A prophecy foretold … the fate of thousands on the line …
With one major enemy town behind them, the GreenPiece clan marches onward to new conquests. Facing Oren and his monster army are the combined forces of the so-called ‘civilized races’, intent on halting his invasion of their territory.
Reality blurs as Oren fights harder than ever to save the trapped players, his clan, and his family.

Life Reset: Conquest is book 5 of New Era Online, a LitRPG / GameLit bestselling series that combines settlement development, a monster protagonist, a deranged AI companion who’s obsessed with testicular quips, and a desire to explore what it means to be a human living inside a video game.

Shemer has been a fan of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and RPG games since the early 80’s.
In 2016 he started writing his first novel: Life Reset which turned into a 6-book series with its grand finale published in 2021. Each book in the series became an Amazon bestseller.
In 2019 Shemer quit his day job as a software developer to become a full-time author and released his second series: Earth Force, a sci-fi series consisting of a 2-book arc. Shemer hopes to garner enough community awareness and support to start writing the second arc.
As an avid gamer, a D&D dungeon master, and Navy veteran, Shemer has a wealth of life experience to draw on for his writing. His books always include elements of kingdom/settlement development where the protagonist is forced to carve out a new place for themselves in the face of adversity.

Shemer spends his days writing and his nights fighting crime (well, mostly convincing his kids to go to bed, which is very similar).
Shemer also enjoys writing about himself in the third-person and hopes you find his work enjoyable.

Consistently good series!

Some series have no plot progression and vary greatly from one book to another, but I'm still enjoying this series even this many books into it.

SPOILERS:

I have one criticism: the whole "my daughter can't be hurt oath" is just...meh. His actual words he used when he made the oath do not reflect the oath he is being held to (or his intentions at the time, or anything Nihilator would want), so it never made sense from the start. Also, normally the greater the oath the greater the boon he gets...but an open ended oath with no rewards that can't be completed feels so contrived. Nihilator wouldn't want him protecting anything from harm as an oath, and he's not getting anything for successfully doing it. So it really needs to go away. He's kept his daughter safe for 40 levels and hasn't gotten a single reward each time he's done it. What's the point of a horrific consequence it you fail and nothing if you succeed? Also, Oren is pretty sharp but his interactions with his IDIOT daughter make no sense. She CONSTANTLY risks her fathers existence taking stupid risks and he doesn't do anything to change this! It just feels like fake drama that doesn't serve any purpose but to try and create artificial tension in the plot. He could have put her in the finest enchanted armor with runes to teleport her instantly away the second the armor takes damage so SHE wouldn't take damage. Or he could lock her up or punish her so she would learn to stop taking stupid risks. Honestly, the only thing I haven't liked about this series is that Oath. The constant cycle of her taking stupid risks, getting saved, and then nothing happening is just annoying and out of character with everything else we know about the world and Oren. It's THE most dangerous problem Oren has, and he does nothing to mitigate the risk!

I didn't like this book as much as the last book. The players are starting to come under his banner to fight back and try to get out of the game. That started in the last book. That was why i was so surprised the other players were barely in this story. The twins that have been with him since the second book barely had an dialogue in this one. There were some of the newer crazier players but still there wasn't as much interactions as I would have thought. Oren did a lot of solo missions in this one. Some of those I thought was pretty good but some of them were a little over the top

Worthy continuation

First off, yes, I decided to incorporate ⅛ of a star for the first time. Just felt right. Secondly, this penultimate volume served its purpose prudently. Very respectable execution.

There was a particular twist that I especially appreciated. I found it refreshingly unexpected. This development introduces a brand new variable that I’m excited to see unfold. This is what ultimately compelled me to add the ⅛ of a star to the 4.25 that I was considering.

Onward to the last leg of this journey.

I am a big fan of this series and it does offer a refreshing perspective, but 5 books in the novelty has worn off a bit and the world building slowed down somewhat.

The whole surrounding setting with the lawyer, medical checkups and Vi TV feels completely irrelevant and seems to be just some filler material. But I can skimp through these parts. What is starting to sour the series for me is that whole super-hero-daughter dynamics. Oh boy, everytime the word "goblinette" appears you better skip to the next paragraph. I realize she's being built up for some grand finale, but meanwhile she adds nothing but Mary Sue to the plot.

Things are getting into the macro level. Kingdom building, boss raids, and putting all the threads together.

Vic isn't in this one much, which is a little sad. The introduction of other players became a little odd. I would love to know the back story to some of them and just why they are the way they are because since if their actions seem more "because plot" than because of their personality.

But otherwise a great story with a lot of pieces laid out in the board and promises for an epic battle on the horizon.

Kind of surprised but also glad there's only one book left in the series. There seems like there's a lot to wrap up still, but I also felt like there was risk of the plot becoming very repetitive if things didn't end soon. Hopefully this leads to an exciting ending!

As for Conquest, the name pretty much says it all. It's time for Oren to become a hero and save the players by conquering the world with his evil empire.

Book five

Mistakes: Very well written, without any mistakes.

Plot: This book is mostly conquering as the Greepeace Clan goes to war against the rest of the world.

Characters: The cast is getting rather large and harder to keep track of. Expect it to get even larger.

Yet another engrossing installment

I love these books, though that much must be obvious if I've gotten this far into the series. One if the things I appreciate is the power escalation. Oren is and always has been very powerful, but I appreciate the fact that as he grows stronger so do his challenges. We can feel his strength while not getting bored because he's too OP and curb-stomping everything.

The author takes a step back from base building/management, and honestly, I'm ok with that. I remember thinking to myself just how much the progression reminds me of my experiences playing Spore—going from an individual to a tribe, and eventually into a full-fledged civilization, each stage with its own challenges and mechanics.

I'm interested in seeing what happens next, although his increasingly goblinoid mindset/tendencies has me worried, especially after Ragnar starting exhibiting similar influences. At least he's not at risk of losing himself in the role again.

Looking forward to seeing how the green messiah's kingdom grows, and how the Mob Squad fairs in their predicament. Here's to hoping that this timeline lies in the 80% success timeline.

A Refrshing take on LitRPG

While most litrpg series focus on character sheets and leveling skills, this series supports the fiber details of gamelit genres, incorporating the subtle nuisances of gaming life us fans can truly enjoy. The recent incorporation of game theory and mechanics akin to Sid Meyers Civilization brings a refreshing addition to both the overall sotey and characrer development . If xonstant fight and grinding levels is not your thing, this seriers has many aspects to lure you in and keep your interest. With the author now committed full time to expanding this literary universe, we can expect even greater excitement, adventure and perhaps more off brnching fame mechanics to be delivered in future releases.

Thanks for another great adventure, look forward to the battles, conquests, and adventure to come on the next book!

Ok I admit it, this author was the first time I’ve ever signed up to a newsletter because I just needed to know when the next book was coming out. The perfect book for someone wanting to dip their toe into the world of LitRPG books, this one has levelling, crafting, special powers, bad guys to hate and a foreboding worry that the MC’s world is going to crash down around them at any point. I listened to the first book in the series while in the car going to a meeting and it ruined my day that I had to leave it behind to deal with boring work.
This year I finished the series with the last book and it was wrapped up rather well though it was a bit of a bitter pill for me to swallow. I didn’t want it to end.

This series is a great read period. The author is inspired. Not difficult reading as the author builds on concepts rather than introduce them all at once in a non-comprehensive stupor. Similar to ready player one, this has the concept of a haptic suit and immersion in an unreal game, but he takes it in a different direction totally as all incredible authors do. What a great idea and well developed. Well done, and please continue the series, but don't go beyond book 6 as that is immediate death. Once you get to 6, go with another series. The oracle has spoken.

A wonderful and clear conclusion to an amazing series. There are very few LITRPG series which have achieved the perfect balance of fantasy and gaming. Even fewer have a completed story line. So it is refreshing to have a wonderful series which I know has an end and I can enjoy binge reading again and again knowing that the last book is available. The story is perfectly concise without unnecessary side plots or meandering interludes that other books use to fill pages. Overall ita a perfect conclusion to a perfect series

Good fun, Best book yet

The series gets better and better. The full time dedication to writing really shows. I was curious as to where great structure and pacing came from. Not to say th other 4 are bad or anything just a noticeable difference. Recent class, book, mentor? If so I'd be interested in knowing. Magic 8ball says keep an eye on this fellow, great things...great and powerful things. By the texting of my thumbs something wicked this way come

These books are a lot of fun. The storyline is exciting and pretty creative, in my opinion. I don’t mind that the main goals have changed, which is unusually a death sentence for a long series. I’m still invested and curious about what happens next. They’re definitely worth reading, and I’ll buy the next book. However…

The MC really isn’t very likable. He’s not awful, but he just isn’t well developed. I don't really care about him and he doesn’t pull on my emotions at all. I want him to succeed because of the plot motivations. I don’t think it matters in the big scheme of the story, but it can be irritating.

The wife and daughter characters are painful to read. I feel really uncomfortable during those scenes and I’m not really sure why. Maybe because they’re just cardboard cut outs? The author genuinely seems to think that this is what a meaningful relationship looks like, given the emotional attachment of the MC. It feels incredibly weird. He could’ve made the women interesting and it wouldn’t have hurt the plot, which leads me to believe that this is how he perceives relationships… which is concerning and a little gross. Two women constantly smiling at him blankly is what a happy family is? I didn’t think I could feel the Uncanny Valley in written form but here we are.

There are parts of the story that are unnecessary and I skip them or nap through them (audible), but they don’t hurt anything. I skipped through half of the third book because I just wasn’t interested in that storyline. It just seems so irrelevant to me, but it seems like a lot of other people enjoy it, so I can’t really make it a fault.

I hate the whole “my daughter can’t even get a scratch on her or we’ll all die” thing. It’s unrealistic and further alienates my feelings for that character. It’s like he’s trying to make me dislike her. Shouldn’t the (supposed) savior of the world have a personality or some depth of emotion?

These things were minor in the first few books, but it’s starting to wear on me.

Author reveals to main character Oren, the "prophecy" that there is a "chosen one" that he will have a "mixed progeny" that will be all powerful and "solve all of the troubles and mysteries of the NEO Game" VRMMORPG (Virtual Reality Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game). Yes! New Era Online, NEO Game novel series is Matrix with Sword Art Online, Goblins and other beast-folk like monsters as NPC's (Non-Player Characters).
So the main plot arc was Oren trying to log out of the game, getting revenge on the player (travelers) that betrayed him and stole his belongings and his guild the "Manapulators". But Oren never really got his things or his guild back, much less his human player character mage. Nor is he actively trying to "find, protect and save" the over four thousand players (travelers) stuck in the game.
Oren is invading and conquering all of the small and medium sized villages around his Green Piece Clan Village. He finds one or two players in each place, but not the over four thousand that cannot log out from this NEO Game.
Because Author is running out of ideas, he has created a "Television-like" program within NEO Game that the VI's (Virtual Intelligence Characters) made by the Game's AI (Artificial Intelligence) character Shiva makes and designs. These VI's bet, create commentary and are all expectant of Oren, his daughter and the rest of the players (travelers) within the NEO Game. There is only one book left to save the over four thousand players. Oren really doesn't know reality from alternate and virtual reality, he is so invested in NEO, that he forgets his humanity and has nothing to live for outside of the game.

Once again, nonsense. Of course, taking that town with underpowered troops backfires because he can’t handle a counterattack. Maybe he should have leveled and focused on monster settlements first? It’s not like us readers wouldn’t love to see that…. I just don’t understand the narrative choices the author makes, even in the context of them just serving what was likely a rough outline for him, they are subpar in every way to just playing it out as a builder… ugh

This imminent counterattack forces MC to do what he should have done in the first place and try to conquer a monster city. But he’s decided without any discussion or input from his self-appointed strategists to try to take this city by subterfuge and assassination. Of course, without doing any due diligence that this feat is even allowed but he game mechanics. And of course, it isn’t that simple. Just another sequence of contrived events that contradict themselves and don’t make any sense, all so the MC can get some troops and some steel balls for golems. Again maybe he should have focused first on building up his infrastructure to support larger food resources and then focused on conquering monsters first?

After five books, I am just so sick of the constant series of contrived dominoes the author insists on using for his plots. It takes away the entire purpose of being a builder series, of investment in progress and reaping that progress. If there is wasn’t one single book in this series left, I’d walk away after a third of book 5.

It gets worse and worse. I strongly disliked the repetitions and the massive real world part of the book. The woke OP daughter plot gets more and more annoying..

The MC now has the power to buy almost everything which destroys any immersion. He still doesn´t even try to learn new interesting spells... The MC is still the annoying, stupid, arrogant, unlikeable, learning resistant wannabe OP character who only succeeds due to plot armor and is showered constantly undeservedly with boni. FINALLY after so many problems about scarce ressources, the brainiac starts to develop his other holdings..

The story stated in the first book that the MC got portalled to a far corner in the world that nobody ever visits because it is that far and uninteresting. Now all of a sudden the place in the close neighbourhood of the capital where most players used to hang out...

Wish there was more but the hype is building

Book 5 ended up being a really good addition to the series. my only wish is that there was more skill development additional cool abilities and the like that came up but as with any book that comes to this point in their series you start hitting a much more of a macro-level and says of micromanagement. the plot line has made quite the progression since origins original days scrambling for every scrap of food and every warrior he could. I'm very excited to see what comes about in the next book. Keep up the great ball jokes and all the humor. BALLS!

LitRPG with flair

I enjoy this series because of a few simple things: while geometries, I find it interesting to see the game from what is cannonicly the evil side; Oren as a character is interesting, and I appreciate his thinking; The magic system is a little different from normal; the word building and town management are both interesting; finally, it's not yet another OP MC harem with vapid 2 dimensional lazy characters. I really look forward to what sounds like the several books remaining in this series.

Fun

Oren is still going strong. He is expanding his clan and plotting the freedom of the trapped players. New plot points are introduced that will guide the overall arc and the destination is starting to get sketched in. The read is still fast and fun, the pace steady, and the character growing. The challenges the MC face are reasonable for what’s going on and the story and character progression. Enjoy

If you are hoping for a return to the original good story (what a great idea)... don’t hold your breath. Instead of experiencing the magic and journey of a player trapped as an NPC, in this volume you will ride along with a megalomaniacal tyrant who wins every battle just by being the ultimate special person - messiah supreme being that he is! Typical supremacy instead of a great story about a great struggle. Don’t waste your time.

I don't know how it's possible, but each book Shemer Kuznits writes gets better and better.

The Dire Totem, Oren, leader of the GreenPiece clan, keeps getting stronger. This book is like Civilization, if it was a Virtual Reality Real Time Strategy Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

There were also some easter eggs in the end of the book. Can't wait to see what all the prophecies and new monster races will lead to.

Still lov’n this series

The balance of city building, action, and character suspense really brings these books to a great level of entertainment. My wife and I both really enjoy listening to these books while we are casting the whisper sync to our TV. This provides us the opportunity to share the story together and enjoy it with a shared imagination.

Thanks for the whisper sync, the wonderful words, and of course the great narration from Sound Booth!

Not as many balls jokes!

Another great book, far more war focused again than town focused but the interactions between the characters were far more interesting and Lirian is starting to become a far more interesting character if the fatherly overprotection is still an issue in a way as it means s you really don’t see that much of her skills. I am definitely looking forward to how all of this is going to turn out at the end.

So far this series has not been especially ambitious with 3 stars all around with the exception of the third book (which actually pulled off a solid twist). Although the writing is cleaner than the first book, this entry is probably the least impressive as the story has been on autopilot for the last book and a half. I’m holding out hope the author takes the finale in a very interesting direction, but if not the series will still end up a fun, unambitious but easy to read adventure.

Progress

The good
1. Less 'Shadowcrap'
2. Good City-Kingdom development
3. Moving away from Oren trying to manage everything to the use of subordinate leaders
The bad
1. Still some 'Shadowcrap'
2. The plotline with Oren's daughter is kind of meh.
3. The whole 'If any harm comes to your daughter you will be devoured by your patron' is frankly tiresome. It is so obviously an unbelievable author fiat that I can't help but roll my eyes whenever it is brought up

Let's goooooo!

Goblin boss goes boss on all these settlements and towns. It's total conquest time and it shows. I mean, it's great that we have such a noble purpose, to save all those trapped minds from the VIs, but it certainly has the feel of evil taking over the whole world.

It has just the right kind of juxtaposition, I think.

Lots of action, almost non-stop, and this LitRPG ain't stopping for nobody. I'm loving the big progression time and heroic/anti-heroic stakes.
