The Spy Next Door

Rate this book
Hope Hathaway doesn't distrust all men . . . just the ones who make promises to her like her no-good, cheating ex-husband did. Still, she's happy with life as a single mom in a small town-donning overalls every day, driving her son's school bus, and escaping into the world of Sela Theodore, the heroine of her romantic spy novels. Until, that is, Chandler Adams comes to stay next door. Chandler is gorgeous. The best-looking thing to drop into Bearsville since the hunky Fed Ex guy's truck broke down there several years before. Even better, Chandler's got a sense of humor, too, telling her they have something in common-she writes spy thrillers and he's an international spy. But after a little snooping, Hope finds out he really is a spy. After a series of escapes and a growing fondness for Hope's son, Chandler finally decides he's a spy ready to come in from the cold to warm Hope's heart forever. But can he get Hope to trust his promise? To believe in love again? Or is it truly a mission impossible? Cathy Liggett lives with her husband, son and daughter in Loveland, Ohio.

Cathy Liggett is a New York Times bestselling author and an ACFW Carol award winner. She is also an Ohio girl who never dreamed her writing journey would take her across the world and to Amish country, too. But she's learned God's plans for our lives are often more creative than the ones we imagine for ourselves. That includes re-meeting her husband at a high school reunion and marrying three months later--over forty years ago. She enjoys visiting kids and grandkids, spoiling the family pup, and knitting too (if the pattern isn't too tough!).

Hmmm this book is slow to start and thus I am finding it difficult to continue reading. This book was not hugely engaging, however, I pushed on and discovered it ended exactly the way I intended it to. Overall not an amazing book, I found she (Cathy) skipped over important sides stories of the book and also the at the beginning of the paragraph where she included an exit from the novel Hope was writing was poorly written and not interesting. Thus I must change the rating from 2 stars to 1.
