful of what is outside the Tomb. Is he worried he will not know how to protect what is his on the outside? Inside the Tomb he can fight and beat whoever challenges him, he has a contact outside that sends in supplies regularly so he doesn’t need or want to be on the outside himself.
The challenge that Ana and Axle face in Ensnared is that the usually on time delivery of supplies is late, not just a few days like has occasionally happened before. Its over a week late and those inside the Tomb are getting very restless. Even Ethan is looking anxious and feeling restless, no supply delivery also means no visit from Sammi, the Nun. The drug addicts are going into withdrawal, the tension inside the Tomb is building and as Ana is the Boss it is her that has to be seen to be dealing with everything. Ana has to display her toughness and the fact she isn’t afraid of a fight on more than one occasion in this book.
It soon becomes apparent that those outside the Tomb with the power over it have discovered somehow that Ana is in the Tomb. The guard who Axle hates, the one that took his own mother all those years ago now wants his woman! He wants to take Ana away from Axle. However, Ax is older now and he won’t go down without a fight! Maybe he wasn’t old enough to fight for his mother but he will fight for Ana. The guard in charge is called Richard, though Ax insists on calling him Dick much to the head guard’s annoyance. I think it’s the one jibe, or blow that Ax can get at the man who took his mother away from him. Dick delivers an ultimatum, hand the woman over or else suffer the consequences. At first Ana remains in charge of those in the Tomb but it becomes apparent there are those who would betray her in return for the smallest reward or favour from the guards. When the inevitable happens, Ana finds herself reunited with Sammi in a cell. Sammi is the prostitute that visited Axle at the prison as part of the supplies deal. Their first meeting didn’t go well at all and it is apparent that to begin with Ana looks down on Sammi and the things she has done to survive. Though as the two women confide their fears and past histories with each other they become much closer and end up banding together.
I loved the different terms of endearment used in this book, in fact the series so far. I quite enjoyed looking up the individual meanings, such as, fiametta ~ little flame, lijep ~ beautiful and tesoro ~ treasure. It clearly shows a softer, kind of romantic side to Axle and just makes you love his character even more! We are also introduced to a new character that hasn’t been mentioned before. His name is Crow and he is the only one to have ever successfully escaped from The Tomb, though he did have a little inside help. Crow has never forgotten who helped him and turns up in Ensnared at just the right time and place. It’s kind of hinted at that he will be featuring a little more in the series, so I am looking forward to learning more about him and discovering how he will become involved with my favourite characters.
I almost forgot that twice in this book a younger inmate called Ciaran tries to speak to Ana and Axle about something but each time he ends up pushed to the side with a promise of talking to him later. I can’t help but wonder what important information it is that Ciaran has to tell them? Hopefully that will be revealed in the next book? My immediate thoughts upon finishing the book were that Ensnared was another amazing dark instalment in this brilliant series. I can't decide who I love the most Axle or Ethan? And Ana & Sammi sure make a great team that should not be underestimated at all! Who is Crow? And what is his full story? Seriously looking forward to bk3......
To sum up this book answers to many questions that arose in the previous book but also has you asking so many more! I am certainly looking forward to reading more about Axle, Ethan, Ana and Sammi and what happens to them next!
Ana is the boss bitch of a bunch of savage inmates. This is what the Tomb got out of her, the woman, the more savage fighter, the actress, the lover, the therapist and last but not least the true face of a woman who hid half of her life to survive. Here the second book starts, Ax and Ana having a relationship and deepening it, growing with it, growing individualy as well as together. But it's just the start of their personal growth and development together. They play by rules together, when they are alone the dynamic between them is completely different as when she if performing her boss bitch ego. Ana has a playbook to have all the guys at edge. She earns respect and acceptance especially by the older ones who have daughters. “Did I ever tell you that you remind me of my daughter?” “Giorgia was her name,” he tells me, “And when she was just ten, her mother died. I loved that woman and couldn’t bear the thought of trying to marry again. But that also meant I would never have a son to take on my legacy. My men all told me I was crazy when I said I would groom Giorgia to walk in my footsteps, but I didn’t listen. I knew that the right woman in charge would be infinitely more ruthless, more calculating, than any man I could possibly bring in.” This is an excerpt of one point where one of the older prisoners explains why Ana is good at her position, because she is ruthless and savage if she needs to be. Axel on the other hand stays at her side and supports her leading while he teaches her some workflows and how they are handled the best. He relaxes more and more because he has his peace by his side with Ana and not not forget, he lead that bunch of guys over 15 years. This time where he watches, is cared for by his partner and also the therapeutic relationship he has. By time he begins to crack, to work on himself internally, his loss and the issues he has with losing important people he loves. Just as he is dealing with it, beginning to stomach his past step by step the sound system cracks and all they are demanding Ana. As the run against the time starts the betrayal hits them Hart and separate the lovebirds which crack open old wounds which started to heal and this time the bleeding is eminent and deadly. Both deepened enough to know that they can't exist apart from each other but they fight against the odds outside the door, Ax from within and Ana on the outside. Both develop so beautifully and you can see both crack open like a shell. For each other they are raw are bare with theire souls and when the point comes where the trust and love is on edge, the game is on to survive and fight. Both find help and also new Allies inside and out to find a way out of this lead by misery. Ana learns that Axel will be there no matter what to save the day and he gets the therapy he needs in the most savage way it could possibly be. Huh, I can't say how much I enjoyed this rollercoaster of love, trust and scars, of pain you could feel through the pages. It breaks your heart as Ella Burns dives into Ax childhood and all the memories, the pain, the wonderful moments of friendship and also the loneliness which was all that left at some point. I don't know how she does it, but this author cracks me up like a damn little sissy and I am a goner for that girl. 5 stars and even more if possible! I totally recommend this book and can just swoon about the well done job.
****** I was given an arc for an honest review *******
Ana and Ax's story continues In book 2 of the Tombs series. A shake up in leadership has left Ana ontop ruling the Tomb with Ax by her side. Ana doesn't have to hid the fact shes a woman anymore only to the guards but when a shipment doesnt arrive and their stocks dwindle will Ana be able to keep control over the other inmates and what will this mean when a voice from the outside is heard for the first time in years. Will Ax be able to keep the anger of the past locked up or will he unleash it when history seems to repeat itself once more. Can the King and Queen still rule the roost in the Tombs, are their days numbered or is freedom on the cards? Well written with a great story line thats played out well and easy to follow. The characters just get better and better and more in depth their stories go. With violence, revenge, loyalty, betrayal, desire and romance this book has it all and keep you gripped to every page.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I honestly was disappointed by the book. Don't get me wrong, I am super happy that they escaped but I really thought the first book ended on a good note for our couple. If anything, I grew to dislike how Ana handled things in this book. Particularly how she didn't fill our hero in on her plan and her weakness during the first escape. I also didn't like how she treated Sammi (though I understand why).
Not only that, I feel like Ax robbed Ethan his chance at protecting Sammi even if his mother was killed by the man. There was also still the lack of explanation of The Split again though there was more of one than the previous book. Still, Burns' writing is able to captivate me throughout the entirety of the book so I'm looking forward to the third book to see what the plan is from here on.

Jeez what a book I had a arc, I recommend you read book 1 in the series because you couldn't read this stand alone. It carries on the story of Axle and Ana, everything is great to start. She is the leader now, I think it's hard for her to keep up the tough guy appearances constantly. Any sign of weakness in the tomb is deadly, you find out more of Axle back story and the love for his mother. There are so many twists and turns in this story, it's brilliant. You meet the outside guards, they are just as bad as the criminals. Axle and Ana have to fight for their love, and boy they do lol. It features the same characters as book 1, but they are more together as a team fighting for survival. Aw and Sammie what a fighter she is to, and her selfless actions to help others. High recommended 5*
Book one was better in my opinion. This one didn’t make sense a lot at times. It couldn’t keep my attention. The Split was not well explained. It did a lot of fazing out when it got to a good part. The author was callous by letting so much bad happen to BOTH her heroines. Yes! Sammie is a heroine. You don’t get us invested in the heroine then let her get hurt so viciously. Did you forget that we (the reader) imagine that we are your heroine? Ax was in a daze the whole book! I just don’t understand how he became the top dog in the prison. It just didn’t make sense. I won’t even get into Crow who looked like a fool. The ending felt rushed. I was going to write more but I for one am done with this series.

The Tomb: Ensnared, Book 2 in The Tomb Series, has a very well crafted characters and well-developed story. It is a very Dark romance that is very detailed, with possible triggers. It is Dystopian romance which is intriguing. This book is set in a men's prison, which conjures all sorts of possible intriguing scenarios which leaves more to the imagination for this series. Another book to come, but I must go back and read book 1
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book in The Tomb Trilogy. Ms. Burns has completely blown me away. This book is even darker than the first.,A lot was explained and backgrounds were unveiled. I absolutely love Ana, Axle, and the gang! Ensnared contains triggers and very graphic scenes. I don't want to give anything away, but I am completely blasted silent from this book. I can't wait to read the final book in this trilogy. I recommend this book/series to those 18+ due to themes and sexual scenes. Thank you Ms. Burns for giving me an e-ARC of your book. This is my honest opinion.
This book is super challenging for me to review without spoilers! I’m gonna attempt though! Triggers all over this book. Read it with an open mind and know that it’s dark but not pitch black more like a charcoal.
After you go through the rollercoaster of Exposed you are faced with reading this literary genius of a woman who has found her safe place in the middle of a stone prison. Sexy doesn’t even cover what this book is. The lustful romance of Ana and Axel is intoxicating. Their chemistry and how they support each other through turmoil is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Highly recommend!
The drama with ana and axle continues. The secret is out and ana is now running the tomb. We learn about the split in this book and how axle came to be in the tomb. It was great to see how their relationship changes with ana now in charge and how she copes being ‘boss’ over so many men. This story just grips you from start to end! You don’t wanna put it down! The chemistry between ana and axle is fire even in such awful circumstances! I can’t wait for the next book!
The story of Ana and Axle continues, still in the Tomb, with roles reversed. I love how strong and brave Ana is and Axle is adjusting to his role at her side. Of course nothing good lasts forever. I like that the author is not afraid to hurt the characters for fear of upsetting the reader. I am enamoured with this messed up world and look forward to the next book in the series! 5 stars from me!
The Queen of the Tomb, standing beside her King getting shit done! Ana is a freaking badass! Everything is technically bliss in Ana and Axe’s world, if you can call it that considering their imprisoned, for a few weeks at least until shit hits the fan when the guards find out not only is their a women in the prison but that she is ruling them.
I really enjoyed book one, but book two was fantastic! Ana really showed who’s boss! I’m really excited to read book three!
WOW! Talk about one crazy story with one hell of a badass boss lady! I was utterly consumed and on the edge of my seat the whole way through! Ana and Axle are intense and willing to do anything to survive.
This story is action packed, filled with bloody parts and such a fantastic and entertaining storyline that there is no way you could put this one down.
I can’t wait to see how it all turns out in the next book!
I liked this book but Ana bothered me a bit in this one. Her judgements of Sammi (though I know some stemmed from jealousy) were just uncalled for. She disguised herself as an and has killed people to survive but she judged Sammi for the way she choose to survive. I like a lot of the side characters, Ethan, Sammi, Theo and Brutus. I like Axle a lot too. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in book 3.
After reading book 1 I was hanging out for book 2 and it didn't disappoint. With Ana and Ax now ruling - albeit precariously the dramas continue. Where is the shipment. What is going on. With the truth about Ana finally out and with Ax by her side I really hope she can keep things together. I love Ella Burns' writing and am patiently (yeah, right) waiting for more from this talented author.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 October 2020 This is the second part to this series. Following on from ana becoming queen of the tomb. She tried to bring structure and calm to the prison with axle right by her side. Watching both characters battle their pasts and present touches the heart at the violence and pain axle was still dealing with. Great book.
The story gets better, it is not only Ana and Axle, it is also the guards which is a whole different kind of crazy Just wish he story was not rushed and Ana could have stayed at the tomb a little bit longer Axle is a guilty pleasure as a book boyfriend Still, I inhaled the book
This is book 2 in the tomb series. I thought book 1 left me with wanting more but book 2 did as well even more! Just like book 1 this book is just as good as book 1.
This one took me a bit longer to finish, but I *did* indeed and woweeee it was such a ride! Hooray for freedom and vengeance and peace and love! Can't wait for more! 😍
I am loving this series and book 2 was just as great if not better than book 1 💜. I love the bad@$$ fmc and the sexy mmc. Even the side characters are great. The plot keeps you reading as well as the spice! Off to book 3. I'm so sad that it's almost over!! 😭
Ana and Axle find prison life bearable until things start to go wrong and now they must fight to survive the coming challenge. I voluntarily received this book for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story and the progress we see with the characters. The characters make the story for me and I very much enjoy the closeness with Ana and Axl.
Now that a woman is in charge of the tomb, how will she rule? With Axle by her side, Ana, the only female inmate, leads the prison, but external forces threaten her position setting a new course for her, Axle, and the entire prison. In the story, more is revealed about the evolution of this dystopian society as well as Axle's history and formative years.
This book was an entertaining read featuring new characters, the background of whom enriched the storyline. There were also additional character development of former characters. The pace was good, and the visual inspired by the story, gritty dystopian reminded me of the old Thunder dome movies. I really liked the suspense thriller element of this book as well as Axle's turmoil on full display, adding angst-filled drama to the story.
Overall, a great story though I found book 1 a more engaging read.
