You'll find yourself reined into stories with stalkers, conspiracy, unexpected turns, cut-throat competition, and love-at-first-sight romance. At the center of each story, of course, are the horses.

Better yet, the books in this collection are part of previously published series. The authors brought them together so readers could easily and inexpensively read the first book in each series from several different authors of adult equine fiction. There's plenty more horses, hearts, and havoc where these came from!

Saddle up for a thrill-ride that will leave you breathless and longing for more!

I have written stories and ridden horses–frequently simultaneously–for as long as I can remember. I grew up on Long Island and spent my formative years in the saddle–just imagining. After high school, I traveled to Ness, England and studied at a British Horse Society training school. This was an all-around amazing experience. When I left, I clutched a certification to teach riding in my hot little hand, and I enjoyed instructing riders for many years.

Who am I kidding? We know it is the horses who do the teaching. All we can do is try to remain open to what they have to say.

Now, I share a farm in Missouri with my family, but I have only one horse these days. Remi’s a Trakehner - thoroughbred - quarter horse cross, as easy a keeper and good minded as they get. We board him at a terrific place nearby.

Not surprisingly, my stories are frequently infused with the mystery and spirituality horses have brought to my life.

Like every box collection, this set will have a couple of books the reader likes, a couple that are stinkers, and the rest are OK.

I bought this set when it was first released in October, 2020. Actually got in on the pre-purchase special of 99¢. I knew for sure when I bought it that I had already read Bev Pettersen's book, Riding for Redemption, which I really liked but didn't need to read again. When I started reading book one in the set, Cut and Run, it seemed familiar to me. I checked my Kindle library and discovered I'd already read it a few years ago, and it's an OK book, not good enough to read again. So two down, leaving me 5 unread novels in this set. Still a good deal for 99¢.

On The Buckle - had a really dumb heroine. Who falls asleep in the barn when a bad guy with a gun is chasing her? And she bought tons of cans of whipped cream to squirt in her mouth like she's 10 years old. Not a likeable lead character at all.

In the Reins - it was OK read but not really my thing. Romance lovers would enjoy this one. Maybe. Depends if you like cowboy and rodeo stories.

Where the Bluegrass Grows - a well-written novel. Again, not really my type of novel, and I didn't like the leading man, but would definitely appeal to romance lovers who enjoy a good horse story too.

Show Barn Blues - I'm not into showing horses so I didn't think this novel would appeal to me. But oddly enough, it ended up being my favorite amongst the 5 I hadn't read. Lots of engaging people and horses and a bit of a mystery running throughout it. But no romance.

Through The Mist - there were a few story lines and back stories and old romances running throughout this novel. It was very well written, but for me would just fall under the OK category of a box set rating.

Stake Night - the competitive world of Saddlebred horse shows. Learned more than I ever needed to know about the industry! It was a very good read. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed reading about all the behind the scenes drama and the measures some trainers will go through for a win.

So there you have it. In my opinion this box set contains one stinker, three good novels, and three OK novels and is a good deal. Except.... it has disappeared from the book shelves. Good luck finding it. Gone from Amazon, Kobo, Smashwords, etc. The biggest story line might be what happened to the novel. Did the authors have a falling out in splitting the proceeds?

"Horses, Hearts, and Havoc" had something for everyone - from romance to mystery to adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed reading books from equestrian authors that I knew of but hadn't yet had the chance to read. I found some new favorites that I have already continued to follow and read. This was an excellent collection, and I'd highly recommend it for both horse lovers and those who enjoy good collections of books in a variety of genres.
