With the weapon he needs to destroy the gods now in his possession, Morgan sets off for Faeland once again. However, this time, he does not go alone. Representatives of each Kingdom join him, in an attempt to scout the area and collect the ingredients needed to replicate Ivaldi's formula.
As soon as he departs, Katherine receives an urgent summons from Hu Kiln, King of the West Kingdom. Strange disappearances and odd weather patterns have been sweeping through parts of his domain, and all signs point to a very disturbing source — one that Katherine, and the entire North Kingdom, is all too familiar with.
Warning: This book contains profanity, gore and content that may not be suitable for children. This book also contains GameLit elements, such as stat sheets, a form or leveling and experience gain.
Consistent quality LitRPG that doesn't fail to keep me ensnared.
We've recently been switching off between Grace and Morgan, a newb supermage and a nearly godlike monster of a supermage and picking off sub-quest character-enhancing monsters to get even more OP. Of course, the baddies are of equivalent power-up. To worldbreakers now. This is totally predictable but fun, nonetheless.
I'm hardly expecting anything more than mindless fun and that's what I'm getting. :)
To start the review I just want to say that the art for the cover has been too inconsistent since book 5. I don't know what changed but I just don't like it. Also, the name could use some changes, I thought the name would be The Soul Well or something like that. It doesn't affect the book itself just my opinion on it.
Here is a mini-review: Same as always Oster makes an incredible action-packed adventure with the higher levels, satisfactory character development and whole lot of fun!
What I liked: The action as always is amazing just like the rest of the series, nothing new here. I liked how Morgan finally has a moment to acknowledge his grief and his character will develop further in the next book. Grace to me is an incredible character and I like her dynamic with not only Morgan as her mentor but also the friendship she builds with Lumia. We got a look at new and old threats that Morgan will have to eventually face and the author is just bating us into the next book at this point.
What I am conflicted about: Elyssa's personality was rather shallow every time her POV was shared and it really bothered me. I hope Oster makes a better use of her character in future books. Everyone telling Morgan's story exactly the same way as if they were there besides him all the time was annoying but I understand that it's hard to avoid repetitive sentences. The ever changing villains: obviously as the series progresses the antagonist have to change, but I'm not sure how I feel about this new batch of beasts which are all coming after Morgan.
What I disliked: Grace's slow growth although realistic is bothering me, she can hardly do anything because all the threats are too dangerous for her but conveniently she can do damage to something Morgan has trouble with. It's just inconsistent and it takes away the level of the threat if Grace can handle it at her level. I have been hoping from the previous book for morgan to explore this new continent but he never does, I need to know more about the culture, the people, the beasts, and whatever else there is!
SPOILER!!! !!!! !!!! !!!!
Although I was expecting it, it was nice how this book connected with Origin( for those of you who don't know it's another series from the same author and apparently both books now connect with each other, you should check it out), although to me Rise to Omniscience is still superior I am excited to see what the author will do further along in both series.
This has been a very good series and while not as polished as some, still very enjoyable to read.
I am starting to grow tired of the series a little though, and I'm hoping the author will wrap it up in the next few books. There was plot progress, there was some character development, and the story is pretty interesting. But it is starting to feel a little like a 6 book series is being stretched into 9 books.
I would recommend the series though, and I will read the next book for sure (well, listen, but you get my meaning). But I hope the next book or two is a little faster paced, and the series can wrap up soon.
Morgan must prevent a war with Faeland an it's combined countries an against the Five Kingdom's .
Sarah killed in the last Pinnacle King takeover was thwart an left to slumber once more . It wasn't for Author another god of Order . Morgan would of given up completely with the death of Sarah . With the World Beasts waking up the other 2 pinnacle kings raising as an a war looming ,an training a apprentice as well Morgan has his hands full . Will he succeed in stopping a war an defeating the World Beast an pinnacle kings an saving humanity .recommend reading excellent series .
This feels like a book written to fill the gap between two books the author actually wanted to write. There's some character development, but it doesn't really ring true. The plot is serviceable, but pedestrian (and there are parts that seem arbitrary rather than organic). Fortunately, the battles are fairly well written.
If this were the first book in a series, I would not recommend the series. Fortunately, the early books here are better written. I'll likely continue, but only because I have an investment.
Aaron does it again! Fantastic book that continues the series in ways unimaginable!! The ending!!!! OMG! The author’s interconnected universe has so much depth and quality it is astounding. The characters are progressing well. Morgan has been through a lot and has plenty of more to come. An end game is nearing and Morgan knows what needs to be done, but can he do it? So excited to find out!
I was a little disappointed that this was a shorter book but overall turned out to be a good read i picked up The Land of the Elementals a while back and to see them mixing i cant wait for the next books in these two series still overall 4 stars was only because i wanted a longer book
The twists in this one are pretty cool. And the things hinted at make me want to go back and reread his other series’ just to make sure I’m not missing anything. Aaron is getting up to making a whole cosmere in the same way as Brandon Sanderson is. I’m looking forward to seeing it continue.
Incredible as always. The consistency of this series is second to none. Everything was spot on as usual. And that ending! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Do NOT miss this!
i really enjoyed reading book 7 just couldn’t put it down and now i can’t wait till the next book comes out and the rest of the characters adventures. keep up the good job
The writing is compelling, the characters are relatable, and the story is unpredictable. A great adventure with plenty of action and great world building.
I come to read this series because of the epic fight scenes and the heartwarming interactions between characters. This book had all of it as usual. Looking forward to the next one.
I had great expectations & I enjoyed every minute reading theis latest book in the series. The fight scenes were epic & the hero's emotional turmoil is relatable. I can't wait for the next installment.
I really enjoyed this story, especially how Morgan has grown. The story was very fluid and suspenseful. I kept reading late into the night to try to see what's going to happen next. Can't wait for the next book, keep it coming.
Love, love, love this series. Intriguing story crossover action imminent too! If you've made it this far with the series, then you obviously know you need to keep going.
Story keeps getting more suspenseful and tells more about the five kingdom's . I am so happy everytime I see this series in the store. Keep up the great work Aaron
I've been waiting on this book for a while and it did not disappoint. The fight scenes are incredible it's as it I can virtually see the attacks. May only wish it's that the books could come faster.
The book ends with a crossover to the Land of Elementals series at the end. Like this other series, good character development, incredible fights, some interesting relationship dynamics, almost no romance, and a pet Dragon. What's not to like?
I choose to give 4 stars due to the book setting up the next book but not really giving us anything too new. There was some more world building which is great but I felt like this installment was meant to really set up the next book.
Love the fight descriptions in this one in particular. Second to none. The story moves along at a good pace and doesn't linger in one place for too long. Really invested in this series and excited to see where it goes!
Yep, he grows and he hits harder than before. It's been interesting to see Oster continue to develop his worldbuilding, and I'm curious to see where he takes this story from here.
