Rule 9 Academy #3

Valley of the Dragons

Rate this book
In Basilisk Valley the Dragons are Real.

I might be one of them…if I can learn to embrace my change before it kills me.

Together with my best friends, we’ve come to the valley camp to make up the classes we missed in Bitterroot the Semester before…and to just be normal teenagers for a change…

No more Demon wolves attacking us unprovoked. Blood Sucking Vampires aren’t coming in for a taste because they think I smell sweet…And no crazed lunatics trying to wreck our world.

Maybe I can even find time to cure the strange stomach issues that keep plaguing me whenever a certain sorcerer is near?

I should’ve known better…

Instead, unexplained attacks are plaguing the town of Purdy and getting too close to camp for comfort.

Someone is hunting Magicals and leaving them for dead.

As the body count threatens to rise and my inner Dragon fights to emerge ahead of schedule…

We’ll be racing to unravel the lies from the truth before its too late and the Hunter’s Guild arrives with plans to kill every Dragon and Magical in Basilisk Valley.

War is coming to The Valley of the Dragons; it will be up to us to stop it and fight for the right to exist for Magicals everywhere.

When I was a child I wanted two things. To Write a Novel and to be Wonder Woman and save the world.

Somewhere past 40, I realized the tights were never going to fit, and the only flying I was ever going to do was in a plane.

So instead, I write my Strong and Sassy Heroes/Heroines into the novels I pen…

I build doorways into contemporary worlds filled with magic, that allow all of us to be a hero to our own fantastical imaginations.

To me, every character is real. I walk alongside them as they discover that fear is the flip side of courage, that survival may just be a badge of honor, and that our flaws are an opportunity to emerge stronger, and discover our own personal brand of superpowers—at any age.

If you read my review of Fire Bound Dragon, you will note I said I intended to move onto Book 3 as soon as I could. This book “Valley of the Dragons” is the third book in this series and what an excellent read. There is so much action here. All of what I now think of as my friends are back. Thomas, Sirrus, Sadie, Nick, and Fern. And there’s a new addition to the group. Niel Reece is paired off with Sadie in their Pyromancy class and Nick is not happy about it. Pyromancy might sound like learning to be an arsonist, but it’s actually learning to use your fire to protect others, your Magical fire. Yep, you got it...Rule 9 Academy is a school for Magicals. A place where you learn reading, writing, arithmetic, flying, fire throwing, and other Magical skills.

As I said, this book is full of action, even more than the first two books. Elizabeth Rain does not let up on her wonderful imagination nor her writing skills. This time she brought tears to my eyes. There are some fierce fights, and I wondered who would be lost. She’s already made all of these characters my dear friends, and losing them is very hard.

While I think Valley of the Dragons can be read as a stand-alone, I really think you’ll enjoy the series more if you start with Book 1, Fireborn Dragon. Rain’s characters become so real you begin to care about them, fiercely so. So I think I’d start at the beginning of the series and not miss a moment.

This was an excellent story of love and the misunderstanding between characters. They have an awesome time getting all of the situations worked out. Recommend this story.
