'Why settle for something as mundane as simply existing when you have the potential to be so much more?'

My first book by J.Kearston and I'm in love!
Forged from the Ashes is an action jam-packed paranormal romance reverse harem novel full of fun, snark and sweetness. But also steam and lots of gore.

'It takes more than blood to be a dragon.
You have to fight for everything you want in this world, then fight to keep it because there will always be someone that tries to take it away from you. In a world of nothing but predators, the only way to the top is to claw your way there.
You have to be the monster other monsters fear.'

And that's exactly what Ezra is trying to do. As the only female dragon in the region, she spent her life in hiding, sheltered by her brothers. Well, more or less sheltered that is because Ezra is neither coddled nor kept within the house. Her brothers made sure she can hold her own not only in the bloody games the dragons host every once in a while, but also against any idiot who might have the gall to try and get her.

As one of the very few female dragons remaining, Ezra must be ruthless to avoid capture. Be it blood or fire, she doesn't hesitate to use either of them. And she barely gives guys a second glance, because she's not interested in getting any mate.

Until the day three newbloods show up in her town. Fleeing for their lives, they bring the very trouble her family has protected her from to Ezra's door. And Ezra finds herself slowly falling for the three sexy dragons.
With her city threatened and her life turned completely topsy turvy, Ezra must choose her mates and reach a sanctuary to complete a sacred ritual before she becomes a danger to both herself and everyone around her.

Full of irreverent humor, snarky banter and laugh out loud moments, this action-packed page turner will have you chuckling in no time, as well as rooting for the characters.

Ezra is as badass as it gets! And the endearment of 'my psychotic angel' her mates occasionally mention is more than a perfect fit if you ask me. :D

'She's observant. Dangerous and fragile, guarded as well as all in. She's a walking contradiction that's the perfect balance.'
And the men 'admire the hell out of her for it.'

Beautifully fleshed-out characters with an incredible dynamic, fabulous family relationships, sweet gestures and awesome witty banter this book has it all. Alongside hot sex scenes and a hell lot of blood and gore. :)

I practically laughed out loud at the guys' attempts to keep a straight head despite the pheromones their little dragon tempted them with.
"Dead kittens, saggy grandpa balls, algebra."
And absolutely adored all each and every single one of the main MCs.
Fast-paced and nicely flowing, Forged from the Ashes is a unique and addictive tale with a refreshing take on dragons. Hoarding instinct included. And I must say I absolutely loved that!!

The action did become a little bit too overwhelming for me towards the end, and that is the reason I'm only rating it 4 stars. But then, that was just me and that may not be the same for other readers out there.

Bottomline, because I already held you to long, if you like dragons and paranormal romance reverse books, you have got to give Forged from the Ashes a try.

It is a real treat!

Happy reading everyone

3.3 stars.
This was really disappointing, honestly.
I loved the humor, and banter, and how badass the FMC is.
And I really liked the interactions she had with her ‘flight’.
But the authors note at the beginning said that the plot line for characters in this book would finish at the end even if there was an opening for things to continue with the other characters in the next book.
And that’s just not even remotely true.
Yes. They shifted.
But the romance part of this romance was absolute shit. I was skimming pages pretty hard by the last third of the book.
We got a total of 4 steamy scenes. The first was from outside and we only saw a tiny snippet as they walked in on them.
The second was vague as shit and completely anticlimactic.
The third was the only ok one and it was still mediocre at best.
And the last one was just a tactic to get out of a mess and didn’t go anywhere.
And all but the last one happened with 2/3 of the guys.
So fucking frustrating.

I think I’m done with this author honestly.
I just don’t like big chunks of her books for a couple reasons so it seems like it’s just not worth it, for me.

I don't know if I just have a bad day today, if not finishing this book right away was a mistake or if the book was just not what I hoped. However, now I finished this book I most of all feel there was a lot of potential and there were some really awesome moments, but I think that especially considering the pacing this book could have been better.

The first half of the book, the half where our heroine is meeting with the three guys who will later become her mates, is actually quite good. The first chapter is exciting and gives us a clear feel of our main character and who she is and I like how information is released quite slowly and never in an info-dump kind of way. It feels very natural and because we don't get that much information I also grew more and more curious about the world this story took place in.

I also really liked how the click between her and her mates was set up. We get to see them meeting, we get to see what makes them different from the other males, we get to see why our heroine clicks with them and what she sees in them. And, we discover that they have quite interesting backstories. They have been through a lot and I was really curious to discover what they had been through and what was actually happening and going on.

However, then the second half of the book happens and all of a sudden things move at lightning speed. Too fast, probably. Sometimes I read something and then read the next alinea and wondered how all that had happened in the previous alinea. I was losing track of what they were doing and how things were done or how things worked. The lack of info dumps was positive for the first half, but negative for the second half.

If the second half had been a little slower and the action packed finale a little more detailed, I might have liked it more. However, the first half of the book is still very much worth it.

Warning, contents may explode under pressure

Ezra has cultivated a style: bloodthirsty. As a single female dragon it's what keeps the idiots at bay. In this world women are so few that they're a commodity not always seen as people. So, blood or fire, whatever it takes to keep them wary enough they don't go stupid. But, this latest Gauntlet has new contenders, unknowns. They don't seem to set her off as much as the townspeople. But, soon, she'll be setting off everyone. Because 25 is approaching fast, and there hasn't been a female who made it past then without her heat. Things are about to get really bloody.

Spoilers ahead.
I wasn't sure at first. And the world building is still vague enough that parts are just odd. But, if you make it through the first 3rd, the attitudes and extracurriculars make a little more sense. Not a lot, but a little more. Oh, and trigger warnings. A past sexual assault that was stopped but left PTSD, and a horrible bas of operations run by evil men that used females as breeders and test subjects. Nothing is "shown" but it's there and should have warnings in the blurb for such. Readers deserve those warnings.
*The Gauntlet thing. In a way it makes sense. In another, not really. With population so low, a severe lack of females, are they looking to die out? Because a deadly obstacle course is a good way to thin an already decimated population.
*How are there towns of thousands of men, but only Ezra? Even with 1 female having 5 kids (using the Veles mom as an example) that's @200+ women per town- 600 that gave birth in order to have those numbers. The men can't all be elderly. What happened to all those women? A few lost to childbirth, a lot to the war, a few stolen, accidents, natural deaths, but where are even the grandmas and greats?
*This feels like an alternate modern day fantasy. Modern tech, a mix of archaic and modern weapons (the classics always come back, right?), humans, dragon shifters... Only dragons, though?
*They can breed monsters for the pits but are struggling (guessing here because it's a little vague) decades after this big war to replenish the population?
*They're awful bad at keeping test subjects alive. Sterile conditions, proper nutrition are important. Can't get pregnant if your body is always on the edge of shutting down. It sees it as a waste of resources.
*Why is crossbreeding not viable? Is it a gene sequence thing? Because they can pass for human, especially the males as they don't have fire or other abilities. Clearly sex can happen. Dragons don't seem to be magic based. Definitely lost that edge after the cliff thing. And trying not to be too spoilery, but if it is just a trust thing, it would have happened earlier.
*If this is the last generation, it's amazing that society is still as functional as it is.
*There's going to need to be a major breakthrough or a lot of women coming out of hiding for the population not to be web toed and playing banjos if they're going to continue on. The 50/500 rule. Bare minimum of 50 to keep from inbreeding, 500 to reduce genetic drift common to smaller populations.
*I'm guessing traditional law enforcement is gone. Sort of a vigilante justice deal, as long as you don't leave bodies behind? Although, who is enforcing that?
*I'd love a map. It would make some of the visualization easier on these countries mentioned. Especially as they don't seem like renamed known ones, they're completely new.

I liked the premise. I especially liked that Ezra didn't stop. Not for anyone or anything. Her past? Just more reason to keep fighting and kicking butt. The games? Ok, a little brutal, but they started it? Although, killing her off in the games, even accidentally, would be beyond stupid. That she can operate a forge? Awesome! She doesn't let the guys hold her back or baby her. She even goes full assault on 1 in the Gauntlet- after choosing him as a mate. There was only 1 TSTL moment. Yes, they needed to rest. But they knew they were being hunted and time was an issue. They still decided to get naked, and were attacked. I'll call the other a judgement error, because yes, 1 was wounded, but they could have padded him and roped him to drag him up the mountainside to avoid that second attack. But if that's the only thing to be picky over, that's not bad. The dialogue never lagged, the plot moved forward without being forced and the editing was well done.

Forged From the Ashes by J. Kearston is a great paranormal romance reverse harem novel and I absolutely loved it. The author introduces readers to Ezra and the men that will soon worm their way into her life in a pretty dangerous situation - The Gauntlet. Ezra has been entering for years...and winning it every. single. time. She's a female dragon in a world where she is a rarity and HER world is about to be turned upside down...because a fight is coming.
Forged from the Ashes is one of those well-balanced novels that gives you the right balance of everything you're looking for. The author promises comedy and boy did she deliver on that! I was so happy. Ezra is an engaging character and she has the right amount of attitude and snark to be a real character. She is never over the top and doesn't have moments of extremes of where you honestly want to smack the character and say chill out! Ezra has four brothers, and even when she learns that they have been keeping secrets from her...she plays it cool! All I can say is...I'm in love. LOL! There are twists, surprises, and a good amount of drama.
The author alternates the chapters between Ezra and her men and I love getting to know each and every one of them. The author gives us some steamy moments without going too graphic for those who prefer a small amount without the serious overload.
I truly enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next one in this series. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Snarky, humorous, and action-packed story centered around dragon race and the problems that bring wars among them.
Women.
But it's not what one may think in the first place.
Ezra is a solitary dragon female living in the city of Hadeon, surrounded by men all her life and yet sheltered and protected by her brothers. However, she is no damsel that needs help and protection, being a fighter herself. When three strange men enter the city, her life gets turned by 180 degrees - trouble follows her everywhere, long-buried secrets are coming to the surface, and the real meaning of being a dragon female starts to click. Ezra, having chosen her mates, has to go through the ritual before all is over and she becomes only another commodity.
I really liked the idea and the world building in this book - dragons having almost exterminated the human race, suffering from having too few females around and hence dwindling population, and the extent of how much can certain individuals try to earn from treating the rare beings as nothing more than commodities - to be used and bred. Haunting, horrifying, yet strangely real, as is the case with humanity itself. The way some scenes were depicted gave me the chills, but also on the other hand I really enjoyed the banter between Ezra and a) her mates or b) her brothers (and c) all those assholes who tried to manhandle or manipulate her). I found the last part of the book somewhat rushed, though (especially after the capture), several times having to rewind a few pages back and reread to get what happened. Aside from that, a very exciting and enjoyable book.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I enjoyed this book so much!! Ezra has been raised as the only girl to be able to totally be able to take care of herself. After her parents dies her brothers kept her safe while training her at the same time. She competes in the Gauntlet year after year winning to show off her impressive skills. This is a feat that many die trying to reach the end but many believe that if they can beat her then they can be her mate. They are all dragons though none of them can shift until they mate and only the females have any actual powers before that. Over time they have been dying out as females are rare and the birth rate has pretty much stopped in this crazy Dystopian world. When the secrets that have kept from her start to show themselves, such as her going into heat whether she wants to or not, she must take on a bodyguard to keep all them en lusting after her away. After that we just get one surprise twist after another as she is drawn to her mates making it necessary for them to go on a journey to complete the bonding. Makes for a fascinating story that I was unable to put down once I got starts. My only wish would be that it not be a stand alone so I could patiently wait for more. Overall a must read for fans of paranormal shifter RH. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

I found this book very entertaining! I loved the mix of a dystopian world and dragons with Kearston’s twist on it all. It was filled with action, snark, steam, and plenty of men. But even though this book is humorous, there are some very dark themes within.
I really loved Ezra. She’s fierce, snarky, loving, and filled with fire. She can hold her own, weapons are her weakness, and raised her kid brother while her older brothers worked like crazy to provide. Elias, her younger brother, was my next favorite character. He was forced to grow up too fast in order to protect Ezra, but he still had kid attributes during certain scenes. I loved their connection and how close they were compared to the triplets. I don’t think I had a favorite out of her guys, but they all had different pasts and personalities to make them perfect for her.
I was really intrigued by the world that Kearston created. It started off with female dragons being rare, but it developed into so much more as secrets were revealed. I loved The Gauntlet scenes and watching what the competitors had to face. I did feel like the second half of the book felt a little rushed, but it still had plenty of action and information. I kind of excepted how the mating ritual would go, but Ezra’s reaction was perfect to it.

The author had me at “dragons”. Add in a truly kick-butt heroine whose snark game is top notch, and I was in love with this story. I can definitely see why the author has included the trigger warnings, because there are moments in this book that go just a little darker than all the humor would suggest. This is shifters in a way I have never seen them before; a way that shines a funhouse mirror back at twisted portions of our own society. But above all else, it was in the snarky irreverent humor that I fell most deeply in love with this story. I don’t want it to be a standalone. There’s too much I still want to know about Ezra, her world, and her family – mates included.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author through Black Cat.

Multiple POV and filled with action and drama and has a different point of view on dragon shifters. I loved the storyline and I loved the characters and I loved the way it made me laugh out loud. In this alternate reality story most of the humans are dead. After trying to kill all the female dragons for fear of their strength, they faced the repercussions and they in turn were almost completely wiped out.

Since there are only a small amount of female dragons left, they are in fierce demand. Not only from those who want to force breed them, but also those who want to use them as guinea pigs for research purposes. Then there is the less horrible option, which is to mate them so the males get their full powers.

Ezra has been raised by her big brothers. She also has a younger brother that she is raising after the death of their parents. The fact that her brothers are mean, strong and scary is what has protected Ezra up until this point. Luckily the town they live in is pretty peaceful and they know to keep their distance from her.

When three strange dragons come to town, Ezra finds out a few things about dragon biology that her brothers have kept hidden from her. Unfortunately, the closer she gets to her 25th birthday the more out of control she will get/feel and there is nothing she can do.

At the same time secrets about the realities of being a dragon are being revealed. The outside world is starting to press in on the quiet town of Hadeon, and Ezra needs to make some major decisions about her future and about her mates.

I found that the world building was phenomenal. The details and descriptions really make you feel a part of the story and you can picture it clearly. Ezra is a feisty, independent woman that proves she can take care of herself. The wit and banter in this book is absolutely brilliant and I found myself laughing out loud on a number of occasions. The characters are well described and full-bodied, I really enjoyed learning about them and look forward to reading more about them.

Twenty-three years of being bored out of my mind, and now it’s been a whirlwind of excitement in just a couple of days. Boy, is this an understatement!

Our badass FMC, Ezra, is one of the very last female dragon shifters in the land. She was very sheltered from the outside world, by her overprotective brothers. They train her, not only for gauntlet matches, but also so she can protect herself. When she reaches her age of maturity (24), she ends up attacting all sorts of trouble. She ends up enlisting her out-of-town gauntlet rivals to act as bodyguards. What she also gained was three mates.

J. Kearston is easily becoming one of my favorite authors. Everything from the action, humor (and few Harry Potter references), to the characters, flows very smoothly. This was highly entertaining and I really enjoyed this story!

First time reading this author and I can honestly say if this is how she writes, I am going to be a fan. I always enjoy a good female lead that is strong. She does not need a man to save her and she lets them know it. In fact she will do all the saving.

I really enjoyed this different take on this world of dragons. In this one, the woman has the abilities and it is not until the woman mates does the powers increase for the males. Plus they cannot shift until they are mated. Ezra has had a time of it, not really looking for a mate, especially with over protective brothers.

I also enjoyed how we get multiple points of view, the pace, and just the overall feel of the story. Ezra is going to make you laugh, and cheer for her. I became a huge fan. I would highly recommend this.

Dnf. Honestly not sure how I feel about this book. A lot of missing info on the world building of this book. It’s starting to drag. Alot of things are written to favor Ezra’s character only...being last of the females and all. Ezra’s badass no doubt there, but honestly, her bragging about winning the gauntlet races... get over yourself already. You want to say you won them fair and square, of your own merit..,but honestly...how many men go easy on you cause you’re the only female left in the area? At the beginning of the race they beat each other up, but she never gets a scratch. They’re more worried about her getting hurt than winning. While the men only depend on their strength, she gets to use fire and claws. I seriously hate the double standards in this book. Lets be real here, Cai should’ve been the winner for that 2nd round...but out of the blue, he starts yapping his head off and starts acting like Soren. And being saved from falling to her death by another “man”...because this isn’t called the Death race for no reason 🙄. Might as well change the name to “Save the last egotistical female”. Yeahhhh, bragging rights all around, but hey, she showed those men who’s on top. 🙄

The whole “last” of female dragons thing also doesn’t make since. How did the humans get to ALL or the majority of the female dragons and kill them? If female dragons are like Ez, then they are not weak. They heal quickly. To say a majority of the female population died, especially with the amount of surviving male dragons, they either handed their females over or they really suck at defending their women and children. There are so many men, family, flight or whatever living there so what happened to the grandmas, mothers, wives, and daughters???

Another thing, she’s a grown 24 yr old women. Last of the female dragons. You’re going to say she’s so ignorant that she doesn’t know the survival of their race depends on her. That she shouldn’t start looking to settle down, build a power base, and become a real mommy, instead of a pretend one to her brother??? It’s like the author can’t decide whether to write in modern or archaic times and then we get this jumble mess so that the female can have her cake and eat too. If this “last female” situation is as dire as the book seems to claim, her ass would’ve been kidnapped a long time ago. Especially if the only way to unlock their powers is to mate and there being so few females left to breed. Does it even tell us how long ago since the world became this way??

This one has been on my list for a while, and I thought it was just about the time to pick it up! I love the fact that it's a standalone story, which was the mood and vibe I was feeling.

We have a world that's been torn apart by fighting between dragons and humans. The dragons have won and killed off people, but before they went down, the humans killed most of the lady dragons. Enter our FMC, Ezra, who's a 23-year-old badass.

The FMC!
Ezra has lived her life in a sheltered community, never knowing how bad the world was. What I love about her is that she's a fierce psycho! Her brothers have taught her to be her own hero and to take care of herself in all crazy and fucked up types of scenarios.

Her quiet life is thrown into chaos for... reasons. She's going to have to find a mate and quick. Enter our heroes!

The Guys!
Soren, Caius and Vyrian! What a trio of guys. They have come from a war-torn country and have encountered heartache and pain along the way. They never thought that they would have a mate, but they are willing to do whatever to win Ezra's heart.

Rather than seeing Ezra as the only female around, they build a solid and loving relationship with her. She's an independent dragon lady, and they don't try to box her in. They protect her while also letting her be her badass self.

The Smut!
The book is focused more on the relationship than the smut. That said, we do get some sneaky scenes in there—nothing too over the top but satisfying nonetheless.

This book was hot as hell, and I mean that in the literal sense. Ezra is a female dragon, something that is rare in the world we find ourselves in, in the book. Females of their species have fire-related powers, but neither gender can become dragons. That is something they can only achieve once mated, but mating is definitely something that Ezra doesn't want, or need in her life. She has her brothers, triplets Kahl, Kaiden, and Kinsley and her youngest brother Elias who I absolutely adore and god I'd love to discover what he says to his coach and some of the other men who are trying to vie for Ezra's attention. Each and everyone one of her brothers is super protective of her, as she is the only female dragon in their small town, but Ezra doesn't need anyone to stand up for her, she pretty much has that sorted herself.

For Ezra though, not everything is as it seems and it turns out there are things going on outside her sleepy little town that her brothers have been keeping from her. When she finally finds out the truth it brings her closer to the newbloods, Soren, Caius and Vyrian and as they journey outside of the town, her men will do anything to protect her even though they know she can handle herself.

This story was absolutely fantastic and I loved it, I really can't wait to read the next book in this series.

2.5 stars. I really wanted to like this. I enjoyed the first few chapters and the characters and that was enough to keep me reading to the end, hoping it would improve, but it kept getting worse. Parts towards the end are hard to read and decipher. The perspective shifts between different characters way too often and for no apparent reason. I can't really see a good reason why the whole story wasn't just from Ezra's point of view. I makes it hard to follow who's telling each chapter and because there are multiple male love interests it's sometimes unclear who is speaking. There is also no noticeable difference in 'voice' between the characters in their different chapters. So why change perspective?
I wanted much more sexual tension and much less focus on the embarrassing moments so I could enjoy the love story. The sex scenes just fizzled and there were a few details which really killed the mood.
Finally the world building just wasn't well thought through. Not possible for life to be so normal in the first part and then go so dramatically to hell. Also 1 female in the whole town/area? Too hard to believe.

I really liked the FMC of this book, Ezra. She was funny and strong and didn't take crap and was also fiercely loyal. Her mates were each adorable in their own right as well. I also loved the fact that her family was fleshed out, and the uniqueness of the world. That being said, I do wish there had been more of two things: world-building and steam.

The book kind of jumps straight in with no explanation, so I was left pretty confused for the first 15% of the book. Eventually, things are explained in more detail, but I still feel like it could have been fleshed out a bit more. Like, what's with the guys' home country being called Omisha? is that a new country? is this a parallel world?

The other thing it needed more of was steam. There was so much sexual tension and buildup, but then when the actual acts happened, it felt anticlimactic or it skipped over their perspective completely. In one mate's case,

But I want to emphasize that the book made up for a lot of this with its humor and the exciting plot and lovable characters. I'm especially excited to read about her brothers' story next!

This book was amazing, from start to finish I was completely hooked! Ezra was such a brilliant character, she was a total badass and capable of looking after herself, but the relationship she builds with her guys is great to see unfold on the pages. J Kearston writes beautifully, she really captures the Dystopian world Exra lives in. She's the only female in the town and competes in the brutal gauntlets to earn money to help her and her triplet brothers (who are just awesome, if ever so slightly overprotective). In walk three handsome, hot and wonderfully written men who really stole my heart. Vyrian, Caius and Soren were all so different and really jumped off the pages. They had a great story to tell and between them and Ezra I couldn't find a reason to not read this book! If you love dragons, hot men, steamy scenes, a hint of adventure and a whole lot of fun then this book is for you! I definitely recommend reading this, J Kearston has definitely made it onto my list of go-to authors! Can't wait for the next book!

I absolutely loved this book and need more!! I could not put it down between the sarcastic and fun loving Ezra and the three hot and sometimes brooding men. Yri is the fun and always giving compliments, Ren is the hulking bodyguard that has a soft spot and Cai is the one that isn't ready to put all his eggs in one basket.

Ezra grows up in a world that has more secrets than she knows but all is not as peaceful as it seems. We start with her running a gauntlet that has been made to help her find a mate but also get rid of some of the males. She is the only woman in the town and everyone is vying for her hand. Then 3 new men come to the town and they completely steal her attention. Their journey is not an easy one, they face plenty of bloodshed, low blows but they also have some fun times to break up the pressure.

Be prepared for held breathes, plenty of grabbing onto your seat, some tears at the backstory and what is currently happening but also plenty of laughing moments. This is a great book to read and I cannot wait to read what will happen for the triplets!

I love everything J.Kearston writes!! And she announced this standalone I jumped all over it!!

Ezra is our MC and she is a fierce! Take no S*** attitude! I loved her!!! I mean she runs death gauntlets for goodness sake!! She is my kind of MC tough as nails and loves fiercely!!

The way it works in this story is that the woman have abilities and the men don’t get them till they mate! Even tho both women and men can’t shift till mated! So she has 4 overprotective brothers and she made herself tough so she wouldn’t be taken advantage of! Since the war that happened years ago between humans and dragons there are only a few woman dragons left!

This book held me captive every single page! I loved how it was multiple POV and it isn’t insta love for the characters!! She makes the guys work for it!

This whole book had so much action and drama I couldn’t get enough I am sad it’s a standalone I fell in love with these characters and world but the ending was perfect!!!

I absolutely loved this Book ...

This is the first book I've read of J. Kearston's but it definitely won't be the last.

Forged from the ashes is a fantastic Dragon Shifter adventure.
Ezra is a fiery red headed leading lady who just happens to be one of the very few women Dragons left due to the Dragon/Human war.

But Ezra's Brothers are far to protective of her and are convinced that if they dont tell her about the heat when she hits her next birthday then it wont happen, not that Ezra is intrested in finding her mates she would rather run the towns gauntlet and prove to everyone including her 4 brothers that she can take care of herself.

That is until she meets The 3 New bloods in town 2 of which come closer than any other man has at beating her at the Gauntlet run

This book is full of action with characters you want to know more about, its a definate page turner and has quite a few one liners and lol moments and a must Read .

Forged from the Ashes is definitely a different take on dragon mythology and dystopian society. Ezra has spent most of her teenaged and young adult life training and running Gauntlets. While Ezra uses the training and the Gauntlet as a reminder that she's not a weak female any longer, her four brothers know that they're helping their sister protect herself from what's coming. With humans having slaughtered the majority of the female dragon population, males have gone crazy wanting to breed females to increase their numbers.

Ezra meets two males new to town in her latest Gauntlet run and is intrigued. While reeling from the revelations her brothers don't exactly share, Ezra realizes she's got to think seriously about mating, not just making the boys look bad.

J. Kearston's lead off in the Wings of War series is intriguing and full of action. The opening shots have been fired, now to see what falls.

It takes more than blood to be a dragon.
You have to fight for everything you want in this world, then fight to keep it because there will always be someone that tries to take it away from you. In a world of nothing but predators, the only way to the top is to claw your way there.
You have to be the monster other monsters fear.
Ezra’s spent her life in hiding, but that all comes crashing down when three men fleeing for their lives bring the very trouble her family has protected her from to her door. Fight or flight, it all comes down to one very important question.
Why settle for something as mundane as simply existing when you have the potential to be so much more?

I loved this book.
But here and there were some faults around page 123 i found a fault in it. don there had to be said done.
But the rest of this book was action packed , great worldbuilding, a bit of steamy here in there. but not to much!

Ezra is a very rare female dragon, sought after as a mate. There are bad factions throughout the world that feel it is their right to take the females for breeding or experimenting on. Ezra's four brother protect her until her flight can. She just needs to chose them, before she turns 25. I was deeply engrossed in this book very early. It is a lovely, scary, steamy, humorous, dramatic and growing up fast page turner. So many times I wanted to kick or punch or scream at the bad characters. And then our author continues developing Ezra's flight and I can smile and enjoy Ezra's interactions with Ren, Ria, and Cai. She has so much attitude, snark and love. And her men love their 'Psychotic Angel' . War is coming to their town and "Weak man always lean towards whichever side they think is winning, no matter what they are fighting for" Ezra and her flight need to go now, to sanctuary, to complete the ritual. A very good PRH and I am looing forward to the next in this book series.

It's alright

There's not much spice. At all. There's two kind of spicy scenes but they're all virgins so they literally last a few seconds and there isn't much romance like affection or kissing or anything like that so if you're looking for spice it's not the one. I thought there would be a lot more action because the main chick seems pretty cool she's fighting through these life and death trials every couple months just for the fun of it or so she thinks so she seems pretty tough and like she can battle and stuff but even towards the end of the book when they do start fighting it's not very focused. Like they're just fighting for an agenda real quick to get to the next part, you know? And then they're just rushing to get to the next book, to the next girl, and you just left wondering, what's going on with this group though? Like, they got together now... And now it's done?

This book had me hooked from the start. I loved the whole world building and gauntlet races.
Ezra is the only female dragon in town and everyone knows to leave her alone, unless she picks them to be her mates. Her overprotective brothers have taught her to fight but have neglected to mention a few things. Along come 3 newbloods who brings with them news from outside the town walls and Ezra learns what her brothers held back.
I loved Ezra, she was confident, sassy, sarcastic and had some great lines. The brother were overprotective but supportive, and the 3 newbloods were so sweet and patient but could protect when needed. I loved the banter and games between everyone.
The only thing missing from me was a bit more after at the end, or a epilogue - but as this is the first book in the series I'm I'll get to find out how Ezra and the guys are getting on.

An exciting start to the Wings of War series

Ezra, a dragoness, has spent the past three years running The Gauntlet unchallenged until three newblood dragons, Caius, Soren, and Vyrian, come to town giving her a run worth the effort. As the story progresses some secrets are kept, others are revealed, and deciding on what course to take could tear apart everything she holds dear. J. Keaston’s Forged from the Ashes is an exciting start to the Wings of War series introducing a lovable cast of characters. The situations they are placed in leave a range of avenues to be explored in future books that I look forward to reading.

I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
