Roar: A Book of Animal Sounds

Rate this book
Crocodile lurks in the water, Tiger and Lion prowl through the jungle, Monkey swings through the trees and Snake slithers through the undergrowth in this beautifully illustrated picture book. Lift the giant flaps to reveal those strong, wide jaws, sharp teeth – and a flicky tongue! – and join in as the animals SNAP, HISS, and ROAR.

Part hide-and-seek, part lift the flaps, and part animal noises, this gorgeous jungle adventure will keep both children and their parents coming back time and time again.

This is a gorgeous, bright book that is absolutely perfect for young children. It has a multitude of jungle animals with flaps showing the noises each animal makes inside their mouths. This would be perfect for teaching children the names of animals and their corresponding sounds.

There's lots of alliteration in the story and great vocabulary choices which makes the text more enjoyable to read aloud. The author has clearly thought about the rhythm of the text to make the story engaging. This would be a brilliant bedtime story to share and engage with. The child would have great fun making the animal noises and joining in.

Adorable, big, colourful book. Lift the flap to open the jungle animals mouths and make their sounds. Roar, hiss and more.
I really enjoyed this book, read by Laura the Librarian, on the London Public Library's on-line "Books for Babies" program.

Cute but unoriginal, and having flaps made from standard picture book paper is a recipe for a damaged book.

Review to be added to Amazon UK and US on 1st october 2020 - publication day!

I read this book in bed with my daughter last night and she really enjoyed it!

It reminded me a little of the nursery rhyme - Row, Row, Row Your Boat and I think that was why my daughter enjoyed it so much, she also liked joining in and making the different noises so it was great for me as a mum to get her involved and active with the story.

The images were nice and bright and really brought the story to life too and they held my daughter's attention from start to finish too so this was definitely a winner in our house!

It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!!

This lift-the-flap book was a hit with my favorite 2-year-old, who absolutely loves animal sounds. I could get her to say the sound under the flap as I pointed to those words, associating sounds with the letters. The heavy paper used in the book was appreciated.
I'm hoping that later she will also appreciate the rhymes that anticipate the coming animal.
Yes, the favorite sound was, "Roar!"

A great rhyming animal book, similar to Gibbs' I Spy book where there is a preview of the animal and then the animal's noises with mouth flaps. Definitely going to use for a toddler storytime.

This type of book is usually done in board book format - I so appreciate the larger picture book which makes for a perfect book to share in baby storytime.

A fun book with animal sounds. There is a flap to lift the animal mouths to hear their sound. I liked the pictures of the animals in a bit of disguise in their natural habitat.

This is a rhyming book that teaches you lots of animals. The best part is how you lift up the flap and find the animal sound to practice with the little ones.

Always a huge hit at storytime! Have the kids guess what animal is being described, then have them practice their animal sounds when the flap gets lifted.
