As Roxie grieves the loss of her Aunt Stella and shoulders the burden her aunt had carried, she finds herself struggling to learn to use her magick properly.
Add to that an ultimatum and a death threat from powerful adversaries right at the worst possible time for her, and we find Roxie wondering if she can actually do this.
Can she?
Read along—but be forewarned—be sure that any who depend on you are all set, and have supplies for yourself on hand too, because you aren't going to want any interruptions while you experience this with her!
Leigh Raventhorne lives in southeastern Michigan, United States. She's a country girl who loves animals, and loves to read and write. Currently, she's into writing snarky, humorous, PWF novels (Paranormal Women's Fiction) starring midlife female characters. She likes including her beloved animals in her stories. #Who'sDamnStoryIsItAnyhow?
To say I "read" this might be misinformation. More like skimmed. I liked the previous two entries, but this one felt different. First, the "I'm middle aged and have no bladder" joke is ridiculous. Unless you've had 20 kids, I doubt your 40 year old bladder is going to act the way hers does. I'm 52 with children and don't have 1/10th the number of issues she has. (Possibly a case of the author writing something she has no knowledge of?) I also didn't buy into the romance aspect of the story. That's when I really started to skim and thankfully, along with the snarky cat familiar, that was a good choice. It appears the series continues, but I'm out. 2 stars
Another adventure with Roxie, Rand, Toby, Jake, Samantha, Tess and the New Orleans characters. This time they must face off with evil and Roxie will need to learn to control her magic and accept her Aunt Stella's responsibilities to all of the New Orleans paranormal community. On to the next book.
This series is fantastic. I enjoyed the characters and the storytelling. Wonderful and engaging, enough suspense to keep you interested but not overwhelming if that makes sense. Looking forward to the next book! Thanks #PWF for helping me find another awesome author to follow!
This is another book in a great series! I love the new ideas, I never know what is going to happen next! Can't wait for the next book! All of the characters are such fun. And love Rand.....can I just say "yeah", so happy!!!!
From normal to super witch and powers still growing. I loved the jazz funeral, the visit to the attorney, and visits with the fairy queen. The showdown with the bad witches was awesome, but the end was incredible! I can't wait to see what happens next!
So far all of Leigh Raventhorne books in this series have been a nail biting; hold on to your seat, adventure ride! I have had to fight to put these books down every night or else I wouldn't have gotten any sleep! This series has kept me wanting more at the end of every book and I do not feel let down when I pick up the next one!
Interruptions at while laying Aunt Stella to rest bring both trouble and pleasant surprises.
Roxi and Zara are left trying to get to know each other and figure out Roxi's powers but, first Aunt Stella must be laid in her final familial resting place. As they are at the cemetery, putting her ashes in the vault, a man approaches with a dire message (thinly veiled threat) from the Curten sisters (2 turned witch with loads of power and followers) that Roxi is to surrender the city and her power to them before the next new moon. While Wade (the messenger from the Curten sisters) is issuing their threat Roxi notices a suspicious looking cuff on him which she later finds out is a slave cuff. She invites Wade to join her and the others at the reading of Stella's will the next day. The finish up and head back to Stella's so people may come and pay their respects (including a group of pixies, and their Queen, Astra). After the reading of the will, things begin to get very hectic and stressful for everyone. Roxi and Zara must help another familiar whose witch is missing, defend everyone from the Curten sisters, develop Roxi's powers, and rework all the protection spells all before the new moon. Will they make it in time?
I love this series. The characters are likeable, interesting (who doesn't love witches, pixies, ghosts, familiars and sexy horse shifters?), funny and engaging. The series is well written and developed. All the stories are expertly conveyed and thoroughly engrossing. I am so excited to read the rest of the series! I highly recommend this book as well as the rest of the series. Can't wait for the new developments and next book.
I just love this series, it’s so addictive I have been reading way past my bedtimes the last few nights as I just consumed book 3 of Roxanne’s magical adventures.
There are some really good women’s paranormal fiction series on Kindle Unlimited but so many mediocre ones must be waded through to find them. This series is one of those REALLY GOOD ones with great characters, an excellent story line that starts in Michigan and moves to New Orleans and imaginative plotting.
What makes these books so compelling is how the lead character experiences her learning process to becoming the powerful witch she was meant to be. Nothing comes easily, it’s all earned the old fashioned way with hard work and trial and error. Roxanne develops so much depth as she hits the highs and lows of her learning curve. And then there is the love, friendships, loyalty, fatigue and frustrations..and unlike nearly all magical people in other books, this one has a midlife bladder and has to pee on a regular basis lol, SO relatable!
I still quite enjoyed this 3rd installment, but I also can't deny that there're a few things that really annoyed me or simply didn't work for me. For one thing Roxie is becoming more and more of an avoider, someone refusing to deal with things in the hopes they'll sort themselves out miraculously. Very immature. Especially for someone who keeps harping on about her age, how old she now is, like her non-stop references to her bladder. We get it she's middle age.
There're also more plot holes, things that were simply never picked up again. Questions from book 1 and 2 that were never answered. Also, way too many genre-cliches. Maybe that's what I'm struggling with, you know, that it sometimes feels like she threw the proverbial kitchen sink at the story. Or Roxie's sudden power bursts. One minute she can't so much as light a candle by magic, the next thing we hear it's all easy as pie, the sky's the limit.
The romance did not work for me at all. A couple of months ago she was in a hospital lying in a coma after her (ex-)husband nearly beat her to death. After that she had to go through many weeks of recovery and healing. Only for her to be attacked again by said ex. I loved how the first book dealt with her struggle going through all of this, of her fight to find back to herself after not only this physical attack but also spending a decade in an emotionally abuse and demeaning marriage/relationship. And now it's suddenly all fine? No lingering fear, resentment, emotional scarring? I'd just think with everything else happening on top of all this romance would be the last thing on her mind. Apart from that there's absolutely no chemistry, no connection between them. He comes across as her guardian, protector, and friend, not a lover. Besides ghost lover?!? Yeah sorry. Not for me.
Lastly, still with the repetitive phrasing, it seems to be getting worse actually. Still with all the "we'll talk about it later" (only they rarely actually do), but also other things.
Despite how much I enjoyed the first two books and the developing characters, both human and various "wildlife" and I love the continued focus on friendships at this point I'm not sure if I'll continue with this series.
I just finished book 3 and can't wait to read the 4th. The books are fun, well-paced, and imaginative. I would have given five stars except for one thing... the objective case. When using a compound object, the author or editor uses the subject pronoun instead of the object pronoun. Every. Single. Time. For three books. Whether direct object of a verb or infinitive, indirect object of a verb or infinitive, or the object of a preposition. You would think that there would be at least one time the object pronoun was used correctly, but you would be wrong. So, quick review... Bob and I are friends. Give Bob and me a break. The problem is between Bob and me. Please correct this, for those of us who love the stories but actually speak English.
This is book three... and it is a continuity, so go read books one and two first if you haven’t already.
Roxie is learning to use her power, and just in time, because it seems she has a couple of new enemies to deal with...
Another fast paced, action packed addition to the series. A lot of things happen in this book, a few questions are answered, and progress is made (I love it when characters actually TRY and grow!) There’s all sorts of exciting things to come out of this book... a little magic, a touch of romance, it’s all good!
Recommended for those who enjoy Paranormal Women’s fiction, paranormal and urban fantasy books.
I love how Tess & Gloria became friends. Those who don't like to shop are weird. Plus I love Tess's music style! Total Beast is Boys and Run DMC fan. However, Tess would drive me nuts with her non-stop talking! She'd get someone killed in battle. It was remarkable how fast Roxie was able to get the protection spells done. And she got them done before the new moon. If I were Roxie I would have killed Romilda. And any other witches they found there. They are evil and will keep killing & trying to kill her. They will keep trying to kill or capture those she loves too.If she can't do it herself she should have asked someone else to!
Each book has gotten better and better, with the storyline developing further. I look forward to the next in the series. Just hoping there’s not a long wait in between. I tend to forget a lot of what happened when the wait is too long. It comes from reading one book right after another, and they tend to blend. I’m thinking this one will stand out, based upon its uniqueness.
Have read all three books in this series over this past week and can’t wait for book 4 to be released. Please have her gain more confidence in herself and hold off reminding us oh so often about how old she is. Sorry but 41 isn’t old and the reminders are almost too frequent. Help her learn her skills and talents quickly; there’s nothing wrong with her grasping hold of her power with zeal and determination, after all, she is “the Chosen One”!
Sam and Tess are back with Roxie, Rand, Zara, and the rest! Yea! So many fantastic things about this book. The plot, the characters (new and old), the story telling... I even loved how the villains were handled and I didn't think I would. I imagined a much different outcome with glee, but... wow. And the ending... just perfect.
Amazing story I hated to see it end! Roxanne is still getting used to be a witch and a powerful one at that... But things slowly start going bad for Roxanne, Zarra and the gang. The Curten sisters want Roxanne's magic and for Roxanne to leave New Orleans... What happens to Roxanne? I didn't want to put the book down once I started it....the story pulls you in. Love the characters and the story line. This would make for a great television show
The first book captured me and each one has spelled me deeper into Roxie's life. These books have been a fascinating adventure, not only about magic and the wonders that life holds but friendships. This is a series I look forward to and can't wait to continue!
I have become addicted to this series so hard! The characters are brilliant as well as the story. It’s so hard lately to find a fresh telling in a saturated genre. Roxies journey into her magick is a pure delight. I’m simply loving every minute following her growth.
Wow - things really start heating up in book three, in so many different ways! Friendships and other relationships bloom or grow stronger, action and intrigue abound, and familiars become... familiar-er? Yeah, let's go with that.
I was immediately sucked deep into the stories. The characters are well drawn and familiar. I had great difficulty putting the books down. I was pleased that there was no cliff hangers at the end of each book. Just a slight hint what might be next. There's action and romance. What more could anyone want?
Just finished the third in the series, SEEING FAMILIAR THINGS, and I swear, each book is better than the last! I started reading the relatively new genre Women's Paranormal Fiction last fall and have read quite a few different authors and have LOVED them all! This however is by far my favorite series!I Off to start book 4!!
