CRISIS is the latest volume in Darius Brasher's Omega superhero series and I have to say is probably one of the best ones yet. We've been following our protagonist for some time now and watched him grow into the hero he was meant to be. However, events haven't always made him a better person and he's actually become someone that his antagonists would recognize as having an ethical code similar to their own. After all, if the ends justify the means then what really did the previous Sentinels do wrong? The moral quandary there is at the heart of this book. I am not really a huge fan of the enemy, Progenitor, as he seems somewhat one-dimensionally awful but he serves his purpose as forcing Omega to throw out all stops. After all, he is the greatest threat that the world has ever faced. I also appreciated the appearance of Grimoire as I really enjoyed her in her Sorceress Superhero books. Weirdly, my favorite bit of the book is the fact that it addresses the phenomenon of "cape chasers" mentioned in the original ALIAS comic books.

Not the best of the series, spoilers below

I almost stopped reading this book several times. Why? The tension that was fabricated and drug along through the entire novel between Isaac and Theo. Supposedly like brothers, by this novel Isaac had almost flunked out on hero academy day one in a rage in which Theo stopped him to save his dream of being a hero, how did Isaac react calling his other friend a whore and being whole immature to Theo, next as Theo has to face Isaac's hated step brother in duel, it is Isaac who angrily encourages Theo to commit murder and even acts hostile when Theo refuses... other questionable choices of Isaac occur through the series. And that's great, I enjoy the depth and struggles. But right at the start of this book Isaac is suddenly a holier then thou, judgemental, untrusting, virtue signaling ass. A guy who happily condoned his best bud to commit murder is now sitting in judgement of Omega because he imprisoned Mad dog a remorseless murderer who due to corruption would never face justice. This lever was used like a blunt instrument to create tension between a once likable character Isaac and Omega, every contrived escalation of tension ruined this book more from me. I totally get the writer's intent, but he should have used a now wary Ninja to be the conscience check since the previous sentinels fooled her. The author tried to hastily repair the novel long battering of the Isaac Theo relationship but it came across as trite, I mean having urged Theo to murder, Theo having back and saved Isaac numerous times, Theo even suffered and allowed his leg to be skinned alive over the course of days to protect Isaac, the swift break of Isaac's loyalty to literally happen between the last book and the start of this one, and Isaac's constant virtue signaling such as not believing Theo of the coming threat he always knew was coming, such as when Theo disbands the new sentinel members because he was told if he did not they would fail. Rather than a discussion, Isaac childishly declares you wanted them gone because they like us better then you. His entire character was reduced to the worst of the twitter social media virtue signaling fools our world is plagued with now. Were I not 4 books into an otherwise good series I would have given up on this series due to this book. Hopefully the author stops ruining his characters and a somewhat decent finale can come in book six. Yes, I ramble, I am just deeply disappointed with this outing.

I was really, REALLY starting to not like Omega in this story. He was taking a real "the ends justify the means" approach to fighting The Progenitor, and I was starting to understand how a hero like Homelander ("The Boys") could become such a world-class heel. If you have watched Amazon Prime's The Boys, you understand where and how Homelander could have become so terrible, once you read Omega's path.

Still, I figured there was some good left in him because he realized there's still a right way to do things, and he managed to step back from the abyss. I figured there would either be a "Well, Theo, you were right and we're sorry we doubted you" kind of reckoning, or Theo would somehow redeem himself and win his friends back.

That alone was the best part of the story. I appreciated that he came clean with everyone and decided he wouldn't keep any more secrets. Well done, Theo!

Desperately looking forward to the next in the series, because I did NOT appreciate the cliffhanger ending. (I mean, it was great, but I wanted this to end! I wanted to see Progenitor pounded into the dirt. Or maybe they can fling him into the sun. . .)

The only Superhero books you’ll need

I loved this book just like all the last ones as well! Darius is the best at this genre, and actually brought me back from the LitRPG world for at least one day, even though Sage would be a perfect character for that genre as well with her bag of holding and magic. Excellent cliffhanger that you could tell was coming by checking the length of the book. I can’t wait for the next book!

I hate cliffhangers. With that said, I have completely enjoyed this series. Superheroes have problems, when it comes right down to it they are only human. None of us gets to choose their destiny and sometimes destiny just bites ass. Did I mention I hate cliffhangers? Waiting for the next episode, really enjoyed this cliffhangers and all.

Great read.

Well worth the longer than usual wait for the release. One of my favorite superhero/metahuman series. One of my favorite aspects of the series is the imagination the author puts into character personalities and power sets. Myth's powers for example, not to mention the blend of magical powers into the series.. well done!!

I was enraptured with the story. Where Darius left off was a huge disappointment. Of course you can have a cliff hanger to have a part 2 to a story, but not in the middle of a situation. That's all I can say without revealing anything. Other than that I hope that I don't have to wait 2 1/2 years before the second part comes out.

Love this series!

I have enjoyed reading this series! It's such a good take on being a superhero/superhero world that actually shows consequences of heros actions instead of just everything turning out good constantly. Only downside to this book is the cliff hanger, so excited for the next book

Omega level adventure

This book series has been such an amazing journey. There is real stakes in this superhero world, and as I reach each chapter I find myself in the shoes of the characters wondering if I could make that sacrifice. Love that the author has created a universe with his books. Cannot wait to see what happens next

Worth the wait!

I think this is the best of the series so far. Loved the guest stars. Loved the Arthurian reference. Didn't like so much soul searching but it didn't detract much. Heartily recommend this book!

Another fun read of Omega

Well it happened, Omega finally got it all out. Preparing for the big bad as well as trying to get his life back in line with what he started out as Kinetic. Can't wait for book six!

The crisis formed

Long story but worth the read. This novel is really about Theo. Yes, it is still a super hero take but it is more of a mid-hero crisis story. The biggest downside is having to wait for the next book.

Loved it !!!

Can't wait to see what happens next to Omega & the rest of the team. When I started reading this series, I was kind of hesitant to read the second book as the first wasn't as good as I expected. However, the second & following books got me hooked in!

This was a page turner. What I like is how the author explored the effect of past decisions on Omega and how he got to compare himself to the antagonist. The book ends on a cliff hanger and I can’t wait to read what happens next. This series keeps getting better and better.

Good continuation

First, if you've read to this point in the series you will probably like this book. I am a bit frustrated with the book, but that is all i will say, enjoy the read.

The series as a whole is written really well. There is a strong interesting plot, plenty of conflict, and character development. Absolutely will read the entire series again before book six comes out!

Though I may have to join the mobs over the ending. Fun super hero read with action and heart. Well worth it.

Started slow, but finished strong. Pretty wild back-story. Bit of a cliff-hanger ending. Bottom line? I want more.

Ended on a cliffhanger

I enjoyed the series but when will the next book be released? The world wants to know how this crisis will end!

What a shocker. The protagonist becomes bad boy looking for redemption later in the story. Thinks that owning up will make everything right, and it does. What?

Undeniably the best book in the series so far! New heroes are introduced and a new team is formed to contend with coming fights. I was not fond of the cliffhanger, but can see that it was required as the book was fairly long already. I cannot wait to read the next book.

Personally not a fan of the whole "Ley Lines" thing, it's a bit of a cliche at this point, but it's an entertaining book nonetheless
