Here & Hereafter: Afterlife Lessons For Meaningful Living

Rate this book
Do you want to live more meaningfully, and in turn fulfill your life’s potential? Do you want to have the capability to transform your life and make it infinitely better, by paying attention to what those who have lived and died have come to understand about the meaning of life itself?

As one of the world’s most accomplished mediums, Tyler Henry has had thousands of communications with those who’ve already gone through humanity’s final frontier: physical death.

The life lessons he’s learned from those conversations have been truly transformative.

In Here & Hereafter Tyler explains that by listening and learning from the departed, following their guidance, and paying attention to what they might have done differently, we can get more fulfillment and purpose from our own lives. Here & Hereafter will shed light on the most powerful understandings Tyler has gained from modern day mediumship—and explain how those understandings can lead us to live a more meaningful life.

Tyler Henry (born January 13, 1996) is a teen clairvoyant medium originally from central California. Born with a unique gift, Tyler has helped countless people acquire closure, comfort, and proof that consciousness transcends physical death. Working as an evidential-based medium, his ability to provide specific, detail-oriented specifics has allowed him to share what he sees with medical professionals and missing person cases.

As Tyler’s grandmother was terminally ill with cancer in April of 2006, he began having strong intuitive hunches that would later turn into a series of profound visions that proved to be true. After a series of life changing events (including a near death experience), Tyler’s passion, calling, and life purpose has been to bring clarity, closure, and evidence to those he is privileged to read.

Tyler is known for his rational, comforting, and tactful presentation of the information he receives. This mentality has allowed him to provide a down-to-earth understanding with messages of hope, closure, and forgiveness. With clientele both nationally and internationally, Tyler has been blessed to work with a vast array of people from all walks of life. More than anything, Tyler’s goal has always been to aid in the grief process and provide validation and closure to everyone he’s able to, through his one-on-one readings, group events, lectures, and workshops all across the map.

First, I have to admit that I had never heard of Tyler Henry before seeing an opportunity to request an ARC of his book “Here & Hereafter” on Shelf Awareness Pro. Second, I have to admit that, while I believe I what some may call the paranormal and have had several such experiences in my life, I have always been skeptical of readings by mediums., thinking them charlatans, expert at interpreting body language and researching their clients before a reading. That said, I found this book very interesting, even wise—- if not entirely original.

Often without citing, Henry references the Bible, Buddism, even Tolkien. But, that doesn’t take away from the wisdom to be found in this book. I plan on sharing it with friends as I think it will spark deep and interesting conversations and may offer comfort to others.

For believers and skeptics alike, I think this is a worthwhile read.

This makes my top 3 favorite “spiritual” books of all time. I find Tyler Henry’s approach to the mystical and spiritual to be refreshingly pragmatic.

I can think of no better word for this book than that, pragmatic. It’s honest, humble, and most of all, helpful for anyone on their spiritual path.

Whether you’re just getting started or have been journeying for a while and need gentle reminders of what’s most important, this book has wisdom for you.

I will be re-reading this book for years to come, and sharing with all my friends and family.

Here and Hereafter by Tyler Henry. Uncorrected Digital Galley from NetGalley.com. First Edition ©2021. St Martin’s Publishing Group. Print book: 283 pages. 4 Stars.

An enjoyable autobiographical book from medium Tyler Henry. Extremely fluent in his subject, Henry’s well thought out book contains interesting anecdotes, and I was pleased to find a fellow lover of both Casper the Friendly Ghost and Halloween! This book could be listed as required reading for an and-of-life course.

Thanks to Martin's Publishing Group for providing this ebook for review.

I secretly love Tyler Henry. He’s such a sweetheart on Hollywood Medium. I’m still not sure what I think about the idea of communicating with people who have passed, but I sure do love the process of watching him do it—whatever “it” is.

This book is kind of a memoir that gives life advice—which, considering how young he is, should be deeply annoying. But it’s not. Henry is genuine and honest. He talks about what gets him through his own struggles (and my goodness he’s had to deal with a lot of health setbacks). He also shares some of the readings he’s done and what he learned from them. Truthfully, there was a lot more depth here than I was expecting.

My only minor complaint is that the writing could get repetitive at times. There was a bit too much stream-of-consciousness happening here. Sometimes I’d forget what the original point of the chapter was about halfway through. Still, he always found a way to bring it all together in the end, and I really enjoyed reading what he had to say.

First of all, I've always been something of a skeptic regarding Mediums. In my mind it was mostly hocus pocus. I probably formed my opinions of Mediums by watching them perform either live or on TV. I came way not convinced. However, after reading this book from this gifted young man, I came away with an entirely different perspective. In fact, he spoke to me. I can relate to his readings he wrote about in this book concerning death and the spirits. They seem to have a way of appearing again. When I was five years old I viewed my maternal grandmother in her coffin. My older sister and I were giggling because she was such a frail, old lady who was virtually bald. Now fast forward when I was 36 when I flew back to Louisville to see my mother for the last time while she lay in a coma at the hospital. When I walked in the door of her room I instantly saw my maternal grandmother laying in her coffin. It was a most profound experience; and ire feeling came over me that I have never forgotten.

Honestly went into this book thinking it would just be name drop central. Pleasantly surprised that it was a much deeper and reflective book on leading a more meaningful life, finding answers in our own empowerment, and the inner keys through every door thats yet to come.

I had never heard of Tyler Henry and knew nothing about him prior to reading this book. I was intrigued by the title, and upon reflection think that the title is a bit misleading.

The author
- shares stories about his readings,
- advises readers to pay more attention to our spiritual side and the current moment,
- to leave our egos at the door (good advice!) so that we are open to new things,
- to pay attention to our intuition, and
- to align our lives with our authentic selves for our happiest life.

Whether these lessons actually came from the hereafter or not, this book seems to be an attempt to validate his gift to others and comes across as more of a self-help book than a book about the hereafter.

One thing I absolutely loved about the book was the letter he asked his mother to write about what it was like to raise a child (Tyler) who was "different". Mothers worry about their children, and even more so when they don't seem to fit into the world around them. As the mother of a child who is both gay and a medium, she spoke about her love for him, fears for him, pride of him very poignantly and from the heart. Every child should have such an advocate in his life!

My sincere gratitude to St. Martin's Essentials for permitting me access to an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley. All opinions expressed here are indeed my own and are freely offered.

The title is rather misleading. All chapters leading up to the last chapter, seems to be about the author and validating his gift. He doesn't discuss any wisdom from the beyond that the living can impart until the very last chapter and does so from a superficial, bird's eye view. For example, when discussing 'the law of attraction', he mentions that it is so much more than focus, intent, and taking practical steps to achieving what you want. Even gives a comparison to children in Africa wanting clean water. Okay, so if it is so much more than that, you would expect him to elaborate and clarify his statement, yet it ends just there. Not very practical feedback, if your book is supposed to be about wisdom from the departed. This entire book fell flat for me.

I like Tyler on the show and his character. This book isn’t the best one. Many words and not that much information. You will be submerged with the quantity of profound words but when you want to make a resume of what you’ve read, you can summarize it in one phrase, applicable to all chapters - turn off your ego to live a more meaningful life and liberate yourself from guilt. Just like the show, you won’t get any deeper into the messages. It is very shallow and you’re left hungry for information. Just like the show, this book is very limited in information you can get on the subject that clearly sells.
I’m not sure if the book was entirely ghost written but the author is very long winded and it becomes bothering as pages and pages often can be summarized in one phrase. You are able to loose interest in this book very quickly when you’re waiting for a point to come but you’re forced to get through authors’ divagations. The real length of this book should be of max of 35 pages but I guess when you have a book deal for over 100 pages, you have to fill it with something…
Overall information is nothing new, you’ve certainly heard the same information elsewhere over the years. The positive point is the author who continues to stay humble and isn’t taking a direct position to school you or tell you you’re doing something wrong. But the reasoning stays the one of a very young person and is very transparent. This isn’t a book for a more demanding audience. I’m sorry

Tyler Henry is a breath of fresh air! I love his shows. I recently re-discovered him with his Netflix show Life After Death. I thought it was really neat that he shared so much about his personal story on that show. I wanted to know more about his thoughts and feelings and beliefs. I listened to the audio book version and I'm so glad I did as Tyler is the narrator. I've also watched a lot of his clips on YouTube, in one clip somebody said, "I don't know if I believe in God but I believe in Tyler Henry". While this may sound blasphemous to some, it was exactly what I was thinking. After a crushing faith crisis I have been trying to rebuild my beliefs and redefine my spiritual thoughts. Tyler has given me a renowned sense of hope and peace. In a way, he gave me validation for some of my beliefs. Like that It's ok to not know, there are just some things we can't know... etc. While a lot of this book reads like self-help and I did find that some of his advice felt regurgitated, he did quote Brené Brown's favorite quote and what sounded like some of her research - it's pretty simple stuff once you boil it all down though, maybe he was channeling her (can you do that with other loving people?) I'd like to think they'd be good friends if they ever met. All-in-all, this is a sound book with interesting topics and good advice from an interesting guy. I especially resonated with the forgiveness section, he put it in a way I hadn't heard before, and it helped me with some things I've been grappling with. The Q&A at the end was great too. I might even need to read this one a couple times. Seems like one of those books where at different times in your life different parts will pop more and you can get more out of it.

Such a great read. I've been a fan of Tyler Henry for quite a while. This book, Here & Hereafter, is hard to put down. It's filled with useful tidbits on how to think of life and the spirit world; fun and fascinating stories from his readings; and snapshots of his supernatural experiences. I devoured it. I especially enjoyed the Q&A section at the end where Tyler unabashedly shares his true feelings on a variety of subjects. I felt so grateful for the fresh content and candid approach to his answers. Tyler is so kind and unique. I love his raw honesty: he shared not being able to know the impending death of a client's fiancé, his own health struggles, and how he juggles the known and the unknown by beginning his day with gratitude. There is no sugar-coating here. Fans of mediumship will love this book. Definitely one of the better options out there. Forget the fluff, this one's got some bite. Interesting, exciting, and compelling. Recommend.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. It started off as a slow burn and, for me, became more interesting as it went. I am very familiar with Tyler Henry and mediums. I find him the most believable of all. The book was a bit of a self help book more than a recounting of his readings - that was a surprise. It was also largely about mindfulness, which isn't a surprise these days since the word has been hijacked from Buddhism and appears everywhere now. Overall, this book has some interesting stories and information, and provides insightful guidance on spirituality, death and how to live life better before you die.

This is an extraordinary book of hope and healing with words of wisdom from Tyler Henry. He has helped numerous people throughout the world with his gift as a clairvoyant medium.

He had his first premonition when he was 10 years old with his grandmother's death. This is his second book at age 25 which reveals his profound thoughts of the paranormal and afterlife. He helps us understand the meaning of life with his words.. It's not necessarily new material. But how he presents it is uplifting in the most sacred way.

Within the pages, the reader is bound to relate to several of his thought-provoking messages. He weaves in personal accounts along with stories from his client's experiences and some interesting historical notes. He says, "I believe that our goal shouldn't be to stick to our life purpose, but to instead live purposefully in every moment."

He touches on a number of subjects in each chapter with his views on a spirit-filled life, your ego, your intuition, aligning with your authenticity, navigating with loss and recognizing all kinds of signs. He believes grief is not a clear cut set of stages but continued emotions that are forever changing. He talks about the importance of experiences...not material things.

He ends with responses to some of his client's questions. He says, "We don't take stuff with us, but we do take our consciousness. What we do with it while we're here is all that matters in the grand scheme." He also emphasizes to make the best of your time and "make sure nothing is unsaid to those that mean the most."

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book as there are many others publications that are on the edge. I kept wondering, "who is this guy?" Tyler Henry's writing, however, is clear and logical. Everything he says makes a lot of sense. He's an inspiration and helps us in a way that makes all of us appreciate our life lessons; to hug everyone in our circle and tell them how much we love them.

My thanks to Tyler Henry, St. Martin's Publishing Group and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book to be released on February, 1, 2022.

In The Words of Ram Dass
WE’RE ALL JUST WALKING EACH OTHER HOME

I just finished reading this book last night and As I was thinking about my review I thought what words could express what I have learned from reading this book I will just say a lot !!!.
I was really impressed at The way Tyler explains what he has learned from his experiences as a medium and allows us to learn from him. After reading this I feel like I have learned more insight into the world and the people we live with.

If you’re a believer or not this book is something you should read Tyler shares his experience’s and gives advice about things that has happened to him some from his reading’s some from just life.

Tyler talks about about him growing up and having a premonition about his grandmother‘s death at the age of 10 and how that changed his life he also shares about what it was like growing up with those gifts it was not easy for him.

Through the years Tyler has done many readings had a television series and many different life experiences. But One reading in particular about a wealthy man change Tyler’s thinking about what’s important in life. After you read this you will be thinking the same thing.

Death like birth is a part of life what we do with the time defines the quality of our lives.

I enjoyed reading this and Thank You Tyler Henry for Sharing some of your Life‘s experience with us

Here & Hereafter:
How Wisdom from the Departed Can Transform Your Life Now by Tyler Henry
Published March 29, 2022

<3 This book was even more mind blowing than his first audiobook. He has an old soul and he has clearly been here before. The stories of his different readings to those in Hollywood and other elites were reverting. His reading of Alan Thicke was the most eerie. I still have yet to gather courage to watch the show but I will be watching some googled YouTube Sessions of some of those readings he mentioned in this memoir. The story of his mom's kidnapping and the phone call from beyond made this a suspense thriller. He again spoke on #trauma, #personalitydisorders #NarcistticPersonalityDisorder #NPD #BPD #mentalillness, #addictions seeking (or not seeking) therapy and how our individual egos contribute to how we live and ultimately how we eventually transition. The role of nature and how its all a part of how every living thing and or every object feeds the collective global (positive and negative energies). As a ritual practitioner of TM, (Transcendental Meditation) I especially appreciated his elaboration on the importance of a regular meditation practice and the historical context surrounding the practice. This was fascinating AF! I certainly hope he continues to write and narrate more memoirs. This is a definite #MustListen <3 #SettingBoundaries #selfcare #meditation #LifeRegrets #Guilt #NYPLBookBinger <3

This program is read by the author and includes an exclusive bonus mindfulness exercise.

I picked up this book because I've been in a rut and I was hoping it would just tell me the magical answer and fix it. But despite my poor attitude, it was actually a really good book. I copied enough quotes out of it, I think I ought to just buy my own copy and a highlighter instead of doing this library copy. I've actually learned most of these lessons throughout my life, which I'm guessing probably isn't the norm, but some of them I'd nearly forgotten, so I appreciate the reminder. The fact you've learned them in almost half the time, is truly an accomplishment.

Tyler, if you read my review, these are my follow up questions:

What are the defining features of our souls? You talked about what isn't, but what's left? What does "knowing ourselves" truly mean if our egos, talents, skills, beliefs, defined relationships, and possibly even personalities eventually leave us upon death?

How can we know if we are hurting other people by giving advice they ultimately misunderstood? Do we feel regret for that at a life review?

What's the difference between disassociating and being "an observer"? Are you really living your life and being present if you're watching it happen to you?

and food for thought:

If we can manipulate our emotions by simply taking medication that changes our hormone balances, by what mechanism do we "feel" loved from the other side? If we are to exist forever and permanently, or at least as long as "God" exists, would an eternal existence lacking in love be tolerable? Wouldn't we all sign up for something that makes us feel good? And then a way to make a more permanent solution? What if God doesn't know everything or have all the answers? What if he's almost as clueless as we are? Maybe he doesn't know why he exists either? What if Earth is the path to an existential solution, rather than a random video game to pass the time till forever? Not a test of righteousness or obedience, but an experiment of the universe? Perhaps Earth is about learning love in a way that comes from within us, rather than from an external force. On Earth, we don't constantly feel that external love, so we have a chance to feel the lesser degrees of it coming from ourselves and each other, which can be amplified in the face of violence, hunger and death. That leaves God, not as the apathetic observer of our suffering, but our partner in our existential goals.

In Here & Hereafter, Tyler Henry looked at what he has learned from people who have passed and what they would have done differently. He is a medium and he shared quite a few examples of his readings. He begins the book by sharing how he had a premonition of his grandmother’s death when he was ten years old. This led him to do readings and he started connecting with the universe. He explained how death will inevitably happen to us all at some point. We instead need to be more concern with the time we have left and enjoy the quality of life. He shared how he discovered life tools from the people who have departed and how they would do their own lives differently if they could. He looked at how he had to have faith in himself and the realm. In the book, he explored how to refine our intuition, recognize your ego, and healing.

In the book, he also shared his battle with his health and how he received a calling warning him. He had to have an emergency brain surgery in 2014 after the doctors discovered a mass near his brainstem. He had hydrocephalus, “water on the brain”. He later in 2020 faced a collapsed lung and was so sick, he was in the hospital for three weeks. This taught him a lesson in intuition and coincidence. We can learn to trust the meaning in our experiences even if at the time we don’t understand the reason why.

I would recommend this book to anyone is curious about readings or mediums. I liked how he was very real about his personal story of a trigger involving a murderous old lady. His own mother never realized until years later how evil her fake mother really was. She forged her birth certificate and was kidnapped. This story was mind blowing and was horrible to read about how his fake mother was so evil. It was interesting to read about his dad didn’t at first approve of his new ability but he later come around. I also liked the story he shared of Heather and her reading and how she was instructed to make the most the time that she had left. She was dying from cancer and was still upbeat about it. I liked how he encouraged readers to learn to be more present in life and enjoy the time you have with people.

After not using Libby for over a year, I got an alert about this book asking if I wanted to place a hold. Didn’t know the book existed so took it as a sign.

It was a quick listen with a days worth of housework. I found myself sitting to jot short notes such as “Part of finding my purpose is identifying what gets me in that flow state”…and… “Success = realization and execution of my purpose-being able to die knowing I had a life worth having.”

The book is a blend of Tyler’s behind the scenes memories and takeaways, life advice based on his personal experiences, and wisdom he’s learned from countless readings with those on the other side. A significant theme is the value of using your own intuition. It’s not a “how-to”, but does offer lots of insights.

What brought it down to 4 stars - two things I didn’t agree with, given my own experiences. One of those being his advice to parents with children terrified of the dark, and those children who have said they saw ghosts and were scared. His response was largely dismissive, as his own experiences were not scary. It encouraged parents to not take their children’s reports seriously. A child’s perception of what is scary or not can be influenced by their own personality, experiences, indoctrination… It is not a fact that any child would not be scared of what they are or are not truly seeing. And fear, whether the source be real or imagined, shouldn’t be dismissed. It lacked a more thought out and well rounded evaluation of the question. I would have preferred it to have been omitted altogether.

What I appreciated is he called himself out on something else that he got wrong in his earlier book (I have not read that one.)

So take this for the beautiful and possibly inspiring book it is. But remember he’s one person. No controlled studies, no vast research of others’ experiences. So use your own discernment. And, as they say, take what resonates - and leave the rest.

Here and Hereafter by Tyler Henry will be released March 29, 2022. The edition I read is an advanced reader copy. There are some formatting issues but nothing that really takes away from the reading experience. I literally knew nothing about this book or the author before reading this. Which says something being as he had a TV show at one point. But I don't watch much TV anymore. So, maybe that's why. But it seems the target audience would be fans of John Edwards and Theresa Caputo. Have you ever wanted to know what messages your loved ones have for you? Do you want to know what they suggest we do to make life the best it can be while we live it? This is the book for you.
I don't know many people that haven't wondered what a loved one would say to them since passing. Messages? Lessons? Where are the coffee cans buried? This helps answer those questions. Well, not the coffee cans. Keep digging. But he does help assuage fears about death and passing. Which is super important as we live in continuing unprecedented times. Tyler gives his experiences either personally or through clients to help us feel more comfortable about our inevitable ends.
If you're unfamiliar with who Tyler Henry is, let me help. He is a clairvoyant. He has a TV show called Hollywood Medium. He has worked with many Hollywood celebrities. He has another book out called Between Two Worlds.
I'm sure I didn't understand the assignment but I feel like the point of this whole book was to make the reader feel better about death. Whether it's their own death or the dead of a loved. He accomplished that with me but I'm an easy sell on that kind of thing. I'm fairly death positive. Thanks, Caitlin Doughty.
As for this book, I feel like the first half is very heavy on the standard platitudes used by psychics. There also seems to be a lot of back patting and name dropping. His writing voice comes off a little pretentious. Those things made it hard for me to get into the book.
He relies heavily on his own personal experiences and the experiences of the clients he reads for. That being said, if you're a skeptic, you're going to have a hard time with this book. There was a lot of the same things I've heard constantly from other TV psychic/medium people.
I did like how he handled the subject of death. We can't escape it. And for two years now, all we've heard is death and dying and sickness. He makes it not so scary. Aside from that, I feel like this doesn't really stand out among any other book in the same field.
Tyler, although young, is experienced and I love that he is sharing his insights and experiences.
The book reads like you're having coffee with your brother's new boyfriend and he's trying very hard to impress you. I think he could have mentioned his clients without name dropping. That's a real turn off point for me. It comes off like, "Look at me. Look how special and important I am." Like, nah. Sorry. I'm done listening now.
Will I read his first book? No. Will I read another book by him? If it's sent to me. Will I check out an episode of his show? Maybe, if I can find it. But like I said, if you're a fan of Long Island Medium, I think you would like Tyler.
Honestly, I was a little disappointed. I was thinking this was going to be a Q & A session with the dead. There is a Q & A session in the back of the book where Tyler answers some FAQs. I thought we would get more actual messages from spirits and the departed. But, oh well.

I was super excited that I got offered to read the advanced reader's copy of Tyler Henry's newest memoir. I love all things supernatural, psychic, and mediumship so I instantly knew that I wanted to read his newest book. There were a lot of concepts that I enjoyed reading in this book and learning about Tyler's outlook on life. However, some of the parts were a bit longer than they needed to be and dragged on a bit.

I was hoping to learn something more about the afterlife but instead, I didn't. The book was more of a self-help book instead of what I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed the supernatural stories he shared because that's initially the type of book that I wanted to read not a self-help book but nonetheless I still enjoyed parts of the book.

Tyler talks a lot about manifesting the life you want and some of his concepts I did not always necessarily agree with. You can't always think about the life you want or wish it into existence. The law of attraction only goes so far. Yes, I do believe in the power of prayer too, and appreciated his take on religion but some of the concepts fell flat to me.

Overall, the message behind the book is still one of hope and that life goes on after death. I was just wanting a different book I think instead of a self-help book at the time.
